Italian Mule (Averna amaro + vodka + ginger beer + lime)

Service was great, venue was quiet on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Ordered the poached pear salad and a signature cocktail, the Italian Mule (Averna amaro + vodka + ginger beer + lime). The venue is very classy.

Salmon Salad & Great Wine at Willful Wine Bar Located within the historic charm of the Grant House on Officer's Row in Vancouver, Washington, Willful Wine Bar is cozy spot for wine lovers. It's a beautifully restored 19th-century house. It feels like stepping back in time. The wine selection is the star here, particularly their pinot noir, a staple of the Willful brand. We love a woman winemaker, Pam Walden. Whether you're a seasoned wine connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a relaxing flight, the staff's knowledge and enthusiasm will be on point. The menu also includes small bites that perfectly complement the wines, such as local cheeses, charcuterie, and other nibbles. We had the mezze platter which was delicious and perfect size. I had one of their salads and added salmon! Fresh and delicious. I love a wine lunch!

What a delight! We have been here twice now, once for wine tasting and once for dinner. Both times, we had cheerful personable service. This gem of a restaurant is tucked away in Officers Row in an old building that used to house high ranking officers from Fort Vancouver. They've kept the charm of the interior, with the dining room and bar tucked in what might have been a living room and a library. The wines are whimsical and yummy. The food menu isn't so vast that you're head spins but is a thoughtfully curated menu. On our wine tasting expedition, we had their Cab Sav and Cab Franc. Both of them were enjoyed enough to bring a bottle of each home. These are not the big busty Cabs of Napa which we also love. On our dinner, we shared an arancini and a bruschetta. Yum. I had a vegetarian tagliatelle. Even though there's an option to add a protein, I didn't choose to add it and much enjoyed as is. I tried the gnocchi which was yummy, too. We will be back for sure.

Lunch at the Grant House, say Yes!! Historical atmosphere to enjoy great food, wine and ambience. We had our book club meeting there in the Sun Room. It was perfect. Our server was amazing and very attentive. Food ordered was great. From Sourdough sandwiches, to delicious salads. Drinks were delicious. If you're not into alcohol, they have some non alcoholic beverages. I had the Baby Mule. It was delicious and I didn't miss the alcohol. I ordered the Caesar Salad with Chicken. Both were delicious. A sourdough bread with olive oil for dipping, was so fresh. We will definitely come back to the beautiful setting. Reservations recommended for large groups.

Still 5-star, just posting an update since we've dined here a few times now. Love the ambiance of the historic home, and when the weather is nice it's lovely to sit either on the wraparound porch or the back patio. The food is delicious, their wines are excellent, and the service is nice and friendly (very down-to-earth). The only negative I've found is with their bruschetta, which is delicious, but it comes as one large slice of bread and it would be better if it was on smaller slices, or cut the slice in half, as it was awkward to cut ourselves. The bruschetta topping (roasted peaches & heirloom tomato) was also very cold when we had it and it would have been much better served at room temp- but it was still yummy. I also recommend their high tea service they do occasionally on some weekends.

My boyfriend always points out the Grant House on Officer's Row whenever we drive up to Vancouver from Portland, so I decided to surprise him with lunch there the day before his birthday. We had the Mezze Board, which was incredible, and he also tried the arancini with oxtail, my first time having oxtail, and it was so good. His sandwich of the day (a play on a muffuletta) was amazing, and we finished with their chocolate tart for dessert. We also tried a few drinks: I had a martini and a glass of wine, and he had an Old Fashioned and their version of a Manhattan.. everything was solid. It was chilly by the end of our visit, but the sun was out, and sitting outside was still really nice. The house itself is historic and has a great vibe. If you're into history or just want a unique dining experience in Vancouver, I'd definitely recommend it. My boyfriend even mentioned how it didn't feel like we were in Vancouver, which made it feel extra special. We're already planning to come back for dinner.

A super cute spot located in the Grant House on Officers Row. They play jazz music in the background and the vibes are pretty immaculate. Wine list is pretty solid. The food is a bit overpriced in my opinion ($16 for a small charcuterie board and $32 for a large one). But otherwise, I had a great time here. I should mention that my friend's car got broken into, even though it was just across the street and visible. I would be vigilant even if it seems like a safer part of town.

At first they served wine and cheese plates but now they have a new chef and the food is amazing. We had still had trout and pastas. It outside on the deck overlooking the park are inside this beautiful old building; highly recommend the spot.

The fact that more people don't know about this place is an absolute crime. The wine is refreshingly different than most of the competitors, plus the historical aspect and service are really great! They put on special events throughout the month that I am looking forward to paying attention to in the future - the most recent being an adorable tea ceremony that seemed to be underbooked. Please keep this place on your list, it's worth it regardless of the season!

The bar is well lit and very classy. The staff is dressed appropriately. Drinks are very good but do take a minute to craft. They are on the pricy side. The food is absolutely wonderful. Truly. Excellent food, excellent chef. However, for the portion size, it's pricey. One can understand they are doing this intentionally to maintain a higher class of patrons but the tab was a bit jarring. We've been back a couple times, took friends once. They enjoyed it but they too, did mention the prices. Great place in the heart of downtown. We'll be back. Hopefully they'll adjust portions to match their pricing.

Our server was friendly and quick. She answered questions and described the specials. They have gluten free focaccia!!!! It was super yummy, but it was also served kinda cold. Worth it. We ordered the fresh catch, which was halibut with some potatoes and grilled asparagus. The accompanying sauces were delicious. The asparagus was good. The white potatoes though had been cooked previously and weren't reheated enough. They were described as new potatoes but were definitely large chunks of russets. They were hard to eat. So we didn't. We also had the Punta di Fesa which is a braised beef dish with mushrooms on polenta. The balsamic mushrooms and polenta were so flavorful and delicious. It was a good thing that my husband started with this dish (we traded halfway through and had plenty to eat!) because I would have eaten his share of the polenta too. The beef however was dry and not what I would have expected from a braised beef. When we were given a knife, we were told we probably wouldn't need it. We did. The service here was friendly and helpful. Our server was knowledgeable about gluten free needs and recommended a great bottle of wine that went well with our fish AND the beef (which is tricky...yummy Chianti AND half price!). It was pretty busy for a Tuesday night at 7. There were people that ended up waiting but not too long. There are shelves of Italian goods all around you. My husband said he felt like he was eating in a store. You kind of are, but it was still cozy. I plan to come back to try the gluten free pasta and maybe a lunch sandwich if they have solid gf options there. Also, the dessert menu looked great. We were just full.

It's close enough to walk to, which makes it even better. Honestly, every time I walk through the door, I almost want to start singing the Cheers theme song. This is now my third visit, and each time I've had a great experience. The crowd is incredibly friendly, and there's just something about this place that makes you feel welcome. On my first visit, I sat at the bar and met Randi, the bartender. She is absolutely amazing! She knows everyone by name and has that wonderful ability to make you feel like you've been coming there forever. I started with the calamari, and Randi set me up with some chipotle mayo for dipping. Excellent choice! I finished with the combination pizza. At first, I thought the crust was sourdough, but I was told it's actually a bagel crust. Regardless of what you call it, it was absolutely delicious! My second visit was about a week and a half later. I sat at the bar again, and Randi looked at me, smiled, and said, "Tony, right?" Now THAT is pretty amazing! Remembering my name after only one previous visit--and with a week and a half between visits--is exactly the kind of personal touch that makes a place special. Of course, I had to order the calamari again. This time I also tried the fried chicken. And if you're looking for a big portion, this is definitely worth checking out! For my third visit, I brought a couple of friends along. Candace took great care of us and did an amazing job as well. We started with the Italian meatball soup, and it was phenomenal. We also tried the fajita tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. While sitting at a regular table this time, I noticed some pretty impressive accolades on the wall. Uptown Barrel Room was named Best Wine Bar and Best Seafood in 2023, and Best Wine Bar again in 2024. It's always fun finding those little neighborhood gems, especially when you're new to an area. For me, Uptown Barrel Room has quickly become one of those places where you can walk in, see friendly faces, enjoy some great food, and feel like you belong. If you're in the area, go in and give it a try. You will not be sorry! And if you see me sitting at the bar, just come say hi. Apparently, Randi already knows my name.
