I am absolutely loving exploring the area around my new home! About two blocks away is Uptown Barrel Room, and I think I may have just found my new favorite neighborhood spot. It's close enough to walk to, which makes it even better. Honestly, every time I walk through the door, I almost want to start singing the Cheers theme song. This is now my third visit, and each time I've had a great experience. The crowd is incredibly friendly, and there's just something about this place that makes you feel welcome. On my first visit, I sat at the bar and met Randi, the bartender. She is absolutely amazing! She knows everyone by name and has that wonderful ability to make you feel like you've been coming there forever. I started with the calamari, and Randi set me up with some chipotle mayo for dipping. Excellent choice! I finished with the combination pizza. At first, I thought the crust was sourdough, but I was told it's actually a bagel crust. Regardless of what you call it, it was absolutely delicious! My second visit was about a week and a half later. I sat at the bar again, and Randi looked at me, smiled, and said, "Tony, right?" Now THAT is pretty amazing! Remembering my name after only one previous visit--and with a week and a half between visits--is exactly the kind of personal touch that makes a place special. Of course, I had to order the calamari again. This time I also tried the fried chicken. And if you're looking for a big portion, this is definitely worth checking out! For my third visit, I brought a couple of friends along. Candace took great care of us and did an amazing job as well. We started with the Italian meatball soup, and it was phenomenal. We also tried the fajita tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. While sitting at a regular table this time, I noticed some pretty impressive accolades on the wall. Uptown Barrel Room was named Best Wine Bar and Best Seafood in 2023, and Best Wine Bar again in 2024. It's always fun finding those little neighborhood gems, especially when you're new to an area. For me, Uptown Barrel Room has quickly become one of those places where you can walk in, see friendly faces, enjoy some great food, and feel like you belong. If you're in the area, go in and give it a try. You will not be sorry! And if you see me sitting at the bar, just come say hi. Apparently, Randi already knows my name. You can see my previous reviews and they've been great. Unfortunately not this time, this time being Sunday November 30th about 6pm. I have 2 friends that have been reluctant on this place from previous "not good" experiences, and they came with me and it made me sad!! Anyway, our server was so blah (Katelyn H), our water glasses had lipstick marks, I asked her for new ones, she seemed to have forgotten or something so I asked the bartender (which is so sweet!) then our server heard me and grabbed glasses and handed them to me. She didn't check if they were clean, and they weren't, friends were too thirsty to wait and wiped off the lip marks with their napkin. She didn't even bother to ask if the glasses were clean, and also never asked us if we needed anymore drinks (we ordered cocktails). When food arrived, I had to walk up to her to ask for small plates, as she just walked away after delivery. The calzones were burnt on the bottom, and the marinara was 100000% canned tomato paste and was cold. Work on that marinara. Ambiance was as it always is, super chill and welcoming. She was the only server but she could have led with that and made it a comfortable setting. (Towards the end I saw the bartender delivering plates and drinks). read more

Went on a Saturday for brunch. Sweet and savory options a plenty. Staff is polite and welcoming. Decor is chateau mixed with relaxed bar. Huevos rancheros was delicious. Not spicy but awesome flavor. We've been here before and didn't have such a great experience, but that was years ago. Decided to give this place another since we are downtown so often. We asked to be seated up front near the entrance where the seating faces outside and the bay door was open, which made for a really nice atmosphere. The female staff member told us we could sit there, which we appreciated, but it took quite a while before anyone came over to bring menus. That said, the food definitely made up for some of the service hiccups. The steaks were absolutely delicious, and the drinks were refreshing and well-made. The staff was friendly when we did interact with them, but the service itself could use some improvement. We had to ask for utensils, request water refills multiple times, and at one point were told more water was coming but it never arrived until we asked again. Overall, great food and a nice setting, and would love to check out their weekend brunch, but the service could be more attentive and organized. read more

I had a great visit to Uptown Barrel Room. The interior is cute wine bar meets neighborhood hang. They have quite an extensive beverage selection, and not just the wine! I had a delightful bottle of Cab Sav by Memories Born, which is apparently 'made by the owner. For food I tried the caprese appetizer and the vegetarian calzone. TL;DR: Was a decent lunch spot we came across hoping for brunch. It wasn't busy at 11AM on a Thursday. Patio was open and server was great about coming out to check in. Food was okay. Mistakenly thought they were servicing brunch, but it's only on weekends. Came to eat at 11AM on a Thursday. We were the first customers of the day. We ate on the patio. All the tables on the patio had benches for seats that could not be adjusted (this note is for those who need flexible table configurations eating outside). Restrooms are up some stairs so may be inaccessible for some. Unsure if there are accessible bathrooms, but I didn't ask! There were high top tables and high stools along the bars windows. Again, maybe not wheel chair friendly but this was a quick observation while trying to find the restroom. I would call ahead if you need this accommodation to verify! Was a bit chilly outside so I ordered Earl Grey tea. Was offered cream and sugar on the side. Came with a variety of sugar options and three caps of half & half. Started with the Roasted Brussel Sprouts. Was sweeter than I was expecting. Thought I got a hint of sherry vinaigrette. I didn't enjoy the glaze, but the brussels were cooked well. Ordered the Blackened Salmon Caesar Salad. Salmon was perfectly cooked! Tender and not dry! Caesar salad part was adequate. Croutons were comically small. Haha. Special was the Philly Dip. A Philly Cheesesteak with au jus and fries in the side. Fries were hot and crispy! Sandwich was saucey - it was a little messy to eat. I don't love Phillys, but my partner who does thought it was good. Was looking forward to brunch, but Barrel Room was an okay lunch spot. Nothing to write home about but was decent. Love everything about this place with one exception, $6 for an iced tea is really high. A soda is only $3 and that's what the tea should be too. Wow we came in for a company Christmas party of about 15 and Brittany served all of us. She did a great job. My chicken Alfredo was delicious and so was my Cesar salad. I got the Marion berry cake and ice cream too. I must say the best moist cake in the world. The maple ice cream was a great combination with it along with the maple syrup. I think everyone really enjoyed there dinners too. The nut crusher peanut butter beer is a good beer to get her. They have it on tap and man it is so good.
