having been a Loyale patient for a few years with Dr Fruchtman and what I thought to be a well-established patient / Doctor relationship, such is not the case in my recent visit. Scheduled a routine office visit and to look at frames. I Was prescribed eye drops for allergies and after finishing what i thought was my routine visit i was slammed with a $75.00 medical coded visit, and to come back the following week for yet another visit, due to the fact could not bill two different visits in same day when was there for a routine visit. Very upset, and disappointed in my experience to say the least. I feel totally disappointed in a doctor i respected. read more

I thought I needed my eye glass rx increased but the doctor told me no. He said I had cataracts and recommended see Dr. Phillips and get laser surgery. So it took me a while to get it scheduled but boy am I thankful. Dr. Phillips was great. My distance vision is amazing and once my eyes finish healing I will be following up with Dr Fructman to get new reading glasses. read more

This is a one man operation. If you have VSP insurance, then you should continue reading this review. I've come to the conclusion that all optometrists in the VSP network are also opticians. Dr. Fruchtman does not disseminate from this inference. The office is small. It's located on the second floor of a three floor professional building. It's so small that there isn't a restroom in the office. The restroom is located in the hallway and you need a key in order to gain access. During my visit I had the intention of pricing out frames. His selection is sparse, probably less than 100 in total. It's very basic and can be cataloged in less that 10 minutes. He will try to upsell you on anything and everything. So it's very important that you do some research. Compare prices online before visiting any optician. Another place you want to check out is Costco. Frames and lenses are so affordable that you may actually save more money paying completely out of pocket there as opposed to going through your network. Preparation is key... read more

This office is awesome - I called on a Monday to make an appointment I've been putting off for over 10 years, and was in the office on Wednesday. Since they take Horizon NJ and are down the street from me, the convenience was much appreciated - and the way that I was in the exam seat AT the time of my appointment and out 12 minutes later was amazing. Being able to fill out the forms online made it so that I didn't have to spend extra time in a doctor's office during a pandemic and didnt have to cramp my hand filling out forms. My temperature was taken and I was given a squirt of hand sanitizer before entering. My only disappointment is that I don't need glasses - so the only well run doctor's office I've been to in years isn't one I have to frequent! Definitely go here. read more

Went for an eye exam since it's been 2 years and found this on google... doctor told me it's gonan be a simple eye exam for glasses at the price of $70 and rest insurance of $40-$50...well month later I got a bill of $225. For an eye exam that's a little too pricey... even with insurance...are they out of their minds? read more

Complete scam artist. I went in there to get an eye exam and they somehow turned it into a medical specialist visit after staring at my eye for 25 seconds. Before today I tried to make an appointment three times, before I decided to just show up there. Big mistake. I originally went there because they were the only place that excepts Medicaid, so if you have regular insurance do not go there. There's 1 million other places that will treat you like a human, and not like an ATM. Edit: they also said I don't have vision insurance. I have done my glasses last time and it was not proper . I was feeling headache by using your glasses on daily basis. I went to another Dr. in 2-3 days and they shocked my after checking my eyes that you have done wrong numbering for my glasses and was the main reason for my headache. I just moved to the neighborhood and instead of going back to my old doctor I thought I would try out someone closer to home. Looks like I am going back to my old doctor. Here were my problems: 1.Contacts not covered by my insurance...come to find out they never have been but my old doctor was so well priced that my stipend allowed by my insurance pretty much covered my year supply. This time around it didn't even cover a 6 month supply. My insurance covered 140 bucks, so with that I could only 6 months and had to pay another 40 out of pocket. He charges 45 bucks a box...I know how to use the Internet you can get them for 20 bucks a box...he's just trying to squeeze some more money out of me. Never once tried to offer me another option that was covered by my insurance. He then wanted to check my eyes out a week later to make sure my contacts were ok...in which I told him I have been wearing the same brand for over 5 years...I am good. 2.Dilation of my eyes-now my insurance covers this 100 percent. Well he tells me he actually goes through my medical insurance for this because he does something "special" there was nothing special about this....he put drops in my eyes and then let me drive home with my eyes EXTREMELY dilated to the point I had contemplated sitting in the parking lot and waiting it out. I want to add most people would know this about dilation but my old doctor offers for 39 bucks(which I gladly paid out of pocket) to just have a picture taken of my eye instead of dilation, so I haven't dealt with this issue since my teens. Back to this special "dilation" he went through my medical insurance which he charged them 120 dollars, in which I had to pay 52 dollars of. I just found him to be very sketchy and anytime I would question him, he seemed almost defensive with his answer, not something you want from a doctor. I was looking for convenience and now I just wish I went back to my old doctor. read more

I saw this doctor for the first-time last year for a checkup and possible prescription. As soon as I was asked to come in for my appointment, the doctor and his office staff employee explained, my insurance would not cover the visit because I've already been seen for an eye exam within the last year. I knew immediately that was not true, it had been a couple of years. I explained that cannot be right, but they suggested I have him submit the visit as if I was having an issue with my eye's, so insurance would cover all but $50. My copay is $15, so why would I do that? I asked they contact my insurance again. They did, and turns out, the visit was covered after all. Normally, this happening on its own would not be a big deal, but there seems to be an ongoing theme in the reviews for Dr. Frutchman. After my eye exam, which only included an assessment of my need for a prescription, we walked over to his display of glasses. I was naive and didn't realize I could look elsewhere, or shop online. So, I chose a pair I was not thrilled about, paying $190. They broke about a month later. At that point I did not want to go back and see the doctor who I last saw, so I dealt with my broken glasses. Just recently I had another eye exam by another eye doctor. After my complete exam, including looking inside my eyeball to detect disease, he assured me I really did not need a prescription. And for certain reasons, I could tolerate a simple over the counter pair of reading glasses, without negative repercussions. I showed him the glasses Dr. Fruchtman sold me and in his opinion, they were not $190 glasses. It seems Dr. Frutchman has allowed greed to make decisions about how he goes about his business. read more

I went in for an eye exam and contact lens fitting. He took my glasses, checked the current prescription, mostly checked my vision, didn't really check my eye health, no dilation, didn't mention anything about my eye pressure. Overall he said my prescription had changed but slightly. My insurance covers me up to 4 boxes of contacts (if my insurance supplies him with the materials, which they did) OR $130 allowance for lenses and 15% off remaining balance including the fitting (for contacts/materials NOT supplied to him by my insurance.) He didn't even inform me of my benefit of having my contacts covered up to 4 boxes, he just told me there's a $130 allowance and the rest is out of pocket. So I asked about my benefit. He said nothing in response and began looking for contacts I'd be covered for. I'm positive he didn't mention it because he wouldn't get paid as much if I did get my contacts covered. At least that's what my insurance company and another doctors office told me. I get fitted for a lens, gives me the wrong prescription to wear as a trial. Came back for a follow up because they were drying out my eyes. I wanted something with a little more water content, he tries to get me to try something outside of my benefit, luckily enough I had spoken with my insurance company and was given a list of all the contacts I'd be covered for. Something I feel he wasn't too fond of. So I requested another pair, it's now 2 days shy of TWO weeks since my follow up. I called ONE WEEK AGO asking about the second trial pair and was told they'd arrive the following day. Here I am a week later and I haven't heard from his office. Overall it was a BAD experience. I felt he was uninformed and/or just didn't care to inform me of my benefits, I didn't feel well taken care of, I felt as though he was trying to take advantage by having me spend unnecessary out of pocket expenses so he could get paid. Luckily enough I did my research before going in and knew what I was entitled to through my insurance. The only upside to his half ass healthcare provision is that he didn't file an insurance claim so I was able to go somewhere else with my benefits where the differences in healthcare were very distinguishing. In the end even the prescription he gave me was off. Instead I visited Dr. Maria Dominguez who took exceptional care of me, spoke to me about my benefits, what's included in my plan, explained any irregularities, put emphasis & provided reassurance of all good signs of my eye health. You can tell she chose and cherishes her CAREER in healthcare , it's NOT just a JOB in healthcare. Get it together Bill. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Fruchtman for 10 years. Dr. Fruchtman is more than an eye doctor. From the first visit I felt completely at ease. Not only is he an excellent Dr. he treats his patients as individuals. He takes the time to get to know you personally, which to me is as important as his skills as a Dr. He's thorough, competent, and makes me feel at ease. I've always been satisfied with my glasses and contacts and received them in a timely manner. As an added bonus he always makes me laugh! I highly recommend him. read more

Complete opposite of a mall-style store visit for glasses. You will be cared for by a Doctor of Optometry from beginning to end. One doctor and an assistant. Very old fashioned and attentive. My family has been coming here for years. Call first, they work very hard to accommodate any insurance. read more

He runs the whole office. Takes phone calls during examinations. Uses discount lens providers. The worst is that he continues to spam former customers with e-mails and text messages despite multiple attempts at opting out of his mailing list. He advertises 'state of the art equipment' but there is no auto-refractor. Old school and dirty tools. He is not multilingual...knows a few words in other languages and is very difficult to communicate in the languages he says he is fluent in.
