We had the absolute best time on the Freedom Trail tour with Mike! I'd like to note I am not a…read morehistory lover by any means, but my partner is, so I booked this tour after reading the reviews and it exceeded all expectations we had! The tour plans to leave promptly at 9:30 AM to stick with the schedule, but our tour guide called us around 9:25 as we were en route 2 minutes away to gauge how far we were and ensure he didn't leave without us, which was appreciated. Right from the start, our guide showed us his wealth of knowledge, humor, and public speaking skills along with multiple visual guides. A particular history fact that stood out was when he noted how Boston shipped two turtles weighing a total of 92 lbs to England to commemorate 92 votes against recinding a letter that he had just learned a few weeks prior from the footnotes, which just went to show his dedication to an extremely educational tour. Our tour guide also included personal anecdotes of his time living in Boston, even showing us a video he had taken one July 4th to commemorate the annual reading of the Declaration of Independence at the site of the Boston massacre. I was extremely impressed at his ability to walk backwards while never missing a beat as he described each & everything we passed. We were a group of all adults, but he included fun, youthful ways to incorporate us into the history with each landmark we saw. I learned so much I had never even heard of prior, from events that occurred to pivotal people throughout the American Revolution. We did get a break halfway through the tour to use the bathroom and get water if needed. It is a lot of walking, about 4-4.5 miles total, but the multiple stops made it more than doable (jsut be sure to wear comfortable shoes); I will note the latter half of the tour had more landmarks that included areas to take a seat while you listened to the history, but be prepared to walk at a slightly more than casual speed as you move from one landmark to the next. The tour ended with recommendations on where to eat and where to go next for more historic or even just good ole Bostonian fun. It was absolutely fantastic! You will not regret taking this tour!

Now this tour may not be for everyone, as the title of the tour alludes to.. but if you don't mind the random swear word and aren't easily offended, you'll be like me... cracking up for 3 hours straight. And there was one thing I noticed about Anthony that he doesn't advertise, and may try to track me down for saying on here.... But beneath the gruff exterior was the sweetest guy that seemed genuinely interested in sharing his culture, stories, and amazing food with everyone! We started off at a pizza joint where we got a slice of pizza and an arancini ball. I expected the pizza to be good... and it was fantastic. But I am not a huge fan of arancini and this one had peas in it... also something I am not a huge fan.... But hey, I was on a food tour so I was going to try everything! Thank goodness I did, because this arancini was the stuff of dreams. How in the world could something be THAT much better than what high end Italian restaurants advertise? The last time I had an arancini ball was at a restaurant in Hawaii that won "best Italian food in Hawaii".... And it was only so-so. This arancini ball would make me fly 5,000 just to eat it again! Next up was a deli sub, a coffee shop, ravioli, a pastry shop and lastly an affogato (or gelato if you didn't want coffee that late in the day). Based on the food I received, before factoring in all the stories that Anthony shared, I feel the tour was really underpriced. I wish I hadn't done this the tour on my last day, I would have gone back for another round of everything we tried, as well as everything that was recommended. Heck I may have signed up for the tour again just to experience it all over again!

If you are a Fan of those Pirate movies then you've got to experience the Real Thing! The tour combines fun interesting facts about the history of Boston plus they show you many points of interests both past & present still standing in the city. They even throw in some Pirate stories as well like Sam Bellamy & The Widdah. The crew is all dressed in Pirate attire so you really get the whole Pirate experience. We had Captain Mckinnon & Captain Mead. Both Kids & Adults will like this nautical adventure in the 7 Seas. They even let the kids help hoist the sails. This is Great to put on a future resume - Yup I helped sail a Pirate Ship. LOL! It gets chilly on the seas so bring an extra jacket. They also have Free Blankets they pass out if you're cold. You'll pass by The TD Garden, The Zakim Bridge, The Old North Church, The Seaport Area, Legal Seafood, The Rebook Headquarters, Logan Airport, The Charleston Navy Yard, The USS Constitution & many other sites. You'll definitely get heads a turning cruising in the Pirate Ship by other boaters along the route who will give you a wave. There is a rest room below the deck. Our guide, Jake, met us a bit early in the appointed spot. He handed us the ghost plushies we bought (a nice souvenir) and the EMF meters we rented, and since there were only four of us on the tour, he began early. I didn't find him very engaging and felt he was going for "jump scares" when telling the stories. Since it was evening, we could only stop outside or across the street from places we visited (except for the Boston Common, where we met). I did like the three extra stories on the extended tour. I recommend not renting the EMF meters, as we weren't really encouraged to use them. It seems Jake forgot about them as soon as he gave them to us. I turned them on a few times, but didn't get much of a result. It is a fairly short tour; we began around 7:45 and were done by 9:15. Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing quite a bit of walking, including up a hill (that Jake joked was the scariest part of the tour). Whether or not you take the extended tour, you end up in a different location, so be mindful of that. It's not a must-do, but if it works with your schedule, it's a nice way to spend an evening.

Was investigating Boston…read moreFreedom Trail tour options online and was given a link on bostonusa.com after being redirected from thefreedomtrail.org site, while preparing for our first family visit to Boston, MA. Apparently COVID-19 has suspended all Freedom Trail Foundation led tours at the moment (summer 2021) so was looking for something to engage our kids' interest while we walked Boston's Freedom Trail. Let's face it... just walking and looking at the Freedom Trail will be absolutely boring to most kids. Tour guides in normal clothes & just talking to us... PASS! Donning historically accurate clothing and talking with an accent, and website claims of "good at engaging young people"... HUZZAHHH! Winner, WINNER! Setting up the tour over the phone was not difficult at all. Phone calls were returned promptly. Donald Watson was the point man for organizing the details of our jaunt on The Trail. We were even allowed to alter the start time to facilitate additional commitments later in the day. Flexibility! Thank you!! When the Freedom Trail day arrived, we finally met Mr. Watson in person, and he was quite the cheery chap! Donned in clothing that was circa 1776 and sportin' an accent that was easily understood. He took the role of Sons Of Liberty member James Otis. Allowed us some time to finish our on the run breakfast too, before starting our tour at the Boston Common Visitor Center. We confirmed everyone was COVID-19 vaccinated, so... Everyone ready?!? YES! And off we went! Good pace to the walking tour, never felt rushed, always waited for everyone to catch up before talking, answered all questions with an obvious depth of knowledge! Had us all yelling "FIE!" And "HUZZAH!" throughout the tour as we hit 11 of the Freedom Trail sites. We finished at Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market, all VERY happy our experience, all exuberantly saying "FIE!" when Mr. Watson announced "We've reached the end our tour." HAH! All the families wanted to get pictures with Mr. Watson, cuz we "kinda" enjoyed our jaunt with him way too much ;) VERY EASY RECOMMENDATION! As a comparison, we also took the Boston Duck Tour and this was FAR MORE enjoyable for our party of 12, age range 12-52. Enjoy! We sure did! :)

When I took my kids on the tour in 2019, I was so impressed with the professionalism of the attendants who help out beforehand. They were all wearing khakis, had their shirts tucked in, and there were no phones in sight. I remember one lovely young man who was wearing a Vineyard Vines belt and my son was obsessed with it, and he graciously told me what the print was called and I was able to purchase it for him for Christmas that year. This time around, it was shocking to me how opposite our experience was pre-tour. I recall in 2019 receiving a warm welcome walking up to the boarding location, but not this time. They were all huddled in a pile by the umbrella, and no one greeted us. I approached an employee who identified himself as a driver and instead pointed me to an attendant who could "better assist". When I asked which boat to board, we were rudely told to "Just wait here until we announce it", which felt like a big departure from the friendliness of a few years ago. The attendants themselves just looked messy, and it seems the standards went down significantly. We had so much fun on the tour itself, but the end to end of an experience is really what makes or breaks it, and the bad customer service before boarding left a sour taste in our mouths.

Turns out the Duck Tours were tours in semi-aquatic buses that mix history, jokes, and sightseeing. We also got to go into the water and folks took turns driving the duck boat. What was delightful about our tour was our captain who entertained us with magic tricks, punny jokes, dad jokes, and history. We quacked at passerbys, other duck tours, recent graduates, kids in hi-vis vests. He pointed out the marines organized in a park with the Osprey and other planes. I left my knowledge of American history in elementary school, so everything was super fascinating to me. I thought my honey would enjoy this being a historian and all but he didn't care for the jokes, which I thought were the best part. Oh well. Worth a tour when you're in the Boston area!
