Love this place. Every time I enter the doors I find myself wandering around the historic greenhouses for hours. Yes, Historic. These greenhouses are on the National Historic Building registry. Trickers has been in business for well over a century. The selection of pond plants and fish can only leave a person wanting a bigger water garden to fit it all in. The locals do fill the place on the weekends and a long wait is guaranteed but it is well worth it. Trickers staff is very knowledgable and will help you choose the right supplies to fit your needs. After pre-ordering a specific variety of waterlily on 9/19/25 if was shipped in May of 2026. When it bloomed in June I discovered it was the wrong variety and immediately contacted Tricker with photos of it. They said it was the wrong one they had shipped and that I would be issued a refund. It was also determined that the variety I was sent was actually cheaper than what I had ordered. So they had shipped the incorrect one and charged me more for it by not correcting the charged amount or even notifying me of the substitution. This constitutes fraud by them. I have been waiting for the promised refund and every time I inquire about its status all I get are varying excuses. The last excuse was they are mailing me a check but that has not happened. I even received an email from the CEO Cindy Lee saying they are having issues with their accounting personnel. They were very happy to charge my card immediately when I placed the order nearly a year ago but have lots of difficulties following up on customer service/refund area. Please be very careful if you decide to buy anything from them! There's a good chance if there is a problem that you will get nothing but excuses back instead of your refund. read more

I have been purchasing tropical lilies from trickers for over 30 years. I live close by so I order them months ahead so I can pick them up the first week in June. The lilies I got this year were tiny without even one flower bud. In past years I would get plants with long stems and large lilies pads and would have flowers the same day or at least the same week I placed them in my pond. After two weeks I still have small plants without flowers. I wrote to complain and was told that because of cold weather this spring some of their varieties did not do very well. I purchased American Beauty and Helen Tricker varieties. I asked why they didn't contact me and give me the option to take different varieties? Their response was they may consider that next year. Stay away! The shipping is far more expensive than if I shipped it myself! I thought they got a discount on shipping. When I called to ask, they did not offer to ship at the actual rate. Some plants are twice or more expensive than other stores. Always check other places. They didn't ship my plants per the shipper's policies that puts lifeforms in danger. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY --- These guys are absolutely awful -- stay away. I ordered 2 large planters, almost $1,000, plus I paid an additional $376 for shipping. Never received an order confirmation. Never received the invoice or receipt until AFTER I told them I would write this review. The planters, weighing 350lb EACH, were shipped in one large box that was specifically for stand up outdoor water fountains, NOT for these planters. Both planters were in the same box stacked on each other and laid on their side; extremely dangerous that upon opening that the top one would just roll right off. Instead of packing them correctly, in their own standup box that you can just lift off, they chose to do it this way. I contacted them about it and they hid behind their terms, blamed the manufacturer, said that it's my responsibility, as a residential customer with no special equipment, to unload them. Back and forth for weeks with rude and unhelpful responses from Donnette Lewis, most of which were copy and pasted, likely from the owner or manager who chose to hide behind their customer service rep instead of stepping up and helping to resolve the issue. Finally, I had to find some guys at Home Depot and pay them $300 additional to help unload the planters. And to top it off, the planters were the wrong color. Donnette said to take it up with the manufacturer. Somehow it was everyone else's fault but their's. It was my fault that I was unable to unload 2-350lb planters by myself that were packed in the wrong box. It was the manufacturer's fault for packing them in the wrong box and sending the wrong color. Instead of providing solutions or help, they just pointed the finger elsewhere. After all that, they finally sent me the receipt to make it seem like they're a legit retailer. They are absolutely terrible. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR YOUR MONEY with these people. read more

I purchased 5 plants and planted them per instructions and had 2 die on me. I took pictures of the plants when I planted them and about 25 to 30 days after and they replaced one of the plants and refunded the other. They definitely stand by their warranty, I did follow their planting instructions and tried to get good photos. I was a little worried about the plants because I am in Arizona so the shipping took longer than expected. I ordered a replacement part (Figurine) for my Fountain after storm damage. The replacement had cracks and chips (very poor quality ). Tricker Inc. referred me to the Mfg. and they did nothing. They do not respond to emails either. We placed an order for over $600 on May 13th. We paid for expedited shipping. We have received nothing yet and have repeatedly tried to contact them via phone and email. We finally canceled our order through the Better Business Bureau and filed a formal complaint. Not sure what is going on with Tricker this season, but it is not good. I ordered and paid for two water lilies for this spring. When they arrived, the rhizomes had been cut to 5/8" squares with a couple roots each. I have been a long-term customer of Tricker and never received lilies in such mutilated condition. I knew upon delivery the lilies would not survive and after two weeks in the pot they are failing (see photos). I emailed Tricker about the poor condition and the rep told me to send photos and the "propagator" would review and contact me. Of course, I received no word from the "propagator," so I sent email stating lilies were in worse condition and I wanted a refund. Within a half hour my refund had been issued including shipping. Tricker's quality and customer service have plummeted. I suppose some of this can be due to the pandemic, but there is no excuse for deliberately mutilating rhizomes and charging customers full price. read more

First time using them. Bought several floating ferns and a lotus from them that arrived in end of May. Live in a temperate climate (Southern California).The floating ferns (not inexpensive) were not-very-generous tiny sprigs. Disappointing. Was expecting that they'd grow larger, but no such luck. They were so small that I can only find two of them today. Lotus will probably take a year to bloom. Used correct fertilizer and followed all directions. Emailed them recently to report my situation and was only repeated the directions, and a wordy "We can't do anything because it's over 30 days" statement. Given online retailing these days and how simple it would have been to provide good customer satisfaction (like, "so sorry for your problem, would you like a couple replacement ferns?"), they chose to go the negative route. Local nurseries have not been open due to COVID, so I called to ask about their limitations and was told they were running behind but where accepting orders. I placed an order for a large sum of money and patiently waited. The order came much faster than I expected and I was quite please with the delivery time. I opened the box and that's when the problems began. All the plants were in plastic bags with newspaper covering the plants. Upon opening the bags I found the roots of all the water plants to be dry, not just dry but crispy dry as if dry newspaper was used to wrap wet plants and the paper had soaked up all the water. Almost half the order had no viable leaves on the plants, many were broken off at the roots and some were just plain dead. The Water Vallisneria arrived and I was shocked to see plants smaller than a crayon shipped for full price. I sent a (nice) email explaining my concerns and received no reply from the company (I gave them almost 2 weeks to reply). Today after seeing all but two of the plants dead, I called to express my displeasure. The woman who answered started making excuses about not having trained staff during this time and how she was unable to help me because of the pandemic. She said something about how the people completing order don't know how to package and pick plants. I explained that if they could not fulfill orders with healthy plants they they shouldn't be taking peoples money. She than started screaming at me saying I'm done with you. My family and I have been Trickers customers for over 60 years, Never again!! read more

Just rec'd my water lily USPS. They charged me $14.00 for a 3 day "priority" mailing. But it took 4 days to arrive. Common sense tells you that any living thing in a closed box for 3-4 days is not happy. Thus my lily is wilted and tired-looking. I hope it lives after giving Trickers $34.50 for the single lily. So, they also did not include any planting instructions and I called them in Cleveland. The woman answering sounded put-upon and grudgingly gave me some info, but seemed in such a hurry that I told her I would figure it out on my own. read more

Went yesterday (a Sunday) for the special water lettuce Tricker's advertises. Couldn't find them in the greenhouses to see what they looked like. After waiting 30-40 minutes for our number to be called, the salesperson informed us that they keep them in the employee's greenhouse. He didn't give an explanation as to why they weren't where customers can take a look before they purchase. I requested 2 variegated and 1 frilly, and he brought them in a plastic bag that was foggy from condensation so I could barely see them. He assured me that they were well variegated and I would see it when out of the bag. Long story short, they are basically solid green and in my pond they look like any regular inexpensive water lettuce. Don't spend the extra money - they are not worth it. read more

My father used to do business with Trickers for years and highly recommended it after my local stores failed to offer natural pond care alternatives. I was on the hunt for snails & aquatic plants & possibly gold fish but I left highly annoyed as a lot of my how to/care questions went unanswered or (for lack of a better term) half-a**ed responses. Although I was able to find the snails I was looking for, the pond I'm working on is a first for me & I was getting too many confusing answers online. Yet the young man who "helped" me seemed lost whenever I asked him questions that I feel any employee should have been capable of answering. When it comes to pond animals my concern was caring for them in the winter, preventing predators for eating them, providing the right environment,etc. Every single time I asked a question, his responses went something like this: I asked if I needed to bring the snails in for the winter our conversation went something like this: "No"...Okay then what do I do? I then asked if I needed a heater for the water. " No"...okay then what do I need? "Well, I guess you could do that. Yeah, that's a good idea. Just make sure the top doesn't ice over". Do you see where a customer would find this annoying, don't say "No" & then not emphasize on what a beginner needs to do. When I asked about purchasing the snails, he showed me their catalog as to what they have but went on to say " We don't have Melantho snails...well, we do but not many. I guess I could get you some if you really wanted". I'm currently only using a solar paneled fountain & asked if the snails would be enough to keep my small pond clean or if I needed to purchase a pump. He then showed me a $179+ pump! Seriously? I had clearly explained that I'm using an old sandbox (11x28x42) & you're pushing a $100.00+ pump! Even the pump kits @ Lowe's aren't that expensive. I was so flustered at the hour + long drive I made& his lack of knowledge that I left without ever inquiring about the gold fish or buying the plants I wanted. I can't say I wouldn't give this place a second try but not until I can better educate myself & (hopefully) have a more helpful employee assist me. And of course, due to his lack of useful information; out of the 12 snails I bought I only have 3 left & have no idea where or what happened to them. read more

Terrible customer service! After I placed an order, I received no communication from them for weeks about when it would be delivered. When it finally arrived, half of it was missing. I have attempted to contact them via email and through their website, but it's been over a week and they have not responded. Buyer Beware. If you get the free 2020 water plant from this company make sure you do your research. My friend was sent a plant clearly labeled by the company as Giant Salvinia. Giant Salvinia is an invasive plant species that destroys bodies of water. It is Federally prohibited and illegal to sell, distribute, release, and transport across state lines. It is illegal in every state and almost impossible to remove without draining your pond. When he contacted them he received a letter saying that "he" had misidentified it and that it was a different plant even though they were the ones that labeled it. We checked it against pictures and descriptions online and it is definitely Giant Salvinia. Luckily he had looked it up first before placing it in his pond. To make it even worse the plants he did order must have been grown in the same container as the Giant Salvinia since he found Giant Salvinia leaves with root bundles mixed in with his other plants.This company cannot be trusted. read more

I have done business with this company for a number of years and have been highly satisfied with their lilies and water plants. I also use their fertilizer and have had an incredible number of blooms. They stress that you need to follow directions in terms of planting times and how to plant, and I have found their directions to be quite good. They have been most accommodating when I've had to adjust shipping times to my schedule. read more

I was excited to see this place last summer after almost 20 years away, place is very run down now. Some of the waterlilies in greenhouses are marked incorrect and they did not seem to care. Inside the catalog I picked up in the store many of the flower photos are digitally altererd and placed over and over again (very cheap and cheesy). Its easy to identify the phony photos as its the ceter flower copied and pasted around itself. Look like the same thing is done on the individual plant pages online. Just not friendly or reputable anymore. I think the owners may have changed hands a few times. read more

What a disappointment! Bought a water lily on Mother's Day and it's not growing. When I called about the guarantee, was told I never should have planted it that early so the guarantee is void. When I bought the lily, specifically asked the clerk if it was OK to plant that day and he said it was. Now they won't replace the plant because I should have known not to plant so early. The worst place my family has ever purchased from. We bought a water pump that went bad before the one year warranty and Trickers told us that there was nothing they could do for us. We then asked for the owner and was told to call back Saturday to speak to him. We did call back Saturday and they told us that they wouldn't put him on the phone. I live in Key West, Florida and have a large pond we build in our patio area. a 20 x 10 and 5 foot deep in steps. finished in concrete and a sealing paint. At that point I needed help. I turned to Trickers by phone and the helped me with each problem. We run 3 filters and two fountains and a 5 foot waterfalls. from the plants in the bottom, the lilies on the top of the pond. they suggested the lamp filter insert that kills algie cleaned our pond in just 2 days. the fish they sent were great i bought the 3 to 4 inch size fish in coy, gold fish in about every type they had. at this point they are about 12 to 14 inches and are healthy. they suggested water sprayers to keep predictors away they work great..I have a great pond with the help of their great team. my fish have multiplied and eat like crazy. the night lights in the pool let you see them as you sit on the patio in the evenings. our back yard is and Egyptian Paradise with 12 statues that are 4 to 6 foot each with king tut sitting on his thrown in the middle, in the center is a 14 by 14 canopy. our yard it fabulous the key to our yard is the fish pond. thank you trickers .. I may say I was born and raised in Akron Ohio and left there 26 years ago to relocate to Key West. I had a pond when I lived there guided by trickers. read more

Tricker's is an interesting place to visit. Everything for ponds can be found here. I went in on a Saturday and there was no one in the place. It's a great place to shop if you don't have to deal with the clerks! I have never been in a place where I have been treated so rudely. The girl helping me was new and didn't know a thing. I understand being new but she obviously wasn't familiar with anything in the store. Whoever is training her isn't doing their job. I understand being new and I was very patient with her. The other worker (a man with large earrings) was totally rude and has no social skills! She was making a mistake with the bill and he argued with me that the bill was correct. I pointed out the mistake to him and he crossed it out and still said she was right! What an ass. He was almost uncommunicative when I asked him a question about the plants I was buying. I hope he isn't being paid much because he doesn't do much. While they have a great selection of items and fish, I think I'll pay shipping and order things online so I don't have to deal with these people again. Side note: They never even charged tax so maybe that made up for it! LOL read more
