However, after getting the vehicle back, the car continued losing coolant rapidly -- even while sitting parked overnight. I also experienced smoke from the exhaust at startup and additional oil leakage concerns after the repair. What became frustrating for me was the diagnostic process afterward. Once I returned with continued coolant loss concerns, the conversation shifted almost immediately toward "internal engine damage" and engine replacement, despite no combustion leak test, leak-down test, or follow-up compression testing being performed to confirm catastrophic engine failure. I understand overheating can potentially damage an engine, and I'm not disputing that possibility. My issue is that I did not feel there was enough confirmed diagnostic evidence presented before recommending something as major and expensive as an engine replacement. I also physically observed dried coolant residue and evidence of external coolant spray/leakage around the engine bay, and the vehicle was still losing coolant while parked and not running, which I felt deserved further external leak investigation before jumping to the conclusion of full engine replacement. To be fair, the staff did communicate concerns about possible overheating damage from the beginning. However, I left feeling more pushed toward a worst-case scenario than guided through a complete and confirmed diagnosis process. At minimum, I would strongly recommend that future customers request: combustion/block testing compression/leak-down testing and clear confirmation of leak sources before agreeing to major engine replacement recommendations.

I called, they told me what the cost would be because they understand business and how customer service works. It's called letting the customers know what is going on before you do anything. That's customer service. Not being a greedy company that doesn't take into consideration of people being elderly or possibly them not knowing how things work. A great business owner would have apologized for the awful experience.... Not made excuses for their poor practices My dad was recently in a bad car situation and this place told my dad, who is almost 80 that they would check out his car. When I was called, they told me the car was almost $800 to fix. I asked how much was the labor. The labor was over $500 and the parts were the remaining cost. They offered a 5% discount if it was paid in cash. I told them no thank you and that I would get the car towed. They told me that I was more than welcome to get the car towed once I paid the $159 diagnostic fee. I said, did you tell my dad (because he was the one there) about this fee before you checked out the car? They said no we did not but it's a common practice so it is what it is and it has to be paid or we will not be giving you your keys back. Honestly, guac isn't even $5 but chipotle makes sure they tell you that there is an additional charge. I left my home (45 mins away) paid the fee and got the car towed. Brenda that works there was SO KIND!!! She will go places in life with her personality and kindness... but for all the rude, non compassionate, lack of communicators, money hungry, greedy individuals that work there, i hope nothing good comes to them in life. They were the owners and the employees.

The next morning, I woke up to find my car leaking oil, which was never an issue before. I brought the car back to them and explained everything, but after nearly two full days with no communication, I had to call myself. They told me they'd have an update in 20 minutes and that it would be ready by then. Instead, I received an estimate for over $1,000 worth of repairs. Keep in mind, I explained the oil wasn't leaking before the service, but they just kept insisting it was a "broken cover." They didn't even seem to consider that their oil change might have caused the problem. What's worse is they weren't even willing to take responsibility for any of it, only agreeing to cover a small part of the repairs--yet that still wouldn't fully resolve the leak. This place used to be amazing; I've recommended them to so many people because of their great customer service and unbeatable prices. But after this, I'll never be coming back, and I certainly won't be recommending them anymore.

This time around my car overheated, AC broken again, not heating, and I was quoted for a little over 3k. Decided to get a second opinion and a quote at a different repair shop and paid 1,300 for the same service and additional services. I Never mentioned the AC to the new shop and now my AC is magically fixed. I thought if I paid more, my car is protected by experts. I was wrong. Sadly, after a few thousands invested through the years, I realized this business is not protecting your vehicle, it is overcharging their customers with minor work done in hopes they come back. (In my opinion) I don't recommend. There are real mechanics and shops that are interested in auto longevity and real labor prices.

However, the evening before our trip, I realized I was due for an oil change. My heart dropped. I realized everyone and their mother must be trying to get an oil change for the first official weekend of summer. Richmond Auto Repair & Towing really helped me this Friday. My normal mechanic was too full so I looked for a place nearby. I'm so grateful I found them! I called to see if I could have an oil change. They were friendly and professional on the phone. I was told I could get one immediately (which is always a treat when every auto place is fully booked). I came in around 8:15am as a walk-in. They were done right before 9am. The gentleman at the front desk offered me two types of oils. I hadn't heard of one before and he kindly explained the differences. They have a clean waiting space and a public restroom. I'm happy to have found another trustworthy mechanic in Richmond!
