In October 2022, we hired Williams to paint our exterior trim, garage doors, and iron rail, and were impressed from start to finish. Their pricing was fair, communication clear, and clean-up thorough. The results were beautiful, and we knew we'd call them again for future projects. In September 2025, after that great experience, we brought Williams back to paint our basement and handle some drywall repair. The father-and-son team who worked with us were outstanding--professional, friendly, and reliable. They arrived on time, did excellent work, and left everything neat and clean. From start to finish, their estimator and office staff also showed great professionalism--providing clear scheduling, prompt responses, and excellent follow-up--which made the entire process smooth and stress-free. As part of this project, we also had Williams install new ceiling lights and dimmer switches. Their electrician was skilled and efficient, and the installation turned out great. Williams's name says it all - super professional from initial scoping and pricing to finishing. They took extra care to understand the needs of my old house and working while I occupied it, provided spot-on advice for specific problem areas, and recommended T&M for certain labor-intensive conditions that were priced after they did tests (removing 100-year-old wallpaper, etc.) They started and finished on time every day and on schedule overall. Everyone on the team was so courteous and accommodating, and communicated well with me every step of the way. I have used Williams several times. Most times the job has been by the hour, and we thought they were very reasonable. Most recently, we were quoted a price which we thought was a little high, and once the job was completed, in only a few hours, we thought the estimate would change. When we asked about it, we were told it was a "job" price. (Which was almost double the amount of the eight hour job we had done last year. And it took them less than 4 hours to complete the job.) So although the work was adequate, for that price, no one offered to caulk or do anything except the bare minimum for the job. And there were a few splatters and smears. This company saved me! I needed a last-minute paint job that included completely scraping off old paint that had bubbled up due to humidity, applying compound, and repainting a master bedroom. I called around to several paint companies that couldn't do the job for weeks, and some companies said it was a "huge" project that couldn't be done quickly. Williams answered the phone, booked me for eight hours with a painter the next day, and had the entire job completed in two days. The painters and office administrators were friendly and professional and the final product looks great! I don't know what I would have done without their quick turnaround time because I needed the work done ASAP for a new tenant moving in. I got a Yelp response shortly after hitting 'submit' on my request for a quote to paint the exterior of my home. In my request, besides house information (size, location, material), i included some questions i'd hoped to discuss with whoever did the quote. He said someone would call me the next day. I got a call to schedule the window during which someone would come by to see the house. I got a confirmation email for my appointment. Then, the day of the appt, i got a call at work that he was running early; could he come early? I live 2 miles from work (don't hate) so i said sure and went home. He arrived 15 minutes later and sat in his car for 10 minutes before knocking at the door (it was almost the appointment time). He did not know that the quote was for the exterior until i told him. He asked if we had picked a color. I said, "no, some sort of grey, i guess." He made a weak attempt to sell me on their design services to help me pick a color. I told him that i was selling the house and didn't care. He later emailed me a quote that was twice the cost of the other quote i had but was for precisely the same work. I didn't respond. They didn't follow up. I also called Edwards Enterprises Custom Painting and Wow 1 Day Painting. Wow gave me a quote; Edwards could not be bothered. read more

I hired Williams to paint my bathroom walls, along with some minor carpentry work there and a couple of places elsewhere. I give my point of contact (poc) at Williams a five-star rating and the work four stars, so my overall rating is around 4.5 stars. My poc was responsive to any questions or comments I had, and was timely with their responses when I left messages. My poc was good to work with. The overall job the workers did was good, but there were some minor errors that resulted in my rating for them. They corrected for most of them, but one they did not get - a little paint on the floor between the toilet and wall - was compensated for by my poc (the contractor I hired to remove the paint, which included removing and reinstalling the toilet, charged about the same amount that my poc compensated me for). read more

We hired Williams Professional Painting to paint our foyer, stairwell, kitchen, and bathroom. Mr. Williams is an extremely nice guy and a straight shooter. The painters were always on time, which was hugely appreciated, and they did excellent work. We did have to have some touch ups done - one to some stripe work that was not done to design spec...and a another to fix a crooked stripe and repaint over where some flat white had gotten on our gloss white trim. Even though they had to come out to touch up a few mistakes, they were happy to do so and were very gracious. To me, customer service is truly demonstrated when a company is polite and friendly about fixing mistakes, so I was very happy with their service, overall. And, the paint looks fantastic! Another perk - if you are interested in any design consultation, Carey Schuster is their in-house interior decorator. She is an absolute gem! Young, fresh, full of energy and ideas, and understood exactly what we were trying to accomplish. We get so many compliments on the colors and detail work she designed for us. Williams Professional Painting has done every paint and drywall job I've needed in my 3 various homes since moving back to DC from Belgium in 2005. When I need paint or drywall work done, I don't think twice about calling Rick Williams to schedule a job. Its one of the easiest parts of any renovation or touch up work I've done in any of my homes. And now I can add soundproofing drywall work to the list of things that Williams Professional Painting has handled with its same excellent standards. Cristian and his team were consumate professional. Incredibly aware and respectful that they were working in a valued customers home, they were careful not to damage my newly installed hardwood floor while keeping their work area neat and clean through the 7 day project. And after they left, there was no major follow-up clean up operation for me to undertake like I'm used to with other vendors. The place was so well cleaned by Cristian and team, there was literally nothing left for me to do after they left but put a few minor things back in their place. As far as the workmanship, outstanding! For the work that went into the installation of the QuietRock sheetrock, the GreenGlue sound dampening compound and the QuietSeal caulk, you don't notice a thing behind the expert drywall hanging, mudding, sanding, painting and trim reinstallation. All the work below the surface literally disappears beneath the great finish. Oh, and one final note that definitely bears pointing out: the sanding! Or lack of it. I've never had such a large drywall project produce so little drywall dust. I think it was a testament to Cristian and team's expert efficiency at their craft. Outstanding work! We really wanted to hire Williams Professional Painting to paint our condo but there was, in their words, "a lot of back and forth" (because we had questions) and was told "it's not going to work out" (after we asked for a definite timeline to be added to our contract). These are not statements I like to hear from people I will be paying to provide a service. We have received many estimates that all included timelines. Williams could not provide us with a timeline but had an hourly rate structure in their contract! We did request someone come see our space after all the "back and forth" but they were, "trying to save everyone some time" by just providing us figures over the phone. Maybe if they sent someone out to see our space this would have worked out... In response to the message from David W.: We did not have a hard deadline for our project. If that was noted in our file and communicated by their office staff, I think this highlights the difficulty we had in collecting information to be able to schedule our project. read more

I serve on the Board of a 75-unit condominium in Washington, DC which was in need of modernization. I didn't actually get any work done by Williams because my timeline would not work with the schedule but they actually sent me an email to let me know that they would have to decline the opportunity to work on my project. This is the first time I've ever received such a courtesy from contractors in the home improvement business, and I cannot express how wonderfully professional this is. I have had far too many experiences of contractors coming out to estimate, only to never contact me again, or to go through the trouble of sending me a quote and then never actually schedule the work. While I did find someone who was able to do the work I requested in my short time frame, in the future, I will definitely contact Williams again for a bid. Williams was by far the best of all for this house, and maybe of any contractor I've ever dealt with. They were responsive, courteous, and professional, they painted the entire exterior in less than a week, and the results were absolutely beautiful. They were encasulating lead-based paint, and took great care to mitigate the danger. All of the workers were exceedingly nice. Hi everyone, I recently hired Williams to soundproof / sound insulate two walls in my condo in downtown Washington DC. My crew foreman's name was Christian. Overall, they did a really nice job. My house was clean and put back together when they were done, the estimate was good, and they finished on time. Rick, the business owner was very attentive to my needs, and helped me get this project accomplished. Dice stars. Some specifics: 1) The company has a lot of experience with soundproofing, and I really relied on that. No soundproofing job is perfect, but I think that they did a good job improving my living situation. The in person estimate by Rick was thorough, helpful, and honest. 2) Rick hires good people. My foreman Christian was on time, polite, and very professional. He really did a nice job with the fit and finish of the job, which included finishing paint. The crew was also very good. In general, these guys are pros. 3) The Williams team is available to talk to you. I spoke with Amy and a number of others who helped me out with billing and whatnot - which was pretty great. It was really nice having a team of people on the other end of the phone. Overall, a great experience. The job was expensive, but seemed to be priced fairly given the cost of materials and labor to finish in the time required. YMMV, but I found the company to be a good value, given the level of craftsmanship and customer service. read more

This company is as good as it gets. There is a reason why Professional is their middle name, because they are every bit Professional. I have used Williams several times over the last few years and they have always exceeded my expectations. I called and asked for an estimate to paint my kitchen cabinets. I was asked to send pictures which I did. After they received the pictures they sent them to their estimator and provided a price. I asked them to call me to answer some questions that I had. I asked a number of questions about their process used to paint cabinets and how they arrived at their estimate. After questioning the price, and finding out that they charge approx. $120/hr per painter I asked for further pricing detail. They responded a day later and instead of providing the pricing detail they said they were no longer interested in the job. I asked why they weren't interested and they said it was due to work backlog issues. It's ironic how they chose to no-bid due to a backlog issue one day after me asking for pricing detail. I'm going with a more transparent company. Thanks to Kim for NOT providing the customer with a response to a reasonable request. After setting up an appointment a week ahead of time the painter did not show up for two hours. After calling for the third time he let me know he was still hanging out in the office doing paper work. He then let me know he would give me an estimate over the phone- sight unseen for almost $6,000 - he would only have to paint one bathroom and about 1800 square feet with 8 foot flat ceilings and no closets. Very basic, very simple work interior only on an empty house. I had already selected my colors and was ready to go. They will never get my business. Very unprofessional! read more

I just bought a new place in Columbia Heights and don't really have the time to paint it myself, so based on reviews, I called Williams Prof Painting. I have a busy schedule but Yanize was able to set up an appt for my free estimate that fit in with my schedule. Rick came over and gave some good suggestions and some helpful advise. I was unable to be at my home for the scheduled painting so I left a secured key for the painters; a day later I was able to inspect the work and I was very pleased. The painters left my condo as clean as they found it, didn't spill paint all over the place and obviously took time to do the edging around the kitchen fixtures. I am very pleased with Williams and will certainly call them back when I decide to paint my 2nd floor. In addition, I was not charged a cent over the estimated price. We had Williams paint the interior of our home and were very pleased. Rick came over on a Saturday to walk through the home and to make sure he understood what we were looking for in each room (i.e. colors and finish). Once we had agreed on a price, he took it back to the office and was extremely responsive and helpful in getting two of his painters over to do the job on a tight time-line. The painters themselves were fantastic. They were professional and efficient, and we were very comfortable giving them access to our home when we weren't around. They completed a pretty big job in only two days. When we noticed some small areas after they had finished that needed touching up, Rick was once again very responsive and had the painters come back later that same day to address our issues. While we did get quotes from other companies that were lower than Williams', in our view, you get what you pay for. Not only did we end up with a great paint job, but the experience dealing with Rick and his team was a very pleasant one. We highly recommend using Williams Professional Painting. read more

We could not have been more pleased with Williams Professional Painting. I first noticed their vans at another house in our neighborhood a month or so before we needed painting and made a mental note to check the company's reviews, and I can now report that the good reviews that I read are true! First, our estimator, Jose, was very professional and responsive, and we appreciated his advice on painting needs for our home. I also needed painting done on a tight schedule and, despite an initial small mix-up in the scheduling, Williams was able to very quickly and professionally resolve the issue and assured me that the project would be finished on time (and it was!), even if it required extra painters. (I should also at this point say that all of their office staff I interacted with, and in particular Yanize, were kind, professional and understanding.) The interior painting work itself was beautifully done and of excellent quality, and the painting team, Dagoberto and Carlos (along with Franklin on the first day) were professional, skilled, courteous and considerate. They arrived right on time each day and worked very hard, producing beautifully painted rooms. I felt very much at ease with them in our house and appreciated the attention to detail of their work. They really went above and beyond in their painting work. They also worked hard cleaning up all of the painting materials and dust afterwards. In short, our experience with Williams was a wholly positive one, and I would not hesitate to use Williams again and recommend Williams to others.
