I purchased two separate Groupon's, for two different people, paid twice the tax and gave twice the recommended tip so it didn't make sense to be told that only one towel would be provided. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. I'm aware, obviously that Erica played no part in any of what occurred prior to my actual detox experience and I wanted to be fair and rate it solely based on that. I regularly practice yoga since it's a great way to mitigate stress. However, I've recently started to feel disconnected from yoga. You don't get individual attention in a crowded room with 70 people. The donation classes are smaller, but have inexperienced instructors. I'm not quitting yoga altogether. To quote Ross Geller, I'm on a break. I decided to try out Pilates, which is basically yoga sans random Hindu chants. Almost every Pilates studio that I Googled was prohibitively expensive. Fortunately, I stumbled upon Progressive, which has reasonable prices compared to other Pilates studios. After reading all of the positive Yelp reviews, I gave Progressive a shot and took the Monday 8 PM class. When I entered the studio, I was bewildered by all of the fancy equipment. The instructor was a woman who was about 5 feet tall, 95 pounds. I thought to myself that the class would be a cakewalk. I was in for a rude awakening. This class pushed me to the limit. There were times when I wanted to cry. Nevertheless, it was exactly what I needed. The mantra "no pain, no gain" is so true. Many of the poses worked my abs. There were also a few which caused me to feel a burn in my biceps and triceps. And unlike in yoga classes that I've taken, the instructor in this class worked out with us- she didn't just tell us what to do. Although we didn't use the fancy equipment, I definitely got my money's worth. There are a few flaws, none of which will deter me from coming back. The studio is very small- there was only one other student in the class. The space where the class is held is literally right near the door. This will be a serious issue in the winter. Another flaw is that the times in which the classes are offered are extremely limited. There's only one class per day on Mondays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The only evening classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays. A third flaw that's not the fault of the studio is that once the L train shuts down next year, it will be a pain in the ass getting here. Nevertheless, I'll cross that (Williamsburg) bridge when I get there.

She is literally a well spring of knowledge on nutrition and Pilates. I trust her implicitly. The combination of her knowledge base and who she is as a person allows one to feel truly taken care of from a professional point of view and, in my words, I would say also from a spiritual point of view. She teaches no spirituality. I don't mean that. I mean that the sheer love she had for Pilates and nutrition and her caring nature, for me, have translated into raising my consciousness. They offer a range of classes (1hr CrossFit, power lifting, open floor to do your own thing, on wknds - bodyweight and cardio classes) at convenient morning and afternoon times to get your physical fix. At first I was hesitant about the whole "CrossFit thing", but after my first class all of that was alleviated. They encourage people to be get fit and healthy, whether that means jumping into the CrossFit culture, lifestyle, lingo, etc. or not, there's no pressure. So if you're looking for a new thing to be "your thing" it's all their, but if you're just looking for a gym with good people to get a great workout at and sweat out last night's happy-hour, this place has you covered!

I was immediately blown away by the instructor Sylvia Borowska, who is so knowledgeable about strength training. She runs her classes with warmth, energy, precision and humor. The vibe she creates along with Scott Leiendecker, who also teaches here, is women-friendly, queer-friendly, everyone-friendly--and between the two of them they have a combined 25+ years of teaching experience. After taking their classes consistently these past few months I can't believe the strength I'm building, and I look forward to working out every day. Not knowing what to expect, I started looking out for someone who could look like a boot camp instructor and other women/men who were in athletic clothing near the foot of the bridge. It was a great Thursday evening class around 6:30pm. Ariane was really nice and motivated us to work hard. Lots of sprinting drills, lunges, squats, planks, push-ups = all things that I could not will myself to do. We end up doing fartlek running - sprinting, stopping to do push-ups, more sprinting, etc from the foot of the bridge to the other end. Then we did some drills up and down the stairs at the Brooklyn side of the bridge and did it all over again on the way back to City Hall park. I was definitely sore for the next few days, and while it hurt my abs to even laugh, it hurt so good! The only odd thing about the experience is the TOURISTS who take pics of us working out. Like, really?! Creepos!! Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting my butt kicked again!!! Don't forget to bring water; it's a bit unwieldy to run with the bottle during sprints, but you're working hard - you don't want to be thirsty!

Due to work constraints, I can't get down to the Brooklyn Bridge by 6:30PM. And, I don't have to be at work until 10AM, so there's no way my lazy butt is getting out of bed for the 6:30AM classes. Would be nice if they added more night classes to the schedule that had a 7PM or 7:30PM start time.

I have to say I especially loved the affirmations because they're a good distraction from counting repetitions, instead you just recite the positive affirmations that encourage you to actually finish the workout. It's different, and I loved it! I would highly recommend this class yes!  This new location is beautiful and very accessible, Addo and Monifa are great people who are truly into helping others achieve their all around health goals!!
