They charge $388 just to come to your house. He was at my home less than an hour- all he did was turn the fireplace gas supply back on, and vacuum. This was not an emergency call. There were no added parts. I did not get a bill for 2 months, and it included a late fee charge ! They have since agreed to remove this charge, but I believe the base charge is excessive and unfair. read more

Williamson Hardware has been around forever, and I'm glad it has been. The "big box" stores advertise key cutting, but as soon as you show them an old fashioned key, they throw up their hands and say "Nope". The folks at Williamson hardware were able to get an old 1930s key. They were also able to get me a seal for an old metal gas cap that nobody else had. I was disappointed with their wood stove techs. The gasket was not the right size and the stove doors would not close. I questioned this and I got an in-your-face attitude from "Gary". It turns out that they used the wrong size gasket. I talked with the owner and he said "This was a Vermont Castings stove"? I said no. I ordered another gasket and had another tech Handyman from Ace install this new gasket and all was well. Meanwhile I received a huge bill with no deduction for the wrong size gasket and installation. I now realize this is their strategy; to send bills out AFTER THEY LEAVE. A neighbor who cleans gutters said a similar situation occurred to him. He wasn't home and a huge bill arrived and they did not clean the chimney as requested. He is still furious over their inflated costs. When I got my bill without any reduction for the gasket I paid 1/2 of a $400.00 bill and now they have decided to use a collection agency. I would not do any business with them. read more

The best place to find and buy a wood or gas stove This place is old and huge. It's a great asset to the town Very quaint and feels like a step back in time. Great place I wanted to purchase EGO power trimmer. So i took a look at Homedepot, however i know that during this time i would have to wait in line before i even entered the store. I called Williamson Hardware and they had the unit available I made the purchase online and drove over and picked it up. Just used it and it is great. We purchsed a fairly expensive coal stove from them and they were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, they discontinued selling coal. None availabe to run the stove I purchased from them. They tell me to go to a coal supplier 45 minutes away for coal. I may be old fashioned but if you sell an expensive product, you should support it. Had I known they weren't going to support the fuel, I would have bought a wood stove somewhete else and saved money. We want to support local business but if you get the same support as the big box stores, then I'll.save money and go there. By the way, the big box store nearby (Tractor Supply) has coal and has committed to having it for their customers. At least I won't have to drive 1.5 hr for coal. read more

We ordered and paid for a gas fireplace in August. The owner explained it would take 4-6 weeks for the unit to come in. LIE #1. Having heard nothing and had no responses to my phone calls, we went back to the store at 8 weeks. The owner told us the company had not anticipated the demand for the unit but that it should be in soon. LIE #2. At this point, I still had no estimate from their installer for what he was going to charge to install the unit. This was really starting to smell and I wondered if I'd been taken. I did some checking with another company in our area (Martin's) who installs the same brand fireplace and uses the same distributor. These unit are readily available within a day or 2. Not the same quality service I used to receive. I just had the chimney liner of my woodstove cleaned and the job came to almost $250 for a half hour worth of work. Really? Who makes $500/hr these days? Not even a routine doctors visit costs that much. The level of service has gone down and the price has gone up. Years ago (when Jim was supervising the job) they disconnected the wood stove and had good access to the chimney liner and then cleaned the liner from the top of the chimney and inspected the condition of the liner. This last time the service man just stuck the brush into the liner via the inside of the stove without disconnecting (I sure hope he didn't bust something- he was pushing awfully hard). I have no way of knowing if he got his brush all the way to the top - and he didn't try to clean the top of the liner from the top of the chimney like they used to. The technician looked like he was in a hurry to leave - maximizes their profits, you know. Like some other posts noted Williamson is very expensive and the level of service is spotty. Hence the 1 star. Won't use them ever again so what they're doing is not so smart, is it? read more

2 years ago we had them install a gas insert fireplace in our home and that went well and was pleased with the work, product and the timely fashion it was completed. Just a few months ago I fired it up for the season and the blower failed to work. I read the entire manual and was unable to trouble shoot the problem, so I called to arrange service on the unit. This is a quote from the woman on the phone...." I'd like to have someone look at our fireplace insert you installed 2 years ago, the blower is not working...her response...." We are busy, call back in October:...well we did twice. Got the same response from the same person, are you kidding me...she told me "we are busy" call in November"...well we did twice....you bet, we got nothing from these people. They welcome the sale but fail on service....they suck....not to mention rude and nasty on the phone. I will never shop there again...EVER....I called Fireplace Fashion in Rochester and boom were going with them. DO NOT shop at this business people....they will sell no after sale service... read more

LOVE Williamson Hardware Inc.! I frequent their store often, and they always have exactly what I'm looking for (and items I didn't realize I need!) They carry such unique products, their gift shop is incredible, and their entire staff is fantastic! They are always so helpful, attentive - every time I shop there I'm asked if I need any help by each employee who sees me. I appreciate their professionalism and the service their staff offers - you don't get that kind of service in the big box retailers. Very disappointed after a recent service call. We had the stove apart, and the replacement parts all ready for installation. First, the service tech was 4 hours late (and did not call to let us know how late he was running). When we made the appointment we made it a point to say we did not require a full-service call (chimney cleaning, etc.) and I told that to the service tech when he arrived. He installed the parts, vacuumed the stove and was out the door in 30 minutes. When our bill arrived it was for the cost of a full-service call! If that is store policy you should surely tell your customers that up front. The small amount of work we had done ending up costing us what amounted to paying someone $600/hour! read more
