I placed a curbside pickup and didn't check my order until I got home. All I could do with the food was throw it in the outside garbage. It had a terrible odor. The fried flounder crust was black and the inside was dry and brown. It appeared that it had been reheated several times. We were in town for a high school golf match and decided to stop by to celebrate our daughter's birthday, on our way home. So glad we did. Everything we ordered was amazing! I went into the columbia location today because I thought this place had vegan and vegetarian menu . Nope not true not so . We ended up leaving and it is kind of on the pricey side for columbia sc . Yep as some other poster said if you are a local you are okay with this place . Columbia and most of this area have limited eating establishments that are good . Most of them are going down hill . First off, I'm a fan of Willie Sue's. The food is good and the service is acceptable. However, we ate there tonight with another couple and we just laughed at two things that happened. First, my wife asked for some extra cinnamon for her sweet potato and the first picture is what our waitress brought. I thought we were being punked but she told us this is the amount allowed by management. Really! Second, my wife asked for a to-go box for the meal she now didn't want to eat. The second picture is the box she was brought. Again Really! I know times are tough but when you spend on average of 30 dollars a plate you would think something larger than a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon or snack size Styrofoam could be afforded. Willie Sue's was recommended by a coworker. Thank goodness it was. Walked in and was welcomed immediately by several members of the staff. Place was clean and open. Our waitress was friendly and had some great recommendations. We tried the gator tail and fried pickles. Both dishes came out with very generous portions and tasted fresh. Next up, we tried the shrimp po boy. Large Shrimp inside the sandwich with a tasty peppercorn sauce. Everything was yummy. In town on business and were told that this was an excellent steak joint. Honestly I would say just average. This is definitely no a high end joint, more like a Texas Roadhouse. Wow, where do I start or finish? As you can see from the number of photos I gave this place a LOT of chances. I just couldn't myself... I keep coming back. But let's face it, there aren't so many choices in Sumter for a nicer place. It's painful to find yourself in a small town with seriously limited choices and a 5 star palate. First visit I tried a bunch of the appetizer plates and a lunch nacho... Fried green tomatoes (see pic) are something people tend to love, these are just horrible. Look, if you are going to do them, do them during the tomato season with fresh ingredients and make them a special. Otherwise you end up with these... And that's not good. Don't put shrimp on top, or that bad sauce... A proper fried green tomato is amazing all by itself when done properly. The nachos... We love our nachos? How's about I can find a chip? Usually you never get enough cheese... Here you get to much (See pic). You usually want to actually pick up that chip and use it? Nope... Not here, you need a fork and you are still sifting through the origami nacho Jenga puzzle. The crab cakes are ok... Interesting addition of the avocado? The fried mushrooms are the best... Hand battered, but eat them fast for the best flavor and the horseradish sauce is awesome sauce... Love that tang. This was the highlight folks... Pay attention... (See pic) On a lunch visit I tried a patty melt that left my fingers to greasy I couldn't touch anything... Another try were some ribs with a salad first. WOW... I prefer my salad with more lettuce than sauce, but hey... (See pic) If that's your thing you are in the right spot. I sent it back, and 1 bite in, the ribs show up. I say to the waitress "now is when I have he discussion about food spacing" can I finish my salad please? No point... The ribs were nasty. I started eating them and all I could taste was fat... Like oily flavorless fat? I pull back the ribs and low and behold... NONE of the fat has been rendered and there wasn't enough meat to fill that flavor profile (see pic). Last night in town, I pic this place for me and 3 friends to do it up. After all, they have DogFishhead IPA... I order that filet I've been eyeing on the menu for a while... Medium well. She says "they will butterfly that" and I said "um, ok"... Thinking she can't be right about that. Well, it came butterfly, but that wasn't my biggest issue here. I'm slicing and I find the toothpick... They use a toothpick to hold the bacon on (which wasn't even good or crispy)... But it was hidden... Had no idea it was there. NOT GOOD... When I show it to the waitress she was appropriately shocked. When the floor manager shows up, he says "oh we do it like that" and then a "oh it's her first night"... To which my table makes say "NO ITS NOT"... A bold faced lie. Since I'd had many a not perfect meal I knew the other managers and asked for one. Javier came out and I explain the situation... That a lack of integrity bothered me more than another other sorry item about it. He did us right and invited us back... I asked why on earth you need to butterfly a medium well filet? Why would I get a hidden toothpick? WHY would a floor manager lie to my face? I gave it my best, I gave it my all and many a chance... I'm sorry, but they have a long way to go to actually find constancy in any way. Wait staff are great, the kitchen manger is great and so is the female I came in contact with... But Michael? 3 stars... Truth be told? I'd give it 1 if it weren't for the serving staff and 2 of the 3 managers I dealt with during my visits. They are trying hard... But we are talking a swing and a miss like 5 visits? When you don't like something they do take it back, they do try again... But how many times do you want to experience a bad meal? read more

Willie Sue's The service here is exceptional. We came here on a Monday night and it was very crowded. I am told that this place is very popular. The ladies who served us were extremely friendly and welcoming. In regard to the food we started with the buffalo wings of course! The wings were delicious! For my entree I ordered the blackened chicken with a loaded baked potato on the side. The portion sizes here are very hearty. The entree came with a huge salad which was very fresh. The entree itself was a lot of food as well. I thought that the entree was a bit mediocre. It certainly was not bad but nothing to write home about. Would I come back here? Sure. After a long day and too little for lunch, my hubs and I decided to try Willie Sue's for dinner. It was around 8:00 on a Thursday evening and we were surprised at the crowd. Not crowded, but still. To me, that's a sign of good eats. And we weren't disappointed. We were greeted and seated upon arrival and everyone we passed (other servers) greeted us cheerfully. The atmosphere was pleasant and the restaurant is bigger than it first appears. Our server was so friendly, made some great recommendations, and was very attentive. We had sweet tea to drink. It was perfect. Not too sweet, not sour, and ice cold. They do have an extensive wine, beer, mixed drink, and specialty cocktail menu. Be sure to check it out! Some of their offerings looked amazing! Next is the food. Everything we shoved in our faces was delicious!! We devoured the blackened shrimp and fried mushrooms appetizer. The mushrooms weren't greasy, they weren't too juicy on the inside (you know how fried mushrooms can be) and the shrimp were actually blackened, not burnt blackened. Next up, house salads. Bigger than at most restaurants and they were a little more attentive to their salad than just flopping some lettuce mix in a bowl. Real bacon bits, real mixed greens, a generous serving of dressing (on the side) and mine had real blue cheese chunks in it. But it comes with this croissant. Or crescent. Dude. This bread was melt in your mouth yummy. So good. Drizzled with this sweet honey butter. We're at the entrees now. And here's my only tip. After eating some shrimp, mushrooms, salad, and a roll, a ginormous bowl of the most delicious cheese grits with seafood and andouille sausage was placed before me and, GASP!!! I was full. That's how generous the portions are. Of course I ate about a quarter of it and it was fabulous. My hubs had a huge plate-filler ribeye, cooked a perfect medium rare and french fries. I swear those things are hand cut. Bottom line- if you're in Sumter, or around Sumter, or thinking about Sumter, eat at Willie Sues. Pass by those chain places and eat local! My second visit here was a little different from my first. This time we sat in a booth, rather than at the bar. We went during the middle of the week, and it was a little busier than expected. There were several birthday parties going on, so it was a little loud as well. Our server was incredibly polite and very friendly. Exceptional service. The food was delicious- I had a house salad and a pasta chicken dish, and it was incredibly filling. The portion size was a lot bigger than (almost twice the size) I had expected. However the amount of fat I pulled off diminished the sandwich. The fries were less than satisfying. They were soggy at best. I like a nice crispy French fry and these were far from it. I've been to Willie Sue's about 4 to 5 times when I'm in Sumter on business. My husband frequents this place more than me. I must say that their food is absolutely delicious!! I will tell you the first time I heard about them I was apprehensive (I was thinking it was just a bar type place that would only have wings, chips, and beer) but once I sat down and looked over the menu I started to feel at ease. Let me tell you once I received my order and cut into it and took my first bite...I was in Heaven!!! The salmon melted in my mouth it was amazing! The flounder is delicious too! If you're ever in Sumter, this is a gem you MUST check out. Also, my soon to be brother in law proposed to my sister here and the manager was absolutely wonderful and soo accommodating. Btw the bathrooms are clean and nice if you were wondering...this is my restaurant hands down every time I'm in Sumter.
