So many lovely things about this place! We had some out of town visitors that we wanted to share this hidden gem with. They told us afterwards, they were hesitant upon pulling in the parking lot. That is definitely part of the charm. Rustic meets southern charm is the vibe, and they do it well. The food was great! Shareable sides and salads, à la carte entrees. My only qualm was that upon getting home, we noticed they boxed up our sides (including about 8 pieces of fried okra) but didn't box up our entrees like we had requested. Definitely disappointed with this, as the filet specials and shrimp and grits aren't cheap and all had at least half the portion remaining. Other than that disappointment, it was lovely. read more

Goodness what a gem hidden in Rembert SC close to Sumter. I made reservations after a friend recommended that I give them a try, I'm so glad we did! The place has an interesting history, it was an old mill. I walked around before going inside to take some pics. Once we walked in, the red carpet was rolled out (the best customer service).  This was definitely one the best meals that I have ever had in my lifetime. The team was professional, friendly, courteous and helpful. The food was excellent, everything tasted freshly made with love. The next day I had No stomach pain at all, which is very rare these days when I eat at a restaurant. The lamb chops and ribeye aged steak was absolutely amazing, every bite melted in our mouths, the different flavors hit all thru our palates. The only tip I wanna make sure patrons understand. Yes it's a pricey evening out, and the sides are not included. We felt that at least one side should be included with the main dish. My 4 lamb chops cost $61 which was quite a bit. Most high end restaurants will at least include one side. Don't let this take away from your experience, just go and enjoy. It's a once a year kinda meal for us. We didn't try desert, but heard it was also amazing. It was our 32nd anniversary, and the waitress wished us many more, we didn't expect anything else. Ambiance - Great, chill vibe with an upscale feel. Comfortable, stylish, and perfect for a night out. Service - Absolutely outstanding. Gabe was clearly busy on a Saturday night but still stayed attentive to our table of six. He walked us through the specials with great detail, offered thoughtful recommendations, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. Food - The reason we came, and it did not disappoint. Our table enjoyed shrimp cocktail, duck spring rolls, rack of lamb, and the King Tut special--every dish was a hit. The large sides were truly shareable for all six of us. The scalloped potatoes, in particular, were incredibly cheesy and scrumptious. Overall - It was our first visit, and we will definitely be back. The only downside was that the hostess seemed visibly overwhelmed by the Saturday night rush, which made the check‑in experience a bit stressful to watch. It might help to give her additional support during peak hours so the front‑of‑house experience matches the excellence of the food and service. read more

While the Mill Pond Steakhouse is a bit of a drive from Columbia it is definitely worth an occasional trip to enjoy a fantastic relaxed dinner, excellent food and crisp, attentive service. The Duck Spring Rolls and fried oyster appetizers were outstanding while our steaks were the best we have had in quite a while. This place is gone downhill lately . Visited on a busy Saturday night for 7:30 reservation. Normally the wait staff is superb. Had to ask multiple water girls to get our waitress , who was apparently preoccupied. Ordered two steaks medium, one came out raw the other could only be described as shoe leather. When we asked for sauce to make the steak edible, it was apparently a 10-minute wait while they cook the sauce at which point the steak is essentially cold. Watched another table send their steaks back because they were not cooked correctly either. Apparently they have new kitchen help who are clearly untrained. When we asked for pepper at the table we were told the entire restaurant only has two pepper grinders . Totally unacceptable for a steakhouse charging over $400 for a four top. read more

My husband and I read about this historic restaurant in Google News and wanted to give it a try. So we drove from Myrtle Beach and met my college roommate and her husband there. When we entered the restaurant we were asked twice if we had reservations and each time we said we did. We entered the dining area and there was a party of four seated in the section of the restaurant that offered a view of the water. We were all impressed, until we were seated in an area that offered a view of a nonfunctional fireplace and a bare wall. We couldn't understand why we weren't seated at a table with a view. It was an hour and a half before another party of four arrived at the restaurant. One of our servers was in training and hopefully one day she will be a great server. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and the drinks were strong. Tried it once. Will never go back or tell anyone to try this restaurant. read more

Forget Vegas or Paris or whatever dining destination you have in mind...Eat At Millpond! I'm writing this to recap my two years in SC. This southern, swamp-situated steakhouse has 1st class food! Over two years I ate here at least three times and was impressed each time. First, one minor criticism...the cocktail menu could use some work (Maker's Mark old fashioned with a supermarket maraschino doesn't keep pace with everything else they have going on). But beyond that everything was consistently amazing,--from the wait staff to the food--without exception, across every visit. The wait staff always seemed happy to serve and their timing was impeccable. Cocktails arrived before apps and wine before food (a nice touch that even many upscale places miss). The food was always great. The dry aged steaks rival what you can get in any city. The sides are killer, especially the fried okra which balanced salty-umami flavors and delicate-crunchy textures perfectly (we've also enjoyed grits, potatoes, Mac and cheese...all amazing, but you need to try the fried okra). And do not leave without some cobbler. I would return to SC just for a meal here! read more

Wonderful restaurant in Rembert SC on the Mill Pond. The steaks and seafood are special. I rank this restaurant in my Top 3 of best steak restaurants in the USA!!!. Once you make it to the location, in the countryside, parking is immediately in front of the business. The servers offer a warm greeting and will cut up if you push them. There are truly no happy hour specials, but there are off the menu chef special most every day. The cost is consistent which top shelf steak houses in Dallas, Chicago, Charlotte or any large metroplex. The 20 oz bone in ribeye topped with fried oysters can't be beat!!! Excellent fine dining in the backwoods of the south. Located on an old mill pond can offer scenic views especially as the sun is setting on the pond. Food is served family style. On 5/4/2024, we had a group of 9 to celebrate our sons graduation from USC. The food was incredible, the setting was incredible, and our server (Hunter) was incredible. The 2 1/2 ride home to Greenville, in a rainstorm....not so incredible. But still worth it! We were well aware of the $$$$ price range...and that's no exaggeration. Beautiful decor and fantastic service. People were super nice and the bartender was really accommodating and they pour you an actual glass of wine. We ordered the fried oysters and they were delicious. Crunchy in the outside, tender and juicy inside with a balsamic reduction and spicy mayo. The wife and I shared an aged ribeye steak with garlic mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and the potatoes were, man oh man. So good. Happy eating. Absolutely no complaints, the food was to die for; salmon cooked perfectly (I'm Alaskan so I'm picky), the sauce for the salmon was light/refreshing/complimented it very well. A couple of years back, we treated my son, then a student at USC, to a birthday dinner at Mill Pond Steakhouse. That evening was nothing short of magical, making the 45-minute drive from Columbia more than worthwhile. The impeccable food, service, and ambiance truly captivated us. Fast forward to his graduation recently, and there was no doubt in our minds where we would celebrate this milestone. As graduation weekend at any college is difficult to secure reservations (especially for a party of 9) - we took the 8:30pm happily- because we were so grateful to get a time at all. We were seated closer to 8:45 but ordered our appetizers immediately and received them promptly. Off to a good start as both the oysters and shrimp cocktail were delicious. Yet, the magic waned when it came to our main courses. Four of us ordered beef cuts, only to find them all severely undercooked. While two diners vocalized their dissatisfaction and sent their meals back, the other two, my daughters' boyfriends, chose to suffer in silence out of embarrassment. Despite the steaks being returned to the kitchen, they came back STILL undercooked and had to be sent back a second time. By then, it was around 9:45, and the rest of us had already finished our meals. To add insult to injury, our table was cleared, and we were asked about dessert while still awaiting the corrected dishes. It felt as though we were being rushed out, a stark contrast to the leisurely experience we had anticipated. I couldn't help but feel disheartened by the whole affair. What was supposed to be a memorable evening marking a significant milestone now stands out for all the wrong reasons, leaving me with a lingering sense of disappointment, especially given the considerable sum we spent. I think what may have let me down the most was that I notified Management of our experience a week ago- and received no response whatsoever. Not even an apology. Mill Pond Steakhouse certainly doesn't exemplify Southern hospitality. The restauraunt lost a client who "once upon a time" was thier biggest fan. read more

Went here with another couple last Saturday night. We had not been here for a good ten years or so but decided to go back with the neighbors had asked about it. As usual, great atmosphere in the old house and nice and quiet with great ambience. We were seated in a table for four by the far end near the fireplace. Chances of getting a window seat, even if you ask for it, are hard to get. They are a little more upscale with the menu (and prices) since I was last hear. They offered an aged ribeye steak for $56 (same price as Hall's Chophouse in Columbia). The table ordered two filets, one medium well and one medium, one ribeye medium rare and one salmon entree. For a side we got the scalloped potatoes to split among the four of us. We ordered an Old Fashioned with Woodruff Reserve Bourbon, Scotch, Baybreeze and a glass of red wine as soon as we were seated. The waitstaff were quick to attend us at the table. Each couple also split the chopped salad. The salad was very good. The entrees came out and everyone liked them except my wife's filet was very thick and was almost close to rare. My neighbors filet (ordered medium well) was a much thinner filet and done perfectly. I think they misread my wife's order, because it was close to being raw. She ate half of it and we took the other half home. The salmon was very good and my ribeye was good, but not great. Seemed like it should've been hotter than what it was. The scalloped potatoes were very good. My neighbors loved the place and said they definitely wanted to go back. Our waitress took about ten minutes to come and give us the check...we thought she got lost. All in all, it was a good dinner. Both our bills were about $150, so if I'm going to spend that kind of money I'd probably go to Hall's in Columbia rather than drive out to Boykin. read more

They don't care about your reaction at all from waitress all the way up to manager, which explained why your steak was undercooked and nobody gave a damn.
