I obtained six different estimates. I selected Ascension Home Contractors because this was a local company and I was impressed with the great reviews. The estimate was thorough and Jimmy took time to explain everything involved. Jimmy went above and beyond on this bathroom renovation. The tile work was excellent, as was the installation of the tub. I special ordered a cast iron tub which Jimmy and his team picked up and delivered. The bathroom was renovated three months ago. Since that time, I've had different people visit the house and I shared pictures of the bathroom online and everyone was super impressed. Ascension did a terrific job with the bathroom remodel and even went above and beyond to fix a few other things. They also installed a new window to the bathroom and it looks great. I highly recommend Ascension Home Contractors and I'll keep them in mind for future work as well.

I took bids for the contract for my rental property and invited Ascensions to participate. I had got as many as 6 bids. I had a couple bids that was just so low that I had to consider that sometimes going cheap isn't the correct way because I had a deadline and had to have good quality of work to get my house on the market with a good price. So I decided to not take the gamble and go cheap and slow. So I decided to go with Ascension for a couple of reasons. One reason is because I had a good customer service experience with Ascension Home Contractors before. The confusion was on how the tiles was to be laid on the Salon floor with stencils or not. Well after half the ceramic floor was already set and pasted on the 1200 sqft. floor. It didn't look like the way I wanted. So I told Jimmy the owner that I didn't like it. Without an augment as I expected from many. Jimmy gathered his team the next day and picked up about 600 sqft. ceramic tile and reinstalled it the way I wanted. The second reason is that Ascension is like a one stop shop. They do everything. They will project management for you so you do not have to stress and find other contractors. If you need junk removal, house cleaning, tree cutting, or anything related. Ascensions have the resources to get the job done the right way and fast. Yeah I paid more of the top end for Ascension but I had peace of mind and got the job done the right way with out the worry that someone may do a bad job or run off with my money. I had a few Handymen that does work that was not insured or licensed. So be careful about that. Those are the people that may not have a big team but will give you a lower price and you will just have to take a gamble with. Ascensions is License and Insured and it is a reason why you have to pay a premium when you want good work done with good customer service. So this is why I would recommend Ascensions Home Contractors for your home or business. Also Jimmy the owner is very knowledgeable and will inherit your project as if it is were his own and make the right recommendations for your goals.

Reached out to them as my wife and I are interested in remodeling both of our bathrooms and had received several recommendations so I was interesting in talking with them. Since I had already done demo on the guest, I had a framework of a layout for the guest and master baths and shared that with Glickman. Doug and Tim (I think was his name?) met with my wife and I, looked over the space, talked with us, gave us their approach, how this would work, etc. Tim presented some potential alternatives that were interesting but that would greatly increase the scope of the remodel. Both gentlemen were very professional and polite but the conversation circled back to budget several times and the numbers that they were referencing were quite a bit higher than the range that we were thinking, which at time, I thought, 'ok, I am completely off the mark?'. After some discussion with my wife, we decided that we wanted to make a slight change to the master bathroom layout so I sent Doug the updated drawing for the framework that we were thinking. This was on a Monday. Fast forward to the following Wednesday (9 days later), I finally hear back from Doug saying that Glickman will have to pass as: "We don't think you would be happy with how this would look" "We don't want you to have buyer's remorse" "You wouldn't be happy with a smaller tub" It's every business' right to pass on work, I have no problems with that but it's the manner in which this was communicated by telling me how I would feel. If you are THAT worried about how I would feel, perhaps propose some alternatives? Especially since I repeatedly stated that it was a design framework and I didn't know if it would even work? Or perhaps just say "We don't think we can give you what you are looking for". Also, with regards to the budget numbers, I've now spoken to 6 different remodelers, the numbers that Glickman were throwing out are still 30% higher than the next highest number. And these other remodelers are reputable design/build establishments. It's possible that the numbers I'm getting are deceiving so will have to see how it all pans out. If Glickman is focused on higher end, higher budget work, then that's perfectly ok but make that clear at the start.

SERIOUSLY!!!!!!!!! :( As the owner of a small firm, I can understand why this gentleman didn't want to waste his time. I wouldn't waste mine either. Over the phone with them, we mentioned the leak, shared our ideas on some quick fixes such as sealing the bottom area around the door to see if that resolves the issue, and provided some photos that clearly showed the potential gaps to be sealed. We were communicated that Hopkins & Porter has a policy where they charge an upfront $150 fee that includes an inspection and where the balance is applied to subsequent time and materials work. We were led to believe that a technician would come, inspect the front door leak and some other home interior issues we had, and initiate some fixes. However, when the technician arrived, he only inspected the front door leak for 8 minutes, dismissed taking a look at our other issues, dismissed doing any quick fixes we had mentioned over the phone, but rather asked for the $150 check, and left. He did offer his thoughts on needing to replace the allegedly custom design door weatherstrip ($$$) and sealing a side of the door as well. That's fine but we didn't understand why he wasn't equipped to seal the door area as we discussed over the phone to see whether that would resolve our leak. After some email exchanges following the 8-minute inspection where we indicated this wasn't the job we signed on for, and Hopkins & Porter claiming they would only do things "the right way" (funny how that never came up in the initial phone call), trying to guilt-trip us for expecting an affordable solution, but at least offering to void our $150 check. We wouldn't have even engaged with this company if we knew they would just ignore everything we requested, take our upfront fee, and come up with a large estimate. After 2 days waiting for an estimate of the costs, we were fed up and asked that they go ahead with voiding our check, ending this debacle. Several weeks later, I took a look at my bank statement and was shocked that rather than voiding the check, they deposited my $150 check a few days after our last correspondence. It's disturbing that Hopkins & Porter resorts to taking advantage of potential customers by: - Charging $150 for an 8-minute "inspection" on an issue that was clearly shown in our photos, without fixing anything as we were led to believe - Parroting back potential fixes that we already mentioned when we shared the issue, without actually fixing anything - Claiming to tear up our check but not doing so, instead waiting several days later to cash it in To be honest, I've never seen such dishonesty in a local DMV handyman business.

Before the big move, I would only be in town a few days across multiple weeks but Alex met me at my home and on my schedule. I called and emailed 5 other handymen and explained in detail and with pictures what I needed done (kitchen cabinets, backsplash, crown molding in all bedrooms and living room, multiple window replacement, installing driveway lights) but Alex was the only one who came to see the house and he gave me a fair estimate that he stuck to. His expertise and professionalism were exactly what we were looking for especially since we had to manage the project remotely. He came up with some convoluted explanation about the wall of the cabinet needing to be rebuilt, the dishwasher needing to be removed, the wall next to it needing to be totally rebuilt ,the adjacent door also needing to be taken off, then needing to repaint the doors .....and on and on. Another workman showed me that the screw just needed tightening and refused to even charge me for such a ridiculously small 'repair'! He guaranteed his work for a year. The tile work he did on one tub has resulted in puddling on the floor every time the shower is used. It's been 3 months since he was paid in full for ALL of his work. Two weeks ago I contacted him to fix the puddling problem. No response ! Since my call to him the puddling is only one of a number of things that that he worked on that isn't working properly! His "WARRENTEE " isn't worth much since he doesn't respond even 3 months into the first yr! Must of been his wife or mother who wrote the favorable review before mine. A few days later, his workers showed up, unannounced, asking what they needed to do. I told them I have no idea, and my husband is not home, and to coordinate a time with him. A few days later (on a Sunday), they showed up unannounced again! My husband was out again! They asked me to pick a paint color and I asked if that is included in the price we were quoted and they said they didn't know. As I was trying to figure that out, it came out that they don't think repairing the stairs is a good idea and they can't even guarantee they won't break again for even 3 days. I asked if it would be a lot more expensive to redo the whole thing and they said it would be exponentially more expensive. I told them we'll talk to Alex and get back to them. 30 minutes later, Alex calls my husband screaming at him! He told him that we shouldn't ask his contractors about prices and that he doesn't work that way and that we should find someone else to work with and hung up the phone on my husband! He was literally screaming at my husband on the phone. And then hung up on him. There are so many issues with our experience starting with the fact that the workers kept showing up without prior notice and asking a lot of questions as if they didn't know what they were supposed to be doing. And then of course the fact that he was trying to scam us into doing something that he knew might not even last the week. And then finally, calling my husband and screaming at him and hanging up on him because his workers were asking us a lot of questions?! It's just been an atrocious experience. I recommend avoiding him at all costs. UPDATE: Alex is now threatening my husband over text messages because of our review. We are just stating facts. He said we are inappropriate to contact him on a Sunday when it was his contractors who showed up at our doorstep, unannounced, on a Sunday, and we were just calling to clear things up with him because they had no idea what they were supposed to do and were asking me a lot of questions.
