I was in charge of organizing the logistics. Which, by the way, is my least favorite thing to do in a time crunch. I've had horrible storage facility experiences in the past but was impressed by my experience with this facility. The main item being, I didn't even need to interact with anyone to get this handled. We already had enough going on, so this convenience was VERY appreciated. After a quick yelp search, Buckeye State Storage popped up. I noticed they were literally minutes from Cleveland State which was super convenient for my cousin. I immediately went onto their website and reserved their move-in special, a 10x10 for $99. I instantly received a gate code, room #, and my cousin already had her own lock from the past that she held onto. She dropped her stuff off 20 minutes later. That was easy!

There was never a person in the Willoughby location throughout December. We began receiving emails and extra fees for late charges upwards of $300, without any explanation or breakdown of fees. We finally found a person on site January 3, 2024. Our payment was located amongst other checks on their desk. The December payment was posted, however, the late fees were not removed because they needed to clear through their "supervisor". We informed them we would no longer be keeping our trailer here and left with trailer in tow We are still being charged for these late fees, and today February 6, we received an email that they were putting a lien on our property and putting up for auction. Our trailer has been in our possession since January 3, plus they were informed in-person, by letter and email that we were no longer going to rent a space. The customer service has been unbelievably poor. It is near impossible to speak to anyone about this. Phone calls have never been returned. We will now be contacting the BBB and our Attorney. I have been a customer for over 10 years and have continued to absorb the "random" price increases…read morefor the various units I have rented. Recently, I moved into a 5x10 unit at a monthly payment of $72.14. I have been in the unit for 4 months and just received an increase to $110 per month. Nothing has changed with the unit, no inherent value increase has occurred-simply a rate increase. My local contact, Amber, told me she could do nothing and if I were going to move out of my unit to do so before my next payment was due. She made ZERO effor to maintain my business, but when asked, did refer me to District Lead, Renee to escalate my concern. That was another massive waste of my time! Renee maintained my position that I would be paying over a 50% monthly increase was incorrect. My rent was only going up to $88. Semantic! My out of pocket monthly payment is going up $38 - FOR NO GOOD REASON! She told me I was brought in to my current unit on a "special" pricing deal, which was never told to me when I downsized from my previous unit and the increase reflected the "true" monthly cost plus the increase, insurance and tax (which are 2 parts already included in the $72 I currently pay). Her only offer was to raise my monthly rent to $75++, which would still make my monthly payment over $100. I told her I had found 3 different rentals for less than I was paying per month from them and was curious how Extra Space's industry algorithm that is based on market conditions and competitor's availability still maintained a price increase for the sake of price increases. She had no response, said that was the best she could do but didn't want to lose my business! LOL! Maintain my current monthly rate & I would happily stay, but she has no ability to create that level of customer satisfaction. DO NOT RENT FROM EXTRA SPACE STORAGE!!! I will never do business with them again and I will steer anyone I know looking for storage away from them.
