I took my brother to this barber shop spur of the moment and they took good care of him. Moon was such a blessing that day!!! I wanted to write an update since Frank at Franks barbershop has retired and Tran has taken over. I would like to preface my remarks by saying m son goes there for his cuts and he is extremely particular about his flat tops. Tran is willing to spend the extra time with him getting it right. I have also experienced good results myself for my own cuts. Unfortunately, I am forced to make a change to another shop with good reviews and I am willing to pay an extra 54% increase in cost, so I hope it's worth it. A truly pleasant experience to have gotten a haircut from Ms. Trahn and also to have met the man himself Frank. Incredibly friendly people, and although Frank was there he wasn't cutting hair as he's recently retired. Such a good feel to the place and will definitely return. Ok so, walked in 30 minutes to 5:00pm and had the same experience as the other 1 star reviews. Surprise, surprise...a 67 year old barber doesn't want to work past 5 o'clock on a weekday! Seriously people, would YOU!? Go to Super Cuts or something if you want a haircut after 5PM. I didn't get all upset, I just stated that I'm looking for a new barbershop and asked for a recommendation since I needed a haircut for an event that night. Frank (owner) asked the barber working in the chair next to him (Violet, I would learn later) if she could stay a little past 5 and cut my hair next. I'm so glad she said yes! Because two things happened next: 1.) Violet gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever had. 2.) I found a new barber for the foreseeable future. Thank you, Violet! I drive all the way from Saratoga for this woman to do my hair!! You tell her what you want... She makes it happen! You don't know what you... She helps you figure it out! What a great experience! I should say that this was my first barber shop experience, but it lived up to every expectation I had. It's a small place, only a couple of chairs, which was great for our needs. We were taking our 1.5 year old son to get his first haircut. Violet introduced herself to our son, making him feel very comfortable. The haircut itself was awesome! She was quick and very friendly. Violet cut my husband's hair after our son's. I think it's more than acceptable if the employees need to take a break, get some lunch, run a critical errand, whatever, that they do what they need to do. What a lot of people don't know is that there have been many times that this shop stays open late or takes late customers / last minute walk-ins because the patrons' lives are crazy hectic. Trimming a beard the right way is not easy, but Violet did a great job with my beard trim!

I recently moved to the area and am always in need a of a barber shop that can do a nice fade. I was on a breakfast fun for the family and saw Frank's Barber Shop there in the back corner of Almaden Plaza. A good fade is an art and it's easy to screw up at which point you're left with an uneven fade for a few weeks to a month til it grows out enough to fix so I'm always skeptical when trying a new shop. I ended up in the chair with Frank himself, a super nice guy by the way. Told him I wanted a low trapper fade. He knew exactly what I wanted. Not too long after taking the seat I had what is probably the best fade I've ever had! I kid you not. If you're in the area I highly recommend checking them out. No hype, just fresh cuts! read more

I've been with my old barber for around 4 years and I was just never satisfied with my double cowlicks. I found this place on yelp and decided to try this place out. I read other reviews from customers saying their cowlicks are well cleaned up. Violet took close observations of everything and asked questions that my old Barber didn't ask. I've actually learned a few new tricks from Violet that improved the way I style my hair. They run by an appointment system which is well organized and you can reach her through her cellphone once you've created that bond. OMG has it really been 3yrs!!! Well Violet and Frank are still the best barbers in San Jose :) Violet is skilled both as a barber and as a hairdresser. My daughter who lives in Paris (France) always gets her hair cut by Violet when she's in town and thinks she's wonderful. My son and husband are all regulars and frankly I can't imagine going to anyone else....except Frank! While Violet was on maternity leave Frank cut our hair and is truly gifted. These guys get it SO right! Love the fact that it's an independently owned and operated local business. Both Frank and Violet are native San Jose folk and know pretty much everything (and everyone) in this city. I love to hear the history of Willow Glen first hand from Frank and have learned everything about East San Jose from Violet (including the best restaurants). Best to call ahead and make an appointment unless you don't mind sitting around and listening to great conversation for a while till a chair comes free. They didn't have any openings until 2:20, so they wrote me in and I came back later (while walk ins are welcome Saturday's are very busy, be sure to make an appointment). I had put off getting a haircut since April. I don't have a local go to place...until now. Violet did a great job quickly and charged a reasonable price.
