I still like this place and have even gotten "real food" there…read more Pros: Staff are friendly! They nicely ground the bag of (overpriced) coffee I bought with zero complaints. The breakfast sandwiches and BLT are decently executed, but I'm REALLY not a fan of their bagels. Their bread (particularly the baguette) is fantastic, though. Note: it sells out quickly. You can still pick up your to-go order without having to deal with people. They now have a cute bookshop inside. They make their own cream cheese! Cons: If I'm paying $1.50 for an avocado add on, PLEASE don't let it be oxidized and brown and gross. This makes me sad. Parking is still a nightmare. See above about the bagels. I'm prepared for the hate I'm about to get, but I prefer Bruegger's...which is sad, as I'm sure they're produced and come in frozen. Prices have gone up, but that's to be expected. I would love, however, the option to not add on a side for less moolah. I don't want their straight from the bag chips, random baby carrots, or (somewhat icky) fruit. Depending on the timing, you may be able to get a seat. Or you may be fighting a soccer mom with 4 screaming toddlers just to pick up a to go order. Still a fan, but know what you're getting.

And they offer just enough Schmear as an extra and will toast it for you. It is a quaint place that offers a place to hang out for a while. The staff was cordial not overly friendly and seemed really focused on the tasks at hand. I would have liked to have had a better breakfast bagel sandwich selection as that is what I was looking for but most of the offerings were on toasted bread.

This new coffee shop in Hampton Cove recently opened. It is a reimagining of the previous business…read morehere, which was a wine and tapas bar. Same owners, and I think a few carryover products, such as the creme brûlée. It's on the end of the large, somewhat sparse shopping center just past Publix -- the same one that contains Lawler's on the end closest to the road. Given the size and heretofore relative under-utilization of the shopping center, parking is ample. The inside is very pretty, well air-conditioned, quiet, and strikes me as a great place to work remotely, do some creative writing or drawing, or have a lowkey hangout with a friend, family member, or small group. My mom and I went on opening day after a walk at the nearby greenway. The menu has standard coffeeshop offerings and a decent selection of snacks and pastries, many of which have a slightly more upscale, almost Parisian feel to them. Reflecting the somewhat more upscale vibe, prices are perhaps a teeny bit high, but nothing you'd really raise a huge eyebrow at. They didn't have any specialty drinks the day we went, but there are a number of syrups to add to your drink and since visiting I've seen them advertise a few concoctions like a banana bread latte. Yum! I'll have to come back and try one. As it was, I got an iced latte with dark chocolate and salted caramel flavors. My mom got a bacon and egg puff pastry for us to snack on. Each item came out in a reasonable time frame. There's a small bar on one wall that has coffee add-ins and other things you might want like hot sauce packets, extra sugar, etc. It's a nice set-up! Both items were pretty good. I didn't get much salted caramel flavor in my drink but the chocolate was rich and chocolatey; I just wish it had been stirred together a bit more, as the top layer of the drink was very milky and the bottom was heavy on the chocolate. Some self-stirring helped but I think it ideally would've been mixed as it was first added to the drink. Still, the coffee itself was smooth and not at all bitter or acidic. A nice beverage! The puff pastry was tasty and very flaky. It DID come out super hot and had a certain sponginess that made me think it had hit the microwave before it was served. I still definitely think it was made in house based on the quality and flavor, but a little less time being reheated might've helped with the texture of the pastry and the scalding temp of the interior contents. That aside, it was loaded with bacon and overall quite enjoyable. I will certainly return in the future to try out more pastries and specialty drinks. Perhaps this could become a new writing hangout for me! :)

Getting new tires in Athens the other week, I (sadly) noticed an obituary on their bulletin board for Cheryl Prince Sendowski who owned the coffee shoppe from 1998 until it was sold in 2013. This was one spot my Birthday Club group met at in the late 80s and early 90s. We enjoyed their simplistic sandwiches and iced teas. I'm not a coffee snob by any stretch, and their coffee doesn't evoke great memories for me; however, I do recall it being "fair trade," even back then. The sandwiches were good, the place was nice to relax in, and the back patio was even more eclectic with various statuary and just "stuff" hanging from the fence. Sandwiches were nothing you can't make at home, but they were good, edible, quick and filling! The community bulletin board was always clustered with fliers and business cards for music lessons, missing pets, and pressure washers. It's a local's place for locals and had one regular, Mike Maples who was conferred with the title "Mayor" of Ole Town Coffee. The gazebo out front is quaint to sit in. Do know parking is tight. There aren't many spaces out front to park. I think the back alley may have some spots. For a slice of Huntsville, I would recommend visiting OTC!
