So you have to drive a mile off the highway? It's worth the time. I had one of the best Reubens yet in NC right here. Fresh marble rye and the corned beef was very tender and hot. They of course have hotdogs and just about anything else you would want. Nothing fancy here but good food at a good price. Plenty of parking. read more

I had dinner here with my family recently, it is an absolute gem. I cannot believe I am just now learning about this place. The other reviews I've read about it say that it is as close to an authentic NYC deli shop as you'll find. Having zero experience with the NYC food scene I can't speak to that. What I can tell you is that this was probably the best Italian sandwich I've ever had. My wife and kids had a couple of different types of the hot dogs, I got to sample those as well and they were excellent. They serve the hot dog split down the middle, lots of flavor and very filling. The service was excellent, everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I liked the dining room, cooled by ceiling fans with the door open when we had dinner. I also liked the wall area behind where you order with all the local business cards. The place feels really tied into the local community...which again...makes me feel dumb that I'm just now learning about it. Give it a try, it is definitely worth your time. Be aware that the location is easy to miss even if you're using a GPS to get there. I had to do an image search so I knew what the building itself looked like. We stopped by to grab lunch today, it was our 1st visit. Ordering was easy, menus were available and the daily specials were written on chalk boards. I had the GDP and my husband had the Reuben. Both sandwiches were good. The bread was fresh and so were the veggies. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for our order, and we enjoyed looking around at the items for sale while we waited. My husband had to buy a jar of pickled eggs, he said they are FABULOUS! We plan to visit again soon to try the hot dogs there! read more

This was my first time eating at Will's Doggin' it. This place has a cool atmosphere, kinda feels like an old country store. But, don't let the country atmosphere fool you, this place is a straight up NY style deli. They have Boar's Head meats which is always a plus. I had the Reuben sandwich & it was glorious!! I opted for brown mustard instead of thousand island dressing. The sandwich was piping hot, toasted to perfection & delicious! My wife had the 2 hotdog special made carolina style with chili, slaw, mustard & onions. They have Nathans brand hot dogs & she loved them as well. We can't wait to come back & try more! Staff has always been exceptional with customer service, it's a little pricey for the area, but not for the food. Amazing pasta, and potato salad! What a fantastic local gem! We had just flown into Charlotte, and always enjoy a sandwich and chips over a bug hefty lunch on travel days. So we stopped here. Service - hands down 5 stars! Exactly what you would expect in the south! Sweet tea was delicious! Great lunch specials, delicious sandwiches, sides, chips, and other drinks! NOT a NY deli, except for the prices. Yikes! I was really hoping for more. Boars head meat... can't screw that up, right? Wrong. I've had 6-7 different items from Will's. He's a nice guy and I sincerely hope he has continued success. But... Italian sub on sweet bread and sweet pickles? Nah... "but people here love it!" he said. Yeah, and how many of them are Italian or really know what a good NY Deli is like? After all, this is Gaston County... Sorry, but it just a sweet sloppy mess on crumbly bread. Not chewy. Not salty. Not a real Italian roll or sub at all. Not even close. The spicy chicken wrap was decent, but the plethora of sauce overwhelmed the rest of it. The ghost chili cheese dog was OK, but the chili was basically straight out of a can. The Reuben was small, dry, with stale bread and barely any dressing. Not so great. NOT a NY Reuben. I could go on... Oh wait, I will. Service: not rude (like NY) but not friendly or attentive. I waited at the counter for 2 minutes and made eye contact with all 4 people working. None of them asked if I needed anything. I finally had to speak up and ask for extra condiments for my dry sandwich. I'll still go back (not sure why...) but so far I'm not impressed. This is not a New York deli. Full stop. This is a really tiny sandwich and hot dog shop that you'd drive by if you didn't know what you were looking for. It's in a small I'm not sure what-house? Tackle shop? Garage? Small, very old space. I didn't think it looked especially clean. Immediately inside there are several tables and racks with food items to buy. We walked up to a not terribly friendly young lady and looked up at the menu posted above and though she had no idea it was our first time, had she been a bit more friendly she could have directed us to the fact that the menu posted is their catering menu-WTF? I ordered a turkey sandwich and chips, my husband ordered a hot dog. He said the hot dog was not memorable, but we agreed my sandwich was definitely delicious. It was $28 which we both thought was outrageous for sandwich, hot dogs and bottled soda. I'm not sure that we would return-there are a ton of places around here to get all of that with better service. read more

Will's used to be one of my favorite places to stop for lunch in the Gastonia area, but a few months back I noticed a change of employees, which in my experience with past restaurants often leads to a change in the quality of the food and service. Unfortunately that appears to be the case here, as the last several times I have ordered a sandwich the bread has been somewhat stale and the ingredients were nothing special. On my latest order the employee completely forgot to put lettuce or tomato on the sandwich, and I had no idea at the time since I had ordered it to go. I hope Will's can get back to what it once was because their sandwiches used to be worth the drive, but as of now I don't plan to return. read more

I like chasing hot dog joints,,,this had a good yelp review, so I stopped in, I had the slaw dogs and wedges,,the hot dogs were really good, the wedges were different,,not saying bad but the flavor just didn't really match up with my dogs. We've eaten here several times and always get quality food. Today we got the Dog of the Day, which had sautéed onions, chili and Jamaican relish. Will's is a phenomenal place to get a sandwich. He's also known for his Hot-dogs! Seriously, what I can't understand is why Mcallister's Deli is still even open being no further away than it is. That place is a total rip off, and Will's is 5 minutes AT MOST from it. Very close to I-85 too. If I was traveling through and saw this on Google maps I'd plan my departure from the interstate and start looking at the menu. I'd also like to say, I help run a site that allows members to vote on monthly contests where local NON CHAIN restaurants are awarded "Best of" status for certain dishes etc. Will's EASILY won our Best Philly Cheese-steak in Gaston County. EASILY. You won't be disappointed. You also need to note, if you need lunch meat, and want good lunch meat, He carries Boarshead products and that's also what he uses in the deli. Excellent sandwiches! Loved the Godfather sandwich which comes with prosciutto, mozzarella, roasted red peppers and balsamic vinegar. It was tasty but I feel like it was a pretty small sandwich and could've used something else, lettuce or chicken maybe. Definitely want to try more next time! read more

You'd have a hard time finding better quality hotdogs and lunch meats served in The Char/Meck area. Will does it right. The prices are a bit higher than you might expect if you are used to eating lower quality hotdogs (e.g. - Cook Out - I like them and order them often, but I also know they are a whole lot lower quality and I really don't want to think about what is in them). The specials are impressive, as are the different hot dog combo's. The subs all taste as if they were straight out of a deli in NYC. The bread/rolls that Will uses definitely makes a difference in the overall meal and sets the food above the average competitor's fare. Again, I have nothing against Subway, Firehouse, etc. They have good subs and sandwich and I eat them often. However the difference between good and great is huge, and Will's serves Great subs. read more
