I think one of the reasons I didn't get any was because I've been been to Vande Walle's. Somehow I feel a strange loyalty to them. Also, I just like the layout of their store better. Candy is good, but they're not See's candy from the west coast. Don't buy their caramel apples. I bought 6 Granny Smith caramel apples at almost $30 bucks. Those were the worst caramel apples I ever wasted my money on. They were MUSHY apples. Apples are suppose to be crisp. I'm new to Appleton and have stopped at Wilmers several times. Like I said candy is good. However I feel like I got ripped off with the caramel apples.....I will not return to Wilmers. read more

Five stars and then some!! Their dark chocolate almond bark is amazing! It's heart healthy and calcium rich, what else could one want? It's the freshly made, since something that good doesn't last long on the shelf! Also, their custom design your own bars can be made in milk chocolate, semi sweet or a mixture and one can add four ingredients. Personally, I like the Wisconsin cherries with sea salt, almonds, cinnamon, and a mixture of chocolate. Out of this world!! We stopped in on a rainy/snowy day. They looked like they were closed because we didn't see any lights on. We did notice the OPEN sign so we parked and went in. Well the reason the lights weren't on was because there was a power outage in the area. That didn't stop them tho. We had read about their make your own chocolate bar and wanted to do that. When we got to the bar area there was a group already there deciding on their choices. The two ladies (Barb & Melissa) behind the counter were doing a GREAT job without power. They apologized for the inconvenience a bunch (not needed.....it wasn't their fault the power was out) and just handled everything so well. Once they had the group mostly taken care of they turned their attention to my wife and I. Both of them were super nice and very friendly. We had a great time watching them make our bars and talking to them. We would definitely recommend anyone in the area stop in!! They are awesome and fun!!! read more

We came here to try out the local chocolate shop while visiting from California and were not disappointed! In fact, we loved it so much I ordered online from them a make-your-own chocolate bar for delivery all the way to Cali! The weather here is always up and down so delivery was tough, but they called me as soon as the order was placed to discuss options. Even when it couldn't ship after a week they called back and personally explained the reasoning (dumb California weather!) THEN, I got a confirmation that my order had shipped without having to contact them again! Anything I want in my giant candy bar? Well, thank you! We were on a weekend adventure in the Fox Cities and our hostess selected Wilmar for a tour and candy bar making session. We were lucky enough to have a great hostess who coordinated with the store ahead of time to allow us to select everything we wanted in our candy bars. 80% of the candy was ready for us when we arrived. We started with a brief overview of the store's history and then we were lead to the back to watch them make 5 of our chocolate bars. What a fun experience! I can't say enough of how great my candy bars were and how welcoming the store was to all 18 of us. In addition to my 2 candy bars, I got a box of melt-a-ways, some Pop Rocks (yeah, for real) and candy lips. Everyone enjoyed their gifts very much. Every year a special group of high school friends from all over the US meet up in our home town of Appleton for a long weekend of fun. Part of this year's get together included an impromptu trip to Wilmar Chocolates. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly greeted by the owner and offered the most delectable samples of their creative (and award winning) chocolates. The daily special was their "S'More" bar. Let's just say I shamelessly asked for seconds... We all purchased boxes of assorted treats along with a stash of freshly made caramel apples. Frankly, it would be tough to name a favorite because it's all so good! I used to come here when I was a kid, back when it was mostly stuffed from end to end with cheap candy, the archetypal small-town candy shop where you could afford something even if you only had a few scrounged pennies in your pocket. Now it's a fancy upscale chocolate shop, although they keep a little bit of penny candy around at the front of the store. The chocolate is pretty good -- American style, pecan turtles and meltaways and bridge mix, and bar chocolate with fruit and nuts.
