On our way home from the Mile of Music we needed some dinner so we checked out reviews for nearby Mexican restaurants and Gonzalez's looked good. We could have sat outside but opted to dine inside so we grabbed a booth. We were quickly set-up with some chips and three types of sauces including one that was more of a cheese sauce. The red and green salsa had alot of heat - good but wow! I ordered the chorizo and ground beef enchiladas which had very good flavor and not too hot sauce. The plate was well presented compared to the average Mexican place. My wife got the chicken burrito - it was huge. She gave it a thumbs up. The food was great, service too. Super huge portions, we couldn't finish it all but it tasted amazing. Very flavorful with great presentation, and liked the Vera Cruz sauce. Although we didn't have one the margarita menu looked interesting too. We were already talking about coming back. It was nice to find a new place at least to us. read more

My wife and I have been looking for a really good and realistic Tex-Mex restaurant since moving here from Fort Worth, TX about 3 years ago. I've enjoyed some good meals, and a few really bad ones, but I find that most restaurants fall short especially in seasoning, heat and often even in creating an accurate representation of items on the menu. We ate at El Sabor a few days ago and the food was so perfect - it was exactly what I would expect from a top rated Tex-Mex restaurant in TX, NM or AZ. If you wish to try truly authentic Tex-Mex no need to fly SW to find it. We have it right here in Appleton - visit El Sabor! 5 out of 5! BTW, if your tacos come with lettuce - that's Tex-Mex not Mexican food. I almost forgot to mention - we eagerly filled up, then ordered two more entrees to eat at home much later. This restaurant is located at the previous location of 5* MiCasa. Without a doubt, hands down MiCasa was the best Mexican food in Appleton. The location is the same, and a fresh coat of paint is on the walls, however El Sabor is absolutely, positively, without a doubt one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have ever eaten at. For starters: I ordered a skinny margarita. The skinny margarita here is lime juice, triple sec, tequila. But wait.... there's more! At El Sabor they add club soda to the skinny margarita and I am 95% sure they skipped out on the tequila part altogether. First time I've ever had a margarita made with soda. Chips and salsa were good. I ordered a chimichanga which was not good either. Chicken I am confident is canned chicken. My lady ordered two tacos. Again, the chicken was dripping water which had the salty taste which is noticeable in canned chicken. This is not Mi Casa, this is a new restaurant with new items and new ownership. This same building which used to crank out fantastic Mexican food is now on par with Taco Bell. So sad. RIP Mi Casa, and RIP to anyone's appetite who tries to down a plate of canned chicken at El Sabor. read more

I usually receive great customer service here and delivery goes smoothly, not today. The so called manager, I believe some kid named Diego, was extremely rude. I was delivered the wrong order, I called and he explained what must have happened and I said ok can my order be delivered, he said I was delivered more food than I originally ordered anyway, I can just eat that. Wow! He then said I can bring that order back to the restaurant and he will make my order. I said I can't come in, that's why I got delivery. He said well I can't do anything about the delivery so I said just give me a refund. He said fine and hung up on me. He was extremely rude. It's unfortunate because the food is good. I went to the restaurant and asked if he was the guy that I spoke with. It was. I told him I didn't appreciate getting hung up on and he said I was rude because my response to him telling me that I could bring the wrong order back was that it defeats the purpose of getting delivery. This kid kept saying "ma'am, ma'am. I have customers. I'm not going to go back and forth with you" Like he wasn't a rude little A-hole. He finally handed over a $20 and I left. Horrible experience. And there's no higher ups to go to about the way I was treated. read more

Pros: super friendly staff, welcoming environment, clean, food is fresh, you can tell they genuinely care about their customers experience. Cons: food could use more spice and flavor, barely any alcohol in margaritas, and a little on the pricey side and seemed under staffed. read more

Visiting from FL and originally a CA guy, so I know great Mexican food. I am so impressed with the Fajitas here, which they even prepared without onion for my girl who's alergic. The food at El Sabor is easily the best Mexican I have had. I ordered the molcajete and it was fantastic. The steak and chicken were well marinated and the shrimp was nice and fresh. The taco fillings are the best you can get in Appleton. We find ourselves coming back time and time again, and the house margaritas are delicious!! The green creamy salsa is smokey and delicious, my husband puts it on everything. The chorizo is smokey and delicious, the El pastor is very flavorful and tender, as is the chicken and carnitas.
