I usually try to find hidden gems wherever I travel, and I came across this place from one of the NFL Packer player's wives Instagram. This place is such a hit for me that I will absolutely be coming back the next time I'm in town. The food/ingredients are so fresh and you can tell they are local. It provided such a great combo of flavors but wasn't heavy or overpowering... honestly, it was just right and hit the spot. The place is also such a cute little place and has a great ambience for a date night especially. It's tucked away from downtown yet it's right by it. I highly recommend anyone to try this spot.. just be sure to make reservations since it's a small space and it fills up very quickly, even on weeknights. This was our second time in ellinor, which I felt had a better menu offering. The roasted cauliflower was a light but delicious start for dinner. For the main course, I had the duck breast which was tender with light sauce. My wife had the Carbonara pizza which was great. We had the Panna Cotta for desert which was flavorful. We booked a reservation to celebrate a mini achievement in our lives and we are so happy we did. I want to stress, MAKE A RESERVATION. Very small chance that you will get a walk-in, especially on the weekend. They did have carry out as an option in case you are craving their food but they don't have seating availability. Atmosphere: Tiny little building. Street parking only. The inside is very cozy. The chairs are a little uncomfortable since there is no upper back support. They have a nice little bar area to sit at and you get to watch the team work their magic. They have a single person unisex bathroom and it was super clean. They also do hand towels instead of paper towels which is a cute touch and a nice dedication to sustainability. Food: The food is so delicious. The quality of ingredients is fantastic. I love the diversity of the menu and ingredients, some of the items you can't find in most other restaurants in the Fox Valley. I can't wait to come back and try more items off the menu. Service: Above and beyond that is why this is getting 5 stars. Taylor/Tayler*? had impeccable service. One of the items we ordered off the menu had a mishap that was completely unexpected and the staff was confused. They went above and beyond to rectify the situation. Wow, this is a must-visit for Fox Valley foodies. The interior is small and intimate, and although it could get crowded and noisy, it never felt cramped or disruptive. The service and staff were all incredibly professional, you can tell that they take their jobs seriously and value their work. The food is phenomenal, with a depth of flavor and texture not really found anywhere else in Appleton. We had the bone marrow for a starter, which was so rich and flavorful that it almost felt sinful. We split the duck breast for our main, and they were kind enough to create two plates for us!!!!!! It was delicious and creamy and amazing. For dessert, we tried both the sponge cake and the butterscotch pot de creme. The butterscotch pot de creme was by far the better choice--should have listened to our waiter on that one! Although it's pricey, the food here is well worth it. A cozy and intimate establishment located within the neighborhoods of Peabody Park. Elinor's usually requires reservations for peak hours due to its limited seating, but the wait is worth it. Their menu changes seasonally, so we decided to try a few things of their winter menu options including the braised short rib, Jacob's sausage wood fire pizza, and the sweet potato and burrata appetizer. All were quite tasty and the cadence of each dish was nicely spaced out. I suggest making a reservation on Resy and making it as soon as you can. We booked a few days out and the peak dinner times were already taken. Our waitress was so sweet. She painted a perfect picture of the food as we tried to decide what to eat. Even when they got busy, she stayed patient with us and didn't rush us. I brought a group of 12 to Ellinor to celebrate a milestone destination event in Appleton. Planning a special brunch (for which I rented the whole restaurant) began a month before with Lindsay, who owns Ellinor with her husband Adam, the chef. Lindsay couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, getting me updated menus and a significant list of wine offerings. Veronica was our delightful and super helpful server. As for the food, everyone raved about their meals. Our group shared the following appetizers, which were sublime: Roasted Cauliflower, Ocean Trout Crudo, Cous Cous, Asparagus, and Peas & Buratta. For mains we had Duck Breast, Alaskan Halibut, Fjord Trout, Wood Burger and the Ribeye. Most of the group were foodies, and they all said their meals were excellent. I sampled all of the appetizers I mentioned and was wowed by every one. I had the Alaskan Halibut, which was perfectly cooked, moist and flaky served in a bowl with a delicious broth. Phenomenal! Finally, the Ellinor room, which is airy and light-filled, sits in a distinctive stand alone building (which in prior incarnations was a furniture refinishing shop, local five-and-dime, and photo shop) in a beautiful residential neighborhood. Truly unique. Next time I'm in Appleton, I'll be back. And for those of you who are up for a trip to experience great food, I'd set the GPS and take a ride. You won't regret it. read more

Ellinor hosted a charming dining experience. Our waitress was attentive and the vibe is very laid back. We started with the cauliflower which was to die for. My husband had a pizza (very tasty homemade sausage) and I had the duck. Both good. We ended our meal with the caramel ice cream. If there is a heaven, that's what I want to eat every day! I gave four stars because at times it felt stuffy, almost uppity. Some people are probably fine with that. You do sit very close to people so during quiet times it veered into uncomfortable terrible. Finally made it to Ellimor, late on a Friday night! We walked right in and were seated immediately. Delicious appetizers made it hard to choose, but we ended up with the most adorable crab cakes and cauliflower. The crab cakes were delicious and had so much flavor and fresh herbs. For entrees, we split two pizzas and a burger. The burger was delicious ambit the pizza was even better. Ellinor, a small upscaled local haunt nestled--or more so squeezed--into Appleton's Peabody Park neighborhood, leans more towards quintessential than stereotypical. Its menu is seasonal, but it (thankfully) doesn't scream winter farmer's market. Their take on meat and potatoes echos Midwest comfort, but it's not without flare and refinement. The ocean trout, a lighter fare, was texturally perfect and almost technically flawless. The herb oil could have popped more. Ellinor will be either loved or avoided for its intimate quarters. While some community-prone diners, like myself, will enjoy the buzz of neighboring conversations, weekend frivolity, and the occasional first-date jittery laughter, others will...well...hate it? If you're the type to factor booth availability into your dining choice, don't go to Ellinor. The only time I did feel too close for comfort was upon our on-time arrival. The front entrance took me back to my first and only time on a stage (the dreaded and mandatory school choir). The foyer was nonexistent, and since our table was not yet ready, we were forced to wait at the front of the small dining area. Curious diners peaked over from time to time as we waited.. and waited. Next time, if the weather is bad and I can't wait outside, I may show up 5 minutes late. Our server was kind and unimposing, though his wine paring recommendations weren't confident, and his answers to our menu questions were so brief, they felt short. Overall, the staff stayed busy, but never hurried, keeping the bustling ambiance from becoming too hectic. This was my second time at Ellinor. If I'd written a review the first time, I would have given it 3 stars. Our pizzas showed signs of an under-heated oven and our appetizer was under-seasoned. But it had just opened. I didn't want to write a review because it felt more like new restaurant hiccups than their norm. I'm glad I came back. Next time, I'll try the pizza (again). read more

Went there on a cold night with a good friend. The building is small and cozy. The wine selection was good though most were pretty expensive. We started with the farro salad then for the main course I had the squash tart while my friend had the short ribs with black truffle mash. Both were delicious. Serving sizes in general were small so I had room for dessert and coffee. Pretty expensive for what you get but it was very, very tasty! read more

Was taken to Ellinor's last night for my birthday. 1st time for me, 4th for my hosts. An intimate setting with 9 tables and some seating at the bar. I had made a reservation for 7 pm and our table was ready when we arrived. Because I mentioned in the ressie that it was my birthday, I was greeted with a hand written note from the staff wishing me a Happy Birthday. I was pleasantly surprised. Veronica was out attentive and hospitable server...very menu knowledgeable and patient. she helped make our visit as enjoyable as it was. Food and beverages were DELICIOUS and plentiful. Their menu changes 3 times a year so starting 05/01/23 new entree choices will be available. My hosts are hoping they have their famous scallops back on the new menu. Fingers crossed! We were treated to a complimentary dish of their homemade caramel ice cream, with a lit birthday candle and a rather quiet rendition of "Happy Birthday", which frankly I didn't mind. The owner and chef Adam also stopped by to converse with us; such a friendly person. We started out with marrow which we have never had before and it was excellent! Definitely recommend if you haven't tried it. We then moved on to some cream of mushroom soup which had a bit to many mushrooms for my liking but the flavor was spot on. Then we moved onto the prosciutto, house made ricotta, honeycomb and toasts, another fabulous choice. We then ordered the meatballs and they were perfectly tender but wish they had more garlic and herb flavor in the meat and the sauce. I like bold flavors and this didn't do it for me. Lastly we ordered the cheese pizza which had locally sourced mild Italian sausage, pepperoni, red onion and black olives, we held off on mushrooms. This pizza was very very good. Cooked in wood fire oven was nice to see. They cook most of the food in the wood fire which was pretty cool. We loved the ambiance and service. We also enjoyed watching the chefs at work. Try this place today, the menus change so inquiring before you go is always helpful. Don't forget to ask about the popcorn flavor of the evening, it rotates and is delicious! Really nice new place in Appleton. It's very small, but they did a great job with the design. We walked up on Friday around 5:30 and had about a 45 minute wait. We found out they do offer call ahead seating, so we will do that next time.The menu was interesting and we ordered the olives & cheese, along with the toast with goat cheese and tomatoes. Both were delicious. The wood fired pizza was great and they had a lot of interesting options, as well as a build your own. My husband and I arrived for dinner without reservations - the blonde receptionist told us they had a party of six string at 6 pm so we needed to be done by then. We had an hour so said yes - we ordered right away; we enjoyed wine, our appetizers and then waited for dinner. A guy boxed up our dinner and explained that they needed our seats (we were at the bar and the couple beside us was done with their dinner - we knew them). Since it was 6 pm, we understood as we didn't have reservations. This is where everything went wrong - we paid for our boxed up meal and I waited for my husband at the front of the restaurant with our foo when he went to get the car. A couple standing at the front asked my how it was and I explained that we hadn't eaten our meal due to the restaurant needing our seats for a party of six. The couple was then seated in our seats by the blonde receptionist who told me that they had a party of six and was the reason. Why we needed to be done by six. After arriving home, my husband decided to drive back to the restaurant because he received salmon and not trout and my pizza wasn't very good. The owner listened to my husband who explained that the receptionist lied to us and the guy at the bar boxed our food up and kicked us out for another couple vs a party of six. They are the reason I have no desire to visit the restaurant again. The waitress was very nice and we enjoyed our appetizers - just not certain I have any desire to visit this place ever again because of the receptionist who lied and the guy who boxed our food up and kicked us out. read more
