If you are looking for no frills, mom 'n pop-style cooking, then Randy's Diner is the place for you. Located within what looks to have been an old drive-in eatery complete with outdoor picnic table seating available under its awning, you'll find the friendliest server, cook and locals inside (by using the side door)! I ordered the 2 x 4: two eggs, two slices of crispy hot bacon, two beautifully spiced pork link sausages and two fluffy pancakes with syrup and butter spread on the side. The breakfast meats were the highlight! My coffee was hot and fresh. Topped off frequently too. Prices are very reasonable. The single stall, male and female restrooms were very clean, fresh and well stocked. What an enjoyable way to start the day! A good find worth recommending.

Denver omelet with hash browns and a biscuit

We stopped in for breakfast this morning. I had the Denver omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. Talk about delicious, simple comfort food. We're already planning to try lunch here tomorrow.

Eggs, sausage patties, and "smoked sausage".

The waitstaff were very nice and attentive. The eggs were done perfectly over easy. All of the food was prepared and served with care. They really need to step up the food quality, though. The sausage patties were of the typical restaurant food service "flavorless discs of hate" variety (think Sausage McMuffin). The "smoked sausage" was a jumbo frank, and while that is technically a "frankfurter sausage", it's not what I expected when I ordered. I hope they get these issues sorted out. This could be a really nice place to go for breakfast.

Randy's Diner has old school decor and good breakfast. I had the 2x4. Good value and good food. What more can you ask for?

Worth a stop…read more I picked this place out from my map function because it looked interesting, on the water, and near an historic, old railroad bridge (Trail Creek Swing Bridge). It is my first time here, and for a late afternoon linner. The place did not disappoint--for the most part. It is open air with a beachy, boaty, picnic tables-under-umbrellas vibe. It overlooks the water, a marina, and the name inspiring railroad swing bridge which makes for an interesting visual environment. Thankfully there is no attempt to force an out of place theme, sparing us from steel drum background music. Interestingly though, the only nod to the railroad structure inspired name was an old school railroad crossing sign at the entry otherwise everything else is boat marina feel. Our server was friendly and efficient. My hefty burger was thick and juicy. The coleslaw was fresh. The disappointment was the fries. They were more like shoestring fries and came dried out/overcooked. The sweet potatoes fries were a better bet. The lackluster fries were not enough though to lose a star. Overall the experience was a satisfying one and at a reasonable price. I would definitely come back especially as a very nice alternative to the other railroad name inspired brewery restaurant in town.

Found a couple promising choices and we settled on northside diner. And it was a great choice. Inside it has that quirky retro 50s, nostalgic feel. Memorabilia and art around the small building. Standout performances by the service staff. As it should have been, it was extremely busy on a Saturday morning. There also happened to be a festival in town. Which may have even subtracted from the amount of people waiting to get a booth, as there were some food trucks and other activities going on. But that being said, we sat at the little counter and ordered your basic breakfast with eggs and bacon and toast plus some biscuits and gravy and I was pleased that I didn't order the full-size biscuits and gravy because the half size was as big as a normal size at other restaurants. Gravy was full flavor, not gritty at all, and there was more than adequate amounts of sausage. Sometimes you have to play hunt the sausage, which is just a scary statement. I had ordered an extra well-done sausage patty just in case I needed to cut up more and had it. But I would've been OK without. Happy with our choices plus a tremendous value. Highly recommend anyone coming into the Indiana dunes area looking for a great breakfast value I believe the place closes at 1 o'clock, so keep that in mind. Now we were there on a Saturday so please check hours. Enjoy.

We ordered the Elote Pizza, and overall it was really good. It had a nice wood-fired crust that was probably the highlight of the meal. The only downside was that it came with a garlic aioli that was very heavy...there was so much on the pizza that it overpowered some of the other flavors. I think it would have been even better with a lighter hand. For drinks, I had one of their sour beers and my husband ordered an IPA. Both were good, but neither really stood out as anything particularly memorable. We sat at the bar, and the bartender was friendly and took good care of us. The layout of the brewery was a little unexpected. We walked into the main entrance, then the host brought us back outside and over to a separate building where the bar is located. It was a little confusing at first, but it ended up being a neat setup. The restaurant was clean, with a spacious dining room and a nice-looking patio. The only thing that kept this from being a higher rating was the value. It felt a little expensive for what we ordered, and while everything was solid, nothing really wowed us. Overall, I'm glad we stopped in, especially as a place to escape the heat for a while. If you're in the area and looking for a casual meal and a local beer, it's worth checking out...I just wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to visit again.

Spoke to the manager who was very unapologetic and didn't seem to care about treating your customers well. Pretty much said that's their policy even if you happen to come just 5 mins before close. Food was average, their "award winning" lamb burger was not medium rare as stated on the menu. The only saving grace was our waitress who was very attentive and empathetic. Will not venture here again nor will recommend anyone to go here.

They were above welcoming to our dog and gave him a bucket of water. The food was great and so was our server. I wish I remembered her name but she really hustled and checked on us many times to refill drinks and see how everyone was doing. I'm sure it was stressful for her with the kitchen delay, but you wouldn't have known. The food was great, correct, and hot. They had live music and it's a really cool location- you can see the river, the light house, the place where they launch boat tours, and the factory. Just maybe bring a pack of cards if it's busy! We would go back in a heartbeat.
