there is a update to this story, i called over to the sales to speak to a manager explaining my issues, Ron Willson called me back a very nice man and took care of my situation, they will have it done on monday the service person that i talked to gave me bad information he is new. the point being is they do care which makes me feel alot better about a hometown company that grew into a monster size. Thank you Ron. Terrible experience absolutely terrible, with trying to get oil changed and other small work done, i took it in for an easy fluid change 3 weeks ago small little 17 foot star craft i called a week later they took the boat in went through the boat said i need a cable small part, ground cable i just called the cable came in tuesday they can get to it maybe for another 2 weeks what kind of service is that, 5 weeks and they have done nothing for me. that is terrible service. cant do a lower end change and replace a cable in 3 weeks now they cant get to it for another 2 weeks, i am so upset this place is terrible we need smaller boat service companies to help with the smaller guys. Im going to go get the boat they are not doing the work i will take it somewhere else and still get it done faster than what they can. This is an extremely dishonest company. They don't do winter maintenance like they claim to and ultimately if you buy a boat from here or trust them to do what they say they are doing for maintenance you will likely end up with a boat that doesn't work so they can likely trick you into buying a new one. The sales guy Paul has terrible customer service skills and lies to get a sale. We were warned by multiple people NEVER to do any business with them. Paul claimed them to have done all the winter maintenance on our boat and we ended up with a filter that was never changed for the life of the boat which should have been changed at least 2x by this point so disintegrated it fell apart and got sucked into the fuel pump and fuel injectors. We've lived in Howell most of our lives and always looked forward to the day that we could afford to live on a lake and buy a pontoon boat from Wilsons Marine! A store that we've driven by and looked forward to being involved with someday. Finally, the kids are all grown, we're in our 60's, semi retired and able to finally live the dream! We purchased two boats from Wilsons. The first a $30k Bennington pontoon. We loved our first boat and we owned for about five years but we needed a bigger & better one so we traded it in for the second, a $100k Bennington pontoon. They offer great customer service when you're in the process of making a big purchase. They even throw an annual Bennington party that's a lot of fun. They give you a discount on their other products for the first few years and have a great selection of docks & hoists for your convenience. The sales guys are great, really friendly and knowledgeable. Then, once you complete your purchase you deal with the service people. Not so great... Our first boat had several issues and we had decent service altho, we had to be persistent about reminding them not to forget us on every call. We also purchased several sections of docks, a hoist and several other items. They had Russ Booth back and he did his best to make your experience good. We could see that they were getting busier and busier but they always got back to us and treated us with some respect. This past winter we decided to splurge and store our boat in an inside storage area with Wilsons Marine. We figured, it was our new boats first winter plus it was a good opportunity to hire them to clean the pontoons, as they had rubbed against the black bunkers on our lift and got black residue on them as well as have them replace our Bimini cover with an electric one, as they were sure it could be done at the time. They took our boat in the Autumn of 2017. We never heard from them over the winter. Spring 2018, we retrieved our boat only to find, the inside of the boat was full of mold on the seats, the floor & inside the storage areas. Plus, there was standing water inside the storage boxes, under the seats, inside the third pontoon and even the foot rest. There was chewed up sawdust from a rodent being inside the third pontoon storage area. Everything that was left on the boat was destroyed and needed to be disposed of. It's as tho it was stored outside, uncovered? They charged us $400 to have the pontoons cleaned up. The pontoons were not black now but a horribly scratched up mess (photo attached). They look worse now then they had whenever they had a few black streaks. They told us that they would be as shiny as new. Not even close. And lastly, they told us that they were unable to replace the Bimini cover as they thought they could. It was an overall huge disappointment. We've reached out to them over and over, even gone into the store a couple times, to try to talk to someone, to let them know that this was not good. They always say, "Someone will get back to you." They never do. They've yet to respond to us except for one voicemail saying, "One of our guys will stop by your place on their way home this week." That was two weeks ago and we've yet to hear from them again. It's disturbing to see a hometown company that has had so much positive involvement in the community and has so much to offer, become so greedy & neglectful. We would NOT recommend buying anything from them. We'd suggest that maybe you should go to a small town marine store that will appreciate your business and help you after your purchase as well as during. As one of their outside guys rudely told us, upon picking up our hoist guides the other day and asking if they had someone available to help us lift the guides onto our trailer, "We've gotten so big that we don't have time to help everyone!" read more

Wow what a disappointment! Purchased new boat Spring 2020 along with the service plan in which Wilson's would repair boat at dock or if needed would pick it up and return it when done. Well they didn't tell us it would be one year +, one dozen phone calls, one dozen emails and an abundance of texts to get them to provide service! NO EXAGGERATION - July 2021 they show up to repair cover (from delivery), repair ripped seat found day after delivery, depth finder replaced, and reattach ambient lighting noted BEFORE delivery. Worked on boat at dock and fixed cover, restapled the lighting (2nd time) and replaced depth finder but ordered the wrong side seat and would have to re-order and return. Another 1/2 dozen texts/calls later a request to pick up our boat up 1st week of August because it would be easier to repair it in the shop along with a new issue - moisture in the radio. AUGUST REALLY - really one of the busiest boat months, oh and then COULDN'T guarantee it would be fixed within a week! So now here it is October25th boat was picked up Monday October 19th to repair seat and replace radio. The discussion was clear at scheduling and at pick up that we HAD to have boat back by October 26th (8 days later) so we could have it ready for storage 11/1 last day to take to facility for storage. Called today October 25th to check on status and GUESS WHAT - they didn't even start on the boat until the afternoon!!! Oh and never ordered a radio because they do not see any moisture in the radio. When reminded they got pictures in July showing the moisture they needed them resent and now agree but will have to request approval. We are not people that harp until harping is necessary!! My husband is an auto technician, understands the issues with supply demand and is very laid back. Ridiculous is an understatement and we will NEVER purchase from Wilson's Marine again. We will NOT HESITATE to share our experiences. SERVICE IS NOT THEIR FORTE!!! read more

Left numerous messages and no response back in a purchase of a boat, Wilson marina lost a hometown customer.. very poor servuce

My neighbor and I were both looking for lifts for our pontoons. After going to the boat show in Detroit in 2019, we received a quote from a vendor that showed a complete bill of materials included in the quote, along with their price for the lift. We then ran into Wilson Marine at the show, and asked them to provide us a quote as well. We worked with Todd, provided him with the full quote we'd received (including the BOM), and asked for his price. He came back with a very competitive quote, and we chose Wilson to buy our lift from, not only because of the price, but because the lift was a better quality lift as well. Their price was more expensive than the original quote, but the lift quality sold us over too. Fast Forward to May when the lifts for our pontoons were being installed, and the installers asked me "is that the boat going on the lift"? I said yes, and they told me they only had one set of bunks, and were told they were installing a V-hull boat, not a pontoon. Seems our sales rep Todd managed to find a way to convert our pontoon to a bow rider... After calling Wilson to tell them of their mistake, they wanted to charge us $500 more for the second set of bunks. My neighbor and I pushed back, telling them we shouldn't have to pay for their mistake, but we finally settled on an extra $100 for the second set of bunks required for our boats. They were delivered same day (pulled from other dock kits they'd sold), and installed. BUT...where were the guides we'd had quoted by the original company, and why weren't there any included with the lift kit being sold by Wilson? Seems our good friend Todd neglected to include those in his quote as well. We both ended up having to shell out another $900 for the guides, and an additional $250 to have them installed. If you want to do business with Wilson, BE WARNED! If you get Todd as your sales rep, RUN, don't walk to management, and ask for another rep, OR, just go elsewhere. I'm done with Wilson. Hopefully this review will save some other customer the cost, and pain, of having to deal with a sales rep that doesn't know what he's doing, and a company that doesn't seem to care about taking care of their customer after their sales team screws up a sale so royally. On the plus side, the MAX Lift is phenomenal, especially with the motorized lift system. The install team of H2O Dock & Hoists was great to deal with as well. I'm a little late in writing this and apologize for not doing it sooner. We were experiencing issues with our 2017 Bennington 21SLXP last summer. At the end of the season, we took our boat into Wilson's service department and was greeted by Ron Rattai. Ron did a complete walk around with me addressing my issues. What was found, Bennington was to be called in. NOW, I'm really concerned. What's going to happen now, and how much out of pocket expense am I going to endure! Freighting to say the least. A couple of days latter, I get an e-mail and phone call advising me that everything was being taken care of! It took a while, but the work was completed and who ever worked on this boat treated like it was their own. I'm not new to this and have done business with other dealers with dismal results and disappointments. I've had to use Wilson twice now and both experiences was better than expected. It's one thing to purchase a new boat, but a whole different animal when trying to get service. Worst place ever. Took my boat it because it wasn't runny good. They had it 4 times what they said it would take, changed the price twice and then paid to have it tuned or they wouldn't warranty the work. Took it out the day after I got it and it ran like shit, and had to call in my father to help me tune it on the lake. Waste of money, would never go back. Bennington comes with 10 year warranty and dealer also throw in 2 year addition extended warranty on the Yamaha Motor - Making it total of 5 year warranty on the motor. I searched for several months to find the exact boat that I wanted. My initial experience with Tim at Wilson Marine was pleasant. Very attentive and answered all of the questions that I had. I live 4 hours from their location and had to drive to the location twice. Once to deliver my trade in and once to pick up the boat that we purchased. Once we got the boat home, we discovered a crack in the gel coat by one of the rear cleats. I contacted Tim and sent pictures of the crack. It has now been more than TWO WEEKS and still no response regarding the warranty repair. I contacted a local Bayliner dealership who had an answer in 2 DAYS, not weeks. I have also emailed about the speedometer not working and again, no response. They have my money and now have become an after thought and pushed to the back burner. Tim asked me if my boat was running. In fact it is, but when you buy a brand new boat you would think the dealership you purchased it from would make it right immediately. In addition, Tim also told me that their dealership was the ONLY dealership in the Midwest that I could take my boat to have the gel coat repaired. This is in fact, per Bayliner, a bold faced lie. When I confronted Tim regarding all of the issues, he immediately became argumentative instead of apologetic for buying a brand new boat that ALREADY needs repairs. Yet again, they already have my money and service is apparently NOT a priority. I will NEVER purchase from the again. read more

Wilson Marine customers beware, I have not written to many reviews in my time and this will be the first negative review I have ever written. I took my boat to Wilson marine Brighton for service in Sept. 2020 they diagnosed the issue within a couple of weeks. The parts were ordered and were in within a couple of weeks after that ,so they said. Fast forward to the first of May 2021 and several phone calls the repairs were complete so they said. I picked up the boat put it in the water the next day and the boat did not run properly and I had to be assisted back to the dock. While taking the boat off the trailer I noticed they did not properly install the lower case and the rubber exhaust grommet was just hanging by the hose. With the grommet not in place they over tightened the bolts holding the two half's together and severely cracked the ABS plastic. When I returned the boat the next day I showed them the cracked housing and the rubber grommet hanging that I had taped on so not to lose it. The Wilson employee agreed that the work that was not of good quality. He told me he would take care of it and call me within a couple days. After waiting a week I called to see what was going on and kept being transferred  to Jeff's voicemail with no return calls. I the called and asked for Christine she told me she would check the status of the boat, She called me back within just a few minutes and told me the boat was ready to be picked up. By the way she is the only one I dealt with with any credibility. I told her that I was on my way to pick up the boat. When I arrived It was obvious there was something not right by the guys reaction behind the counter when I told him who I was. He sent someone to retrieve the boat and told me the boat would be brought to the front lot so I went out and waited for it. When he pulled up he unhitched from the tugger and immediately drove off no conversation what so ever. I walked around to the back of the boat and it looked worse than it did when I dropped it off. I went back inside to find out what was going on they did not want to discuss it inside and aske me to take it outside. We walked outside and now three guys showed up with a rehearsed story that they didn't cause the damage that it was like that when they received the boat which was not the case. After all the lying and con man acting BS they told me to go to the auto parts store and purchase some glue. So after paying over 2000.00 to get my boat running it's going to cost me a additional 950.00 to purchase the covers they destroyed. I'm only sharing my experience for a heads up to those of you looking to do business with this outfit. I would suggest taking a witness plenty of pictures and get everything in writing. For me I have been blessed and 950.00 is not going to make me or break me. And in the future when purchasing or servicing I will seek out a more reputable business. read more

During November 2017, my wife and I ordered a Harris Pontoon from Wilson Marine in Brighton MI. If not for our salesman, Stephen Paskett, I don't think we would've purchased the pontoon. We are first time boaters and Stephen was very patient with us from the first time we met all the way through the ordering process. Stephen was not one bit pushy, but kept us interested. Stephen was/is very professional, personable and understanding of our wants and needs. There's no doubt in my mind that in the end Stephen got us the best deal possible on our 2018 Harris. I brought in my boat to have the lower unit re-sealed. There was a little water getting into my lower unit, and they told my prop shaft seals needed to be replaced. they quoted me 475.00 THEN.... I get a call saying that they could not start the boat, and BOTH carbs needed to be rebuilt and the spark plugs replaced. They told me the total would be eleven hundred dollars!! as they were charging me an additional 465 for the carb work. I told them that I couldn't afford that. and not to do anything more. I brought it in for lower unit issue not the engine. (that motor ran great for 26 years) I didn't have a reason for them to suggest to rebuild carbs. SO...this past Saturday I picked up the boat. (again, they told me it would not run)... As soon as I got home, I hooked up my hose, and...THE BOAT STARTED RIGHT UP...AND RAN LIKE A TOP !! Yet, they told me that their tech couldn't start it. and it would cost an additional 475.00 ?? I bought a new 2019 Bennington from Wilson Marine because of their Wilcare promise--- RUN AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS! Wilcare is a joke and would only be helpful if customer service actually responded to it's customers. The first year I paid for my boat to be winterized I received it back with INCHES of water soaking the boat-- I was told by Wilson that my cover was not on the boat so my BRAND NEW Bennington was stored outside in the rain/snow for two weeks (2 seconds later I opened the back middle seat to show the delivery driver where the cover was the entire time).. Wilson  happened to send me the receipt from the winterization but little did they know it included my complaint with insults about the customer including a statement saying there was NO cover on the boat even though I had already proven (with witnesses) that the cover WAS on the boat---- extreme laziness! Fast forward to 2021, I sent multiple emails to multiple people asking where my battery was & requesting someone be present for spring commission given the sh*t show that happened with Wilson in 2020. I had to contact Wilson via multiple methods (email, phone, FB) to receive a response and finally had customer service contact me only to tell me that I'm not welcome at Wilson Marine again!!!! So much for Wilcare! Wilson Marine will steal your money, become IMPOSSIBLE to contact for an issues, BLAME THE CUSTOMER when issues do arise then KICK YOU TO THE CURB when the customer tries to remedy any issues. Let me start off by saying that three years ago we had an excellent experience with Wilson Marine in Commerce Township. We bought our boat from this location and traded in our old boat this year, our experience has been nothing but a disaster!!!! Our salesman Tom was very very knowledgeable helping us pick out a boat. Everything after that went downhill quickly. The financing person was disorganized and rude. Thankfully we got to close with another finance person that was very experienced and Pleasant. Our boat was supposed to be delivered to Orchard lake today and when I called to confirm this morning we were told that they thought we were supposed to pick the boat up. They all knew that we were supposed to have the boat delivered it was written very clearly on the paperwork. We had discussed it many times. My husband took the morning off work for this delivery and now he is going to have to take the whole day off as a vacation day. Unbelievable when you spend $30,000 that everything gets so screwed up! We will follow up and let you know if they offer anything to us for all of these troubles. read more
