Very disappointed with this office. MILITARY MEMBERS get a second opinion before going with this office for wisdom!!! I went to this office for a referral a few weeks ago. When I first arrived I asked if my insurance went through okay, as I like to always confirm. I was told everything went through okay. I then had the consult. I was referred by my orthodontist so I thought this office was the best choice. The doctor went through everything that was needed, then told me that I needed a 3D scan for "further evaluation" they told me this was not covered by insurance. When I went to get the scan i noticed that it was the same machine as the one I had done at my dentist. When I questioned it, I was told that it is the same machine but they have to change a setting. I asked if the change of the setting was the reason for the charge, and they said yes. At that point I was pretty annoyed. I then finished the consult and sat at the front to go over paperwork. I was quoted 3100 for the wisdom teeth to be pulled, and my copay would be 2400. THEY ARE NOT IN NETWORK WITH MILITARY INSURANCE! I was told that everything that day was covered except the 3D scan which was 247.00. I gave her my card, signed and left. A week later I got a call that she charged me only 24.70 instead of 247.00. I let her know I would call back when I had time as I was traveling. I then received a bill for 319.00 in the mail. They added on an evaluation of 139.00! I decided to call LOMPOC ORAL SURGERY. They got me set up for an appointment pretty quickly (TODAY). They went over the same treatment plan the morning of and confirmed the insurance before bringing me back for the teeth to be pulled. The charge for the whole procedure was $680.00. This included everything Wilson was quoting me! The 3D scan at this office was 125.00 at this office with no charge of an evaluation. I was called today by the staff for payment and to set up a time for surgery, and when I expressed that I already had the surgery done, and that I was very upset with their office, the lady became very rude. I let her know that they should know better that they are not in network for military members before trying to charge then 2500+. All she had to say is that she doesn't know what lompoc orals codes are. VERY DISSATISFIED with this office!!! read more

I have been here twice and each surgery went better than expected. This doctor knows his stuff big time! Of course, there are many variables (patient's; nutrition, health, care taken after surgery, etc.) involved outside of the control of any doctor. Had 4 wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Wilson and I was EXTREMELY anxious for it. I WAS TOLD BY MULTIPLE RECEPTIONISTS 3 DIFFERENT APPOINTMENT TIMES. Surgery day: after I took the calming pill, the office calls saying my appointment got pushed back an hour. I informed the reception I already took the pill at the time THEY TOLD ME, she laughed and said, "well, you'll be feeling that all day. Hahaha!" A reception called to follow up ending with, "if you have any questions, ask or call." I asked 2 questions and neither of them were answered. All-in-all: Surgeon, techs and financial people were great. TERRIBLE receptionists. Gave me 3 DIFFERENT appointment times, laughed at an anxious patient who (due to THEIR appointment miscalculations) took the calming pill an hour early AND did not answer my very simply stated questions. I was referred here so I came for an appointment to take care of a bump on my lip in November/December . It's currently February and my bump is still on my lip. No helpful information was given to me to cure it. Personally, I also didn't appreciate some information the oral surgeon gave me which I felt didn't coincide with the medical issue I presented, however that is a personal opinion. read more

Update: I was still under the influence (from the surgery) while writing my previous review, but I still wouldn't change a thing about it. 24hr after the surgery I had to stop taking the prescribed pain medication because my body couldn't handle it, resulting in me being very naseous and not being able to hold my yogurt and medication. I called and asked for advice and they said use Tyleno since I had already tried only taking half of the meds. l I ended up not taking any pain meds at all, and I did just fine! No pain, just uncomfortableness. read more

Dr. Wilson did an amazing job with my wisdom teeth removal. He made me feel comfortable because he took the time to explain the process and answer all my questions. The surgery went very well. The only issue was that I experienced a high amount of pain during the healing process. I couldn't manage my pain well and that bothered me because I always believed I had a high pain tolerance. One moment I could only tolerate cold liquid in my mouth, and the next it had to be warm. The pain medication I was prescribed wasn't helping much either. I made a follow up appointment to bring up my concerns and to re-fill my prescription. My mouth was piercing and throbbing in pain and I was losing my mind. Dr. Slaughter followed up with me and I brought up my concerns with him. He was dismissive with my theory for my pain. Okay, fair enough. I then explained to him how I was trying to manage my pain but it wasn't working. He again was dismissive and basically said what do you expect me to do. By the second time of him not really listening to me, and being unsympathetic to my pain, all while I am in pain during this entire appointment I started to silently cry because I couldn't handle the situation. He left me and I went out to the waiting room where I started to cry even more. An older woman even asked me if I was okay. It was such a painful and humiliating experience. I wish Dr. Slaughter was a little more patient with me because it made it seem like he really didn't care about my well being. I followed up later with Dr. Wilson to have him check on the healing process of my wisdom teeth removal and it healed very well. I definitely appreciated Dr. Wilson's kindness and thoroughness during and after my surgery. read more

I was referred here by my regular dentist for an extraction of a tooth that was causing problems. I asked them to remove my wisdom teeth at the same time since I was going to be there + go through the process already. They were kind and very considerate of me being nervous. They also were able to get me in for a consultation within a week and do the extractions the following week. Nice and fast. This is sometimes the type of thing you want to just get over with and I was able to do so quickly. I got all 4 wisdom teeth out last Thursday and I couldn't have asked for a more comforting and knowledgeable staff. The nurses are all so polite and friendly and Dr.Wilson is so patient and is there to give you the facts and options, he doesn't push you or rush you. A week later one side was still hurting quite a bit and I over worry so I called and they scheduled me to come in first thing the next morning and he took a look and reassured me everything looked great. Yes, I am a grown man and still to this day, hate going to the dentist. I had a bad experience during childhood and have never been the same. However, from the moment I stepped foot in the office in Arroyo Grande to meet Dr Slaughter to the moment I left the Santa Maria office after surgery, even knowing about my fear of dentists, the entire staff made me feel at ease and used extreme caution with me during my visit. I had 4 extractions and it's now 24 hours later and I have not one ounce of pain. The Dr even called me later in the evening after my surgery to check on me. So personal and caring and I can just tell you that I felt like I really mattered to them and that everything done was in my best interest and I want to thank them all for making this terrifying point in time so easy and for making me feel so comfortable. Dr Wilson fitted me in for an emergency molar extraction. His chairside manner, warm, caring with a great smile that melted all my anxiety. Since it was a emergency appointment late in the day, he wanted to make sure that I would be okay with having the molar extracted while awake. I have high anxiety but his calm and reassuring demeanor got me through a difficult extraction without anxiety medication or stress. Dr Wilson, also called me last night to make sure that I wasn't having any problems and or questions. He also let me know that I could call the office and that they would contact him, if something came up during the night. His staff called me this morning to remind me about rinsing with salt water and to check up on me. I highly recommend Dr Wilson. read more

Have met both Dr's and am impressed. Took my brother for wisdom teeth removal (at the age of 50!) and Dr. Slaughter was exceptional. After a thorough exam, we were given a treatment plan that explained clearly what we could expect, both in procedure and financially. I had a wonderful experience here. Everyone is extremely sweet and professional. I had previously had a consultation at a different oral surgeon that didn't go well. After working something out with my insurance I was thankfully referred to Dr Slaughter/Wilsons office where I had a consultation for treatment. I had recently had a full mouth x-ray at a different oral surgeons office so they requested I have them email it over. Turned out it wasn't a very good x-ray so they did one themselves at no cost to me! I had all 5 (yes 5) wisdom teeth removed a couple weeks later. The check in was easy, making a payment was easy and Dr. Wilson did a great job explaining everything and answering all my questions at my consultation and follow-up appointments. I went there last August 15, 2014 for all my wisdom teeth to be extracted (all four), I was anxious about it but during the surgery with the general anesthesia, I didn't feel a thing and I just woke up drugged but all good. I had all 4 wisdom teeth (1 partially impacted) extracted by Dr. Slaughter on 10/8/15 via IV sedation with local anesthesia. I put this off for several years because I was scared and anxious. Even though the recovery is not fun at all (as expected), the Dr. and his team made me feel at ease through the whole process. They really go the extra mile to ensure patient comfort. I was given valium to take prior to the procedure - it really calmed me down and made you 'not care' about what was to come. I don't remember a thing from the procedure (yay!) and did not experience any complications - no dry socket, no bruising, no nerve damage, and minimal swelling. Great staff, excellent surgical skills. I should have done this long ago! read more
