I go hiking and then check out reviews of local bakeries. It's what I do. I love morning glory muffins and have had them at quite a few places. Everyone seems to use pretty much the same recipe with some slight variations. The muffins I had here were weird. I don't know what that dominant spice they used is but it was really kind of awful. Weird is just the only word I can think of to describe it. And the muffin was not dense at all. It kind of fell apart when you bit into it. I took a "sour cherry" pastry home snd it was ok. The apricot scone was bleh. I think this place will be a skip in the future. read more

While visiting Kent yesterday my friend and I ate at Wilson's. The menu looked really good and the porch looked like a nice place to catch up, so we stayed. I'm sorry we did. The food we had was ok, but it may have been better if our orders were put in correctly and we had received the food as we had ordered it, which was with no changes to the menu items. The service on the other hand was atrocious and my friend and I were made to feel unwelcome and even humiliated. My friend and I both ordered the chicken panini. We both did so because the red sauce sounded so good. When we got our sandwiches there was no red sauce on them. I went to the woman who had taken our order and asked her about it. She said (aggressively) we had ordered them without red sauce. This was really strange, and wrong. Why would we do that? She offered to give us "sides" of red sauce. As she ordered them she rolled her eyes at the kitchen staff and said, "It's not for me!" The chef or cook rolled his eyes back at her and made a fuss. I was standing right there and felt deliberately humiliated by this woman to cover up her own mistake. There are far more gracious ways to handle a minor error one has made while taking an order. This person needs some training in customer service. I will not be back. read more

An adorable and bustling cafe in Kent! It was extremely busy on a Saturday morning in October, but fortunately the line to order at the counter moved quickly, and there was enough turnover that we were able to get seats without waiting too long. However, they were out of a lot of bakery items by noon, so I'd recommend getting there early on the weekends. I went for the Smoked salmon bagel, and I kid you not, it was a religious experience. By far, the best jalapeño cheddar bagel I've ever had. I don't know how they made it but angels most definitely had to be involved. Order it with the scallion cream cheese and pay the extra $0.50 for the capers, it's worth it. I don't live in the area, so I will pray to the food gods to present me with an opportunity to return & eat that sandwich again. read more

The spot is great and cute for breakfast or lunch. My family came here after a small hike by Kent Falls State Park and enjoyed Irvingfarm coffee and lunch. Outdoor seating available in the front and back of the cafe. Lunch was decent, very straightforward. I got the egg salad sandwich with chips and pickles. It was tasty and full of flavor. My partner got the turkey club, very enjoyable with a side of brussel sprouts. Had I known the brussel sprouts were going to be as charred as they were, I would've passed. As for the sandwiches, the bread is a bit over toasted for our liking as the crust was tough to chew. We finished the meal with a cheese Danish, which was the highlight of my visit. read more

I don't know who heads up the baking operations here. But the baked goods at Wilson's are legitimately world class. (Cafe offerings like salad, soup, and sandwiches are often good, too.) I was recently thinking about what a ridiculously privileged experience my family has had when it comes to laminated pastries. We have lived near, and indulged (too) frequently in, famous, good pastries for most of our lives. I think Wilson's can hold its own among them (e.g. the Boulud bakeries in NYC, Breads, Mille Feuille, Balthazar, Bien Cuit, Mah-Ze-Dahr). Little cakes and cookies have been excellent as well, and most bread loaves on offer are quite good. Bagels are good, not quite as beloved in our family as their NYC favorites. The focaccias are oily and fabulous. Most recently, we tried a chocolate mousse cake for a birthday. It's one of the best mousse cakes we've had in years. After years of frequenting this establishment, I feel comfortable saying that the high quality of the baking is extremely consistent even though the staff must come and go. There are tables outside in nice weather and in general, staff are very dog friendly and kind. We love this place and hope it keeps on keeping on! read more

In addition, forgot one of our meals. I understand you might be having a bad day.....but not your customers fault. Fortunately, a young man went the extra mile to make sure we were taken care of. Know that lunch options are offered with sides. On your first visit you may not know you will be charged extra for the sides. Wilson's is on the other side of House of Books (opposite JP Gifford), where an antique shop used to be. It is unrecognizable, the ceilings are very high and the ambiance is very woodsy. There's a large fireplace, and seating inside and outside. There are baked goods from macarons to savory scones available in the two cases by the register, but they have a kitchen as well. You do order at the register. My savory scone was delicious - great flavor, and not too crazy crumbly to cause a mess. I look forward to going back to try their breakfast all day! read more

This is a wonderful new addition to the restaurants and cafes available in Kent, CT. I have watched from the outside during the past two years as the renovation of this historic building has transformed the space. Walking into the cafe, the high ceilings are awesome and provide an airy but welcoming atmosphere. The coffee is great. I enjoyed a cappuccino that had beautiful frothy milk and a lovely rich body. The quality of the food is outstanding. We had bagel sandwiches and they were chock-full of ingredients. The bagels were light on the inside and generous with the spices and flavors. The mission of the cafe is laudable. I was surprised that it wasn't mentioned on the menu but on the website there is an explanation. When I asked, one of the waitstaff explained that the cafe is designed as a place for those in recovery to be able to work. It was started by High Watch Recovery Center, which has been in operation in Kent since the 1940s. Online one learns that alumni of High Watch are being employed to "gain valuable work experience and learn to live free of addiction while supported by other employees who have lived through and are conquering the same challenges." I can't wait to go back and enjoy more of the baked goods. The breads look fantastic. My hat off to the decision to open early (7 am) and stay open until 4. Some of the town's other establishments aren't so generous with their availability. read more

I thought this place was so cute! Last time I was in Kent this place was not here. There are not too many cafe food options in Kent. We ordered the turkey club panini and it was delicious. A little on the smaller side. The cafe is very cozy. I liked all the wood. There is not too much indoor seating. Just 2 tables that can fit about 2 couples each. And then there is a large couch with 2 side chairs with a table. Great stop for quick food if you're in the area. read more

My friend and I enjoyed our visit to Wilson's this past Sunday. It's a gorgeous café with high ceilings, a gas fireplace centerpiece, display cases with delicious baked treats, and pretty lighting. Two eggs, plenty of thick cut bacon, Arethusa cheese, and a toasty roll. Really nice breakfast! I also had a mocha latte which was good. I'd love a stronger coffee/espresso in it, but it was good.
