They have a horrible manager, usually one lane open, worst grocery store in Ithaca. Go to Wegmans, Walmart, Trader Joe's, Tops, or Target before you waste your money here. And the tomatoes and most other produce are spoiled and gross. read more

Great products and amazing prices. Some of their store brand products I prefer to the real thing, and the name brands they do have are cheaper than anywhere else. Store employees are always friendly and helpful. Sometimes produce is hit or miss so be sure to inspect it before you put it in the cart, but overall I prefer to buy all my staples here. Due to the smaller size of the store, it can get crowded at peak hours, so I always try to shop at off hours when I can. PS - if kombucha is your thing, they have an amazing selection of name brands at better prices than anywhere else in the area. read more

Apparently the person below me has never heard of an Aldi's before. Aldi's isn't your typical grocery store. They primarily stock their own brands, with occasional name brand deals. They have their own version of all the basics, but if you're looking for something specific, this is not the store for you. That being said, Aldi's is delightfully cheap, especially on produce. Use your eyes and common sense when buying fruits and vegetables here, sometimes they will put out stock that's not quite in it's prime, so don't buy the ones that look sad. I've never been disappointing with the quality of food purchased at Aldi's and some things are even better quality than the typical name brand stuff you'd get elsewhere (think chocolate). You have to bag your own groceries and you'll probably have to wait in a line to check out, but it's really economical. read more

bad customer service all the way through. cashiers are all in a big hurry and can't tolerate chit chat or dallying, partly because they're being tracked and counted on their speed. there's no phone number (would slow down the line), so if you think maybe you've left behind your expensive reusable box bags, you have to go all the way back into town. most of the produce is old. incredibly, if you return even canned goods, they throw it away instead of donate. in ithaca if you shop on a Saturday when the farmers market is running, it can take you longer to exit the parking lot than to shop. ALDIs does not care, neither does the town of ithaca. I like saving money as much as the next guy, but not if i have to get shtuped every time i shop. not worth it read more

Yeah the prices are low, but the customer service was unlike anything I've ever experienced before. The man did not say any words to me besides my total, and he scanned my merchandise faster than I thought was humanely possible. I wanted to bag my groceries into my reusable bags, but instead he threw them into the grocery cart and awkwardly didn't say anything. Although I understand our society is very fast paced, I feel like I was interacting with a robot instead of a human. In my 3 years of experience of working in customer service, I was always taught to combine friendliness with efficiency. Since we are moving in the direction of robots taking over customer service, I think we should enjoy each other's company while we can. read more

Good food, good prices, long lines but fast. However, it is not possible to contact the store directly (or indirectly). Last visit, employees were not wearing masks or gloves and some shoppers were oblivious. Most shoppers were not wearing masks (exception, Asian shoppers) and were less than conscious about keeping 6 feet apart. Aldi, you can do better (check out Greenstar's procedures). read more

Every time i go to Aldis the prices, food quality and selection are better than before. they now have more organic foods than ever before and thier brand "specail select" foods are amazing! Go here to get your main grocery shopping out of the way and then hit up wegmans or greenstar for the things they dont carry and you will save a ton of money! read more

We purchased a cooler for 25 dollars. We took the tags off so we could use it, not realizing the top compartment was torn. We stopped back a couple hours later to return the item and the store was closed. Our schedules dont permit daily visits. We came back the following weekend and the informed us that they put them on sale to get rid of them and offered us 10 dollars. We did not save the receipt but i declined the offer. So basically they lost our business over 15 dollars. Buyer beware! read more

Since they've upgraded the interior it's much easier to find items. The store is clean and well stocked. Prices are great and their house brands are consistently good quality. It's sometimes tough to find staff to help with a question but when you get one they're very helpful. I frequently shop there. read more

Aldi is the cheapest grocery store in town by a wide margin. It has just one brand of each thing, so you get in and out fast. For someone who eats to live rather than the reverse, it is essentially the perfect grocery store. However, if you want a better shopping experience, you can still get it. Just walk around Wegmans for half an hour, then head to Aldi. read more

Have been going to Aldi for years and I still love it. Staff is super friendly (except the older lady who seems to be a manager-grumpy) but anyplace is always going to have at least 1 person Having Celiacs means an expensive grocery bill normally for gluten free items but with their huge selection of GF- I save a lot of money. Buy a majority of our groceries here and then get what we can't find at Wegmans. Lowest prices around and super clean! read more

Aldi is certainly different, but if you cook and bake, you will be able to save money here. They carry some basic things, like flour and nuts and cheese and meat and you will save between $.50- 1.50 per item. That adds up. They also carry weird frozen foods, which I don't know anything about, and an isle full of variable specials like $30 vacuums and $9 orchids. I can usually save $30+ on a weeks grocery bill and pick up something fun every once in a while. They are a German company, and excel in certain areas like chocolate and preserved meats (and orchids). Their produce is a little iffy, but their avacados are the most likely to ripen before they rot in town. Always check the eggs. I happen to know they were carrying local apples at one point, bagged in their own brand bag, but that was years ago. read more

We've got an Aldi's on Long Island. Whenever I'm in that town it's worth my time to stop. The canned soups are made in the Campbell's soup factory with just a little different recipe and labeled for Aldi's. My son loves the Grilled Chicken and sausage gumbo. The cake mixes are made by Pillsbury and packaged for Aldi's. Stone Mill gravy pkgs delish! & only 35cents. Sometimes a good cheese selection. Clancys Honey BBQ Chips rock. I've even bght some of their canned veggies. Not bad at all. Yes, it's a no frills German Supermarket. Just bring a quarter (you do get it back) and your own bags. I've never really been happy about the produce but the pork is good. Now if only they'd carry organic milk.. read more

I've never been to any other Aldi except the one in Ithaca, but I think the Ithaca Aldi is great. The first review at the bottom is from someone who doesn't know what an Aldi's is (as another reviewer has pointed out). Aldi carries typical grocery items that are their own brand. Aldis was started in Germany so you'll often find german chocolates and cookies, among many other food items from Europe. They have a business model that is supposed to cut costs so that the customer sees the price difference. Their items sell for cheap because Aldi's staff don't waste time stocking traditional shelves (the first reviewer was observant enough to point out the shelves aren't really shelves), or waste time packing your bags (you do this yourself), among other business practices. This translates into savings that the customer sees in the prices of the items. Everything Aldi's does, down to how they manage the store floor and staff is intended to be streamlined and efficient, just research this and you'll find several articles. If you're looking for a fancy grocery store with LED screens flashing prices at you - this isn't your place. But if you want to save money without cutting quality, Aldi's is the place to be. Keep in mind this is a great place to go to get basic grocery items, if you need specialty items you probably won't find them here. Like another reviewer mentioned - you still have to be a smart consumer and think about what you're buying... i.e. produce should always been looked over before buying in ANY store.. We should have known what type of experience we were about to have when we found out we had to insert a quarter to unlock the shopping cart, which was chained up to all the others. The first thing we noticed in the store was almost all the brands are brands you've never heard of, and are of low quality. The "shelves" aren't shelves, but instead are carts on wheels...perfect for closing an operation down and leaving town in the middle of the night. The isles consisted of random items placed side by side which appeared to be whatever happened to be excess stock coming from who knows where. For example...right next to the cheese there were garden hoses. We tried to find a couple things so not to make the trip a complete waste of time. Once we got to the cashier to pay, we were told Aldi only accepts cash or debit....another sign of a fine business. If you'd like to find some weird, low quality brands you've never heard of and are in need of cheese and garden hoses, you'll love this place. read more
