If this restaurant were located for example in libertyville there would be a line out the door every night. Yes the food is that good. Service is another matter. The male bartender is very attentive and good, the waitresses could use a little tuning up. Their service does not match the quality of the meals that are served here. I ordered the cinnamon cranberry smash. It was fruity but not too sweet and seemed to have a bit of spice, maybe from the cinnamon stick. The short rib melt is a big sandwich. The meat was savory and full of flavor. There was a good amount of cheese and honey-ale house onions, which seemed to be caramelized. The au jus was tasty and thicker than most jus'. Owner went above and beyond for his guests to have a wonderful New Year's Eve. Food specials, at great prices. Decorations to the maximum. Party favors and balloons passed out at 10:30 PM. DJ including a champagne toast for New Year's plentiful. He was the host for the town of Antioch to show them a good time on New Year's Eve. He went above and beyond and we will return . It is very important to support local restaurants. This is one of them. This hidden gem is only year old, it was really nicely decorated and very well maintained. The bar area was ample. The bartender Heidi was very nice and welcoming and suggested we go upstairs and check out the outdoor area. It was a stunning roof top with nice comfortable furniture and a huge deck. My go to vodka lemonade was really good and the bloody Mary was just the right amount of spice. The braised short rib panini was really tasty and plenty for two people to share. The upgraded side salad was an ample portion to share but seemed to be missing something like cheese, carrots, croutons etc. I will definitely be back next time I am in the area! Food was hit and miss today , service was good. The good: the trinity corned beef sliders, chicken Caesar salad, and the appetizers: cheese curds and beignets, Just ok: signature burger Not great: the kids Mac and cheese was super spicy...the coffee was weak and/or not so fresh, the carrot cake to go (we've ordered it before and the server or kitchen? was kind enough to put the caramel sauce and whip cream in small cups with lids but today, they just poured it on top. By the time we got home, the whip cream was melted and the sauce was soaked into the part of the cake on the bottom. :( read more

Rivalry is usually a consistent choice for bar food with a few other slightly more interesting options on the menu. We have enjoyed it thus far, but lunch was a different story today. We always get a Bavarian pretzel, which is always good. I ordered it without salt and with an extra cheese instead of carmel. It came covered in salt and with the three main dipping sauces. I mentioned the two requests again when it arrived but told the server that I could just wipe it off. She said, "No, I'll get it fixed." I replied that it's easy to wipe off and that it was okay because we were in a hurry as we were headed to an appointment. She repeated, "No, I'll have it fixed' and took it against my wishes. (As in, she pulled the plate from my hand.) When it returned a few minutes later, it was clear that they had just wiped off the salt in the kitchen as the butter was mostly gone and the evidence of a few lingering crystals of salt remained. I would have much preferred to do this myself as I had indicated to the waitress. Despite the restaurant only having maybe 5 or 6 tables filled (at 12:30ish,) it seemed like the server couldn't handle it even with the bar tender helping her. I began to worry about time when it took an inordinate amount of time for our food to arrive. When it finally did come, the burger and steaks were lukewarm at best, the fries were cold, and the broccoli was so bitter I had to spit it out. It was a rather unappetizing meal. I was really frustrated that we had just paid a fair amount for cold, garbage food. I then had to go find our server to ask for the check as she ambled around with no urgency whatsoever for any of the tables she was serving. I overheard a partial convo at a nearby table that seemed to have issues as well. We were planning on coming in next Saturday with extended family, but we'll have to find somewhere else. Told waitress to make meals to go. We had to the theater down the street at 8pm. At 755 food came out plated. Told them again it had to be to go. They brought out a box and slopped the pie into the box. Wife still waiting on sandwich. 805 sandwich finally brought out. Luckily the theater allowed us to be seated after the first act had started. When I tried to reheat the pie for lunch the next day I was rather disappointed. The carrots were raw and there were potato skins in the meal. Welcome and needed addition to the restaurant desert that is the Round Lake Beach/Lindenhurst/Lake Villa/Antioch area. Although we opted to sit at the bar, we were happy to see that tables seemed to be adequately distanced for Covid precautions. (More on that below). Upstairs patio was still under construction. There are 9 TV screens downstairs. We enjoyed the retro 1970 & 80s soundtrack playing in the background. Full bar with wine and beer menus. Interesting food menu with some unique items not seen elsewhere like garlic lobster melt, salmon BLT, and spaetzle beef marsala. I had the butternut squash soup which was delicious and a tart cherry cider (also delicious). We also had the cheese curds offered as an appetizer which was good. Bartender was very friendly. Recognizing they just opened a couple weeks ago, there are still some minor things they need to work out. 1. Covid precautions. A mask is only effective if you aren't wearing it as a chin diaper. Bartenders (and others) need to keep them up over nose and mouth. A mask is NOT effective if you are wearing the equivalent of a window screen, like the one of the wait staff was wearing. Not a mask. Really. May we suggest you provide staff masks with your restaurant name on it? 2. QC on dishwashing. I received dirty silverware. Rivalry definitely has potential for a 4 star YELP rating! Recommend owners do some business Intel and check out Timothy O'Toole's Covid protocols & cleaning certification as well as their staff training in Lake Villa. I was here earlier today for a luncheon following a memorial service. We were upstairs in the private room. This place is super cute. Everyone loved the food. Stephanie our bartender was great. She was on top of everything. She kept our drinks filled and refilled. She was right there to clear plates as we finished eating. Outstanding customer service! I wish I lived closer. However, if you live nearby or are in the area definitely check this place out. If you are looking to host an event the upstairs room is great. You have your own private bar and two private bathrooms just for your party. They even have an elevator that takes you upstairs! I highly recommend this place. read more

First off, Kala S.'s service was amazing and the restaurant looks great. Lets move on to the food. I wish i took a picture of my Rivalry Jambalaya to compare on what's here. The portion is not worth $18.99. My daughter's Mac and cheese and fries was a bigger portion than mine. She went on to give me some of her Mac and cheese and placed it on my plate. The plate felt like it had a 1/4 cup of rice and a cup of the rest. Oh, and I heard you just got a new chef. Please reimagine this menu item. read more

Ordered giant pretzel appetizer. Hadn't arrived by the time we finished our meals, so we just cancelled at that point. Bummed because we love those.* 2. Ordered hamburger w three toppings, came w everything including cheese. Much confusion in trying to get it straight. Too much attention given by the waitress that she put the order in correctly and that they screwed it up in the kitchen. Not what the customer wants to hear. *Side note: Can we get over the Waiter/Waitress doesn't write down your order, does it by memory?! This place is so clean and fresh looking when you walk into! They have a rooftop but it was raining when we were there. The seasonal drinks are delicious especially the cucumber drink!
