Fancy doughnut--too bready, poor icing.
Monica A.

Overall, fair, but the dough here is a bit more on the bready side. Not really my preferred kind of doughnut. The icing on the fancy doughnut was underwhelming--it was like the kind of icing you sometimes find on the cheap supermarket cakes, with too much oil flavor/texture. The one thing I did enjoy and would recommend is the apple fritter. I'm always disappointed when there aren't any apple chunks in an apple fritter. What's the point with that?! But Winchell's apple fritter actually had multiple, little apple chunks. Still not my apple-y ideal, but decent for a quick bite in between ways. Probably will opt for a different doughnut stop in the future, though. Service was just ok, not super friendly.

Glazed doughnut

I had a simple glazed doughnut and it was great! Was not dry and just a solid basic doughnut. Much better than the Dunkin glazed doughnut, would definitely go again.

Bear claw, double chocolate old fashioned, Bavarian cream filled and sprinkle donut.

We love this donut spot!!!! The food and donuts are always fresh, and the employees are so kind and friendly. They've even offered to make certain donuts if they were out of a favorite you don't see that kind of service anywhere else. Always the same folks working which is a good sign or family owned. I've seen some negative reviews about fees, but there's clear signage that explains there's a $1 service charge when using a card. If you want to avoid it, just pay with cash easy fix.... I don't mind the fee and usually just bring cash for tips. They also go all out with decorations (love their Halloween setup!). The bear claw and old-fashioned donuts are the best I've ever had anywhere you can't compare them to grocery store donuts. If you go in the morning, your donuts might even still be warm like we've had a few times. I also love that it's still 24 hrs and can walk there. Highly recommend! There's a reason they've thrived sitting next to a competitor, most mornings there's always usuals and couples hanging out with their coffees and breakfast. Love this cozy neighborhood spot.

I wish we had Winchell's in Michigan. But if we did, I'd have to be fitted for a larger pair of pants. I got this monstrous everything bagel breakfast sandwich. I didn't realize they made bagels this large. The sandwich was stuffed with way more egg, bacon, and cheese and I've ever seen a breakfast sandwich. I am in pain now. Why did I eat the whole thing? And, how could I not eat the whole thing? The donuts here are also wonderful. There's a lightness to them that makes you think you're not eating a bunch of calories. Thank you, Winchell's. And, crucially, the coffee is robust and rich...a really nice medium roast. Those donuts and bagel sandwiches aren't going to wash themselves down my throat, are they? Second day in a row of eating too much after going here. Yep...I will be back tomorrow.

BEWARE OF FRAUDULENT CHARGES ON CC!!!!!! If you visit this location and use a credit or debit card, you may want to double check that the amount posted to your card is correct. We were at this location this past Saturday (12/16) to purchase a dozen of donuts. The total came to 20.46. After reviewing my CC charges, the charge from this establishment actually posted as 21.46 (1.00 more that what was shown on the receipt). It appears after the total, the individual that assisted me decided to add a 1.00 to my total, for whatever reason. What's even more disturbing is the extra 1.00 did NOT show on MY receipt anywhere, there is just a line that states "CHARGE1" but still shows the total as 20.46. (Attached photo of receipt) When I called this location to discuss why this occurred, no one could or would provide me with an answer. I'm aware it is only a 1.00, however, IF this location is trying to skim extra money off of every customer that uses a card, even if it's just a 1.00, it is extremely dishonest and unethical and is viewed as theft. I have contacted the corporate office and provided them with this information. I hope they follow through with an investigation to ensure that there isn't any 'funny' business going on at this location. But just in case there is, always REVIEW YOUR CC CHARGES from this establishment and really all establishments!! Happy Holidays!! :)

This is definitely what I want to see while enjoying my donut

Really unfortunate experience. My wife took our kids in for donuts after school and the place was decked out in Halloween stuff. Fine - to be expected. But some of the DIY decorations were pretty messed up (see the ghoul holding a baby and knife), and they bothered my younger kids quite a bit. My wife called later that evening and, in a non-Karen way, told them it freaked out our kids and suggested they remove some of the more extreme decorations. The response? "F*** you!" (click) Soooo, we're not going back. Donuts are good, but I just can't support businesses that treat people like that.

Hurts Donut Company - Thick, toothsome dough in a regular doughnut

We got a few of their raised and a giant fritter, so big it's the size of my head! All were super yummy, but I love the thick glaze on the fritter. The last time I stopped in, though, I specifically inquired which were freshest, and purchased those (two plain glazed and a chocolate cake Huskers doughnut), and they tasted good, but still not my favorite doughnut due to the density of the dough. The first time I stopped by, the doughnuts were all stale, and the vanilla-glazed was super stale; you can see how the icing has broken in the picture, it's been sitting out so long. The regular doughnuts and the cake doughnuts were way too close texturally due to the staleness of the dough, and the plain doughnuts' dough consistency, which is thicker than normal at Hurts. You can see in the picture where the doughnuts are cut and stacked together how similar the consistency is between cake and regular. But the flavor was where it was lacking: parched, dry, crumbly (the regular doughnuts), and stale, flagging flavor in the cake doughnuts. The toppings, I will say, were still good (thanks to the preservative power of sugar!), but the doughnut's kind of the bread and butter of a doughnut place, no? Anyway, they all went into the trash. :(( The second time I went, having asked about fresh ones, the flavor was good and the texture way better. But the density of the dough at Hurts is still a bit too thick and toothsome for my preference. I would go here again, and order with caution: better inventory control needs to be established to prevent the kind of experience I had the first time. The ambiance here is really nice, though, and there is ample seating for enjoying treats together. Definitely unique in the doughnut world, and thanks for it! Also, the employees have all been super friendly. Last time, Marcellus helped us, and his good humor and upbeat attitude were so appreciated!

I recommend trying everything, there's not one thing over that I'd suggest. The scones are huge, they're moist, they're flavorful, and there are so many great flavors to try. The lemon bar is divine! The decorated shortbread cookies are favorites for Christmas and Valentine's Day. The little rainbow cake slices are perfect for birthdays. I've yet to taste it, but got Nutella hand pies for valentines treats! The cinnamon rolls are heavenly, the cream cheese frosting is lovely. They had a pistachio roll that looked amazing today, so I'll have to come back to try that. This location gets a little difficult with parking, so you may have to park a block or so away if it's a busy time (mornings and weekends). There's always many different treats available but the earlier you get there, the more there are. There's usually a line of a few people but it goes quickly. It was so good and I can't wait to come back for more!

Pettit's Pastry is an Omaha staple and it's super easy to see why!…read more They have all the classic donuts, and don't over complicate them by adding a Hershey bar, Boo Berry cereal pieces, or any other crazy toppings you see at a few donut spots around town. Just plain and simple (and good!) donuts. We have been to Pettit's a lot over the years obviously, but I never thought to review them until now, on our last visit. The interior is simple, just like classic bakeries from my childhood. You can smell the baking donuts and treats and it brings you right back to those memories. Katie was the attendant behind the glass case on our last visit and she was super nice and took care of us even though we didn't know exactly what we wanted when we came in. It was close to closing time when we decided to pop in, so I did have some concerns about freshness. But that was no issue! They were all still super fresh and delicious. We got about 8 donuts and rolls and each and every one was fabulous. Their classic cake donuts are my favorite, with the white, chocolate, or maple frosting. They remind me of the little donuts you'd get after church with your parents, when they serve coffee and donuts in the parish center - LOL! The filled/long John donuts are my husband's favorite, and they are also super tasty. The white fluff that Pettit's uses in those is heavenly. Super sweet but not cloying so much that you couldn't finish one. From the beginning, the staff was incredibly helpful and creative. We had a pretty ambitious idea--a 3D cake shaped like a Blanton's Bourbon bottle--and they were completely on board. The attention to detail was amazing. They even recreated the iconic horse topper, and the finished product looked so real the retiree actually thought it was an actual bottle at first. They also helped us select from a wide variety of cake flavors and cupcakes. The main cake was the retiree's favorite flavor, and we added an assortment of cupcakes so guests could try different options. Every single one was delicious--some of the best cupcakes I've ever had, and a lot of guests were asking where they came from. One of the biggest lifesavers: they delivered the cake to The Drover and made sure it was safely stored in a fridge for us. We were all tied up with work and couldn't get there in person, so that extra step meant a lot. If you're looking for a cake that's both a showstopper and genuinely delicious, I can't recommend Sugared Ledge enough. Their talent and service really made the event feel special.
