What a dissapointment. Donuts are over fried, greasy, and exceptionally sweet. Ordered an old fashioned that tasted more like a maple long john than a traditional cake donut. We ordered a couple of coffees, as well. The hot coffee tasted heavily watered down while the iced coffee was 60% ice and 30% cream. Just a hint of coffee in there. So if you want to get a donut at any time of the day you can get one here. They have a wide variety of flavors and such and they are pretty good. The selection stays pretty good all day. There are some times were they have been pretty picked over (Sunday mornings because people take them to church) but they are inconsistent. Sometimes they are well baked with a nice crunch that is really yummy on a donut but then sometimes they are all doughy and gross. I've gagged on the doughy taste but I guess if you like that it's good I just wish you'd know that before you went in. You can get a big cup of coffee for really cheap (according to my husband anyways I'm not a coffee drinker) and hey you've got donuts. Working in customer service can get tough but no matter what you should never be rude to a customer because you are having a bad especially if they are super nice to you. I will never step foot in there again. Which sucks because there doughnuts are actually pretty good. Alright, so maybe I'm biased because this place is really close to my office, but for a quick pop in to grab a coffee (iced or hot) and something with way more sugar than you probably need but picks you up after the receptionist lost your activity log AGAIN.....it's a good place. Polite staff, sometimes easily distracted, but I'm ADHD so no judging. Decent coffee, really tasty Chillas, and best of all, they have a special EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK so you can get your caffeine buzz plus a little lunch for 5 bucks or less usually. Winchell's is that place you go when there are no other options whatsoever for a donut. It's open 24 hours, the prices are reasonable, the donuts are kind of stale, but you are coming off of being drunk and don't care. This particular location seems to be cleaner than the one on Monaco and Evans (I saw a roach on their donuts once and haven't been back) there are no bugs on anything, and the staff is kind of rude. The person that was working there each time was on the phone and I seemed more like a distraction than anything. If you have to go, then I guess it's OK. If you catch them fresh, these are the best Winchell's donuts I have found. The cinnamon rolls are great, as are the french donuts and the buttermilk donuts. Of course, this is not the healthiest breakfast food, but damn the donuts are good and sometimes you just have to give in, drop the will power and enjoy. There are not many doughnut shops open late by me so when I need a good doughnut I like coming here! The employees are always nice. The place is always clean and presentable at anytime of the day or night. Display of the drinks and doughnuts are very nice and they always are fully stocked! I have tried other Winchell's doughnuts (like the one on federal. Don't ever go to this one! GROSS!) and this place has it together! Their doughnuts are fresh and always good! Horrible customer service. The person serving donuts did not speak English, ok fine, but couldn't take directions in Spanish either. I asked for 2 dozen donuts. First dozen I asked for mixed but no filling donuts. Cashier translated that to Spanish for the guy. Guess what. Over half were filled. I said to myself. Ok. No big deal maybe he couldn't tell. The next dozen I asked for only chocolate frosted and glazed. Lady translated. Guess what? He tried to give me another whole box of mixed. When he handed them to me he was like "ok". The lady said glazed and chocolate only. He again looked at me and again said "ok". He was waving the box at me like take it. I told him "No. I asked for chocolate and glazed" He reluctantly put those back and got me chocolate and glazed. Everyone of those had finger holes where he squeezed the crap out of them. My husband and I have been frequent customers of this local Winchell's. We will not return again after our most recent visit this past Saturday (10/4). Upon returning home with our donuts, there were human hairs in 2 of our donuts. This establishment is not the cleanest, but we have not previously had an issue with the actual food. Some days their donuts are quite good but like others have said, they're often really doughy. And absolutely terrible front server people. They can't even give me the proper donuts I ask for and rush you when you're the only one in the store. The store itself doesn't even look like it's cared for very well.
