Switched my service to Starlink and I'm blown away how much better it is. Also, beware when you cancel your service with Winchester Wireless they will not pro rate your refund. You have to prepay and there is no refund. Also for them to pick up their leased equipment costs $50. Apparently they are losing a lot of customers to Starlink. read more

I've had service with Winchester Wireless since 2011, and they keep improving their service and capabilites. They are a small business that is very involved in the local community. I gave Winchester Wireless 5 stars, and I usually do not give a full 5 stars in a review. They have been one of the best companies overall I've done business with. As far as the internet service and speeds if you live in a rural area there isn't any other company in the Winchester Wireless service area that is going to be able to give you better internet speeds and customer service. The overall reliability and the consistency of the speeds depends on your location and if you can get a direct line of sight to the towers. I had a 2.4GHz antenna (non direct line of sight) and had a lot of ups and downs due to heavy trees. I worked closely with Dave the owner of Winchester Wireless and decided to build a tower to get me over the trees to get direct line of sight to fix my reliability issue. I now see a consistent 30-50mbps download and 10-15mbps upload speed. Not everyone is able to build a tower which is why they are constantly researching and testing new technologies to get the best internet service as possible to their customers. The owner Dave and his team have been very professional and easy to work with. I've had great response times and interaction when it comes to customer service on getting issues resolved. The owner Dave can come across direct at times, but if you talk it through with him he will go above and beyond to get it worked out for you along with the rest of this team. read more

I had Winchester Wireless for about 3 years. Since their initial install (in which they were a no show for the first scheduled appointment) they have been out about 15-20 times to fix my internet. Now, I paid $150 for "up to 50 Mbps" per their web site where they also state they do not guarantee any speeds. It is all best efforts. If you pay for 50 Mbps and get 3, then it sucks to be you. If you don't like the speed, you can pay $110 for 10 Mbps or $80 for 6. That's quite a drop in speed for the price. The reasoning is they know no one wants 10 for $100 so you are forced to pay $150 and hope to god it works out. Now the prices change if you have broadband available, so if you don't have Fios or Comcast available, then you get the gauged price. For the vast majority of my time with this company, I have gotten about 10 Mbps with frequent daily drops in service. How is charging more for people in areas without internet legal? I wonder how the FCC feels about it. Now to the first four service calls. After missing the first scheduled repair, their team made all the rest on time that was spread across the next eight months or so. Their team was always friendly and they stay up on my roof adjusting the antenna trying to get me the best signal. Each time they have been here, they had switched my antenna back and forth between 2.4 and 5 GHz. Neither sufficed and my internet would still drop and the speeds were bad. I work a government contract where I need VPN access so this is an incredible hindrance. After having non-stop issues and becoming frustrated, I left my first review on this company after about 18 months. The company's owner emailed me within an hour claiming to not know of any issues I've ever had. I found him rude and combative in all his emails. He inundated me with emails, first telling me he would only fix my internet if I removed my negative review (which I pointed out is blackmail). He sent so many aggressive emails blaming me for having bad network equipment and sending data usage from previous months, I had to ask him to stop as I felt it was harassment and would delete all emails without reading them. He then stated he would come out to fix it after the blackmail comment. I have spent nearly $2000 on horrific internet and he truly couldn't care less if I was being screwed over or not. The only thing he cared about was the review. I truly believe he does not care about his customers, only getting paid. True to his word, the owner did show up as planned. He was nice at the door and I told him I would show him how to access the roof. He stated that was ok because he knew it wasn't their end he wouldn't need it. Cut to an hour later, I had 4 more employees here on the roof installing yet another antenna. They admitted they couldn't get past 15 Mbps at best and both 2.4 and 5 GHz were problematic here so they had to install another antenna running on an uncommon frequency. The funniest moment was when their team was done and had told me they couldn't provide me the speeds I paid for, he asked me if I wanted a business account because I have a number of servers. I asked why and he said for better service. I replied you can't come close to giving me what I pay for and you want more? He looked at me, realized the stupidity of his question, and left. My terrible internet went on for another year and a half. It was constantly dropping, I would email, and I would be told it was my fault or it never happened. I could plug directly into their equipment, bypassing my home router, and have no signal. This is emphatic proof they were down but they would reply back they saw nothing and I was the bad person. They would make every attempt to make me think it wasn't them. Just admit it and I'd be happier. They shut my internet off once and told me my card was no longer on record. When I logged on, there was my card. The constant lies, and catching them in them, was just too much. My email is full of hate mail from the owner, responding to me calling them out on said lies. The same attitude can be seen on his reviews online and he blasts people for negative reviews. The last year of service, the drops were pretty regular and I just tethered to my cell phone all day because it was reliable. In the end, I ended up switching to Wave2Net and have consistently better signal and speeds for half the cost (getting about 25 Mbps download for $85 a month). I did have issues at first, but amazingly, the company acknowledged they were at fault and left my ticket open for a month, even after it was fixed until a proper resolution was determined. Winchester Wireless just would have told me to F off. When I heard they were running more Comcast lines into the country (including my area this year, hurray), I laughed at knowing their customer base was shrinking. I would never, ever, recommend this company to anyone. Get a Verizon hotspot first, or try Wave2Net. read more

Receiving contradicting reasoning for unreliable service from multiple employees. And lastly being a customer for 5 years and being treated horribly on numerous occasions by the owner. I canceled! Their service has been very good and the only time we have had a problem is when mother nature goes crazy. Even then service was restored in a timely manner. Honestly, one star is too many. I am beyond frustrated and disappointed with this company. I was already frustrated enough that I had to give up our high speed internet when we moved to Northern Berryville and were no longer covered by Comcast. But I had heard decent things about this company, so I gave them a call. We were put on a 2-month waitlist (after the company "forgot" to call me back after my first attempt, because I "fell off their radar". (I understand Covid has created an influx of connectivity needs, so I can't completely fault this company for the long wait). Desperate for internet, I agreed to a November 16th site visit and internet setup. November 16th came, and I had not received a confirmation phone call as I'd been told I would, but I took off work to ensure I was here during the 9-12 window. At 12:10 I called because no one was here. They were running behind and would hopefully get to me by 5:00. Well, around 4:00 they called to reschedule to the 20th. Irritated, I agreed. The 20th (today) came, and I again took off work to be here between the 1-5 window. At 4:30 I called because I hadn't heard from anyone. They were "running late" but on the way. At 5:45, I finally got the call that they would yet again have to reschedule. Are you kidding me? How does this company get any customers? I fall off of your radar in September, I practically have to beg you to come do a site visit, you reschedule once, you reschedule twice, and you expect me to still be grateful that you want to set up internet for me? No thank you. You've wasted enough of my time. I would never ever recommend this company. Stay far far far away from Winchester Wireless. I only had Winchester Wireless for 28 days and the first week was ok, then the service degraded to borderline unusable at times. I was paying 239$/month for the best they had, up to 100Mbs, but barely getting 3-10 Mbs toward the end. I decided to cancel and requested the 30 day money back guarantee. They assured me that they will return all my 647$ that I paid for the installation and service in these 28 days, but they are not returning my emails and the money were not returned 10 days later after they picked up their equipment. read more

As a quick forward my family has had this provider for 7 yeaars now and the problems have been constant. To start we began with the basic "LiteByte" package for $45 for 1.5 mbs down and 768 kbs up. After that failed to even preform we upgraded to the "LevelUp" package for double up and down for $65. Now as a university student home for the summer, I work during the days and the nights are when I am able to catch up on my summer homework from school. The issue being that my summer work is online and even with all other devices off (yes that includes gaming devices, other PCs in the house and my cellphone) I am only getting 1.0 Mbs upload and 70 Kbs (Kilobytes a second, yes .07 Mbs). This has caused my work to be lost several times now due to the internet crashing. The worst part of it all is that they will "throttle" you meaning if you complain or are within the 30 day trial period your internet is very good, almost above what you paid for. However this goes away and you are left paying them hundreds of dollars a year for speeds worse then HughesNet and customer service worse then Comcast. As well, it seems like the Facebook group as well as other review sites that the owner Mr. Williamson is admin of are dictatorial in view as only good reviews stay up while bad ones are shouted down and deleted. I sincerly hopes this doesnt happen to this one here on Yelp. During the time I lived in the Winchester, VA area I've had three internet providers. The first was Wave2Net who provided great service for the first two years, then went quickly downhill to barely any customer service. The second was HughesNet, which has limits on usage and is quite expensive. The last and current is Winchester Wireless. I wish I had signed up with them first. Although there are occasional outages, they are short. Customer Service is great. There are no limits on usage. Their prices are competitive for the area. During an electric storm, my modem was fried. The owner took back the old one, programmed a new one and had it ready the next day. Not bad at all. I think anyone moving to the area would be very pleased with this company. read more

Started contacting them over a year ago for a site survey. Every time I contacted them, they said they'd call back when they got an antenna pointed my way but I had to call them because they never followed up. Every time, the antenna build was delayed, or they had to work on another one. They finally came out to do a survey after 7 months of putting up said antenna, by walking around on my roof and holding up a dish by hand towards where they THOUGHT their tower was 12 miles away. They didn't even know the bearing and never found it, wasting a day of my time. Said they forgot to point a panel my way. (There is software for this so they shouldn't have to guess). Haven't heard from them since, despite 3 more tries. A year of trying is enough. read more

After having poor service with ughsNet for 10 years, I finally switched to WW. They are much more inexpensive and I have excellent coverage 27/7. I purchased my remote mountain top home in late 2017. When I did so I thought for sure I would never have the internet at home again. Cell service is spotty and I wasn't about to deal with the high cost and low data provided by satellite. I was wrong. In steps Winchester Wireless. What a great company to do business with. I can enjoy Netflix from my remote mountain home on snow, rainy and yes even freezing fog filled days. Any hiccup to the service has always been promptly restored by the fantastic customer service team. Speaking of what a great bunch of guys. We have subscribed to Winchester Wireless for 8 - 9 years. We lived in Back Creek District for the first years and moved into the Winchester area in 2012. Whether living in or out of the city, our service has been good. During the move, they spent extra time placing wires to our liking.
