I believe that Winco is the best supermarket in Fresno hands down. FoodsCo could take some serious lessons from this place, primarily in the layout and design department. But everyone could take some notes on their prices, which seem consistently lower than any other options. Perhaps this is due to having more choices, a nice bulk section, etc. Their bakery appears to be an actual bakery, and they have a wide selection of fresh-baked items, including some of the better bagels you'll find. My only complaint is that it's necessarily a bit of a warehouse shopping experience; you have no option of a hand-basket, and you cannot expect to zip in and out. read more

i have a family of 4 and a newborn. we spend no more then $90 every 2 weeks on groceries here... now go to save mart? thats at least $180+ worth of food every 2 weeks. and yeah the produce could be better, you just have to dig around a bit, you'll find the good stuff towards the back usually. i only give them 4 stars because they have literally 30 registers, but only like to have 5-6 open at a time. the lines get ridiculously long, and everyone who shops here fills at least one cart, and when you bag your own stuff, people are slow as hell. suggestion to Winco: open all registers from the first of the month untill the 10th at least... i have nothing against EBT users (i used to be one as well), but thats when they get filled, and 80% of fresno uses it. read more

My absolute favorite grocery store, probably here 3 to 4 times a week picking up various items for dinner, sweets, etc. The store is very roomy, well-lit, very clean, and the staff is helpful and friendly. The produce, bulk, bakery, and deli are always fresh and presentable. You're never waiting in line more than 5 minutes tops. They always have plenty of checkstands open no matter how late or early it is. The store is very affordable and they have a great selection. I don't shop at any other grocery store. read more

Great prices, great produce and bulk bin selection. Busy store, lots of people shopping. Just watch your purse. Bring one that zips up and don't leave it in your cart. I had two teenage girls casing me while used my grocery list on phone to shop. I tossed it in my purse (on my shoulder) and a girl came up behind me, her friend to my left. It has the cheapest groceries in the central valley, but a bit too big for my liking. Its always very crowded and the lines for paying is long. But they do have a huge selection of meat and vege, and other essential groceries. read more

I, specifically, went to this grocery store because I knew they carried bulk items to create my own kind of trail mix. I know all grocery stores stock items that can create these items, but not in bulk, but, most of all, not unsalted. I like that they stocked quite a few bulk unsalted items for my mix. I did not like that the stock person felt that they needed to cut in front of my to re-stock items. I understand that they need to re-stock items, but do they really need to be rude and cut in front of me and not say excuse me? Also, this grocery store does not stock the sort of bottled water that I like, so I will only be a patron for my trail mix ingredients. read more

WinCo is my favorite store. They have a wide selection of everything and the prices beat everyone else. They gave a great selection of organic produce and a lot of gluten free options as well. The staff, however, is what makes this store special. They are all friendly. They wave and say hi whenever I go in to the store and many of the staff will ask about my children and comment as to how big they've gotten. Feels like a family I love this store!!! read more

I can get everything I need at good prices. They have a fair amount of non gmo and organic selections. Their bulk foods are amazing in variety. Early the better to shop. It can get very busy. We've been to this Winco and other WinCo's before and we've never been both carded for Alcohol before. We're both way over 21 and had our son with us. The Cashier Sandra G. stated I need to see both I.D.'s and I asked is this WinCo's policy or your own policy and she said it's up to her discretion and I think that upset me more because if it's not WinCo's Policy, I don't want to abide by it. You're making us look like irresponsible people who buys alcohol for underage kids. She stated that she had to check both ID because she as the cashier would be held responsible if one of us were underage and got into a wreck. I disagree because the one who is 21 and buying the alcohol IS the one who is responsible because the 21 year old is the one providing the underage alcohol. YOU as the cashier can not control what people do. After they buy the alcohol it is out of your AS THE CASHIER'S control. She stated that there was a grey hound accident with the underage girls and if she were to sell alcohol without both ID's it would be her fault. NO, it wouldn't because you as a cashier, how would you know if someone buys alcohol and their underage friends are waiting in the car. Now, since you as the cashier sold the alcohol and the 21 year old gives it to their friends in the car, NOW are you still responsible?? Exactly, you're not because it's the one who is 21 and buys the alcohol's responsibility. You're job as the cashier is to verify the ID of whoever is buying alcohol. I explained to her that it can be inconvenient if my husband didn't have is ID on him because now, what? You won't let me buy the alcohol even though I'm paying and I have my ID. She didn't understand how inconvenient that can be. She just kept saying it would be her responsibility, and I told her NO, it wouldn't. Your job is to be a cashier, check the ID of the person who is buying alcohol, let them pay and let them go. Nothing more, nothing less. And at the end she told me I'm just doing my job. You're job is not to be held responsible other people's actions. Your Job is to clock on let customer pay for their stuff and clock off. I used to shop at Savemart but prices were rather high so I switched to Walmart to save money but got frustrated because often they would be out of staple items that I needed. Then someone told me about Winco. It's a little further away but definately worth the drive. Compared to Walmart grocery outlet I found Winco to be better stocked with a greater variety of brands/items, the aisles well labeled, wide & easy to navigate (nice considering how big it is) & prices/sales prices (including store by store comparisons) clearly labelled. The staff is friendly as well. Best of all I found it to be way less expensive than Walmart. Some prices were the same but most everything I purchased was far less expensive. eg: The Stouffers Classics frozen dinners I like: $2.50 at Walmart, only $1.88 at Winco (reg. price) I plan to do all my future grocery shopping at Winco from now on. Last year, I was accused of stealing prepaid & pre-ordered hot food for a graduation party from WinCo by a cashier. The order was placed 1 week prior to pick up. I also provided the receipt but the cashier called management accusing me of stealing the order of hot food. As if it wasn't humiliating enough, the manager held me up for quite a while to validate my payment as well. I'd filed a complaint to WinCo customer service and all they had to say was: "Frances, Goodness, I'm sorry to hear about this, that would be embarrassing. I am going to forward this on to the store manager so we can work out some type of system, so this doesn't happen again. I hope you will reconsider shopping with us in the future. Cathy D. But due to the convenience of the location, my 3 sisters out ruled me in going to WinCo vs. FoodMaxx (My favorite grocery store) on 7/3/16. On the evening of July 3, 2016, Lizette (cashier), refused to allow my sisters and me to put our groceries on the conveyor belt. We were told that she had to fully ring up the customer in front of us before we can start putting our groceries on the belt. This was at approximately 11:30 pm. There were few customers in the grocery store at this time. We were then assisted by another cashier, Debbie. Upon check out, I looked forward and another customer had ALL of their groceries on the conveyor belt while Lizette was ringing up another customer. I'd gone over to Lizette after I was rung up and said I would be filing a complaint on her and she said "Go ahead, we have cameras". Insinuating I'd done something wrong.?! Lizette continued to bad mouth us to customers and so one of my sisters spoke with Gabriel, the manager, and all he said was he'd look at the surveillance and assured that he'd get back to us. It is now almost 2 weeks later and it's been crickets chirping on my end. There were 4 of us adults along with my 4 year old niece shopping for groceries for our 4th of July bbq. Debbie, who rang us up, ID'd 4/5 of us for purchasing 2 bottles of wine. My sister purchased her groceries on a completely separate transaction and was also ID'd for the 2 bottles of wine that I paid for. To top this wonderful shopping experience off, there was a coupon hanging on the bottle of wine. Bettie, who'd already addressed her coupon skills, was rude about the "expired coupon" on the bottle of wine. How the heck is that my problem? I didn't put the coupon on the bottle of wine. Whatever the case is, RUDE, RUDE, RUDE and POOR, POOR, POOR Customer Service! RACIAL DISCRIMINATION IS WHAT THIS EXPERIENCE SPELLS OUT. In my 36 years of life, I had never heard of or had been told that I was not allowed to put my groceries on the conveyor belt until the customer before me was completely checked out, and I had never been asked for ID for another person's purchase of the alcohol until this day. My boyfriend and I have gone to this WinCo many times and have had no problems whatsoever. However today he and I went to pick up some snacks for me and for him he wanted some wine and angry orchard for himself at home. However I'm 20 years old and he is 21. I forgot that I couldn't be present while he purchased his booze. So we make it to a register and start waiting in line. This small latina woman stares at me multiple times with a nasty look on her face while we were waiting in line. By the time we got to the register and she scanned our stuff she rudely asks for both of us to show ID. I tell her upfront that I'm 20, so she stares at me like I'm disgusting and roughly takes away the booze like she was taking it away from a teenager being naughty. My boyfriend and I are from the bay area so we do look a bit different, especially since I dress goth, but of all the rude and unprofessional reactions to the way I dress this has to take the cake. I wear all black and do dark makeup, I get it. That gives you no excuse to treat me and my boyfriend like we're some sort of drug addicts. read more

So why is it that when items are placed in the discount carts, they're not honored? Its not the customer's fault that the workers can't put the items in the proper shelves, let alone in the correct place. Even when a manager was called out onto the floor, she acts as if the customer is not there and just totally ignores them, then tells the workers to take the cart to the back!! I think Win Co is the worst store I have shopped in. I was thinking while shopping how rude the employees were. Then when we got to the check out it got worse. I'm 72 and my daughter is 52 she is handy cap so I waited until a new check out opened because I new we would be slow. From the very start the cashier named Jason,starting complaining about how slow my daughter was. She isn't able to bag her own things she has to wait for me. He then rang my things. All the stuff was put on the same bags side so the other side was still open. Jason started bulling my daughter about how slow she was. after I got her things bagged he started on me about how slow I was to other customers. He is the worst bully and the rudest person I have ever seen working in public. If WinCo has a problem with handicap they should have a handicap checkor post no handicap, it should be better then being bullied .We won't go back. Walmart is fine helping us. read more

as a former employee I have seen the deli department open pre-package beef ,poultry, and pork products all with the same knife. even if the customer asked specifically if the slicer could be wiped down to keep it kosher, which they would do, then laugh as the customer walked away stating," I used the same knife and didn't clean it!" read more

I have been shopping at this specific WinCo for years. I live in the mountains, sixty miles away, and this is the nearest place for groceries. That said, in my years shopping there I have almost always used checks for payment, no problem. Even for the past two and a half years, when my address changed and, in following proper protocol with the DMV, my new address was written on the back of my license, and matches my checks. Yesterday I went to this WinCo, prepared to make a large purchase, and my check was rejected. At first the cashier just called the manager over to ask about it because my address was written on the back of my license. The manager didn't want to accept my check, for the same reason, and I told her I had paid this way with this same ID for the past two years. Then she asked where my town was and I told her it is near the Sequoias, about 60 miles away. She then said they won't accept checks from out of the city limits. Despite having a card I could pay with I was furious, this had never been a problem at this same WinCo before, so I knew it was a false statement. I do not recommend this store anymore. read more
