My relatives ordered food for a memorial reception on Saturday 6/27. The items purchased were birria, carne asada, rice and beans. The birria was in big chunks, not shredded as requested and lacked lots of flavor and the carne asada was dry and unseasoned. Both meats were full of fatty pieces. It was a huge let down for the amount of money paid for the food. The only reason there is one star is so I can leave this review. Beware, the catering from here is not as good as the deli counter! 10/12/24 Trying something different! Ordered a ham breakfast burrito, breakfast for tomorrow, and lunch for today: shrimp ceviche, , tortilla chips and shredded chicken plate. Paid for it on Uber and waited until it would be ready and went to pick it up. Arrived! Really LARGE store with tons of Great goods and many different "stations" to check out. I went to the "Guacamole" station and the worker was kind. Asked where I pick up Uber orders and she directed me to the Taqueria down the way. Got there and greeted by kind worker. Let her know of order and she got it and handed it over! Breakfast burrito looks Great for tomorrow! Lunchtime! All split. Shrimp ceviche was fresh & Delicious! It's a lot in 1 order. Leftovers! Shredded chicken plate was Really Great! Tender chicken with a nice spicy kick. Tasty refried beans and rice. It can't with flour tortillas and that fresh & good! Chips were Great. I was driving by and remembered that Vallarta had a food court so I rushed over to grab something! Most of my review will be on the food, but I just wanted to gush about how NICE this store looks. Literally everything is faced; it's so picture perfect. Tops of the shelves are organized, everything is clean, and the store itself is super well-stocked. Produce is fresh and I honestly just walked around for a bit to admire how put-together this store was. I remember coming here as a kid but it looks like they updated it. The store is so modern and bright! Okay, now for the food. I love how great the variety is here! You can get actual food, dessert, agua frescas, smoothies, pre-packaged meals, etc. My quesadilla was a pretty solid 4. Red sauce & green sauce weren't very spicy. The rice, beans, and quesadilla itself tasted great. Lots of limes included in each meal! Horchata was also a 4; I got a medium for $5 but look at the picture I posted-- that cup is massive! The horchata here has more of a milky taste and it's not very sweet, so if that's how you like it I would strongly suggest grabbing one. I tried to order pumpkin tamales. Three times. On the first time, I went in person. Took the tamale out of the bin labeled pumpkin. The tamale itself was unlabeled. It turned out to be a sweet corn tamale that someone had put in the bin labeled pumpkin tamales. The second time I ordered Doordash. I ordered 6 tamales: 2 pumpkin, 1 strawberry, 1 pineapple, 1beef, and 1 pork. I received the same order, but instead of 2 pumpkin tamales and pineapple tamale, I was given 3 pineapple tamales. No communication from Doordash about this exchange of product. The next day I ordered 3 pumpkin tamales, through Doordash. Apparently, they were out again, and I received 3 beef tamales instead, again with no effort to communicate the problem through Doordash. It was just substituted without my consent or knowledge. I don't know if this is more a review of Doordash or of Vallarta. I can only say that I tried three separate times now to buy a stupid pumpkin tamale and was foiled on each attempt. I'm not going to try again It's a waste of my time and money, esp. when substitutions I didn't authorize were sent instead, without my knowledge. Three fucking times. Communication and or labeling needs to be a lot better, imo. read more

Vallarta Supermarket! So excited when this Southeastern U.S. resident learned there was a store in Fresno. My daughter in Los Angeles introduced me to this fantastic food store when I visited several years ago. Everything for the person who cooks and eats Mexican cuisine. And now another visit to relatives and another Vallarta! I ordered take-out chili rellaños--almost the size of dinner plates and equally as big in taste. Added sour cream and avocado at home. Deliciousness. I took time to pass by the patisserie and dream about biting into one of the amazingly-decorated cakes and tarts, and I purposely bypassed the large collection of cookies and other yummy baked goods that I tasted during my initial introduction to the store. The meat and seafood cases are massive with both cooked and raw varieties. It's definitely worth a field trip to see all this large market has to offer. read more

Got a cheese that was expired since march 2024 yesterday. The bathrooms looked like this recently and I have a potty training toddler who understandably didn't want to use the blood and pee covered toilets. The floors where completely flooded in one and the other had blood all over the floor and toilet. There was no urgency even though the ladies at the agua spot kept calling and asking for someone to go over. It took over 20 minutes we ended up using the flooded bathroom because I didn't want to leave to go find a bathroom and come back for my groceries. We ran did the groceries came back in about 15 and there was still no one there but a line of people waiting for them to get cleaned too. The ladies at the cheese spot and pico spot are so sweet and helpful. The tortilla people are also always nice Been wanting to write this review ever since 2021 but I was very sick then. One of the older workers has been so rude everytime we go he goes out of his way to follow us around the store and kicked us out in 2021 for not wearing a mask. I was pregnant and had my other baby with me in the cash register done groceries shopping and he kicked me out because I wasn't wearing a mask. I had hyperemeis and getting suffocated from breathing fresh air made me more nauseous and dizzy. I explained I had a medical condition and even had a pump in my stomach (zofran pump) I was obviously pregnant and having a hard time standing and getting groceries yet he kicked me out, pulled my shopping cart with my baby in it out of the line and told us to leave. I asked if I could just pay and he laughed and told us to leave. I had already gotten through the entire store and had a full cart. I am still butthurt about it in 2024 because Years later we still go and every time we go he is still there and follows us around and makes faces and we have a stare down. I am from Mexico and love the products here, delicious made meals, tortillas, and good quality fruits. I won't stop shopping here because some guy feels entitled like he owns the place and some Customers made a mess but management needs to do better. That guy I believe is a manager and I have seen him down talk the cashiers, do better dude. Be humble you're not better than anyone else. I have been coming to this Vallarta supermarket since 2011 as it was my first time coming to such a market that specializes in Hispanics goods. I came here recently on 4/04/21 on an Easter Sunday. The overall store itself wasn't packed but the Fresh cut meat was overloaded with people. Since it was my first day doing instacart the customer wanted fresh meat from the meat department so I grabbed a number and I was number 80. At the time they were on number 65 when I got my number which I felt like it was gonna go quick so I decided to stick around instead roaming and checking out the other delicious looking foods. Good thing I did as they were quick to get to me less than 10 min. I usually get the Chicken Al Pastor for tacos which is my favorite meat here for tacos, casseroles paired with their fresh tortillas the street ones and usually low in calories as well. I remember the days I would frequent this location very often mostly the Pan dulce and the fresh meat that the male employees knew me pretty well. One time I guess I was looking on fleek - my beauty made him nervous, the bold person I am - I called him out on it and he turned bright red which was funny. As you can tell I always have good, funny and lovely experiences here. The days when I didn't work from home as this location was close to my work office and it would be a breeze to stop by after work. Now that's it's been a year working from home I am not in the area unless I'm working for Shipt or Instacart. It is always clean and smells good. They also have a restaurant inside, fresh fruit drinks, bakery and Pan Dulce. They also have typical American foods as well. A lot of fresh herbs, veggies and fruits slightly more expensive than some stores (Winco is cheapest in my opinion for fresh produce) I am looking forward to shopping here more often mostly the fresh meats for cooking or grilling. Overall, I would recommend you come here for the meats and Pan dulce even their fresh Mexican cheese too which is my fav for homemade street tacos. read more

****CHECK YOUR PRICING**** This week's ad has Pepsi 12 packs on sale for $4.99 but when I went in the store they charged me $7.99 and said I had to buy 3 of them to get that price even though it doesn't say that anywhere in the add or in the store. I bought masa for tamales at this location. It was the worst I've ever bought! I've bought here previous years and never had a problem. The masa was EXTREMELY grainy. I am the shopper in our family. And would challenge ANYBODY in knowing prices and value. Vallarta is patronized by the Mexican population in Fresno because they think it,is close to their culture in shopping. WRONG. It is the biggest ripoff for lower income individuals and the management should be in jail for their price gouging. Everything is overpriced except sale items in the store. Canned goods especially. Example: I needed some cream of mushroom soup for a recipe today and was driving thru the area. Campbells soup $2.79 a can. Unbelievable. I didn't buy it and continued on to WINCO. Same size can $1.78 and this is typical of all their prices in the aisles. Do yourself and your family, go somewhere else. read more

Vallarta has its ups and downs, but I'm in here quite a bit, as it is close to our house. I think most of the time the staff are friendly and helpful. Most of the staff speak both Spanish and English, of course for some its easier than others, so I try to use Spanish as much as possible when I am there. I enjoy the fruits and veggies, the carniceria, and the sales they have on the seafood! (Be prepared to take a number and wait for a little, in the carniceria, especially if it is a weekend.) The carniceria has at times been disappointing when it comes to selection or freshness of selection, so make sure you choose wisely! Our family also enjoys the fresh tortillas, and when we don't feel like cooking, buying carnitas or pollo asado from the taqueria is always a good decision too. I am a fan of their aguas frescas as well. Their pan dulce is perfect to pick out if you are having company or just to keep around the house. Now (as of Summer 2019) they even sell paletas and ice cream! I'm hoping this isn't just a summer thing, because that section of the store always made me wonder how long the salsas, etc. sat out, so I am glad they found a better use for this section. The every day grocery items can get kind of pricey, so I don't do my general shopping here, but if you check their ads, you can sometimes catch stuff at pretty good prices! We love shopping at Vallarta. We look forward to the advertisement page coming in the mail and then we can plan our shop. Vallarta is the only place in town I will buy pan dulce. It is always fresh and they always have the kinds we like. The prices are fair. We love the produce area. Potatoes, peppers, bananas and more. My friend from Modesto comes every couple of months and we go shopping at Vallarta. She likes a certain spice to cook with that is from Costa Rica and buys lots of them to take home. Often on Sunday we will go and eat Vallarta after church. You can smell all the delicious food cooking when you walk in the door. I know not everyone has to have a smile on their face at all times but it was far beyond than just that with an employee I had an encounter with. I was trying to have the Jarra Agua Guava scanned but it was not popping up on the system and we asked the employee at the self checkout to help us but she was very hostile and unhelpful. Once after multiple times of trying to scan it, she finally helped. Another customer also told her she needs to smile more after asking numerous times for her to come help him. He was very sweet. I got these cool beer candles from there too! We also bought a strawberry filled cake and it was good but the outside was tough and dried out.... Very large grocery market specializing in such great Hispanics cuisines and ingredients. Anything exotic you are looking for, most likely will be available here. My favorite and most visited section of the market is definitely the pan dulce section. Regardless of the season or the day, I am fortunate to have never seen the bakery section empty. All the breads seem to be fully stocked and rotated daily, at least the plenty times I've visited, by the workers. Who are always professional and follow food-safe standards. Vallarta has it all! They've got a nice carniceria in the back with a LARGE variety of fresh meats and cheeses all sold by the pound. The prices at the carniceria are good and they always run sales so you can get the meat at an even better value. On the left entrance, as soon as you walk in to the left of you, is their panaderia. The panaderia is beautifully adorned with many decorated cakes of all sizes and occasion, a large selection of fresh pan dulce, and other sweets and refreshments. The panaderia is also located right next to the cocina, where they prepare fresh mexican dishes. All the food in the cocina is priced fair, good quality, and taste. The rest of the store has great deals and prices on their groceries and Mexican goods. They also have various other services located in the front of the store, like eyebrow waxing/threading, taxes, and more. They have both self checkout and regular check lanes. At self checkout, they sometimes have samples of different things. My only gripe with Vallarta is that the customer service is hit or miss. Sometimes, the customer service is excellent, and sometimes I'm made irritated by an unwarranted attitude.
