This place is a hidden gem. Windrush Inn operates sort of as a hotel and sort of as an AirBnB. There's no front desk or lobby and room access is via a code. The place changed ownership a few years ago and the new owner is great -- very responsive to text messages and made sure we were taken care of. Rooms are large, clean, and safe. It was a great place to stay with my wife and our dog. There's even a dog towel to wipe sandy paws which Baxter appreciated. Boardwalk access is directly across the street. There are only four rooms and the place is at the north end of Windrush Beach so it's quiet but not isolated. There are not a lot of amenities along the beach, so you definitely need a car to get around. We hope to stay here again when we need pet friendly accommodations. read more

Windrush was by far the best experience we've had staying in the Cambria area. Moonstone is packed with hotels and inns, and in a market filled with plenty of options, Windrush is the perfect choice for us. The value on the rooms themselves, the wonderful service we received from the entire staff, in making sure we were taken care of, comfortable, in the know about local events and great spots to be, and in the wonderful location! The fact that Windrush sat at the end of the line of accommodations meant way less traffic, serene quiet, uninterrupted views of the sunset and the beach, and a lovely meadow and cove area directly nearby. The room had great AC and heat; the bathroom was super spacious and lovely, the bed was clean and crisp, and the locking system was no hassle and very secure. The boardwalk is a straight shot, with miles of beach to walk along, and so many amazing people to meet! The chairs in the front of Windrush, along with the nice bench and seating area outside our particular unit made for an abundance of really great spots to take in the views and the breeze at your leisure! Overall, our experience here has far surpassed the others we've had in Cambria; with amazing service, beautiful views and an staff that cares about you having an amazing experience, perfectly situated location, and a value that far exceeds what you've paid for! We can't wait to return and see more of Cambria, knowing we'll be well taken care of here :) Rooms: Super clean, spacious without being excessive, well heated and cooled, and a phenomenal bathroom that made it hard to even leave! Nearby activities: Super cute farmers markets, specialty shops, coffee shops, and super eclectic bakeries and restaurants in the downtown area. The beach is a rocks throw away and full of amazing views, beaches, boardwalks, and vistas, all within a short walking distance! Safety: The locking mechanism was extremely secure without being a hassle or unintuitive. I felt very well taken care of, with maintenance and accommodation people within reach and that truly cared. Walkability: The beach area and the nearby restaurants and vista are all literally so close by we didn't even bother with shoes some of the time. The downtown is maybe a 2 minute drive from the Inn, and well worth it, with ample parking. But for any and all things beachside, you never need to use a car. Food & drinks: The Inn's staff had great recommendations for local pizza, bakeries, bars, and thrift stores that all came in handy! There's plenty of offerings; so be sure to ask about what you're interested in, they're local and will definitely tell you the stuff you can't miss! Noteworthy details: Hearst Castle and the wine offerings nearby are a lesser known way to experience the local scene and to get some great history and wine alongside it! And super close! read more

We had an amazing Stay at Windrush Inn. The views were spectacular & grounds were beautiful with all different types of succulents & flowers! We got sunshine every morning and beautiful sunsets even though it's supposed to storm the entire time. You could hear the ocean from the room, which was so nice to fall asleep to. Plenty of extra blankets and towels for your pets. Mike made it very easy to accommodate all our needs & upgraded me to the fabulous Gale suite w someone canceling last minute. We had a fantastic stay at this place. To be honest, it has surpassed our expectations in many areas. The Harbor House was clean, quiet , conveniently located away from most traffic , and has huge windows with 180 degrees ocean view. We have stayed at many of the hotels and inns along Moonstone Beach and this is our favorite. The location is perfect, directly across from the ocean, and it is at a "quiet" end of the beach, less hotel density and close to the state park. Beautiful and remote, the beach is right in front of you and the forest is right behind. This inn sits at the end of a row of beachfront inns. You lose phone signal about 8 miles south of the Moonstone Beach, but it's fine, the heck with social media flexing, try to spot the Pacific hiding just on the other side of the road. There is no phone in the unit, but when you arrive, you can connect to the complimentary Wi-Fi to let your loved ones know you made it safe, or you can use the lack of signal as an excuse to not check in at all and tuck your phone into one of the many drawers provided. This place is freshly remodeled, but the location is everything. You can sit and have your morning coffee from the Keurig on the bench outside your unit or walk directly across the road to the oceanfront boardwalk where I alternated between sitting on the little wooden bench and walking the path, watching the waves and kayakers all the way. The local walkers and pooches were very friendly. I think there was only one group of people that did not say hi, and they were actively lamenting having to say good morning to everyone they passed. I stayed in Unit Bay, a spacious studio perfect for two with a big TV and a tiny dining table. There is a Keurig, two mugs, and a handful of Pike Roast Keurigs cups waiting for you in the morning. Our unit had a mini fridge with an ice tray (I could not locate a drinking fountain and there were no complimentary waters, so I i filled the tray with a bottle of water I brought with me). There are big windows that have blackout blinds. It was very dark in the morning with the blinds closed and luxurious bright when opened. The lighting fixtures are extremely bright, but the night-light system throughout the inn is clever and so gentle lights follow you as you walk from your car to the inn. The bathroom was nice, newly remodeled with a waterfall showerhead complete with handheld showerhead. The showerhead was a bit big for the water pressure, but throughout the day and night the water was hot and the bathroom was clean and fully functional. They have the fan on the bathroom set to "always on" to assist with humidity. Mike, the manager, stocks Neutrogena shampoo and conditioner, which I was grateful for as I'd forgotten my toiletries in Los Angeles. I love Neutrogena. Their products work for all different types of hair and scalps, including my coily hair and my partner's sensitive psoriasis prone scalp. For once, I was excited to use hotel shampoo and conditioner. They have an iron and ironing board in the unit as well as complimentary beach towels waiting at the door. There was an extra comforter already stocked and I think I saw an air mattress in the closet? I could be mistaken. There are also black towels for makeup. There was napkin and towel art within the bathroom and I love these little thoughtful touches that show pride in management and ownership. Mike was attentive and responsive, check-in is at 3pm, but even when we arrived at 10pm he was gracious and accommodating. Because we arrived so late, I asked for a late checkout. Note that they do not offer late checkout, but instead Mike asked housekeeping to service our room last and bought us another 2 hours of time to get ready. There was honestly no need, it was so peaceful that we got out of there well before 12:30 rested and rejuvenated by the peaceful room and scenery. Per Mike's request, I have provided him with feedback directly about a few things and he was very receptive. I am so grateful to have found this place. It is an oasis for those of us craving to unplug. We were fortunate to spend 2 nights at the main Harbor house and had tours of the other available units including, Bay unit, Cove unit and the ADA unit, Gale. Harbor features 2 bedrooms with king beds and 2 fold-out sofas, a full kitchen, private baths close walk to Moonstone Beach and local restaurants. The 3 units (Bay, Cove, Gale) each have a private bath, mini-fridge, microwave and Keurig. Beach towels provided for duration of our stay. Did I mention the view? Grab a bottle of your favorite libation or non-alcoholic drink and soak in the glow of the sunlit Pacific. Please note, Windrush Inn is not a bed and breakfast. Well lit parking lot. The panoramic view of the ocean and boardwalk were stunning from every area of the property. The perfect place to have a romantic getaway or plan a multi family trip where everyone can be together in one location. We had the pleasure of staying at the main house (Harbor). Many conveniences of home were supplied in the kitchen and bedrooms/bathrooms. This was very much appreciated! The bedrooms were spacious and very comfortable. Upon arrival we could not turn the heater on in our room, however, we were able to reach the host immediately and he did troubleshoot and resolve. The room was cozy warm for our entire stay. We will absolutely visit Windrush Inn again, as there was not enough time to enjoy all the property had to offer in a weekend. read more

This is a diamond in the rough! We had a great stay in Cambria here. Booking was easy through their website. Mike, the host and owner, was very communicative and nice to talk with. Windrush Inn is the very last inn on Moonstone Beach Drive. Thus, we had a very quiet environment away from the traffic that the rest of the street had. We stayed in the very spacious Unit B. The bed was very comfortable. New appliances (mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker.) Though we didn't have a front view of the ocean, we were able to comfortably sit at the table next to the big picture windows and enjoy the ocean view there. Oh! We've been in many hotels with the noisiest heaters. This one was so quiet you didn't know it was on. It heated the room comfortably. (FYI: our stay was during one of the cold and blustery windy days of the year!) The first of a kind for us was the keyless smart lock. What a great way to enter and lock up! Outdoors had the most beautiful flower gardens throughout the premises. read more

The views from the living room and dining room are amazing to people watch on the boardwalk or enjoy a beautiful sunset. Very comfortable two queen size beds, with awesome sheets, large television, heated bathroom floor, handicapped access, and gorgeous two head shower, Keurig coffeemaker, refrigerator, and microwave! Beautifully modern atmosphere. Adirondack chairs right outside to watch the sunset! Security, cameras and lights above each parking spot in back, directly across the street from an access to the new walkway along the cliffs above the beach. Mike was available extremely quickly if there was anything else we needed. I love this place, and I'm so grateful I found it!
