Stayed here this week with my husband and two daughters. Great little hotel. In doing my research, it stated there would be a bathrobe for every guest. There were none for us. I called the front desk because we were also not provided with hand soap. Had two robes taken to our room, because that is all they could find in all the hotel and no soap. Overall, it was close to main downtown, Hearst Castle(which we toured and it was amazing), and the beach, which was the purpose of our trip. I stayed here for two nights with two rooms; one room with a king bed and a room with two queen beds. The photos attached are for the room with the king bed. I selected this hotel due to its close proximity to Moonstone Beach and the fact it is one of the few hotels in Cambria with air conditioning. We arrived to the hotel with a parking lot on the side of the hotel and a parking garage underneath. We arrived to a smallish lobby area and we checked in easily. I was happy with the appearance of the room as the decor was nice. It had a ceiling fan and a fireplace and I really liked the orange travertine tile in the bathroom. I was happy this place had A/C but I have to mention that this was the most lame installation I have even seen. The thermostat was directly across from the A/C vents in just a matter of feet so it gave the wrong impression regarding the room temperature. This was not an issue in the room with the double queen. The hotel is not staffed 24/7 so be aware for early or late check in and check out. Housekeeping does not clean the rooms during your stay so you will need to request extra towels or coffee pods as needed. They do serve a free continental breakfast but the offerings are slim. We went for a walk as the Moonstone Beach boardwalk entrance is right next to the hotel. The boardwalk was cool as it was surrounded by plants and trees on both sides on the way to the beach. I really loved the appearance of the shower here; however, the water pressure was so low that I thought it would run out of water with soap still on my body. It also took an absurd amount of time for the water temperature to change after adjusting the knob. I will say that the towels here were memorable as the fabric was very nice. Overall 3.5 stars but if the water pressure was improved it would be higher. read more

We had a good experience here for our getaway in Cambria with our husky. The location was ideal for walking on the dog-friendly Moonstone Beach boardwalk, the rooms were nice, and parking was free. The deep tub was also perfect for a long soak and overall the property and the area were quiet. I was glad that we had a fireplace and air conditioning because we needed both during our April stay. We didn't have breakfast other than coffee, so I can't comment on that. I agree with other reviewers that the hotel doesn't quite fit the upscale image on the website and social media. Customer service was similar to what we encountered from Morro Bay up to Ragged Point: more standoffish than expected, but ultimately helpful. All in all, we would stay here again if we wanted another retreat on the Central Coast. read more

My husband booked this hotel because of the "spa" services. Although it is advertised as a "hotel and spa", no one was available to provide a massage for 4 days. Needless to say, we were quite disappointed. The room we had was well decorated and clean. Some weird alarm kept me up during the night, but thankfully, it was eventually resolved. The lady at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. However, there were several times we went out to ask questions and there was no one to be found. I would also suggest maybe providing some fresh fruit, in addition to packaged muffins and oatmeal, in the morning. read more

Very disappointing and stressful stay overall. We experienced significant ongoing noise issues from the jacuzzi above our room and repeated late-night disturbances throughout our stay, with no overnight staff, security presence, for support. While housekeeping was initially described as available and a service request was even approved, we were later informed it would not be provided as we were coming back from a long day. As a result, we were left to manage accumulated trash and room upkeep ourselves without meaningful assistance. A vaccuum we had asked for to clean oursleves never arrived, Cleanliness in common areas was also a concern, with the lobby and entrance areas often appearing unmaintained for days at a time with wine spills on the floor from the night partying. The advertised "included breakfast" was also very minimal, consisting mainly of coffee and prepackaged muffins or bagels, which did not match expectations. What stood out most, however, was the way concerns were handled by management. During discussions about these issues, communication felt confrontational and dismissive rather than solution-oriented. After raising concerns about housekeeping and cleanliness, previously waived fees were later applied to our account, which felt very discouraging given the circumstances. In addition, during our stay we observed management smoking directly outside guest areas, and there were several instances where we were not acknowledged or assisted when passing staff in relation to unresolved issues. Overall, the experience reflected a lack of consistent management presence, support for guests, and professionalism in handling concerns. We had booked it for 6 days, and we left on day 5 loosing that day, but we felt management was making it really hard for us to enjoy our vacation read more

Spacious shower and hot tub (didn't use the hot tub though) Nice trail that leads to the beach Clean room Cons: Water pressure was awful!!! It took at least -/+3 minutes to rinse shampoo/conditioner off my head when it's typically a 30 second job. AC was loud! Only turned on in short bursts or left it on when we stepped out of the room to get food. Dead pixels on tv. Buttons on remote were sucky. Some didn't work *do not get a room behind lobby. So cute! It's a great value for your money, you don't get to see the ocean from your room but it's not a long walk and there's a path to the beach pretty close by. You can also hear the waves from your room which is nice. The provided breakfast is more of a take and go situation, so plan on going to breakfast out. read more

A beautiful dog friendly hotel nestled in the heart of Cambria! The rooms were EXCELLENT, clean, updated...the bathroom was gorgeous with deep tubs and walk in showers! There was the cutest plank walkway right to the beach one way...right across the street was Main street with shops and restaurants! A perfect location! The staff is top notch...they offered us suggestions, recommendations...we went with the express desire to see Hearst Castle and the hotel staff helped us every step of the way! My wife and I stayed here when it first opened and had a great experience, so we returned years later for her birthday(Nov. 2025). Things unfortunately have changed for the worse. This place is fairly nice, but could use some great improvements. Especially from a customer satisfaction standpoint. The rooms are nice and clean, but the registration area and eating area are pretty low budget - for the prices they charge. The breakfast was extremely sparse and ran out by mid morning, which left everybody who had not arrived by 9:30 AM out of luck. The staff seemed powerless in regards to restocking up the breakfast items. They don't have a pool, but they have a Jacuzzi. Unfortunately, the entire time we were there, the Jacuzzi was set to about 95 to 98 degrees. Although the staff did say it was supposed to be at 104°. After several requests, the Jacuzzi stayed at that low temperature. The ladies that run the check-in and check-out were very nice. read more

This hotel looks a lot bigger in photos. The service was sub-par, no one answers the phone when we called from the hotel room. We also stayed there for 2 nights, but there is no housekeeping service. We had to go down to the lobby to ask for more towels, etc. In the King bed room we stayed in, there was only a small pull out TV by the bed. Would have been nicer to have a larger TV by the bed. There was a nice view of the forest outside, however it wasn't private, we could see people walking outside under our window. Overall wouldn't return to this particular hotel. read more

Our stay was for one night. I would stay here again. The amenities were great, like the steam room and jacuzzi. We checked in on a Sunday, and both areas were empty and extra nice to use privately. I was surprised by the breakfast, I was expecting a little more, but we ended up getting full with bagels and the hard boiled eggs they had. There was tea and coffee as well, although the hot water ran out twice during our stay, so we just asked the staff for more and they were SUPER friendly and replenished the tea area. They also had some packaged sweet bread. The parking is underground and there is an elevator which makes it super convenient. The room was nice and clean, bed comfortable, and enough towels provided in room. I look forward to booking again! read more

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times now. It's our new goto spot in Cambria. Honestly the only con is no ocean view. The rooms are newly refurbished and it's got a spa, boutique decor and ambience. The staff has been fantastic and helpful on every business. The hot tub is divine. They serve a light continental breakfast, they have a high snack selection and beer and wine on tap! Checked into our room early. Our room is awful. The room is dark with the window directly beside the parking lot, so we can't open the curtains without everyone looking in. This was a special holiday for us, so really disappointed. There was no offer for assistance after I notified the front desk, saying it was full up and she had no input to what room we were given. Loved my stay. The rooms were a good size and immaculate. seriously cleaner than any chain hotel. The products in the shower were great...I need to figure out where to buy the body wash. I liked that a makeup wash cloth was provided. The towels were quality and there was more than enough. The bedding was perfect after a long day of hiking. The padded head board and the numerous pillows made reading in bed perfect. I was on the 2nd floor facing the nature preserve. I kept the windows open and could hear the ocean during the night. The BEST! The front staff was helpful. The hotel sits next to a walking path that takes you to the beach. Round-trip of the path is about 3 miles of spectacular beach views. If you decided to walk down to the beach, you will find the why to the name Moonstone Beach. Con's- Super late check in Lack of hotel directory/ info in the room- this would have been helpful turning on the fireplace There was only one lock on the door. The cutest, most relaxing hotel with the perfect location! It's a few minutes' walk to Moonstone Beach, as well as nearby restaurants and shopping. Parking is underground or in the small lot, and free. I loved that our room was spacious and had a working, electric fireplace and good AC. The jacuzzi was nice, too... we ordered pizzas and brought them up. The front lobby area has vending machines and sells drinks, snacks, wine bottles, and they also have a self-pour wine and beer tap wall. You use a card to pour as much as you want, then get charged at the end, and it's 24/7. So convenient! Only downside is that the lobby is pretty stark and bare... not cozy to hang out in and very minimalist. I see other reviewers talking about breakfast, but we were told we would be charged for fruit, yogurt, water and snacks that were in the lobby. Front lobby/office doesn't match the warmth of the rest of the hotel and seems more like a motel. I'd still love to come back... the location is everything! read more

The room was clean and had a nice fireplace (though it seems like all rooms do). The staff was friendly, and the location is great--just a short 3-minute walk to the beach. It's a simple, no-frills stay but perfectly fine for the price. The biggest downside was the free breakfast--it was very minimal, with no fruit (not even a banana), just a wrapped bagel and oatmeal. If you can get a good deal through Hotels Tonight or use your points, it's worth it. Otherwise, manage your expectations. read more

Wonderful stay out in Cambria to just get away from it all for a bit. My wife and I decided to get out of the City for a long weekend and opted to travel and visit Cambria. A sleepy little town that is just a short drive from the Pacific Ocean and peppered with small town vibes and some good eats, Cambria was a relaxing little get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We chose El Colibri because of what it seemed to have offered, which was relaxation and peacefulness. And during covid, it was a good stay. During our stay, we were unable to take advantage of any spa treatments or pool, but it was a relaxing stay nontheless. Parking was downstairs with, I believe, 2 EV charging stations right before you head down to the parking. read more

Excellent place, in last 8 Years we have spent total of 30 nights in El Colibri and never have been disappointed we also stayed in 7 different other small hotels ( boutique hotels) in area some for several times. But El colibri was the cleaner, newer and better overall condition. Only minus I would say is no breakfast place the turned their bar to an Automatic wine / beer vending machine which is horrible and no swimming pool just spa and Sona. It's more secluded in woods but closer to main area. Hard to explain the location. Prices just gone up and this January 2022 we decided to stay anther place at Moonstone beach. Pass by them they were empty whereas others are super packed . Anything more than 250$ a night is too much for the place . read more

We stayed two nights at El Colibri Hotel & Spa. We did not partake in the "spa" part of the hotel. It's a small place and compact. The front desk person leaves at 9pm, so the front door is locked and if you return later, you take the elevator up from the underground parking area. The room was beautifully decorated. The bathroom was huge with a fantastic shower. We had a corner room with 2 big windows that opened, as well as a couch and fireplace. Only odd thing was that there's no "proper" closet and though there's a place to hang shirts and pants folded over a hanger, I don't know where people would hang a dress or pants they wanted to hang down straight. It was an easy walk to West Village for dinner and a path in the other direction to Moonstone Beach. It was a quick 10-minute drive up to Hearst's Castle. We enjoyed our stay at El Colibri Hotel & Spa and will stay there the next time we head up to Cambria. read more

Such mixed feelings about this place. Super convenient location for us. Close to our family's place in a nearby neighborhood and also right across from downtown Cambria and Moonstone Beach. Although it's not on the main hotel drag of ocean facing hotels, you can still hear the lull of the ocean waves hitting the shore. Service was fine. One of the receptionists was cheerful and friendly. One never spoke to us or made eye contact, just looked at her cell phone. The room was generally nice and clean. Design decent. Fireplace and jacuzzi tub were fantastic after hiking and exploring. But the walls are thin. We could hear others coughing, showering and using the toilet. Hear kids shouting in the halls. We mostly enjoyed our stay but didn't feel it warranted over $300/night. We will definitely try again if we can get a much better rate. read more

Great little hotel. Front desk staff was great. Love the fireplaces. Plenty of parking. My dad can normally find a lot to complain about but he liked this place! There is a breakfast! I could not find that info when booking but they have muffins, bagels, yogurt, cereal, coffee and tea in the lobby. The jacuzzi will not work after 10pm so be mindful of the hours they tell you. There is no gym but you are just down the road from Moonstone Drive walking bath along the ocean. Our main issue was that the shamppo and conditioner in the shower was beyond empty. They are mounted to the wall so you can't even shake out the bottle. So housekeeping might not be as on top of things. Tip: Get a room away from the ice machine. Apparently, a lot of people need ice at 2am. We rolled up a towel to put at base of the door on the second night to keep sound out. read more

First time visiting Cambria, 1/2023. Took a road trip right after the new year along the Central Coast. As I was researching places to stay on booking in Cambria, I came across El Colbri, the price for an off season stay was AMAZING, low hundreds!!! Of course, summer and sunnier weather would be ideal but I was a big fan of a winter stay, we would be paying double . Barely any tourist, got the town and all its gems to ourselves, including this room. Interior: Minimal, neutral tones. The hotel is quite small, the online website pics are a bit deceiving, it was giving European vibes, but once we arrived it wasn't as elegant. They have a lounge area, nothing special just the beer on tap that guest can get and pay for later. A small table seating area but no restaurant or kitchen, just a vending machine. A couple floors of hotel rooms, and on the top floor a small steam room, hot tub, and massage rooms. Our room: We stood in the superior 1 King with Jacuzzi room. It was perfect for my husband and I. Romantic, a bit outdated with the carpet and decor. Nice lighting with the curtains and fireplace added an extra bit of spice. The jacuzzi comfortably fits two people max but a bit squished, we brought our bath bubbles and wine to make it relaxing. Bed was great, mini fridge fit our goodies, bathroom was small but did the job. Shower was spacious and lined with terracotta lined tile. Exterior: Fresco, tan toned, Mediterranean looking vibe. Pros: -Secluded safe parking garage, only fits about 20 cars. -Easy and quick access to the beach! 1 minute walk to the serene pathway that leads you past trees and to the stairs and view point. -Small hotel, personal, no lines -Walking distance to shops and restaurants -Amazing price off season!! -Nice staff Cons: -Walls are quite thin -Continental breakfast is not much, tea or coffee and bar of some sort or cereal, I think? Didn't take it. -Snacks are what I expect at a motel -Bad wifi connection, had to leave room to make a call. Point was to disconnect so wasn't too mad about it. I would recommend this to anyone during off season. I would never pay $400 plus a night for our room during the summer, especially when I know I can get it for $126 a night during off season. I really didn't want to update my review because I've stayed here a bunch of times and we typically have had a decent say but the last time was poor and left me feeling negatively about this hotel. I booked about a week randomly just to get away and get some needed sleep and relaxation. All was well with booking but once I arrived things took a turn for the worst. They decided to keep the hotel open while they were doing major renovations and it was never mentioned on the website, when we booked or even at check-in, we weren't very happy but not much we can do at that point. The parking garage was half full of construction items and furniture but that was just the start. The room was great, nice big room and it was just renovated. However, location was not great because it faced the left parking lot and in that lot there was a huge dumpster right in line of site so that was less than ideal. We had some drinks, went to bed and before we knew it around 4 or 5 in the morning the huge dumpster was being emptied. It was LOUD and woke us up. I'm not sure who okayed that but what a joke. To top it off at around 7:45 in the morning they began renovations in the unit above ours and it felt like they were about to hammer through the floor. What a disaster and huge disappointment. I promptly went to the front desk to see if I could get a room change because I was told the dumpster would be emptied frequently and that hour. At first we were denied because of availability but then we got a call shortly after to switch rooms. Finally we thought, we would be able to get some rest. NOPE. The room was nice and definitely in a better location but the noise from construction started around 8:30 in the morning and did not stop until the late afternoon. This lasted the ENTIRE stay. We were not the only ones visibly upset as another couple was packing up and voiced their frustration with us as we were leaving for the day. We spoke to the front desk and we were not given any options other than to ride out the visit which was terrible due to the noise and loud music from the workers. At the end, we were asked how the stay went and even after voicing our concerns, they didn't really seem to care. Also, they charged me for my service dog which they have never done before. I asked for a receipt as it was supposedly corrected but it never was and I had to have my credit card company fight to get a refund. Unfortunately, we won't be staying here again, location is great and the price is very good but as some others have mentioned the walls are thin and it never felt like a spa experience, even prior to this incident. read more

Most affordable, nice and clean hotel in the area. El Colibri is located near Moonstone Beach, beach shops and restaurants, and downtown Cambria. I booked a standard room online through a third party. Upon checking in, the front desk associate offered to upgrade our room to one with a king bed, jacuzzi bathtub, and fireplace at no additional cost. The room was clean, tidy, and modern. We had a view of woods from the sliding door, which made it feel private and nice. There's a spa and outside jacuzzi on the second floor of the hotel. We didn't use either, but both looked nice. I'm not sure why there are so many negative views. I am definitely booking here again next time I'm in Cambria! read more
