View from the Moonstone Beach boardwalk near the hotel, at sunset.

We had a good experience here for our getaway in Cambria with our husky. The location was ideal for walking on the dog-friendly Moonstone Beach boardwalk, the rooms were nice, and parking was free. The deep tub was also perfect for a long soak and overall the property and the area were quiet. I was glad that we had a fireplace and air conditioning because we needed both during our April stay. We didn't have breakfast other than coffee, so I can't comment on that. I agree with other reviewers that the hotel doesn't quite fit the upscale image on the website and social media. Customer service was similar to what we encountered from Morro Bay up to Ragged Point: more standoffish than expected, but ultimately helpful. All in all, we would stay here again if we wanted another retreat on the Central Coast.

Room 110 (Superior Room w/jacuzzi) Pros: Good location thats near stores and restaurants but not along the ocean Wet bar, typically don't see these anymore. Spacious shower and hot tub (didn't use the hot tub though) Nice trail that leads to the beach Clean room Cons: Water pressure was awful!!! It took at least -/+3 minutes to rinse shampoo/conditioner off my head when it's typically a 30 second job. AC was loud! Only turned on in short bursts or left it on when we stepped out of the room to get food. Dead pixels on tv. Buttons on remote were sucky. Some didn't work *do not get a room behind lobby. Lots of foot traffic/noise. Overall would possibly stay again but would look for a different hotel first.

A beautiful dog friendly hotel nestled in the heart of Cambria! The rooms were EXCELLENT, clean, updated...the bathroom was gorgeous with deep tubs and walk in showers! There was the cutest plank walkway right to the beach one way...right across the street was Main street with shops and restaurants! A perfect location! The staff is top notch...they offered us suggestions, recommendations...we went with the express desire to see Hearst Castle and the hotel staff helped us every step of the way! We will definitely return! A plus..fireplaces in every room and a rooftop spa...heaven!

This place is fairly nice, but could use some great improvements. Especially from a customer satisfaction standpoint. The rooms are nice and clean, but the registration area and eating area are pretty low budget - for the prices they charge. The breakfast was extremely sparse and ran out by mid morning, which left everybody who had not arrived by 9:30 AM out of luck. The staff seemed powerless in regards to restocking up the breakfast items. They don't have a pool, but they have a Jacuzzi. Unfortunately, the entire time we were there, the Jacuzzi was set to about 95 to 98 degrees. Although the staff did say it was supposed to be at 104°. After several requests, the Jacuzzi stayed at that low temperature. The ladies that run the check-in and check-out were very nice.

Our stay was for one night. I would stay here again. The amenities were great, like the steam room and jacuzzi. We checked in on a Sunday, and both areas were empty and extra nice to use privately. I was surprised by the breakfast, I was expecting a little more, but we ended up getting full with bagels and the hard boiled eggs they had. There was tea and coffee as well, although the hot water ran out twice during our stay, so we just asked the staff for more and they were SUPER friendly and replenished the tea area. They also had some packaged sweet bread. The parking is underground and there is an elevator which makes it super convenient. The room was nice and clean, bed comfortable, and enough towels provided in room. I look forward to booking again!

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times now. It's our new goto spot in Cambria. Honestly the only con is no ocean view. The rooms are newly refurbished and it's got a spa, boutique decor and ambience. The staff has been fantastic and helpful on every business. The hot tub is divine. They serve a light continental breakfast, they have a high snack selection and beer and wine on tap! Our room had a large soaking tub.

Loved my stay. The rooms were a good size and immaculate. seriously cleaner than any chain hotel. The products in the shower were great...I need to figure out where to buy the body wash. I liked that a makeup wash cloth was provided. The towels were quality and there was more than enough. The bedding was perfect after a long day of hiking. The padded head board and the numerous pillows made reading in bed perfect. I was on the 2nd floor facing the nature preserve. I kept the windows open and could hear the ocean during the night. The BEST! The front staff was helpful. The hotel sits next to a walking path that takes you to the beach. Round-trip of the path is about 3 miles of spectacular beach views. If you decided to walk down to the beach, you will find the why to the name Moonstone Beach. Con's- Super late check in Lack of hotel directory/ info in the room- this would have been helpful turning on the fireplace There was only one lock on the door. I would have felt better if there was a security lock on the inside The breakfast just was ok 7:30 is a bit too late for coffee to be placed out Fresh cream/ milk would have been nice Bread for toast would have been a nice touch That said, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will return.

Decent boutique hotel but rather expensive for what you get. We had an enjoyable weekend stay here for a special occasion.

BUT, really nice boutique hotel at a lot less of the price. Not certain if the spa permits non-guests to access services.

We enjoyed cocktails in the parking lot and met some nice people visiting from Evergreen, CO. We love the atmosphere when you first arrive, with all of the chefs prepped in anticipation of the bustle of the first patrons arriving. We split the Rockefeller for a starter. It went great with the Markham Sauv Blanc!! We had the shrimp scampi over pasta--so ridiculously good, it should be illegal. We also had the sea bass which was tasty. The potatoes on the side are perfectly done every time. I would say a 4pm arrival is probably the right time to get in line. Worth the wait!!

Not worth the hype…read more We went to Sea Chest Oyster Bar last night. Honestly, it was extremely disappointing. The food was lackluster and bland. The Clam Chowder tasted like flour and needed salt. The Soy Ginger Mahi Mahi was presented with the Soy Ginger sauce on the side, rather than being cooked in. It was so bland you had to search for the flavor of the sauce. I'm not sure how a dish with soy needed more salt, but it certainly did. Rather than it being a reduction or the fish actually cooked in it, it was just flavorless. And don't get me started on my Halibut. All of the fish is cooked in butter, which should give it some flavor, but it did not. We are usually plate-cleaners, but we both ate only about half of our meal. Lackluster, boring, bland. I would say it was a one-note flavor, but you'd have to have some flavor for that to be true. The only positive I have about the fish is that it was fresh, so I guess there's something. The service was fine. I can imagine what it's like to have an entire restaurant sat at the same time, so there should be some forgiveness there. But for $200 for two people for one appetizer, two entrees, and three glasses of wine, I would expect to be able to get through the meal.

I do not eat seafood, therefore this review is based off of my group. My husband enjoyed the oysters stating they were fresh and sweet. My daughter loved the calamari. I was quite underwhelmed with the spicy tequila cream chicken pasta. I was told that the dish was very spicy. To me, there was barely a hint of heat to it. The flavors was lacking. I feel as if the sliced onions should be left out. Our friend ordered the cioppino and mentioned the same thing, the sliced onions made the dish taste a little off but otherwise delicious. The kids fusilli with Parmesan was ok. It was basically tossed in butter and she can add her own Parmesan. The rib eye came out medium well. We thought that maybe it was just the ends that were a bit more cooked, however, almost the entire steak was medium well. The only part that we didn't eat was looked to be medium. Although the steak was not cooked to our preferred temperature, it was very flavorful and tender. And we sure were hungry after a day of exploring. We ate nearly the entire plate. I didn't want to mention anything since we ate 90% of the plate, but our friend convinced us to bring it up to the server. And so I did, not wanting to anything to be done about it. We did nearly finish it. We also did not want to wait longer for the steak to be re-made. I paid for my tab and it was well under what I had expected the total to be. I scanned through the itemized receipt and realized that they took off the steak. I felt ashamed for even bringing it up since we basically ate it all. The cocktails were great. Not too watered down or too heavy with alcohol. The restaurant has an amazing view overlooking the Pacific Ocean and offers outdoor seating. The service is quick and everyone was very friendly. Will I came again? For sure. Just not for pasta.
