We've been to Cambria many times in the past, but this was our first time staying at Moonstone Cottages. We spent 4 nights in Seascape Cottage, and were SO impressed with the quaint ambiance, comfortable mattress, and close proximity to Moonstone Beach (directly across the road). We left the windows cracked open at night in order to hear the sounds of ocean waves crashing onto the rocks. The breakfasts were amazing, the hosts (located nearby at The Blue Dolphin Inn) were very friendly and accommodating, and the entire experience left us wanting more! We're very much looking forward to our next visit! read more

Traveling with your best fury child can be challenging. This advertised as a dog friendly accommodation and it certainly is. And, the best part, is it is located exactly across the road from the beach. Watching the sunset is amazing from the lawn sitting area. Unfortunately, we had to leave early and was unable to partake of their breakfast basket that everyone raves about. My only suggestion, is that if they can provide an early departure bag for those who are leaving early. We will definitely come back the next time we are in the area. read more

I stayed at Moonstone Cottages for one night (total cost: $364.50 with taxes) and was very disappointed. The room had a strong musty and moldy odor that made it hard to sleep, and the bedding was full of hair in different shades. The sheets themselves didn't look very clean, which was unsettling. The "free breakfast" was also very underwhelming-just small prepackaged juices and parfaits which is not what I'd expect for the price. For the cost of the stay, I expected a much higher level of cleanliness and comfort. read more

We stayed at the Seascape cottage. It is adorable however it smells strong like mold in the bathroom. The bed was uncomfortable with a big well in the middle of it. There was moldy scotch tape around the window in the bathroom. We called to have the microwave cleaned because the cleaning person forgot to clean it after the last guest. read more

We were delighted with our recent stay at the Moonstone Cottages! We stayed in cottage #2, Garden Gate and it was charming. Everything you need is here, just bring the romance. Soft fluffy robes and towels, roomy jacuzzi, good quality amenities, coffee/tea maker, dishes, glasses and silverware. Small refrigerator and microwave too. But since you're on vacation there is a conveniently located restaurant a few steps away. We spent time enjoying our beautiful view and strolling along the beach. This is definitely a home away from home with an amazing view and intimate local. Kudos Cambria Inns Collection for your superbly appointed rooms and your kind and personable staff. Charming little cottages. We stayed there for 3 nights in March 2022 and enjoyed it immensely. Very private, clean, quiet and cozy. There are 3 cottages and a little utilities building in the very back. We stayed in the middle cottage called The Garden. The cottages are right on Moonstone Beach Dr and just across the street from beautiful Moonstone Beach. There's a restaurant next door and another one just a few minutes drive away. Otherwise Main St Cambria is just a 5 minutes drive away. It was cold at night and we totally enjoyed the gas fireplace. Just remember to turn it off when you leave. The interior is circular with the bed in the center and fireplace towards the end of the bed. The bathroom was quite big with a shower and a hot tub. They provide a couple of thick bathrobes. Three windows with horizontal blinds allow lots of natural lighting while maintaining privacy. If you turn the blinds so the outside light points up, no one can see inside. Small frig, tv, coffee maker and utensils are provided in a cabinet next to bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. There's no daily maid service but we actually prefer it that way. They will deliver extra towels, coffee, etc. You select breakfast items and deliver time from a menu and they deliver in the morning. There's parking in the back. Pro Tip for parking - The driveway is narrow so when exiting, there's a little dirt road on the left side between the 2nd and 3rd cottage that allows you to go out without navigating through the narrow winding driveway. You'll understand what I mean once you look for it. Pro Tip #2 - At check in, ask for an extra luggage stand if you need 2 because they only have 1 in the room. I stayed here with my boyfriend for a quick weekend getaway! it's super cute! we had the cottage right in front and had 2 chairs right in front overlooking the ocean, where we sat and read, and enjoyed a bottle of wine. The cottage was cozy and the bathroom is quite spacious! The breakfast delivery in the AM was an extra touch that was appreciated. The only tricky part is parking - it can get quite narrow so I recommend being careful when pulling the car out. Other than that, I highly recommend staying at the Moonstone Cottages the next time you and your +1 are visiting Cambria! read more

We stayed in the back cottage, called the Mariner. It is certainly the best placed on the property, there are only 3 cottages. The one in front faces the street and in the summer I think would be very hot and loud. The one we had was also the handicap unit, so our tub was very small and the sink was microscopic to allow for a wheelchair. I was told that the jet tubs in the other two units (that I was hoping to get) were much bigger with a separate shower. Other than that it was a pretty perfect stay. They deliver you the breakfast each morning at the time you want and coffee and setups are in the room. Also, the microwave and fridge. The furnishings and decor are nice. It is a very small cottage and the Queen bed was a bit smallish for us as we are used to a King, so we have to take that into account. All in all, we would go back and probably try a different cottage. The prices were high even for off season, so for us, this is a special occasion place. We did enjoy it and it was so nice being able to see the ocean anytime we opened our shades. read more

We loved our second COVID-19 visits in June and July 2020. We love the safety of the standalone cottages, and will return, even when it is safer to travel and dine like before March 2020. You can charge your electric car at the Blue Dolphin, where you register and pick up your cottage key. There is a Tesla Destination charger and a generic one -- subject to availability for guests. Nice layout in The Mariner cottage, the farthest back of the three cottages, where we have stayed twice. It's listed as handicap accessible. We're not handicapped, but the bathtub might be hard to step into if you have mobility issues. There is a handicapped parking space at this cabin. All have nice views. We used the gas fireplace, wet bar, table and 2 chairs facing the ocean, large enough to have dinner or breakfast in suite. Super soft towels and bathrobes, thanks to the soft Cambria water. Amenities in the cottage: microwave, 'fridge, K-cup coffee maker with an ample selection of coffees and teas. Peanut butter and jams packs. Ceramic plates and coffee cups, real silverware and stemless wine glasses. A corkscrew. Complimentary breakfast bag, if authorities allow, which they did in late July 2020, but not in June. We've been visiting Cambria several times a year for over a dozen years, and stayed at most of the Moonstone Beach hotels, including the Blue Dolphin, affiliated with the cottages. I'd be hard pressed to stay anyplace else after experiencing the comfort and security this safe haven has been during this scary travel time. read more

These cottages are awesome! There is a group of three. They all have their own special view. The ocean is right across the street, with access to the board walk just a small walk away. To be able to open the door and drink your coffee, eat your breakfast on the front porch and listen and watch the ocean is amazing. I'm only sorry that our trip wasn't longer. I took away a star because we ordered our breakfast to come between 8-830am and it was very late. Other than that...it was great! read more

The love of my life and I decided to rent a convertible to drive the Pacific Coast Highway in what is now one of the most romantic things we've ever done together. One of the reasons it was so romantic is that we stayed at the Moonstone Cottages. It was Quaint and Charming, and due to the privacy, we weren't afraid to get a little naughty!! The fireplace inside kept us cozy, and the spa tub easily fit the two of us. We spent half the time in the tub, and the other half in bed. It was well furnished, and had a nice porch for us to sit in our supplied bathrobes during our breaks from just being naked, and watch the sun set over the ocean. Super Romantic. Next door there is a nice bar and grill, and the food is fantastic. There isn't much that is bad about this place, or Cambria in general. The only complaint I would have is that the cottage is not directly on the beach, but on the opposite side of the street. It doesn't detract much, but it's noticable. Nothing to be done about it, but there you are. Food is delivered to your door in the morning, and ours was good. Still might recommend the bar and grill for breakfast, but it's included and tasted good, so no complaints from me!! If you want a romantic getaway, this is the place! Price is a bit steep for a non 5 star room, but I'd stay here again!!! read more

Just lovely! We went to Cambria on a whim and booked the Mariner- the cottage in the back. It's not close enough to really hear the waves but the ocean breeze was nice. We ate next door- great service and good Food. The breakfast was so so, but nice that it was delivered on time. Comfy bed and the jacuzzi tub was fun- do NOT add bubble bath! My boyfriend and I stayed here to celebrate both our birthdays! It was super adorable and I loved all of the details. You checked in at Blue Dolphin Inn (about 6 properties away) and they had parking in the back - though the pathway is narrow & windy so no oversized vehicles. We loved how the cottages were its own building so you have a lot of privacy and no shared walls which is really nice. We stayed in the second cottage (Garden Gate) and had a porch with a view of the ocean. The ocean is on the otherside of the road...which is really a 30 second walk away. The bed was really comfy, and came with a bear friend that had its own little robe. They provided you with Kurig capsules (coffee & tea), water in the fridge, cookies, chocolates. The best part was the breakfast the next morning. You called in to day before to order what you'd like and they deliver it to you to your doorsteps. We did have a hiccup with our order, but they were able to give us some extra food to make it up. The jacuzzi tub was the best! It was big enough to fit both of us (and they even provided some bath salts) we got to enjoy the tub and put on fluffy bathrobes after. Overall it was really cute and romantic place to stay at. The amenities put it over the top, and we really wished we could have stayed longer. read more

Stayed here last year and it was wonderful. Booked for this year and it was runned down in just a year. The same cottage- Seascape. The bathroom smelled like mold and the bathroom window was broken and could not open. I had breakfast the first morning and it was good, the second morning it was skipped for some reason and the kitchen I was told was closed. No customer service at all. Manager Karen does not return phone calls or emails. Too bad-it used to be nice. read more

My husband and I wanted to take our 2-year old with us on a little family vacation and the cottages were a perfect fit for us. We stayed in the Mariner, which is the cottage at the very back of the lot. We had a great view of the ocean, but we couldn't hear it. Too far away, and the window at the front of our cottage only opened up a little bit. The three of us fit in the bed just fine, and we were far enough away from the other cottages that, had she made any noise, I very much doubt anyone would have heard. I got up early the next morning to make use of the jacuzzi tub, which was fantastic. They even included bath salts to use. Free breakfast was delivered at 8am and it was perfect portions for all of us, in fact, more than we could eat. Scrambled eggs, small danishes, scones, and yogurt with orange juice. My wife and I stayed here on our 1st Anniversary this past weekend. My only regret is spending only 1 night here (we were driving up the coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco). We stayed in the Seascape which is the 1st one nearest the street. We both found the cottage adorable. It was clean and comfortable. We cracked the windows open at night and slept to the sound of the ocean. Very relaxing stay. There's a Krup coffee maker in the room with various k-cups available and creamer in the small fridge. They delivered breakfast in the morning. The shower was comfortable and roomy and Jacuzzi bath tub in room was enjoyable. Aside from fridge and coffee maker the room is also equipped with a Fireplace, iron & ironing board, small table for two to enjoy breakfast. They also have free Wi-Fi. I would definitely come back and we're thinking of sending my in-laws here for their anniversary. The only negative thing I can say about this place is regarding the hot water. You'll need to let it run a good 5 minutes or so before it starts to heat up. Its a minor nuisance and not one that I would count against the 5 star rating. read more

Stayed in the Seascape cottage, which is closest to the street, so it has the best oceanfront view. My girlfriend and I stayed here for one night, and we loved it. Most importantly, it has a huge jacuzzi bath tub, and with enough hot water (even more important) to fill it up, twice! We took a bath at night and once again in the morning. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast was large and delicious. Really appreciated the small fridge, microwave, and chairs outside to look at the ocean and boardwalk. It was really nice to not share any walls with anyone, too. Felt really private. Parking is in the back, not too far away. Would definitely recommend this place to anybody. We stayed during the winter and received a discount for that reason. They also have cute souvenirs. Service was good. After we checked out, we enjoyed our walk on the boardwalk. Great cute getaway town. read more

Excellent, beautiful place to stay on Moonstone Drive. We stayed in the last cottage, the Mariner. Everything was adorable. The space is small but enough for both of us. We loved the robes and the slippers, the little sink in the living space and the small table where we had our breakfast. Speaking of which, the first day, breakfast was delivered almost 30 minutes late. Still, when it arrived, it was warm and delicious. French toast and the vegetable medley in a flour tortilla. The next day, it was pretty much on time. You order the breakfast before 8pm to be delivered at your door the next morning in a brown paper bag, to go style. The Moonstone medley in a puff pastry is really just a croissant stuffed with ham and eggs. Very good, though. The bathroom is quite loud. You can hear practically everything from the main living area. Those are the only real issues. Otherwise, our stay was perfect. read more

This is for great Customer service. I've always wanted to stay here as friends who have been highly recommended. Had a reservation for tomorrow we were very much looking forward to but just found out the Maria fire evacuation zone was just extended to 2 blocks from our house. Just can't feel comfortable leaving town and driving 2.5-3 hrs away and leaving our animals and important documents and possessions in case we have to evacuate soon. Called the manager and even though we missed the cancellation deadline they allowed us to cancel without a penalty. We will be booking here again as soon as this nightmare with fires is over. read more

I love this place! Definitely making this an anniversary tradition! My husband and I stayed in the Seascape (front cottage) for our 16th anniversary for one night. That was the only bummer. I wish we would've stayed for at least two. We enjoyed wine on the front porch while listening to the crashing of the ocean waves well after the lights of the restaurant a couple properties down went off. It was sooo romantic. The jacuzzi tub was big enough for the both of us to fit comfortably. The fireplace was a beautiful bonus in the setting of the mood. After enjoying some delicious takeout under the dimmed light, we fell asleep with the windows open. The cool breeze and sound of the ocean waves was amazing! Coffee on the front porch was the icing on the cake before we checked out! I'm looking forward to next year, God-willing, when we're out of this pandemic and able to enjoy the breakfast and complimentary anniversary cake I keep reading about on other reviews. Regarding breakfast, they do still drop off a medley of pre packaged breakfast like muffins, cheese, granola bar, etc. Great ocean views, quaint and charming! We had an awesome time at the Mariner cottage. It was clean and as nice as any good hotel. It is small but that wasn't an issue for us. I'm also a big breakfast guy so didn't expect the morning box breakfast to be much but was pleasantly surprised by a very good Canadian bacon, egg, and cheese pastry that was very satisfying. The seclusion of the back cottage is nice and we still got almost the same view of the ocean as the other cottages. Someone checked into the Garden Gate Cottage and didn't like it. He was an ass who would complain about everything and the jerk backed into my car when he tried to get out. If he posts a negative review, ignore it. Some people don't know how to appreciate good things. I would recommend this cottage to anyone who is not an ass. read more

Is there any way that I can permanently live in the Mariner cottage? My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights of our honeymoon and absolutely LOVED every second of it! The lady at the front desk was so very helpful and welcoming and really set the mood for our stay. Both of her restaurant recommendations ended up being a delicious choice, and she made sure we knew everything necessary to enjoy our stay. The cottage itself had a nice sized bathroom with a jetted spa tub [not oversized unfortunately], a comfy bed, fireplace, breakfast nook, and amazing ocean views that you would not expect at first. We couldn't get our in room Keurig machine to work, but in the scope of things this wasn't a big deal. Make sure you call your breakfast order in the night before. You will wake up to a knock on the door and a delicious bag of goodies to eat at the time you specify. My personal favorite was the sea gift [bagel and cream cheese with lox] Leaving was the only down side of our stay in the Mariner Cottage. Our second stay and it was fabulous. This time it was for my 40th bday (last time was her 45th) and I couldn't have asked for more. We stayed in Seascape, which is the front cottage. I HIGHLY recommend this one because you get to fall asleep and wake up to the sound of waves crashing on the beach. So perfect for you and your special someone to have some alone time. Came to Cambria, again, for my husband's two night birthday getaway and decided to try something new and loved it! We stayed in the Garden Gate cottage and will definitely return again. Next time hopefully we can stay in the front cottage, the Seascape, although we had a nice view of the ocean from our own porch. Love how these detached cottages make it seem like you're in your own little house. There's only three so it's a nice quiet private area. From the fire place to the huge jacuzzi tub, our getaway was so relaxing in an already relaxing city, Cambria. Comfortable bedding, cozy decor, well stocked water, coffee & tea and a surprise birthday cake for hubby! Loved having the complimentary breakfast delivered to our front door. Loved our porch and the direct view to the ocean. Loved having the boardwalk right across the street. Convenient to have the Moonstone Bar & Grill right next door. I stayed there with my wife for our honeymoon a few weeks ago. It was a lovely experience. I was expecting the cottage to be TINY after view pictures on-line, but was surprised to see it was rather comfortably sized. The front office (in the Blue Dolphin Inn just down the street) was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, and they even had a few DVDs we could borrow. Room-service left cookies for us every morning, and the bottled water in the fridge was complimentary! I've oohed and awed so many times in the past, driving by these adorable cottages on Moonstone beach. In October, stayed next door at the Castle Inn and got a buy one night/get one night free coupon for their other properties, which included these cottages. Made it very affordable at $250 for our two-night stay. We stayed in the Garden Cottage, the one in the middle. Loved that we still had an ocean view, but didn't have the traffic noise or foot traffic that the front cottage has. Was surprised to have a lovely breakfast delivered each morning. My only complaint, thought minor, is that the bed is a queen and not a king. If you get an opportunity to stay here, it's wonderful. read more

This is seriously the cutest little spot on Moonstone Beach. The cottages are adorable and well laid out with everything you could need for a brief stay. There's a coffee machine, mini fridge, and microwave in the room. They bring a nice simple breakfast each morning to your door step (probably my favorite part)! In our cottage, the bathroom was mainly made up of the jacuzzi tub but there's also a small standup shower. From our cottage we could see the ocean from the window or front porch. The boardwalk is less than a 2 minute walk from the cottage with the most beautiful sights to see. The beach is just below the boardwalk and is probably a lovely place to spend time during warmer months. A couple things to note, they really do mean 3pm or after for checkin. We couldn't get into our room until a little after 3pm. Having never been to Cambria before we were surprised to learn that most establishments (restaurants and little shops) don't accept credit card. So bring your cash! Also, there's very few restaurants in Cambria and the ones with high rating have 2 hour+ wait times for a weekend dinner. Go early or expect to wait. Cambria is also experiencing a severe drought and water is not offered many places. Pack some water with you if you're a water hound like me. read more

Stayed here last week for our 25th wedding anniversary. We were in Mariner. This is a nice, quaint, very clean little cottage set to the rear of the three. We love Cambria and have stayed at FogCatcher and Blue Whale Inn. We really enjoyed how quiet this little cottage is. There is a view from the front window but if the vacant property next door is ever developed this will disappear. It was 2 doors down from our favorite restaurant on Moonstone. Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill. When reading these reviews, I prefer the Pro/Con method so I will use this here: Pros: Lupe greeted us upon arrival to the Blue Dolphin Inn (Seperate but affiliated, and you must check in here.) She was very pleasant and welcoming as were all of the employees. Cottage is roomy inside, well laid out and lots of comforts and conveniences. Its bigger than it looks. Decent view even though it is set far back off the street Very clean! Impressive since it is several years old. Does not feel that way. they take pride in their property. Breakfast was tasty and a bit larger than expected, and delivered to our room in "to go" packaging in case you want to go to the beach. Bottled water free in the fridge. Cookies and chocolates nightly. Comfy robes and slippers available in room. Keurig coffee makers (Not a fan but still nice touch) Cons: You are on your own to get to, and into the cottage. Upon opening the door, the room was blacked out. No curtains open. No light coming in. It was very chilly and the fake fireplace was not even turned on. Felt like we were a bit unwelcomed at a vacant cottage. Not a huge deal but could have been warmer and more welcoming. You order your breakfast the night before by calling a phone number. They tell you it will be delivered within 15 minutes of your arranged time. We asked for 8:30am. At 8:50 it had not arrived. We called the number again and were told that 8 people had ordered breakfast for 8:30. Wow, 8 people...really? Is that a lot? and we were last on the delivery chart for the overworked delivery guy. It came 15 minutes later. (9:05) And the hot breakfast was now luke-warm at best. The bed was VERY loud. Just sitting on it let out a very loud springy twang and metal on metal grind. Moving on it at night made for interesting sounds from the frame. Lets just say Im glad these are individual cabins. We let them know via a survey. Hopefully that will be fixed upon your arrival. Some smaller, more minor things that we dealt with such as no replacement paper coffee cups for our morning coffee, the seating out front is fit for 1 1/2 people and since I came with another whole person it was not conducive to use as a relaxing sitting area, etc...picky picky, I know. All in all we enjoyed our stay here and do recommend it. If you are looking for a quiet getaway, Cambria is your place and Moonstone Cottages should be in your top 5...they are for us. I spent months dreaming about this place and they didn't let me down. The cottages are so cute and comfortable. I loved every minute of my stay. They have a guest book signed by people who stayed before which has some good tips like going to the The Bluff trail at the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. I loved the picnic breakfast- if you are staying more than one day don't forget to reorder breakfast before 8pm. I loved the bed, the bathrobes and the cute little bear who also had a bathrobe! They had a cake waiting for us when we arrived (we were celebrating two birthdays) and it was so delicious. I loved everything about the cottages and I cannot wait to go back someday. read more

Oh my...where to begin?! I can't say enough positive things about Moonstone Cottages! When I made reservations I mentioned it was our anniversary and could they recommend places for dinner, Jill (guest service host) promptly had several recommendations which was greatly appreciated and when we arrived to our room we were surprised with a beautiful little cake waiting for us congratulating us on our anniversary. We stayed in the Mariner, which is in the back away from the road, it was immaculate & beautiful! Loved having a jet tub, hardwood floors (no nasty carpet), fireplace, wifi, fresh cookies and all of the amenities needed already there. The bed & pillows were very comfortable and waking up to that beautiful view of the ocean can never get old! Love the fact that these are cottages and not hotel rooms, you don't have the noise of someone walking above you or slamming doors. We got to choose from many selections what we would like for breakfast and the time we would like it delivered! That's right!! YOU choose what you want and the time you want it!! What more could you ask for?! And it wasn't just pastries & juice! It was scramble eggs with Canadian bacon, fresh fruit, scones, juice, etc. We will definitely stay here again!! read more

My husband and I stayed in the Garden Gate cottage for our first night as a married couple and we could not have had a better experience!! The cottage is beautiful and comfortable, the fireplace and jacuzzi tub are amazing. We loved the comfy bathrobes and the complimentary breakfast of your choice delivered straight to your door at a time of your choosing. To top it all off, when we arrived there was a small cake in the room from the staff to celebrate our marriage. Everyone in the office when we checked in and out knew who we were and wished us luck in our lives. What a thoughtful, kind group of people and what a luxurious experience.
