Not the typical strip-mall "bar" I've passed by this place hundreds, if not thousands of times without a care, because I thought it was just another one of those "sports bars" that pops up in this area that last for a year, then end up on that show Bar Rescue. Not this place. A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go, and I was a little apprehensive at first for the reasons just noted. His words were something along the line of "It's good, and the food is good". I figured I could separate myself from a few dollars, and grab a beer and some food. When we arrived, it was pre-rush "happy hour" time, which helped and then people started flooding in, which was a nice sight on a weeknight. The food isn't your typical bar-type foods, but they have that stuff if you are so inclined. I chose to venture off the beaten path and try something different. Not bad. Not bad. The beer selection leaves a little to be desired, but I can't fault them entirely because I have specific tastes that most people don't like, but it would definitely help me return quicker ;). That being said, the clean, and updated motif is nice and it's really convenient for myself and said friend. It's also a nice little nook to let traffic kill itself during the evenings while we enjoy a decent meal. I'll be back, and maybe bring the ladyfriend. read more

Decided to try this place after looking at their menu online....big mistake. 75% of the online menu was not on the menu given to us when we sat down. The strawberry basil martini tasted like rubbing alcohol - even my boyfriend that will drink anything was gagging. The marinara sauce was 90% onion and 10% water. I think we saw our waitress 3 times in the 80 minutes we were here. The only saving grace was the food coming out quickly and hot. Other than that, we would have been better off walking to the Publix at the other end of the plaza and making our own dinner. read more

Windward Tavern is on my regular rotation! When my husband has his guys night out, I have my "me time" out at Windward Tavern. The service is top notch, the food and drinks are delish, and the atmosphere is welcoming. I take a book, have a beverage, and enjoy my me time. I highly recommend the Ruby Red Cosmo and the delectable fish tacos w/sweet potato fries. My second fave is the short ribs....yum yum! They have special desserts each week...my fave are the churros. If you are looking for a neighborhood eatery that is locally owned and operated, I suggest you give them a try. read more

WAIT A MINUTE!! DID YOU JUST SERVE ME A BOWL OF CHICKEN SOUP WITH A LARGE CRACKER AND CALL IT A POT PIE? OH YES YOU DID AND THAT IS NOT OK! This was my first visit to Windward Tavern and it was memorable for all the wrong reasons. My husband and I went in for an early dinner. The menu was very limited, (I never order soups, salads or sandwiches so they don't really count), so I settled on the pot pie because I was very hungry and wanted something substantial to eat before continuing on with my activities. My husband ordered a reuben sandwich with french fries. Our food was delivered quickly but imagine my surprise when I realize that someone has taken a beautifully prepared cup of soup, poured into a nice dish and placed a very large cracker over the top, (see the photos). As an "old school" cook who would not normally order a pot pie in a restaurant, I was trying to be "open" and take a risk. I was keenly aware of the crust being on the top only, but that is the only concession that I was willing to make. It was absolutely NOT my intention or desire to order a $12 cup of soup. Nor did I expect to go out for a meal and leave hungry. I actually had to leave and go to another restaurant for a more substantial meal. That should never happen! Someone really needs to rethink the chicken soup masquerading as a pot pie. Just put it in on the appetizer menu and call it what it is: Chicken Soup! Regarding my husband's reuben sandwich, it was well prepared and he really enjoyed it. SERVICE The waiter was nice and did his job but he was a little flat for my taste. I prefer someone who is more animated and engaging. We did have a couple of owner/manager members stop by the table and inquire about the meal and I chose not to address the food issue because it really would have been pointless. What could they possibly say? "We didn't think you'd notice". I am ambivalent about a possible return simply because I can't trust that I will get a satisfying meal. Lunch may be an option sometime down the road but you had better believe that I will eat before I go! By the way, they really need to invest in a good water filter. 12/26/15 After considering my experience at this restaurant, I decided that two stars are more appropriate because I did not receive what I ordered and was over-charged for what I did receive. Also, water is always my beverage of choice when dining out so it needs to have a very clean taste. This water did not. Bottom line, prices are just not justified. Not recommended! read more

Windward Tavern is literally next door from my job. Definitely a descent place to hang out with coworkers and friends. As far as the food goes, it can either be a hit or a miss. I love their queso dip with jalapeños, and their chicken quesadilla is also very good. I had ordered once before fish and chips which I was pretty excited about but was very disappointed with the taste because I've had better. As far as customer service, that's also a "hit or miss" situation. Sometimes they mess up your orders multiple times. As far as ambiance goes, like I mentioned before it can be a good place just to hang out. This joint has a nautical theme. It's pretty cute. The bar area has live entertainment certain days of the week, so it gets pretty lively . Windward Tavern is still sort of a new establishment , they just need to work on the little things and this place will be good to go. read more

We started going to the tavern in December, 2015. We have been about 10 times in 2 months. The food is great quality and seasoned well. I love the calamari for an appetizer and the fish and chips for an entree! The staff in the main main dining area is very attentive and friendly. The managers seem very aware and concerned when something goes wrong with an order. Overall A+ read more

Avast me Hearties! This place has a nautical theme and you will look beyond it to the food and service-both of which are excellent! It is the sister Tavern to the Crabapple Tavern in Alpharetta and both are five star. The Sunday brunch is wonderful and their hamburgers are the stuff of legends. We have tried almost every dish on the menu over our many years of dining at the Alpharetta location and EVERYTHING is good! The menu has something for everyone-from salads to desserts-and the Sunday Brunch cocktails are awesome. The service is fast, caring and friendly-you know they care about you and your experience. Our party was for 5 people. French onion soup was good, turkey burger not tasty, we also ordered a turkey club without tomato and it came w tomatoes and no bacon. The blue cheese chips were good. Chicken wings were ok. Waiter didn't bring us straws, we had to ask three times and we got them with naked hands.The manager talked to us and comped the turkey club price so that was a plus! People really seemed to like this place while we were there. I was not a fan of the menu. It's southern food, very heavy if you are trying to be healthy. The bar looked fun, but the restaurant is a little too open and without great atmosphere. I had a salad with asian dressing which was good, and the ribs which were just average. All the veggies are cooked with tons of butter which was a turn off for me. Service was good, and my margarita yummy. Truthful review must read. Atmosphere: They aren't kidding when they have the name Windward Tavern. It's extremely cozy and comfortable sitting in this restaurant you don't want to leave. Massive wooden beams above you with a central dual fireplace. Lighting is perfect and I can actua lly see what I am eating. Food: Burgers are absolutely top notch, steaks always come out the way I want them and everything else is flat out fantastic. Service: This is where it gets a little bit rough but not bad enough where it brings down a star. The service is slightly slow compared to other restaurants like Ruth Chris' Steakhouse or even Pampas. It's a large restaurant with a few waiters and waitresses but it could be a little faster. Hire two more and it will be perfect. Attitudes: Everyone is friendly and welcoming and are always happy to serve you. No one is sad or disrespectful either, everyone is happy to work there. Parking: Large parking lot you will always find a place to park no worries. Wait times: It is recommended to reserve a seat just in case it's busy and you have to wait 45 minutes. But that's the case with most fancy restaurants these days. Cleanliness: Bathrooms are always clean, tables are never sticky and there isn't any crap on the floor or the chair. OVERALL: A great place to eat if you have the money for it. Food is on point but the service lacks a little. I would recommend going if you're looking for some great food and a great time. read more

This place is insanely good. I wanted to wait to give them a review after I have been there a few times. Have had their fish and chips, grouper sandwich and Rueben - all three at three separate times were perfect. Their sweet potato fries are perfect in my opinion. The cleanliness, presentation and service is all excellent. They run a tight ship and seem to be strict with quality. I am going to try to post pictures next time. I appreciated the opportunity for outdoor dining during COVID, so that was a win. It was absolutely pouring down rain and we were nice and dry while we ate. Food was what you'd expect from a casual, sports bar/dining establishment. Nothing spectacular but certainly good. Where we had issues was with service. It started with them being slow to tale our order despite the fact is was 5:15 and not crowded. My husband requested that they replace his side (Brussels spouts) for Cole slaw. When served he got the Brussels. He pointed it out to the server who said he would take care of it right away. Unfortunately, he got his slaw once he was nearly finished with his meal. I ordered a blackberry jalapeño margarita. When I got it, it was waaaaay too spicy. When I asked the server to try and fix it he started by reminding me it had jalapeños in it. I had to push on him to take it back to the bar and try to fix it. He did put it in a bigger glass and added some more syrup which made it drinkable. and when he brought it back he said the bar tender was new and she followed the recipe which called for 5 or 6 jalapeños, not the 1-2 they typically use. So I paid $10 for a cocktail that was improperly made and just okay. read more

Took our family to this great restaurant. I had the French onion soup, which was the best I have had in a long time. Also had a reunion sandwich that was loaded with pastrami. I love the WT. Food is constantly delicious and fresh. They have bar food but also have lots of healthier options. I love the salmon on any salad.
