A few positives. Server was pretty good. Ice tea was good. Place was dead and we figured out why. Food was marginal at best. Steak in tacos was tough to chew. Way better tacos at the gas station by me for 1/3 the cost. Taco meat is pretty bland. Beans and rice were ok. Chicken in burrito had absolutely nothing on it. It was just plain unseasoned chicken. Went there because they had talamaes. Apparently they were out and we were the first ones there. No one else in the place but manager too busy shooting the sh.. with everyone to come by and say anything. This was really disappointing and I won't be back. Probably won't go to there sister restaurant next door anymore either. It was terrible on Mother's Day . read more

The only mistake I made by coming here was eating before I came. We had a ball! The restaurant is beautiful! There was a live band playing and someone messed up and gave us a tambourine and some maracas. That is when the party really started! They have a very extensive menu. I wasn't that hungry but wanted to try something so so got the lamb chops with a Jose Margarita and Mata Tropical that came in a cute glass. The lamp chops were tender and flavorful. Went for some drinks with friends, margaritas to be specific. I had the mango and a peach margarita, I wanted it mixed but they don't let you mix the flavors for some reason. I was charged extra for the different flavors as well. I was hungry and ordered the seafood burrito. I asked for the sauce on the side, and glad I did because it was not good! Just tasted like heated oil no flavor. The burrito had shrimp, fish (not sure the kind), and calamari which didn't taste cooked all the way. I had to add the salsa to give it some flavor. I honestly would not suggest this. The place was not busy and next door to Starbucks. The only thing I would recommend would be the drinks - margaritas. read more

Stopped by Tarahumata for lunch and was definitely impressed! The menu is typical for a Mexican grill restaurant, but the steak fajitas I ordered were cooked perfectly. The rice and beans were great as well. Guacamole was fresh and flavorful. Service was decent. There's plenty of seating inside, but it looks like they do take out orders as well. My office in Alpharetta is across the street and I needed a place to hangout on a Wednesday night until Mark could drive from his office on Lavista to get me. United BMW had shuttled me to work in the morning but was unable to pick me up plus they were waiting on parts to service my car, so I was stranded. When I crossed the street I noticed that the majority of restaurants were either closed for dinner by 8pm such as Mellow Mushroom or simply no longer serve dinner. Tara Humana was the only place open late enough to give me a a place to eat and wait for Mark. I was warmly greeted when entering and they seated me at a booth in the bar area. On Wednesday nights they have live music. I was concerned that it would be too loud or that the music would not be my taste however it turned out to be awesome! Lots of great classic rock plus soft rock from the 60s and 70s. The volume was perfect and made it still possible for conversations. Service was super friendly and efficient the duration of our visit. My shrimp tacos were delicious and the shrimp were large and cooked perfectly. Presentation was pretty. The rice was delicious. Mark loved the chicken enchiladas with rice. Our margaritas were balanced and delicious. My one small critique is that the charro beans served with my meal contained small bits of pork which are a deal breaker for me. I am pescatarian with an emphasis on vegan and vegetarian diet. I looked back at the menu and it doesn't identify the beans contain pork. Had I known in advance I would have chosen an alternative. The bathrooms were clean and stocked with paper products. Parking is free and spacious and Mark had an easy time finding a space for our 4Runner. We had a surprisingly great time here and remarked to each other that we felt like we enjoyed a great concert at Chastain but without the hassles and expense. We recommend this place!! read more

We've tried this restaurant around 2-3 times over the 10 plus years we've lived in Alpharetta - each time forgetting why we do not frequent. While it definitely presents well from the outside, the food and service leave a lot to be desired. The basic chips and salsa (typically a staple and most Mexican restaurants) could definitely be improved as the chips were stale and salsa absent of flavor. I attempted to order a top shelf, Texas margarita only to be told they do not make Texas margaritas (allowing you to call your tequila) from scratch and I could only chose between a rocks or frozen version of their premade batch. Pretty insane position given you're in the service industry AND accommodating a simple customer request like this would provide an opportunity for the restaurant to up charge for a more premium tequila and, most importantly, keep their customers satisfied. In addition, the restaurant was extremely understaffed leading to long wait times between waitstaff checkins...this was with the restaurant side completely empty and about 5-7 folks sitting at the bar. read more

We walked in and was greeted immediately and sat down for lunch. A lot of business people come here for lunch, so this is just my review during this time. The menu is fairly simple, normal Mexican dishes with a few on the back for lunch. All lunch menu items are $7.75. Our service was great and he was attentive. We got our drinks quickly, and food also very quickly. All our food tasted fresh, chips and salsa was good also. Plenty of servers to meet the needs of the parties there. It's a nice place with pretty decor. You can have bigger parties or smaller. The booth are comfortable. Plenty of parking. I'd love to come back. read more

Second time going was during dinner and the menu is slightly different but the food was great all the same. They also had a live band playing some late 90s early 2000s tunes. We had no issues getting seated and a Friday evening. Parking was more on the limited side as the parking lot is not that big and it is shared with other businesses. We used to come here all the time, but the food and service has gone downhill over the years. The server we had was new which is fine, but wasn't very warm or attentive. Never asked if we wanted another drink, if we wanted water, didn't even acknowledge one of us needed a soda refill until after our meal, didn't ask if we'd like dessert and we were celebrating a birthday, and even dropped off the check unprompted and walked away. No offer of a box for our left overs so we waited around a bit, but they never came back so we just left without our food. My dad got the Camarones el delirio, which personally I thought was awful. My bf got the orden de carnitas which he said was over cooked & dry. 3 stars because I got the tacos de langosta and really enjoyed them. We also got the cheese dip and it was not worth getting. The salsa was bland. The chips were stale. The spicy margarita was good, but this is the second time I've been and they've been out of pineapple juice for the pineapple spicy marg so I was kind of disappointed. The food was good. Service was quick. Ample parking. Clean bathrooms. Pricing and business practice is the reason for 2 stars. My husband asked for extra tortillas with his $23 Molcajete Texan. He also asked for some some spicy salsa and cilantro. When we got the bill there was a charge for each of the items. $1.50 spicy salsa $1.50 cilantro $1.00 tortillas We like Mexican food and have tried many many places. We have never been charged at other restaurants before. Our bill pretax was $57.85, so it wasn't like we came in and filled up on chips. Truthfully, if they told us the charge we would have said ok. The problem is at no time was there mention of upcharge by the waitress or printed anywhere on the menu. I contemplated giving 3 stars but in the end the business practice is shady. read more

Stopped by for a weekend "date" afternoon. It was a Sunday and the restaurant was empty. We were seated promptly and quickly given chips, salsa and water. I ordered the organic margarita and it was yummy but a tad too sweet for my taste. We also ordered the queso with jalapeños which was tasty. I settled on the seafood burrito which included calamari, shrimp and tilapia. It was covered with a lobster sauce that was quite flavorable and topped with sautéed spinach with white rice on the side. I enjoyed it but next time I would order the lobster sauce on the side. By pouring it over the burrito, it became a little soggy. Overall, I like the atmosphere and varied menu at Tara Humata. I think it would be a great option for Friday evening cocktails and appetizers. read more

Have visited Tara Humata a handful of times over the years, and have never really understood the hype. The past couple times I've visited, however, have been excellent: great atmosphere, great prices, and great service. I'm starting to understand why people love it so much, and will definitely be back. ATMOSPHERE: This is what really sets Tara Humata apart from other Tex-Mex places. The restaurant is gorgeous- large hanging lanterns, colorful artwork, fancy columns...even the bar area is pretty, with multicolored lights and decorative liquor bottles. I wish I could have taken pictures that would do it justice! The restaurant is essentially split into two halves: main dining area on one side and bar + more intimate seating on the other. They often have live music on the bar side, which can be heard throughout the restaurant. FOOD: Prices are super reasonable, chips & salsa are delicious, and the menu has just about every Tex-Mex dish you could want. Their tacos aren't all that impressive, but the chicken fajitas are the bomb (large portion size, perfectly-cooked chicken and veggies). There aren't any particularly unique dishes, but I usually stick to the basics at these types of places anyway. SERVICE: Service has been hit or miss over the years, but I've been really impressed with our friendly, attentive servers the past few visits. read more

Strangest Mexican Food Takeout Experience Ever, happened yesterday 06/21/19. Ordered a beer while waiting for my $50 worth of take out; made the mistake of asking for an extra salsa (takeout salsa is in little 4 ounce containers) just to have the guy jump down my throat saying, "I already gave you 4 salsas! We dont give out salsa usually with take out orders!". Really? No salsa for take out orders? I gave him a $5 tip for bringing me a beer, taking my order, and handing me my take out bags? I left the tip on the check; did I mention it was about 4pm on a Friday, wasn't even busy, and this guy is willing to lose a regular customer over extra salsa? He literally yelled at me when he said it, and the funniest part was getting home and realizing he only gave me 3 salsas, not the 4 he jumped down my throat for. read more
