We had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon. The place was not crowded so we sat in the bar area. Our server was good and quite attentive. We started with an appetizer of the fried zucchini. It was perfectly fried with a good homemade ranch dressing for a dipping sauce. Next our table split a dozen raw oysters. They were chilled and quite tasty. They were big and fresh. For an entree we split the Cobb salad and our friends split the blackened fish. Both orders they split into two servings for us. Nice touch. Overall a great dining experience. read more

The wife and I came on a Saturday afternoon for fish and chips. It was our first visit. I saw three separate dining areas: Outdoor, dining room with TVs, bar area with TVs and another dining room without TVs. We decided to sit in the quieter dining room with booths and tables and no TVs. I could hear 60s, 70s and 80s music but it didn't override our conversation. it looked like a good menu but we came for fish and chips. The extensive beer menu also included Guinness draft. I'm on that and the bartender pulled it perfectly. Danielle was there at just the right times to see what we might need. My only picky-picky was the batter on the fish. To my mind it needs to be crispier to withstand the malt vinegar and not get soggy. read more

We are weekly diners and had a very disappointing dinner. For some reason martinis could not be served in martini glasses, chicken was tough, not the usual springer chicken we've had before. The food at Windward Tavern is pretty good, but there isn't much for vegeterians--even the salads come with chicken or gyro meat. The spicy potato hash--made with red pepper cream and jalapenos--is really good but has ground beef in it. The menu isn't really coherent--Greek salad, hot dogs, chicken wings, Ahi tuna--but rather includes a variety of dishes from different cuisines. Fun dinner place. Our waiter Kyle was really good. I expected it to be super noisy but there was no band on a Saturday night so we could have a conversation. Update: I liked this place so much the first time, I took my mom there and she liked it too. Jessica was our waitress. Very friendly, personally and gave great service. Mom had the meatloaf, portions are huge!!! Enough for two people. It's a mixture of ground beef, veal and other ingredients. Mom likes gravy, had to ask for more. Needed it for the mashed potatoes. I had the snapper with crab on top. Delicious!!! Not fishy and the crab cake was really really good. Maybe they have crab cake entrees??? I'll have to ask next time. The onion rings were light and crisp, a bit greasy but no problem. The spicy ranch had a nice kick to it! The fish was breaded pretty heavily and felt a bit over cooked at the ends. It tasted kind of bland as well- there was more spice and flavor on the onion rings! The fries on the side were soggy and plain, I stopped chowing down on them after the first 2. The portion sizes were very generous but the fish and chips comes with no coleslaw. Not a fan of coleslaw, but it tends to be a staple with fish n chips, just odd that it felt missing? The waiter was very patient with deciding orders and knowledgable about the menu and the decor was lovely! Overall, I just think perhaps it was an off day and someone forgot to season the fish and maybe the fries were left in a bit too long. I've heard great things about Windward Tavern so I took my dad there for his 82nd birthday lunch. Marina is fantastic. She took such great care of us. She went the extra mile making my dad feel special on his birthday. We couldn't finish our food. Great portions. I know they give large portions when my dad gives me two of his large fried shrimp. Ha I had the grouper salad and salad. Both were very tasty. Dad got the fried shrimp with broccoli and sweet potato fries and it looked very fresh and tasty. The restaurant was also very clean so we will be back... soon! Do yourself a favor and mosey up to Marina's bar and get your lunch on. Very nice experience. read more

Many choices always accommodating on changes or substitution's, We tried many of the menu items and have never been disappointed. It is our weekly Sunday brunch stop after church. I visited here for a happy hour with coworkers. I can't really vouch for the food here because I didn't eat, but I can say that they did have a very extensive menu and a variety of items to choose from. Upon first entering, I was really surprised to see that a restaurant of this caliber would be tucked away in a shopping center. We had bar seating which provided a good amount of seating for the amount of ppl we had at our happy hour. I was a little unimpressed that they didn't have a happy hour menu or any specials at all since this place seemed to be popular amongst business folk in the area. Being that it is inside of a shopping center there is ample parking and the ambiance throughout the restaurant is very nice. This is my 2nd review of Windward Tavern coming a couple years or so after my original. I took a break from the Tavern for a while as I burnt myself out when it opened and for a year or so after that. However, I've recently started going again and my past couple of visits have been 5-star. If anything, they've only gotten better. John is a great manager, and the staff in general is experienced and personable. Low turnover here! The food is consistently great. I've had nearly everything on the standard menu since its opening, and I've enjoyed I'd say 90% of those meals. I've lived in the area for a long time, and other places struggle with consistency of quality. Also,the Tavern has unique options you're not going to find at other local spots. They have a seafood theme so they order in fresh seafood from out of state and keep these options rotating. Their kitchen staff does a remarkable job with these ingredients. They don't overdo it. The dishes are concise in their presentation and rather simple, but flavorful and consistent. For example, the Fried Gator Bites I got during my last visit were served over a simple coleslaw with a side of remoulade and a sweet chili sauce for dipping. No theatrics. Just good food with fair portions! I pointed out to John how I tried another spot locally and how their fries fell short due to being too oily. He commented this is likely due to not changing out fryer oil on a scheduled basis. Their beer selection is broad enough but again they aren't overdoing it here. 20 taps or so with a mix of domestics, craft beer, and local craft beer. The local Medlock IPA I tried was fantastic. I firmly believe they keep their keg lines clean, which adds value when trying these higher end beers. It's a clean establishment that has a solid staff and is consistently good. This is a reflection of good management, training, and experience. I'm always confident when I go here and want a good pub experience. I can't say the same for other restaurants that offer similar menus in the area. I'll definitely be watching some college football here on Saturdays this fall! Also they do live music usually on the weekends. And their patio is dog friendly! Windward Tavern checks a lot of boxes for me. This is an amazing local bar and eatery. We've been coming here for years and it is our favorite "go to'. All of the food is wonderful, and the staff is amazing and attentive. Try the daily fresh fish specials with risotto and you will also love the burgers, big salads and bar bites. We adore our regular bartender, Jenny, and we couldn't be happier with this bar and grill. We have never been here before, but this is a fantastic place to go. The atmosphere is wonderful and the servers are absolutely fantastic at what they do. Our server recommended phenomenal drink options as well as food choices and this continued all the way through to desert which was a fanciful seven layer cake. The bottom layer seem to be soaked in some sort of alcohol - and it was absolutely delightful. Three of us had steaks and one of us have a chicken dish and we all tried either a salad or the soup. The French onion soup was an absolute winner with several of us at the table, and I would highly recommend it again. There's a drink that was modeled after the orange dream sickle and it was served up in martini style. You should definitely make it a point to visit this restaurant if you happen to be in the area or if you live in town and just wanted someplace new to try.
