Never showed up. They even called to confirm earlier in the day, and they strung me along on the phone for an hour after my move was supposed to begin. (I had a strict two-hour window to move into a downtown Chicago highrise.) Promises of "the crew is on their way" and "the crew will be calling you any second now." Three or four phone calls full of promises, all broken. Stear clear of these guys. Moves are stress-filled as it is...you don't want to have to worry about the crew showing up. read more

So amazing! I moved out of a third flood apartment with no elevator and a spiral staircase. I have no idea how these guys managed to clear out my entire apartment and load it into my uhaul, but they managed to do it in about 45 minutes! They didn't walk up the stairs between trips, they ran. Carried tons of boxes at once and took great care with my heavier furniture and had no damage to anything! Windy City Helpers turned what was potentially a nightmarish moving experience into a near breeze. I scheduled and then rescheduled my move at the last minute due to changing dates on the completion of construction at my new address; I was accommodated with no problem both times. I moved from a 2nd/3rd floor duplex up unit to a third floor unit, with two additional stops to drop off furniture to friends in between. Between the loading at the duplex and the unloading at the other three locations, the job took 6 hours. Gonzalo and crew did not complain or slow down once despite the steep climb to the third floor at the final destination with all the heavy boxes (I have a ton of books) and furniture. In addition, they had great attitudes and smiles throughout the night, it felt like I was moving with the help of friends. Gonzalo also offered me the use of his pickup truck to take some items that were too small/delicate for the U-Haul but more than I could take in my small sedan in one trip, this saved me a lot of time. My boyfriend and I used WCH this past weekend to load our UHaul with all of his stuff. Gabriel and Charlie came right on time and ready to roll up their sleeves and start working. They helped us pack up what we hadn't yet finished, as well as strategically filled the truck so everything was safe and snug. They were incredibly efficient, really respectful of all of our belongings, super helpful, and professional while still being fun. I am moving in January and will definitely be calling them. I've moved over six times in this city, and this company was leaps and bounds ahead of the rest, I only wish I'd heard of them sooner. Last Monday Charlie, Steven and Edgar moved my son from an elevator to a second floor walk up. They were prompt, courteous, friendly and efficient and called when on their way. They arrived with 4 dollies, but unfortunately no tools, which was only a problem at the very end when the bed frame bolts needed loosening with a 1/2"wrench and we didn't. have one. Had we had the tool we still would have gone over the two hours by a little, but not 1 1/2. Also two standing lamps broke in transit...and even with all that, I would still recommend them read more

These guys are incredible. Not only did they work with our very limited schedule (even though they had a busy day ahead of them), they were early, eager to help, and extremely thorough. They were some of the most professional people whom we have had into our home from electricians, plumbers, contractors, etc. These guys were amazing. Any time I will need to move in the future I will use them every time. Also - these guys get a huge portion cut from companies like U-haul and they bust their butts all day long. Tip them extra, pay for their parking, and make sure they are taken care of. You won't regret booking them. As for the owners- charge more. I used Windy City Helpers this past weekend and they were great. I booked them 6 days in advanced and they could accommodate my move no problem. Huge plus for them. Edgar and Isaiah were my helpers. They showed up on time and got right to work. They were kind, professional and managed to get my 2 bedroom apartment in to a very undersized 10ft truck. The only small issue is when I called it was a verbal agreement that helped would be available on my move. I was told the day before the move someone would contact me and they didn't. So I reached out to them and got another verbal confirmation that helpers would be there. May be it is my type A personality but an automated text or email confirming would have eased some anxiety I was having over weather I had helpers or not. Overall they are great! read more

During the move, the two gentlemen that showed up were extremely fast at packing and unloading the truck. I had a ton of heavy boxes and they managed to move those at extremely fast, yet carefully. We had a problem fitting my couch through a narrow stair case that was up 3 flights of stairs. I didn't think this couch was going to make it into the apartment. But instead of leaving me high and dry, the owner of the company personally came out to my place and made it happen without extra charge. We used Windy City Helpers in early May 2016 to unload our 22' Penske truck that we had driven from NYC. They responded quickly to my initial request for pricing, and followed up to confirm once we had booked their services. They also called the day before our unload was scheduled to confirm with me, as well as in the morning the day of, to let us know they were on their way and to give me their ETA, which was 15 minutes early. I am a huge fan of good communication, and I give them major points for being so responsive. Our unload crew was Charlie, Elijah, and Isaiah, and they did an *amazing* job. They were professional, polite, efficient, and so very fast (all while being extremely careful with our items and boxes)! They even helped us by maneuvering our truck into our extremely tight alley for the unload...not an easy task with a 22' long truck! They unloaded our 2 bedroom apartment into a 2nd floor walkup in just over 2 hours, and we had no issues with breakages. Moving across the country is not fun, but Windy City Helpers made our Chicago unload painless...hire them. read more

We hired this company to help us move out of state. We thought they did a good job loading but when we unpacked the truck at our new home, we realized how terrible they actually were. Most of our wooden furniture was scratched or chipped, there were scuff marks on our couches, and lamps were broken. They even put our sound bar inside a rolled up rug without telling us so when we moved the rug the sound bar fell out onto the cement. read more

After messaging back and forth for over two weeks planning our move into our new addition and after rescheduling with them once (construction didn't finish when we thought) we finally scheduled it for this past Friday at 5p. I was told there was no problem with the date or time. Now it's 5:20 and no one has shown yet. I call and tell them no one has shown up yet. He seems surprised and says he's going to get in touch with the movers and call me back. Twenty minutes later and no call so I call back. The guy is surprised again that no one has called me and says "Ok, I sent him a text. Let me call him and actually make contact." About five minutes later the mover calls me and says he didn't have my address, that's why he's running late. All he had was my name and phone number (why he didn't call to ask my address even though I gave it to his boss two weeks ago is still a mystery to me). He says he's going to pick up another mover and then be on his way to my house. I ask where he is and how long will it take for him to get to my place. After avoiding the question twice he finally tells me he's on the far north side (I live in Mount Greenwood). They are already an hour late by this time and now add another hour for travel time. He says he just goes where his boss tells him to and he's not involved with scheduling. Fair enough, I get that. So I call the company back and this time a lady answers. I explain the situation and she says the reason the movers are late is because they were coming from another job. After I tell her the mover told me he was late because he didn't have my address she says no he had it. After going back and forth trying to get her to understand that we have other friends and family waiting for the helpers to move the big furniture all she can give me is half excuses and sarcastic responses. I finally cut her off and ask if she has anyone in my area who can get to my house earlier than an hour. She says no, I say ok I'll just get another company and we hang up. After all that back and forth we ended up wasting the rest of the weekend and moving most of the stuff ourselves and having some local guys help us out with the bigger stuff. I was initially hopeful with the great reviews even though I noticed a few stories similar to what ended up happening to me. Not sure exactly what happened on their end but it sounds like poor planning combined with not taking responsibility for mistakes. Not once was I legitimately apologized to and not once did anyone even acknowledge the fact that had I not cancelled they would have been two hours late. If not later. They mostly just brushed it off as if it was ok for them to be late. read more

Amazing. I rented through UHaul, and it was a steal, literally, they really should and could charge more they were that good. I supplied the truck, they supplied the help. I moved from a 1600 square foot apartment to a third floor walk-up condo we just purchased. We had lived in that apartment for 3 years. We adopted two dogs there, got engaged there, got married there, had my nephew move in with us there....needless to say, we had a lot of crap. Windy City Helpers answered phone calls and texts promptly. They arrived on time as promised. The pod was packed so efficiently that I do not think a mouse could have fit in. The real PLUS was the tremendous effort they made to find a replacement for a lamp globe that they had accidentally broken. They didn't delay for a moment to get going. They wrapped our furniture as it was going out and handled our possessions with care. U-Haul gave us a 20 foot truck instead of a 26 foot truck. We needed the extra 6 feet like we thought. We were moving out of state. We needed to rent a trailer as well as the truck. Instead of stopping work & bringing the truck back to U-Haul to connect the trailer, Gonzalo brought his pickup truck with me and put the trailer on his truck. Who does that kind of service anymore? It was extremely helpful! I can't say enough good things about these guys. With all things said & done. Even with the delay to get the trailer. They loaded our 3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 deck condo in 3 hrs. If you need any moving help, these are your guys! Best decision I've made in a while. read more
