They took 4 hours on a two hour job. I caught them taking smoking breaks in the truck where my items were. I asked the lady on the phone to inform me of everything I need to know so I'm not surprised by any hidden fees. She left out the part that they charge $25 extra to move your tv if you don't have the box. They damaged my bookshelf, and made my ottoman dirty. When I told the so called highly professional mover that I was not informed about the tv extra charge his coworker said loudly to the other co worker she's being a B****. I was told there was going to be 3 movers but the 3rd mover showed up 30 minutes late. They took their time wrapping all my items I strongly felt that that was on purpose. I ended up paying 2 times more then what I was quoted. I ended up helping them because I could not afford to pay anymore extra money. When I helped them they moved a lot faster. When it was time to drive to my new place they took a longer route. My GPS said the fast route was an 8 minute drive the route they took was 16 minutes I followed them. I've been trying to call and text the lady in the office who upon booking was very responsive and friendly and now won't respond to my texts or calls which is very disappointing. I have used AMO for 3 moves and about to use them for a 4th and they have been nothing but wonderful, helpful, quick, polite, and amazing and always early or right on time to the appointment. Margaret is a total gem and I feel like I could talk to her for hours on end. Ozzie is also amazing and has personally moved me every single time and is always courteous, respectful, and nothing but nice. These other people who are saying he isn't nice must have been a**holes to him first because he is literally the nicest person ever but I wouldn't blame him for standing up for himself if people were being rude to him and his crew. Moving is stressful for everyone and of course as a client we are worried about our things and the costs of everything but it's no reason to be rude to the people who are literally making the move happen. Yes, with any moving company there are fees that come up and in order for them to move your stuff without breaking it, they will use tape and plastic wrap that THEY purchase to ensure your things don't get damaged and then they add the cost to your bill, just like ANY OTHER MOVING COMPANY. I am not sure if the company care about these reviews, how clients feel, and try to improve their business because I see that these reviews are recent as 2019, 2018, 2017, to 2015. This move was the first time I hired moving services and was so uncomfortable. When I booked the services, Margaret told me 3 guys for $290 for 2 hours minimum. Two movers came at 8:05AM, NOT three. Third guy came at 8:23am, late. Background - Margaret mentioned to me that they do not disassemble IKEA furniture. I took that as is and understood it as how she stated, they do not disassemble but nothing about moving them aside from disassembling. Back to the day of the move - Two guys cam and the main guy to communicate through is named OZZIE (WATCH OUT - HOSTILE, UNPROFESSIONAL). I asked Ozzie if they can move my bed which is from IKEA, not disassemble. Ozzie firmly said that they do not move IKEA furniture and I asked him if they were willing to try calmly. He was being very rude about his response, "We do not move IKEA furniture. If you disassemble them, we will move the pieces. THANK YOU." I understood that is their policy and said its okay and they do not have to move the bed. Everything up until here is okay. I understand that they will not move OR disassemble anything IKEA. It sucks but we just have to go about the move. Here is where it gets VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. After that conversation, idk what got into this man Ozzie, he started acting ill mannered. He was moving the boxes with attitude from there on. He then goes into my kitchen, grabs my paper towel and wipes his sweat and starts washing his face in my kitchen sink. I do not mind providing him with paper towel or him using the sink but I felt VERY uncomfortable when he did not ask, he did not say anything, he just goes into my kitchen without a word and proceeds in that manner. While he is doing that, his co-worker is looking at him and shaking his head as he is moving the boxes and I am a bit in shock in what is happening at that moment. That happens and then as we proceed, Ozzie looks at my target 3x3 shelf that i've had for about 3-4 years, shakes it, and says "It's shaky. You get what you buy. This is IKEA furniture" right in front of me indirectly to his co-worker. His co-worker says nothing and proceeds to move my boxes. I told the co-worker "Thank you" and he says "you're welcome". I wish I was making this up but all of this is so shocking to me and I'm just feeling really uncomfortable the whole time. They took smoke breaks out by the truck which doesn't bother me too much but I have experienced that as well as I saw other clients talk about this on their reviews. When we arrived to the place I am moving to, now we have 4 guys all of a sudden. I'm confused as to how it became from 3 to 4 men. They proceed to move the rest of the stuff and when it is time to pay, sign, finish up. Basically: 1. Ozzie put 4 men and charged $10 for the extra guy. I told him no, the service is 3 men for 2 hours $290. I had to explain to him that the 3rd guy was 20 min late and Ozzie was LIVID to change that when I told him that. He said he will change it and when I asked him to fix it on the receipt/paper, he said "You are driving me crazy". 2. The company did charge me for the extra fees and here are the EXTRA FEES - tape, wardrobe cotton, not having a tv box (which I was not informed of by Margaret), mattress cover. 3. This part is what infuriates me the most. My mother saw the extra fees and my mom commented saying "oh my god" to me and then he raised his voice at my mother "OH MY GOD WHAT OH MY GOD WHAT. DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON". I am speechless. speechless. I had to mention "Can you not be rude?". I had my mother with me and her first language is not English. We are talking in our native language about the extra fees, talking about the charges and he was absolutely pissed to hear us talking in a different language. He raised his voice and said "Can you talk in English please?" When me and my mother was talking to each other. Overall conclusion Ozzie is very hostile and unprofessional. I am horrified by this and very soured through this experience. I will NEVER use this company again and I strongly would advice others to use other moving companies. Did not have a great experience. The moving company we had used previously was booked for the week, so we went with Action Movers. They quoted me far below what I ended up paying (I paid twice as much as I was quoted), which I didn't complain about because it did take an additional hour. They also accused me of being dishonest about all the stuff I had. I would've been able to let all of this go if they hadn't broken furniture, which they did and offered nothing to compensate for it. Margaret, The cat box was NEVER supposed to be moved by the crew in the first place. They went to put it on the truck without my knowledge and came back in with it to which I said no that doesn't go on the truck. By the way it is a litter box cover. There was no litter box in it. That was in the bathroom where we had our cats locked up for the day. This happened 5 minutes into the move and was a non issue. The fact that this is what you come back with after all of the issues I outlined is absurd. And yes, the main guy did yell at me. You weren't there. It did not rain all day. It rained twice in 15 minute spurts. Regarding offering to send out a truck the next day the mover said there wouldn't be a charge but I would have to pay for the labor. There was no way I was paying anymore to your company after the experience we had. Shame on you and this company for completely LYING in your rebuttal. I was paired up with this company by another one just as bad. Budget van lines. They sent me a email with the phone number for driver from action movers and told me they would be calling me with the time. When I never got the call I called them and and was greeted by a voice mail message saying "Hi this is Jeff with action movers. I'm either dead or drunk right now, either way I won't be returning your call". In the end I was told on the day that I was supposed to be moving (according to budget van lines) that action movers had decided they wouldn't be moving me. I was informed of this at about 7pm. The moving company will quote you one thing, up the cost after the they move your stuff and threaten to keep your tv(s) if you attempt to negotiate payment. 500+ for one bedroom, couch, dinning room tabls, boxs and clothes. The move was less than a mile away. They tell you they have to wrap everything which is understandable. But they fail to mention that they're charging you for everything that they wrap on top of the moving price that they already quoted you. Beware. The previous moving company i used in the past unfortunately I lost their number. I moved from Rogers Park Illinois to Old Irving Park Illinois with the same things that needed to be moved and the moving price was a total of $280. Just thought I'd warn some people. read more

Pros: price is very competitive. Company is very easy to get in touch with over the phone. Service was completed appropriately and the movers who came out were professional. Cons: my move, which was just an unpacking of a moving cube at my new house, was originally scheduled in a 1-2PM window. A day or so before I had rescheduled over the phone to an 8-9PM window. When 9 PM rolled around and no one had arrived, I called the company and the guy who answered, Shaw, reported that there was no record of me in the system whatsoever, despite me having spoken multiple times to the company over the past few days and having an email confirmation. He said he would look into it and call me back but 10 minutes later I had not heard back. I called back and at that point he again just reiterated there is no record of me in the system and he had not seemed to escalate further to try to figure out what had happened or what to do about it. During the second phone call he did wind up dispatching two guys to come out and do the move but by the time they arrived it was already 9:45 PM. Again I'm happy that I was able to get the move done on the day scheduled and the movers themselves were totally appropriate and got the job done quickly and well, but obviously super inconvenient that they didn't show up and could easily have not been available at 9:30 at night by the time the guy on the phone decided he was going to try to help me out. Our experience with AMO Chicago started very positively, but went downhill quickly. At first, things were moving quickly; the men were quickly moving things out of our old apartment and onto the truck. The closer the apartment got to being emptied, we noticed it was taking longer and longer for them to return and grab more things (turns out the truck wasn't quite big enough and they were intricately Tetris-ing our furniture and boxes in). When we got to the new apartment is when the real problems began. After the initial 2 hour block, you pay per 15 minutes. With that in mind, we became frustrated when only one box was being taken off the truck and brought into the new apartment at a time. We understand that moving things up to the third floor isn't the easiest, but at the same time, there was no reason why the truck wasn't being unloaded quickly, or for that matter, why our things weren't being brought up quickly. Again, we understood we had a substantial amount of things to move, but there was one point where we did not see a mover back in our apartment for 10 minutes. My boyfriend even went into the moving truck to move boxes, just to get the process moving along. The best part of the whole experience is when we called to speak to a manager, he took no interest into our concern. We told him that we had a very good experience with a different company before, but wanted to give AMO Chicago a try, and he asked "Why would you use us if you were so satisfied with the other company?" I can't think of any manager in any aspect of a business that would tell a customer they should stick with a competitor rather than trying to smooth over our frustrations. Bottom line, the actual movers were not bad, but if you don't mind paying hundreds of dollars for slow service and and horrible customer service, then these are your guys. read more

I started the day with $300 cash in my pocket, intending to tip each mover $100 each. DO NOT - I repeat - DO NOT USE Action Movers of Chicago, (particularly Ozzie) unless you want to PAY DOUBLE of what is anticipated, have your things BROKEN and deal with EXTREMELY RUDE movers for minimally 3/4 of a day - 1 bedroom unit. The individuals below who gave this company low ratings are not exaggerating. It started well - very responsive on phone and arrived with energy. After one hour (9:30am) there was silence. I went down to the truck and the movers were sitting curbside as though they just finished a hard day. I pretended not to notice initially. The woman booking me said I was paying for 3 movers. One of the men was gone missing for a majority of the move. After 2 hours and inquiring his whereabouts, Ozzie dismissed it entirely. I inquired again 4 hours into the move (when we were at the truck, apt locked and only 2 lamps to load) and Ozzie said he was upstairs - outright lie. Within a few minutes the 'missing person' walked up carrying a Target bag. There is a Target store 1/2 block away. This is when I realized I was being scammed. When I questioned why he was shopping, the response was 'What! He's entitled to take a break!!!' - followed by a stare down for one minute. I stayed positive knowing there was the back end of the move. I don't want to write a book, however must add this. When Ozzie walked in and said they were complete and ready to close out, we asked where is the glass tabletop. He stated - 'It got broke... it happens. ... things break.' A professional would have responded in this way: 'I apologize however it was accidentally broken..?' There was clearly no intention of telling us this occurred unless we noticed it missing. I echo Mike C. -- I had the same experience - Everything to start went well until the actual move - if your move is important, DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. But the day of the move was a nightmare. At the very beginning, I had one of the crew members asking me what floor I was on, did I have much stuff, what floor was a I moving to- well I am sorry I thought you would be informed of these things since I gave your company all of this information. This same crew member was had a foul mouth and I could hear him through out the day cursing and saying "if you drop that on me, I will kill you". Just not what you want to hear when you are paying people to move your things. It was unprofessional. I was quoted- 3 men at $86/hr with a $46 one time fee of the rental truck. What I got on the day was 4 men at $106 with a $56 one time fee of the rental truck. I though ok this is fine- since there are now 4 guys it will go much faster right? WRONG- one of the guys they brought, bless his heart had no idea which way was up- for example, he tried to tie a belt around my couch cushions to carry them (as you do with heavy items) instead of just picking them up. Let's see, then I was nickled and dimed on the tape/boxes/packing material- nearly $100 used in this area. Sure fine- if that is what it takes. Then they broke my mirror- fabulous. I was understandable about that as well- as they had to hoist my couch through the window which was a $50 hoisting fee- so they just took that off- fair enough. Then they drove away with my screws/nuts/bolts in their toolbox All in all- it was a disaster, nothing went right. I do not recommend them at all. RUN. The date of our move was pushed back repeatedly, as our closing date kept getting pushed back. Ozzie was incredibly accommodating and understanding of our situation. The day of the move, the guys showed up right on time and loaded up the truck with amazing speed. I have used movers several times in the past, and there guys were fast even by professional standards. This was the first time we had used movers, and actually switched to them from originally scheduling Elite movers because their rates were cheaper and they had good reviews. Boy were they wonderful! They called in a timely fashion, were even a little early for the start time, and were fast, professional and organized. We had some stipulations where we were moving to that we could only use 2 rooms to store all our belongings until the other tenant was completely out. They were amazing at working with this and stacking items so the current tenant could still get her stuff out. All in all, they made a stressful day run smoothly. Was very skeptic about movers because of pricing and of course my valuables but my experience with action movers was great. The crew came in on time and was ready to handle business. They have there own way of moving for precision stacking in the truck making sure my items don't get damaged and took into consideration to notify me about any previous damage. Ozzie was extremely patient and accommodating. Moving Day they arrived EARLY! Not only early but ready to go! Other companies I have used stand around and block alleys / streets while doing nothing but NOT THESE GUYS! We are talking about wrapping, moving, and loading at the SAME TIME! Amazing! All of our furniture arrived neatly packed and in good condition. Couch wouldn't fit down the stairs so they hoisted it out the window and it might as well have been a box of pillows for these guys. The short story: if your move is important, DO NOT USE THESE GUYS. Every move is important, so I would warrant against using them. Everything up until the point of moving went great, Margaret was nice and accommodating. But the day of the move was a nightmare with terrible customer service and finished with a call from the owner saying he's not doing the move. They were supposed to be at my place from 12-4. They never called and I had to call them to see where the movers were. When I called at 6pm, they informed me that the move before mine took longer and there were on their way. Two guys showed up at my place at 8pm!!! What a joke! No one had any idea what was going and all Margaret could tell me is that she's sorry and wants to give me $200 b/c now they are not going to move me and I'm out of luck. It was a rookie mistake in coordinating/scheduling people that left me scrambling to move at the end of the month in busy season. I don't want the money, I want to pay YOU to move ME. The owner wasn't any help either with him being extremely rude, short and a pain. If you do decide to use this company, just ask how many moves they have before yours. Because if there's one, they won't get to you. I cannot stress this enough - DO NOT USE THEM. AMAZING! They just left my place about 30 min ago. I had a lot of stuff, and I booked this pretty last minute (Booked Monday...today is fri). They were quick and efficient. I've never used movers before, but I decided to go for it this time around. I'm glad I did, and the three guys they sent out to me were awesome. With how narrow my street (a one way) and alley were this was not an easy move, but they maneuvered around that and handled business like the pros they are. I got 3 guys at $86/hr (+$43 for truck/drive). I would highly recommend them. read more

I have used Action Movers for the last six moves and I have never been more satisfied with a moving company. I move around the country very often and I've never had more professional on time service then I have had with Action Movers. What I liked about this company is they were forthright and honest right from the beginning. The day they moved me it was 90 degrees and they worked as hard as if it was 70°. They didn't add extra charges and not tell me exactly what would be included. They treated me with respect and we're honest about everything they were doing. These guys were awesome. Very flexible with the schedule, and called ahead to keep me posted. I had three stops to pick everything up and they had everything in the truck within 45 minutes! If I could give 10 stars I would. From beginning to end an amazing experience. Bobbi was great, answered all questions, got back to me in a very timely manner and just a very kind person. This was my first time using movers and it was worth every single penny. They was fast, reliable and very very affordable. I would recommend highly. I used AMO on November 1st to move out of my apartment and into storage. Ozzie (sales) was very friendly and helpful. I told him what I needed and he suggested a service that worked out very well. I had 3 men and a truck for about 2 hours. The price was very reasonable (you put a $50 deposit down) and the crew was amazing. I was contacted the day before the move and an hour before the movers showed up on the day of the move. I would recommend them to anyone. read more
