I signed up for Yelp just so I could leave a review for these guys- they are absolutely amazing. I am out of the country and needed to move my furniture from my apartment in Chicago to a storage unit. I was calling people last minute, trying to find someone who was available and would be trustworthy and flexible- since I was coordinating this from another country, there were bound to be mishaps, and I needed someone who could figure out how to get things done regardless, especially since they couldn't call me if anything went wrong, as my phone doesn't receive calls while I'm out of the country. After being yelled at by people at other moving companies who told me they would not entertain the thought of working outside normal business hours [the elevators in my building were only free before 8 am and after 6 pm at the time that I started calling people], I called Gonzalo and he was more than willing to go to my apartment in the evening, pack my kitchen supplies, and get all my furniture and boxes to my storage unit. I had bought boxes through U-Haul to pack things in, but apparently I didn't buy enough. Gonzalo and his crew still figured out how to make sure everything was packed [they found bags to use]. I also apparently didn't reserve the elevators in my building for long enough, but Gonzalo and his crew again used a bit of ingenuity to figure out how to make things work. The entire situation resulted in extra work for them, but in every update that Gonzalo sent me via email, he was polite, patient, and positive. I cannot imagine anyone else being as patient and accommodating in this situation. These guys are lifesavers. read more

We hired Windy City Helpers to help us move. We purchased 2 moving helpers for 8 hours to help move a 4 bedroom with basement and garage. The Helpers showed up with 3 movers at no extra charge and went to work. These guys didn't stop until everything was done. They didn't take a single smoke break and didn't even stop for lunch. They handled all of our stuff with respect and care. They knowledgeably and meticulously packed the truck in order to take advantage of every cubic inch of available space. They did the same at our storage unit. Unfortunately because of the sheer amount of stuff we had to move, it took two truck loads and close to 10 hours to move everything. I was afraid that because I only hired them for 8 hours that they would leave before everything was moved and leave me to do it all myself. "We aren't leaving until the job is done." was the reply when I asked Gonzalo about staying late. The owner, Gonzalo even came back the next day after work on his own time to help move the rest of our stuff. This guy saved me money, saved my back and possibly saved my marriage! Ralph and Gabe were the best movers I've ever had. They were early to the appointment, friendly and trustworthy. I hired Ralph to drive our U-Haul truck, which made my move much easier than trying to drive a 15 foot truck on Chicago's small side streets. I had an unfortunate situation where I had to move out of my old apartment on August 31st and couldn't get into our new place until September 1st so I had to move twice, and put our furniture into storage. Ralph & Gabe made the process extremely easy, which is so important during a stressful move! They did a great job moving our furniture. They were very quick and also padded/protected all of our furniture. Some of our pieces are huge, steel pieces and they never once complained. Our move also took longer than anticipated and they didn't try to up-charge me. Gonzalo was also in contact with me throughout the move, from confirming with me twice before the actual move and also on the moving day, which I appreciated. Most importantly, I felt like they took care of me and made sure the move went smoothly. Overall, great customer experience and I'll definitely be using these guys again. read more

Gonzalo and Isaiah were the absolute BEST. They arrived at the Uhaul location EARLY. They were waiting on us! They moved through traffic very well, and safely. They were soo patient with our wait at the furniture bank also (as we were received donated furniture from a charity and we were held up for a little bit by the charity's processes). But they were on the move once they were able to begin loading. It took not even 15 minutes for them to load the truck?? We didn't have too, too many items but there were some heavy ones. They unloaded the truck and moved our items and furniture into our condo, wherever we specified, with winner's attitudes.These wonderful men were courteous, professional, and gave us great service overall. I'm telling you they move quickly. Efficient. And very down to earth and relatable men. It made the drive pleasant and the long day run smoothly. Do Not Go With Anyone Else. Gonzalo and his team came recommended from two different relatives who had used them multiple times for past moves and loved them. This was the first move for my husband and I that we decided to use movers instead of doing it all ourselves, so we weren't sure what to expect when we booked Windy City Helpers. The entire process from booking to moving day was very smooth and straightforward, and Gonzalo and his men worked incredibly hard! We moved from a second floor walk up to a third floor walk up with multiple pieces of heavy furniture, and they were very careful and efficient with our pieces with positive attitudes the whole way through. They charged a flat rate per hour and didn't try to nickel and dime us for anything once the job was done. Gonzalo and his guys, Vincent and Edgar, did a great, great job. I had only contacted Gonzalo the day before. I'd hurt my back suddenly and didn't want to chance loading the UHaul Ubox. They showed up exactly on the time promised, with UBox in tow... get much extra credit for running out to get boxes which UHaul people had forgotten to load into the UBox. Also maneuvered through a parking hangup at the large apt building we were moving out of. They packed and loaded efficiently. Gonsalvo knows what he is doing. He's obviously done a lot of moving work. Good, nice guys. And Gonsalvo's rates are lower than others advertised with UBox moves. There is nothing like small businesses working hard to make a living. What an absolutely amazing company. Windy City Movers are so professional and are great at what they do. We lived on a third floor apartment without an elevator- yikes! These guys were insanely on top of it and didn't complain at all! They carefully wrapped my furniture up without me even actually asking. They packed my uhaul so carefully and perfectly. They were kind and extremely hard workers. (When we moved from one Chicago apartment to another two years ago- the moving company we hired with uhaul was horrible....). Windy City Movers are hands down the BEST and I would highly recommend them. GREAT! I needed a reliable team to load my apartment's contents down 3 flights into a Penske truck I'd rented, and found WCH on the UHaul page. Gonzalo made a team available on pretty short notice (and kept in touch with me about the scheduling), and Charlie, Elijah and Edgar were outstanding. They called on the way to update me about timing (everything got tied up in a Cubs game that day). They worked hard and solidly through the time it took to load the truck, packing VERY efficiently (I was able to fit my storage locker in, as well as the apartment contents!) and carefully. They were polite and outstanding. I would definitely recommend them, and would use them again. read more

I recently used Windy City Helpers to move furniture from a 1 bedroom apartment from Lincoln Park to Gold Coast. They were on time right at 9:00AM and moved quickly and we were finished everything in under 3 hours. They were very helpful, careful not to scratch anything at my new apartment and were very friendly. I have used other moving companies in the past but hiring two guys and renting a U Haul saved me almost $500 then using a full moving company. I would highly recommend Windy City Helpers if you just need help with a quick move within the city. They made what could have been a very stressful day, by far the easiest move I've had in 3 years. read more

Everything was great! Showed up on time was ready to start working right away. Gonzalo and his employee was fantastic! They never stopped working and were able to load the uhaul like it was a puzzle! Also I could not believe he let us use his own personal truck for what didn't fit into the uhaul! This type of commitment to ones job and what they do should never go in noticed ! They were even ready to help us in pack and or move our heavy stuff around in new place! We did not have them do this hit what a great offer! They were INCREDIBLE! AMAZING! FANTASTIC! I was their 4th move of the day on Easter Sunday but they showed no signs of fatigue. We had a truck, trailer and van. Load after load they carried up the stairs with a positive attitude and a quick pace. I expected the move to take up to 3 hours - they had it done in 2. They were mindful and respectful of the items and the apartment. I was positive my giant couch would not fit through the door - Gonzalo was positive it would - and he made it happen by very careful maneuvering. Incredibly strong and swift - there is no one else I would ever call to move me again. GREAT JOB! read more

I can't say enough good things about Melissa and Gonzalo. They were able to fit all of my things into one shipping crate saving me hundreds of dollars and threw out all of my furniture that wasn't getting moved. They were easily able to maneuver my very heavy furniture down very narrow steep stairs, without so much as a scratch on the furniture. Gonzalo even helped me fix a piece of furniture that I had broken previously as he was loading it into the shipping create. Without question I'd use Windy City Helpers to unpack, except Im moving across the country. I will recommend them to all of my friends and family! read more

I am really disappointed.... This company should have zero stars. I thought I was contacting Windy City Movers who my entire family has used for years. I had went online and requested information about their services and booked my move. I was really shocked when I called Windy City Movers and realized that I had booked with a different company! They thoroughly and logically packed our U-Haul truck so it could accommodate all of our belongings. They were fast but careful while moving our stuff. Great crew arrived on time. Very professional moved me out of a 4 bedroom house in a reasonable time. Gonzalo was not there but his crew was amazing and made sure everything was taken care of. Crew was very knowledgeable in loading and unloading properly to ensure my stuff was protected and safe from breakage. Would use them again on another move. HIghly recommend. Gonzalo was a true professional; his guys weren't as much! They did my move (2-bed) under 3 hours with minimal to no damage (e.g. some minor scratches and dents). It was all thanks to Gonzalo, though. Without his supervision and help, the move would not have been as smooth. You would like him to do your move personally. (They were also very flexible with me on the day of the move when I had to push off our appointment by a couple of hours.) I certainly recommend them. read more

Unreliable, unresponsive, unprofessional. Three words to sum up my experience with Windy City Helpers. I booked them a week out and didn't receive a confirmation call the day before (it was Easter so I figured they'd call in the morning for a 1pm move time). I sent numerous texts and tried to call and all calls went straight to voicemail. How are they even in business?! Who just BAILS on a BOOKED job?! With NO COMMUNICATION?! That's insane to me.
