I just wanted to write and let you know that Dale and Keith were a great help during my recent move. They acted very professionally and showed a lot of foresight in planning and strategizing the move of each large piece of furniture. I was pleasantly surprised that they both were willing to take apart the furniture, wrap the pieces carefully in blankets, and then reassemble each piece of furniture at the new location . . .do all movers do that?? As you can see, I've never hired professionals until now. They both also asked me about things that I may have forgotten to include in the move, such as my bike and stuff in my old storage locker - very appreciated their thoughtfulness! I remember Dale asking me specifically if the entertainment table for my TV could be disassembled or if it had been originally purchased as one solid piece - he was concerned that the tempered glass surfaces of the table might need to be removed and wrapped up for transport. Keith noticed that the floor where I wanted my bookshelves to be placed in the new location sloped upwards toward the baseboard, which potentially could've caused the bookshelves to topple over if they overloaded with books on the top shelf. He recommended buying some shims from Home Depot or some hardware store to secure the base of the bookshelves...I didn't even know what a shim was until he told me lol. Their friendly demeanor and some of the joking and jesting with me reminded me of the type of personality that's commonly found in successful comedy improvisers. All I know is they had me chuckling quite a bit during what could've been a very stressful move for me. I'll definitely keep your firm in mind if I or any of my acquaintances are in need of movers. Better than perfect! I needed some help unloading a moving truck. Communication was excellent, the price was good, and the service was fantastic. There was a hitch with the building elevator but Michael quickly found another approach, getting everything moved in quickly, safely, and without problems. When you've moved as many times as I have (25+ times in the last 20 years, 6 different states, and at least 10 different cities), you learn the value of ponying up and hiring movers. Particularly when you've graduated from the mattress on the floor and IKEA coffee table to a big girl bed, a big girl couch, and roughly 30 boxes filled with shoes, clothes and purses. I was also a last-minute addition (I didn't know until the last minute that I could move in early), and although I couldn't accept their offer of moving earlier in the day, it worked out perfectly (with a Yelp deal to boot!). While they were a little late due to traffic (but really, who isn't in this town), they managed to knock out a 1-bedroom move from a basement (excuse me, garden apartment) to a 2nd floor apartment with really awkward stairs. They were fast, efficient, and even managed to get what ended up being a ridiculously inconvenient couch within their recommended time frame. Both nice and extremely helpful, not complaining about the inevitable cat hair or that my old apartment was a mess. Highly recommend. read more

We used Neuhaus and Sons to move us back in July. Positives: They were prompt and showed up on time. Negatives: They told us it would take about 2 hours to move all of our stuff and it actually took 4 hours. They weren't going to use any kind of materials (such as blankets) to protect our furniture as it was moved until I had mentioned it. Then, the cherry on top was that they broke my TV stand and blamed it on me. They said I shouldn't have purchased such a cheap product, and that I should have expected it to break during the move since it was so unsteady. Well, it wasn't unsteady before the move, they never wrapped it with any kind of protective items, and now it is still a well functioning TV stand (despite all the work we had to do to repair the damage). I called Neuhaus and Sons to let them know I was thoroughly unhappy with my service and requested a partial refund, and all they could say was a meek "Sorry, but it's your fault your TV stand is broken". I will never use this company again due to their lack of attention to detail and their poor customer service that makes the customer feel at fault. read more

I hired Neuhas & Sons to take care of my move this past weekend, and I could not have made a better decision. I'll admit--the initial reason I chose this moving company was because they gave me the most appealing quote, and I was hoping to save a little money. But I can't imagine the move having gone any better! First of all, the apartment I moved out of was a 3rd-floor walk-up. Not fun. But these two guys handled it like it was no big deal. They had everything out of my one-bedroom apartment in about an hour and a half. And I have A LOT of stuff. They were polite, friendly, and professional. They got all of my stuff into my new apartment (ground floor, thank goodness) in less than an hour. It was super impressive. They were great about asking me where I wanted them to put things too, which was great because a lot of this stuff was too heavy for me to rearrange on my own once they left. Not a single one of my things was scratched or broken in the slightest. To add to all of this, they were also really easy to make an appointment with. I was only moving to a new apartment about a mile away and so didn't have too much stuff as I was moving in with a roommate who already lived there, which made it easier. It took them less than 3 hours to do the whole move and helped me set up my room the way I wanted it as well. I hired Neuhaus & Sons for my move at the end of September this year. My move was a bit complicated as I had to move into storage for 6 weeks while my new place was gutted and remodeled, but Michael Neuhaus and crew were excellent and made all of this much more bearable! Sam and Dale were my movers and man did they hustle! It was pretty hot that day and I was moving out of a 3rd floor walk-up so it wasn't the easiest job, but they were classy and professional, not to mention they got it all done in record time. I move into my new place tomorrow and I am looking forward to seeing the Neuhaus guys again- I have no worries about the new place because I know they will take good care of me and my stuff and get me into the new place quickly and with no stress! Neuhaus & Sons did an excellent job with my move last weekend. The process for obtaining an estimate was quick and professional. Trust me, I got an estimate with 3 other top YELP moving companies in the Chicago area, and they came in with the best cost. They provided 2 men for my 1 bedroom move from Lincoln Park to Bucktown and did it in 2 hours flat. The yelp deal they were offering was a great cost savings as well. The best part of the move was when they were able to magically fit my sleeper sofa through the tiny door entry of my building and up 3 flights of winding stairs (I shutter at the thought!). They broke a sweat but still were composed enough to set it down in the best spot in the room and make sure the legs were screwed on properly. So yes, yelpers, this is "as good as it gets!" I've used several different moving companies in Chicago in the past few years and have had some bad experiences and never found a company that I thought was phenomenal or worth rehiring. I heard about Neuhaus&Sons after asking my Facebook friends to recommend good movers, and I had several friends who enthusiastically recommended Neuhaus&Sons. I contacted Mike through email and he got back to me in less than an hour with a quote and to set up an appointment. It was nice to not have to put down a deposit or answer 6 million questions about how many boxes I have (who keeps track of that?!), what sizes they are (what is considered medium?!), or how much shrink wrap I need for my bookcases (cuz I shrink wrap my stuff all the time just for fun). Anyway, the day of the move Mike called several hours before my scheduled time to let me know their expected arrival time and again when they were on their way over. Mike and Keith were very polite, introduced themselves, and got right to work. They worked faster and more efficiently than any of the 4 men crews I've hired in the past. I couldn't believe how quickly 2 dudes moved that much stuff down 3 steep flights of stairs. And they didn't complain about the stairs or how dusty/heavy some of the boxes were. I don't own any priceless artwork, have a faberge egg collection, or a $6,000 credenza, but they moved all of my stuff with the type of care given to those types of items. Mike even took the time to remove the doors on some very heavy/large cabinets just to make sure they could move them easily and without damaging anything. They were very communicative about asking where things should go and were incredibly easygoing and flexible. This was by far, the most stress-free, pleasant experience with movers I have ever had. After doing some extensive research on movers in the Chicagoland area, I e-mailed Neuhaus and Sons for an estimate. They were quick to respond and were up to the challenge of moving both my boyfriend and I to our third floor apartment. They moved me out of my place in about 30 minutes, met us at our next stop for another 45 and we were at our new place soon after. Now I usually get winded walking up the 3 flights of stairs to my place, so I was incredibly impressed with Neuhaus and Sons as they carried 2 couches, 2 beds, 2 dressers, tv stands and other large items up to our new place. Although it was originally estimated to take 4-5 hours, they got it done in 3! If I ever move again I would definitely use Neuhaus and Sons! read more

We were moving from Bridgeport to Rogers Park with a dog and two cats so my partner and I decided that getting movers was the only way to cut down on (some) of the stress of moving. After doing some research, I found Neuhaus & Sons. Made my appointment, bought a Yelp! deal, and hoped for the best (we'd never used movers before). I literally had no expectations of movers other than they were just going to get our stuff to the new apartment. Let me tell you, these guys were AMAZING. They called to confirm 30 minutes before showing up and were prompt. They got everything out of the old place and into the new place in a little over 4 hours (on a Sunday, over Labor Day weekend, going from Bridgeport to Rogers Park, with traffic on LSD, and with only one of the elevators in our building working). And they were incredibly nice about the (what I thought was a) huge mess, the (what I thought was) tons of boxes, having to carry our bed up to the 6th floor because it wouldn't fit in the elevator, and our dog greeting them with a running jump (at least someone was excited about moving day). On top of all that, everything came to under $500. They charge by the hour and not the box which is just so reasonable. I was seriously nervous about hiring movers because I really didn't know what to expect. These guys completely eased my fears and were in good spirits the entire day. Moving is never an easy task. Enter Michael Neuhaus. These guys are, in a word, fantastic! All I did was email Michael. His responses were prompt and we scheduled my move easily. The day of the move, Michael and Dale arrived an hour before my originally scheduled time, which was great. They very quickly had everything stacked and put into a large truck, even dismantled the bed, wrapped my futon frame, bookshelf, and set of drawers in protective film before wheeling them down. They both were very professional and efficient in handling all the 35 or so boxes. They even put them in logical order at the new apartment! It took the two of them a total of two and a half hours, including the travel time, to move it all. Just mark your boxes properly and leave the rest to them! A job fantastically done! I recently had a cross country move- Chicago to Las Vegas. At the last minute, I decided it wasn't worth jeopardizing lifelong friendships by using those friends to help me pack my moving truck. I searched around on Craigslist and found Micheal. He emailed me back within minutes, and was able to come when I needed him. He and his colleague arrived on time and worked solidly for 2 hours, extracting my heavy and awkward furniture from my second floor coachhouse apartment. They helped me move apartments yesterday, and I swear if it wasn't for them I'd still be moving stuff. My twiggy arms are of no help to my boyfriend when it comes to moving couches and heavy desks, so we hired these guys to help us make the move from Hyde Park to South Loop. I called around asking for quotes and these guys had the most competitive prices around. They were extremely courteous and professional, and the two guys that came to help us were fast. I felt bad because we didn't have the new place's freight elevator for very long so they had to rush, but nothing broke despite the fast pace. Only reason why I had to take off a star was because they were 40 minutes late, which was the main reason why we had to go so fast...we had reserved the elevators based on them coming at 8 AM, but they didn't arrive at our door until 8:40. Also, they don't wrap your furniture up in plastic or anything... they only use blankets and stuff in the truck. So I would still do a really good job of wrapping your stuff up and wrapping your fragile stuff really well =). Good prep makes for a smooth move! read more

We decided we'd been eating on a desk and folding chairs long enough and started cruising Craigslist for a dining table and chairs. Found a nice antique set, but needed to find delivery. I gave Neuhaus & Sons a call and email at almost 10pm on Thursday night and asked if there was any way to get a pick up from Wicker Park and delivery to Lincoln Square on that Friday or weekend. Sadly, I got an email back from Michael saying no-go, they were all booked up until *next* weekend. Fast forward to the next morning, I got a very friendly voicemail from Michael saying that they'd finished another job early and had some time at 11:30. And, well, I didn't get the message until 11:15. But! We were able to scramble and get everything done. Very professional, very careful, very friendly and a good rate - it'll cost you less than renting a Uhaul with all the extra fees Uhaul tacks on, you won't have to haul the stuff yourself and it's faster and easier. Efficient, on time, courteous, responsive, and very very reasonable!! Best movers we had hired in 4 decades! We were changing out furniture and I was looking for movers to help. First, Micheal got back to us with a quote in 15 minutes. That quote was about 40% to 60% of what we had been given by other movers. And there were no gimmicks, no ifs or buts. Some other movers had asked for "dumping fees" for our old unwanted furniture , per-hour rates, potential over-time rates, and other msc charges. Neuhaus & Sons gave us one rate for the entire job, and told us that we will get a call about 9:30 the morning of the move. That was exactly what they did. They arrived at the new furniture pick-up spot on time, at exactly 10:00 am as we had agreed on. Everything happened like expected from there. I found a few more pieces of old furniture to throw out after the new pieces arrived. They took care of them all - not a single mishap and nothing missing. I don't think this could have happened in any better way with any other movers. We are so very happy that Yelp helped us find Michael and his partners for our move. I called these guys based on their Yelp ratings, and was not at all disappointed. I called on a Sunday at 3:30, and Michael met me one hour later for the move. Highly recommend these guys. My move couldn't have gone smoother. I signed a lease sooner than anticipated and had to book movers within a couple of weeks. Most companies I called were already booked but Neuhaus was able to fit me in the last Saturday of the month. Michael was prompt in responding to all my inquiries and booked me without any hassle. The day of the move, Neuhaus called to say they finished another job early and could be at my place about an hour earlier than expected. Awesome! Myself and two other people helped them load and unload things from the truck and these guys were speedy. No putzing around or even stopping for water. Plus, street parking is brutal near my apartment but they made it work and didn't act inconvenienced all. They even offered to put together my bed (which includes a massive headboard) without me asking, which saved me so much time. For reference, I was right at the three hour minimum once the move was completed and we moved items for a studio sized apartment from a suburb about an hour from the city to the Gold Coast. I had a fantastic time working with Michael and Dale; these guys are the real deal, and I will, without a doubt, use them for all of my future moving needs. Some highlights: * Michael called me an hour before he was scheduled to arrive to confirm all of the details; I had also emailed him a few days before, and received a well-crafted response by the end of the day (he actually apologized for not responding right away, which I really appreciated; shows he cares). * Michael and his partner, Dale, showed up ten minutes before the scheduled arrival time; these guys definitely live by the mantra "If you're on time, you're late." A+ for time management. * Both Mike and Dale seemed like genuinely nice and caring people who believe in hard work. They were both very friendly and polite. Even while they were bringing up all of the furniture into my new apartment, you could tell they really cared about not scratching the walls, trying to semi-organize all of the boxes based on labels, etc. * They charge per hour, regardless of how much stuff you have, whether your building has stairs or elevators, etc. I paid way, way less than I would have had I chosen some of the other companies that come up at the top of Yelp when you do a search for movers near Chicago. Neuhaus and Sons recently helped my husband and I move from a 2-bedroom condo in the city into a house in the western suburbs. They did a great job overall, and they were able to help us on short notice after our original moving company let us down by changing the details of our move at the last minute. We had 3 movers and they were all very courteous, quick, and helpful. We had a ton of boxes; they packed up our condo in about 3 hours and then unloaded our stuff at our new house in a little over an hour! Nothing was broken or damaged from what we can tell. The total move took about 6 hours, which was less than what many other movers quoted us. The other moving company we had booked, which is a very highly rated one in Chicago, changed our details at the last minute and told us it would take 6 men and 8 hours to move our two-bedroom condo. I knew that was BS, so I called Neuhaus with only about 3 days of notice, and they were able to help us. They gave me a quote very quickly and answered all of my questions via email. We also ended up paying about $300 less than what many other movers had quoted us. I was very pleased with their service and price, and I would recommend them and use them again. read more

These guys are great! I was completely happy with the job they did. Very efficient, professional and friendly. We used Neuhaus and sons to move a sectional sofa we bought from Craigslist and I couldn't be happier with my experience. I have moved several times in my life and never had movers as professional and nice. He treated my sofa like gold and transported it in a safe and quick manner. This is 4th time I've used Neuhaus & Sons for a move (so a bit overdue). They are amazing and Michael is literally a magician at packing a truck. We hired Nehaus & Sons to load our 26 foot truck for a long distance move out of Chicago. About halfway though we realized that not everything was going to fit and I honestly thought half of our condo wasn't going to make it. However, Michael worked his magic and got 98% percent of our of stuff into the truck. Everything was packed perfectly and nothing was damaged or broken. He fit me in on Wed afternoon, and called to confirm not once but TWICE during the day. When Michael and his associate arrived ON TIME and were very polite and helpful. They were very careful with the table an chairs and even put the legs back on the table for me at no additional cost. DO NOT HIRE THESE PATHETIC IRRESPONSIBLE MOVERS!!!! I had a nightmare experience with these people. I scheduled a move with them almost two weeks in advance and I was told that "no problem" they were free basically most of the week that I wanted to move (this should have been my first warning sign.) About 3 days before the scheduled move, I get this message from the owner telling me that they "forgot" they already had someone else booked for my date and time. So, he unapologetically tells me that I can either schedule then earlier in the day, or later that evening. I was bothered, but because it was so close to my move, I rescheduled for later that day. Then he tells me, "well we might be there earlier we'll call you that day and let you depending on where we're at." So I tell him that I want to schedule a solid time. He confirms a time that was an hour later than the estimated time of arrival, after this "forgotten appointment." The night before the move, I have to contact them to confirm, just to make sure they didn't forget or suddenly remember that they had someone else booked already. Finally, the day of the move comes and I don't get a call from them confirming anything. About an hour before my schedule move I call them to make sure they are still coming. The owner does not answer his phone. Then he calls me telling me that they will "probably be there about an hour late." At this point, I am pissed because I have been waiting for them and basically had to change my whole day around for these idiots. Of course, they don't show up at the time he told me they would be there. So, at this point, I start contacting another mover. Just as I am hanging up the phone from scheduling my time with the new mover, the owner calls me to tell me they are out back. I tell him not to bother and to keep driving. If you don't mind being passed over for someone else and waiting around all day, then call these guys, but if you want someone that is responsible and values customer service, then I would contact Roy the mover from Weekend Warriors. You can find him on Craigslist. They can move you with last minutes notice. I will NEVER hire Neuhaus and Sons and I made sure to tell all my friends and family about how much they suck. I had three friends who were moving and wanted to know if they should hire them and I told them to hire Roy instead. If you also look at the reviews here, about 8 of them appear to be made up. Notice that they are written my people with no pics, only have 1 or two reviews, and have no friends. Sounds like this guy created fake yelp accounts or had his friends do it to pump up his ratings.
