A nightmare would be the easiest way to describe my experience. I'll start with the positives: They were willing to help me out very last minute when my other movers cancelled due to circumstances beyond their control. They did keep moving the entire time and did not take any breaks. They were communicative. Now for everything else: They arrived 2.5 hours late with no apology. The main mover, Frank, swore and yelled in both my place and my new place even though it was around 11:00PM by this point. Frank also whined about everything and instead of working with me became argumentative and dismissive. They broke my stereo and dumped my box of plants breaking several pots and uprooting all of them. They knocked over a pot of dirt in my old apartment and left the mess there. They arranged heavy items on top of light items and I ended up having an avalanche of a bunch of my stuff. They were rude and angry and yelled at me. I was mortified and crestfallen. I sobbed in my apartment at all the extra work I now had to do in order to get my life put back together. Frank made this experience the nightmare it became and ended up costing me $150 extra due to his behavior. If you want a crew that treats your belongings and you with respect, look elsewhere. read more

These guys are so so wonderful. I had used them for two previous moves and they've always been reliable, efficient and fairly priced. I only branched out this time based on a strong recommendation from a friend. Unfortunately, this "recommended company" that I'd scheduled attempted to scam me, day of, and charge me over double the initial quote, saying that the move would take at least 4.5-5 hours for a 1 bedroom apt less than a mile away. After calling Strong Arm Movers and explaining the situation, they told me that these scams have been happening all over the city during covid. They squeezed me in at the end of the day, despite having already done several moves and being exhausted. These guys did the move in 2 hrs and 15 minutes for the same fair price they had charged me for my last two moves, and were so incredibly kind to me throughout it all. Terrible. Do not use. They messed up their own scheduling, cancelled my move at the last second, and then tried to blame me for their own incompetence. Story: i scheduled a move with them today. It was last minute, i acknowledge, but they agreed to do the move at 11:15. 11:15 comes and goes. Waited a while. At 11:45, got a text from the dispatcher saying they were 2 min away. Went outside to meet them...nada. Waited until 12pm. Finally got a text from the dispatcher saying that they were outside looking for me--nope. Get the dispatcher on the phone, he starts getting mad at me about how they are doing me a favor and how I don't understand the situation and how they are going to do my job even though it's making them late for a job they have at noon. I explain to him: 1. No, we agreed on a service and a price. That's not a favor. 2. You're telling me at noon that you're going to be late to a job that's at noon? What kind of scheduling is that? So dude gets upset and cancels on me then sends me a text saying I "don't understand the situation" No dude, I understand perfectly, you tried to squeeze too many jobs in and you ended up flaking on me and being late to the next move. I get that that happens, but maybe next time take a little responsibility and don't try and blame the customer. read more

I got help from Strong Arm Movers twice - moving things from a 2-bedroom apartment into storage, and then from storage to my new place. Seeing that there are many "extreme" reviews on this company, I figure I'll break mine down into "sections" to describe the experience: Price: I checked prices with Strong Arm Movers, 2 Men and Truck and some other company whose name I don't remember anymore. - Strong Arm Movers estimated a $200 fee to go from 2nd floor to storage, and then $250 from storage to floor 2.5. - 2 Men and Truck estimated a $700 fee. - The third company was around $500. Given the disparity of prices, and the cost of my furniture (nothing fancy), I went with Strong Arm, assuming that they will work faster, without tediously wrapping all my items, but saving me a few hundred bucks. To be honest, I was surprised at how low the price was. I was a bit worried that the move might go wrong and I'd be charged extra, but it was so much cheaper that I'd be ok even if having to pay $100 extra if I saw it was fair (there wasn't a contract, so its all good-faith-based anyway). Scheduling: I scheduled the move only a few days in advance and Frank squeezed it in. The 2 guys showed up at my place within half hour from the scheduled time and got to work right away - for both of the moves. I understand the nature of the business and scheduling, so I was very satisfied with the timing (would not have been satisfied if I paid $700). Move: Throughout the two moves, one of the flimsy bookshelves I got from Target got broken. The shelf was ~$60 and wobbly (not disassembled). The guys simply informed me that it broke. If I remember correctly, they took $20 from the moving fee, which I was ok with - I was not surprised that the shelf didn't survive, I should have disassembled it. Everything else was moved without any damage - no scratches, no cuts. Also, my dining table had a stripped screw preventing me from removing one of its legs for the move - the movers had tools that enabled them to quickly remove the stripped screw and finish disassembly so the thing could fit through the door. I disassembled all other large furniture myself prior to the move. Final fees: I paid what was originally agreed upon. Both of my moves were done within approximately the time estimate that I was originally given. I suspect that I would have been charged more if the moves took much more time than the 2 hours Frank estimated when scheduling, but there were no complications. Overall: I was happy with how things went. The movers looked a bit intimidating - on a scariness scale from "flower shop lady in the countryside" (0) to "hardened criminal holding a knife and covered in violence-depicting tattoos" (10), I'd rate a few of them at 6 or maybe 6.5. However, they were friendly, polite, and efficient - I felt very comfortable working with them. I expect to hire Strong Arm for my next move. read more

If I could give more stars I would. Frank and Gus were fabulous. They actually arrived a few minutes early for our appointment. Very clean cut, pleasant and professional. They got right to work moving the furniture. They even came with their own tools to take legs off the couches and the backs off the sofa that didn't fit through the doors. They are everything you're looking for in movers, Punctual , kind, hard-working, fast, and accommodating. They definitely live up to their title Strong arm movers because we had extremely heavy furniture and they handled it like a boss. My experience with Frank and Strong Arm Movers can best be described with "un": * Unresponsive * Unprofessional * Unreliable * Untrustworthy * Undeserving of any future business The nightmare started just over a week before our move. I had called every reputable place on yelp for movers but they were all booked. With desperation setting in I took to the internet and ran across Strong Arm Movers. No reviews on yelp, but they were available on the evening of our move date, had decent enough comments on their homepage, and their rates were reasonable. About 3 days before the move I left voicemails and emailed Frank to confirm our moving appointment. No reply, and likely the first sign that this would not end well. The day before our move I was finally able to reach Frank by phone and he verbally confirmed our appointment. I was relieved, but still left with a good amount of apprehension. Moving day comes along and we're scheduled to start at 6:30 PM. 6:45 rolls around and there's no truck in sight. After multiple calls I finally get a hold of Frank. Frank says, "I was just about to call you". Yeah right. He goes on to say they're running late on their current move and won't be able to make it until 8:30 PM. That's two hours later than scheduled but I'm stuck and at least he acknowledged he was coming. The clock hits 8:45 and, surprise surprise, no movers. Panic mode starts to set in and my repeated calls to Frank go straight to voicemail. At 9PM my phone finally rings, but it's not Frank. It's another moving company whom Frank called to do our move because they weren't coming. The only bad news is this new moving company can't move us until 5PM the next day. With new tenants coming, a move on the next day was not an option. At this point I've reached full on FTFO mode as my calls to Frank continue to go straight to voicemail. This bastard and poor excuse for a business owner didn't even have the decency to call me himself. It's after 9 and just about every other business is closed. Who can move us at this hour? Do I try and scrounge up a U-Haul and begin preparing for a 10 hour self move? After a good half hour of anger, frustration, and desperation, we get our miracle. The wifey is somehow able to find another mover willing to take us on. In the end we finish our move at 1:30 AM, no thanks to this, excuse my french, a**hole who left us completely high and dry. I'll consider this a lesson learned and will know to book a reputable mover way in advance. But whatever you do, DO NOT MOVE WITH STRONG ARM MOVERS. First of all, I would give them negative stars if I could. I only gave one star because I HAD to. They do not even deserve one. So, we had been looking for a mover to help us with our apartment move last weekend. Despite many bad reviews paired with a decent amount of good reviews, we decided to go with Strong Arm Movers. My boyfriend had called and spoke with Frank, the supposed owner earlier in the week. He told him what all we were in need of moving and said he would help the mover so we only needed one person. So we set a price, time, Etc. The day of the move the mover showed up early. Called my boyfriend and had an attitude that would couldn't start moving early (someone else was using the freight until our time slot). When it came to our time slot he pulled into the garage and came up to our apartment. He looked at our apartment and said "this is NOT a one person job" with a heavy attitude. My boyfriend, two times the size of this guy, said he was helping. The mover REFUSED & walked out claiming he was going to call his partner for backup. He also said without his partner he would be working "harder than he needed to." Obviously, my boyfriend was extremely frustrated as adding another mover would increase the set rate we had already locked it. Well! He didn't even bother to call his partner. He got in his truck and left. He wouldn't answer any of our SIX phone calls. He then followed up by texting my boyfriend that he wasn't going to do our move and he was already at another job! We called the main number that was used to schedule this whole mess. Instead of the owner answering, the asshole who decided to skip out on our move answered. We were then left with two time slots wasting away and no mover. The fact that he was already at another job just made us feel like he showed up with no intention to help us because our job was small and not paying as much as he'd hoped. If I could've followed him to the next job to punch him in the damn face, I sure as hell would have. I have NEVER worked with someone so unprofessional before. I was referred to Strong Arm by a friend who's used them a time or two with no complaints, so for my move, I thought I'd give them a call. They quoted me less than half of what other Chicago-land movers did for a small one bedroom move. Frank was attentive and timely to calls and he even called me two days before the day to confirm. Frank and his team showed up 5-10 minutes before my scheduled 9am move and had everything in the truck by 9:10-9:15 (we helped with some of the boxes). They did wrap our mattress in a sheet for the move. The move into the new place took a little longer coming up into a 3rd floor walk up but even with the stairs they were considerate of were they were putting our things and checked in to make sure we were fine with were they were setting stuff, and with all considered still super fast. Note, I don't believe they're insured so we took our electronics in a friends car to avoid any breakage in the back of the truck, but I doubt it would have been an issue as they were so great about everything else Overall it took about an hour to move a one bedroom from a garden to a 3rd floor walk up and as my fiance and I unpack were not finding anything damaged or broken, and it cost far less than any other movers and not much more than a u-haul self move. Strong Arm Movers were extremely efficient, friendly and the price was right!!! I had to move my bedroom and front room furniture out of my Bucktown apartment and then to a new spot in the suburbs. Frank and his partner showed up and loaded their truck with my stuff in 30 minutes flat! They were then kind enough to follow me 25 miles out (at an additional charge, but it was sight compared to the $2 per mile other companies charge!) to the suburbs and had the truck unloaded in 15 minutes flat, it was pretty impressive! When they first arrived to my apartment in Bucktown, I had some boxes packed that I was going to move separately at a later time, but Frank insisted it would be no trouble at all to move the boxes and pack them in his truck, which they did. I appreciated that he offered and was willing to go the extra mile for great customer service. Strong Arm brought their own supplies, and covered and wrapped everything including my mattress, box spring, dresser and chaise couch. From the beginning I found it very easy to schedule my move: I called the number, Frank answered, I gave him my available dates and he was flexible with the time. I received a confirmation call (he left a voicemail) and text the day prior to our moving appointment. I would recommend Strong Arm Movers, and will likely use them again when I'm back in the city! I called a week ahead of time to book 2 movers and a small truck to move some large items out of my house. Half of it went to storage and the other half straight in to the alley. I live on the 3rd floor so there was a small charge for stairs which I was told about beforehand. Even with this charge their prices were really good. I got a call the day before to confirm which made me a little less anxious and they arrive within 4 minutes of 9am which was the time we planned. The movers, Robert and Jerry, were very friendly and got right down to work. They finished everything at one end in less than 30 minutes and were in the truck on their way to the other location right away. The whole move was one of the best and least stressful that I have ever had. Granted it wasn't a 3 bedroom apartment, but I can assuredly say that for my smaller move they were great. There were no surprises at the end, although I did write out a hasty receipt and have them sign it as they had no paperwork. But no upcharges, and no gas or travel charges. I rented my own truck so I just needed 2 or 3 guys to carry my stuff down 3 flights of narrow stairwell in my condo building into the truck. Two guys who were very nice and professional, handled the move on their own. Had about 15-20 boxes, queen size bed, couch, tv and some monitors, and a few other accessories. All moved from a 2bd condo to a three bd condo in a little over two hours. They saved me about 50% after tip, from what I would have paid other company's quotes, before tip!
