Set against the backdrop of KY horse country, each WC visit is an absolute treat. Slightly "out of sight, out of mind" Windy Corner is out in Paris but should not be discounted in the slightest. The food is amazing and there is something for everyone on the menu- carnivores & veggie-waters alike. Patrons order at the counter and take a number. Find a table (tell the clerk if you'll be dining outside) and the staff will bring out your food when it's ready. We chose to sit at a picnic table outside as it was a gorgeous day. I went with the "salad supper" where you pick from three deli salad served on top of greens. It was delicious and filling. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well- no complaints. First time patron. WCM has an authentic, genuine, Bluegrass look and feel. Catfish Po'Boy was lightly breaded with cornmeal and remoulade dressing had nice, mild heat bite. Friend o' mine shared a slice of fried green tomato. Nice tartness but small 'mater due to troublesome wet/dry intervals locally. The Country ham and cheddar cheese scone was really good but quite salty. Very KY-scenic drive to get here. read more

The lady that worked there started walking around checking on tables to kinda push the tables that were done eating to move along since they were sitting talking. We visited on a Saturday afternoon, and it was BUSY! I joked that there should be a sign in the line where you place your order that says, "45 minute wait from this point," like you might see at Disney World. We ordered fried pickles, a shrimp po boy, and a burger with bacon jam and beer cheese. We waited quite a while for our food. When it arrived, it looked and tasted delicious. This is such a cute place! Looks like it used to be someone's house. It's busy on weekends! I came once and got myself some type of po boy. It was really good! They've got a ton of different kinds so take your pick! The line can be long but moves quickly. It's a place worth checking out even though it's a bit far from the city center. It's cute though! Feels like grandma's house with the yellow painted walls and decor. Outside is lots of parking in their lot. There is also a horse farm across the street that was really calming to see. The drive here is beautiful! Born and raised in LA, I've never been surrounded by so much green farmland before. It was a surreal experience and I loved every minute of the commute! Even though I was driven here by the Meateater BF who was born and raised in Lexington, this was the first time either of us has been to Windy Corner Market. The nice woman working the cashier was super knowledgeable about the food items and ingredients. And when she didn't have the answers, she'd simply ask the kitchen staff. I inquired about the Tofu Boy for Topher Po-Boy and she was able to inform me that the BBQ sauce contains worcestershire sauce which has anchovies. She also knew that the special sauce is mayo-based. While the slaw is tossed in vinaigrette, the tofu is fried in the same fryer as the meats. Helpful piece of info for those of you with food allergies. I'm pretty sure the sauces are what give it the wow factor. What I was wowed by was the Black Bean and Corn Salad. It had this spicy chipotle flavor to it that I loved! In addition to this being a restaurant, Windy Corner Market also sells a lot of local goods and foods. There's even a small table with samples of various condiments and sauces sold in the store so that you can taste them first. Among the local goodies was Nectar Gourmet Pops which I was happy to see has a few vegan flavors. Sadly, I was way too stuffed for dessert. This Place is WAY out of the way, but it is packed on the weekends and for good reason. I have been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. For breakfast, I have tried the bacon Po Boy. Bring a big appetite if you order this, the sandwich is huge and it comes with homefries or hashbrowns. This particular visit was on a Sunday, after church at 1:30pm. The place was packed as usual. It was a little hard to get a table because so many people had eaten and were just "camping" at the tables. It happens. I blame the people, not the restaurant. First, the sauce that goes on the shrimp po boy is so freakin' good. I always order extra to dip my fries in. Then the pork sandwich was tender and messy--just the way I like it. Man, I love Windy Corner. I'm so glad I'm on good terms with my ex boyfriend again because he works here and I couldn't show my face for the whole 9 months we weren't speaking. That was another heartbreak in itself. I've explored the menu pretty extensively and nothing has been short of exceptional. Chef Ouita knows what she's doing. Everything is fresh and locally sourced. A little on the expensive side, sure, but I'm willing to pay for quality. Apparently other people are too, because the place is always packed despite being in the middle of nowhere. One of the best things about Windy Corner is that they offer an array of options whether you're looking for traditional Southern fare or something on the healthier side. A lot of similar restaurants fail in this respect. Their burgers are outstanding as are their fried seafood baskets (love the catfish, which comes with fries, hushpuppies, coleslaw and the most amazing remoulade), but just as good are their lighter dishes, like the salmon salad and salmon dinner (big salmon fan here). Lisa's Greek Orzo Salad and Pam's Healthy Grain Salad are both lovely sides. The potato salad is great too. You can't go wrong with the beer cheese and soft pretzels to start. I think I might be a masochist for writing this review at 3 am on an empty stomach. I have to put in a word for their ranch dressing. Supposedly all they do is add smoked tomato purée to it, but it's the best I've ever had, and I'm an unabashed ranch freak. I always make sure to get some to dip my fries into. People go nuts for the po-boys here, which I personally find too bready and hard to eat. My ex recommends getting them as wraps instead, which I'll definitely try in the future. read more

Delicious po'boys with fresh ingredients. Got recommended this place after I first moved here. Tried the shrimp and oyster po'boy first time I visited and the Kentucky boy the second time. Both times were delicious. The oyster had great flavor and tasted fresh. The oysters themselves did not taste too briney and just had a hint of that ocean flavor. The roast pork in the Kentucky boy was a little dry, but the fried pickles helped with that. Honestly, I would order a large dish of the fried pickles - they are easily one of my favorite things here. Also, nothing beats having a sandwich and beer while enjoying the nice outdoors of Kentucky. I do look forward to trying some of the other dishes and the burgers are likely the next thing I'll hit on the menu. read more

So I came in this afternoon on the way back from a few meetings and decided I needed to try Windy Corner! It's in such a beautiful area, even in the middle of winter. For example: as I ate my food, I observed a horse through the window eating his own lunch, and wondered whether he refers his favorite grass patches to friends. But I digress. Given it was Monday at 3, the wait for ordering and food was very quick! I got the Kentucky Boy and was thrilled by the amount of fried pickles on top. I love fried pickles, and then proceeded to sear the roof of my mouth off by eating them immediately. This sandwich was giant. I opened up some silverware to slim the sandwich to foldable size. Juicy pulled pork with three sauces and veg! The potato salad had great texture, and i think the dressing was sour cream based. With some ale8 it was a perfect lunch for a busy trip home! read more

Saturday late afternoon dinner for 7 yesterday and was looking forward to seeing and eating here for a while. It's busy I mean busy the ordering line never stopped in 2 hours plus we sat there. Lots of fried items and sandwiches. I opted for the ribeye steak that came with 2 sides. I'm kinda disappointed the steak very grisly thin and if it was 10oz's most of it was fat. Taste was very mediocre. I got the Sassy Sourgum Slaw and am still trying to figure out how it was such a let down. The Black Bean Corn Salad side however was delicious ate every kernel and wished I had ordered 2 of this item. Others choose fried shrimp and Po boys and chicken. Needed a spot to eat in Lexington before heading to the airport for my trip home. Looked at top things to do in Lexington and this restaurant was listed some decided to give it a try especially after all of the great reviews. So here goes. I'm going to give it 4 stars though it really falls at a 3.5 but rounding up cause I've heard the bun in a burger sometimes makes a difference and since I couldn't have a bun don't want to penalize Windy Corner by giving it 3 stars. And so yes, I had the Windy Corner burger and it was good, not great, but not the worst I've had (that would be in West Virginia). They forgot my cheese so it had to go back for it so that may have altered the temperature of the burger making it more cooked than I typically have it. The fries had a nice texture but could have been cooked a little more like the guy next to me had. His looked nice and crispy. What was really good was the "special" sauce! Staff was nice to no complaints there. If ever in Lexington again, I'd stop by again, why not, it was good. read more

The location is worth visiting just to see the refurbished store. The atmosphere feels like a country store with homemade baked goods. Went here for lunch take out today (October 3rd),and only live about 10 minutes away. I ordered banana pepper rings with blue cheese dressing. The dressing has a date of September 17th and is yellow from being so old. My sister got a shrimp po boy and fries and the sandwich was so messy it was impossible to eat and she said she didn't think you could mess up a shrimp sandwich but they managed to do that quite well. One of the best fast casual concepts I've visited. While they don't use the phrase "farm to table," they definitely do a phenomenal job of providing quality food that's designed to capture the local flavor of Kentucky and using as many local ingredients as possible. When I went for dinner on Saturday, I had to try the nightly special -- which the menu describes as "Stone Cross Farm Pork Chop Dinner Bone-in 6 ounce pork chops in sweet-and-spicy bourbon-sorghum marinade, griddle seared." The description doesn't do the food justice. The thin pork chops were seasoned and grilled to perfection. The imperfect shape of the chops confirmed to me that these were, indeed, locally sourced and not from some random food service supplier. The counter service option works great for Windy Corner. The counter staff are friendly and the orders come out quickly. More importantly, this option gives you the time to browse through the entire location -- because every nook and cranny is filled with local food options to take home. read more

Whenever my husband and I visit Lexington, we ALWAYS stop at Windy Corner. It's off the beaten path but, it's a beautiful drive through horse country to get there. We started out with the crispy, fried pickles with a smoked tomato dipping sauce. They were awesome. My husband tried a bowl of the bourbon trail chili. It was loaded with black and great northern beans, tomatoes, peppers, and jalapenos, simmered in a rich bourbon sauce. It had a nice little spice too. It was accompanied by a freshly made Weisenberger corncake. It was really good. For my entree, I ordered the fried catfish basket, that came with a nice remoulade sauce. It had a perfectly crispy cornmeal coating on the outside, and was tender and flaky inside. It came with hushpuppies, a really fresh black bean and corn salad, and a creamy, crispy slaw. It was all delicious! My husband ordered the bourbon barrel deluxe burger. It was topped with a bourbon bacon jam, bourbon barbecue sauce, and bourbon barrel beer cheese. It was big! It came with a side of Greek orzo salad, which was very refreshing. For dessert, I had the most decadent sour cream pie. I could eat it all day! With nightly specials and live music on Fridays, Windy Corner is a great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner for any occasion. With a variety of options my go to's are the breakfast poboy (in a wrap), fried pickles, the big blue burger (best burger I have ever had), and for a lighter option the salmon salad. I can definitely put that aside. Everyone has a bad day. The wait time for our food was very short in my opinion, especially since I ordered a steak. We ordered a steak and the meatloaf. The meatloaf portion was very small and my husband was still hungry after he finished it. My steak was very bland and my corn on the cob had a great taste but was severely over cooked.
