I generally get my cut and beard trim from Windy but have also seen Marie and have always been impressed and appreciative of their sense of quality and professionalism. They never rush but are still efficient. You can tell that Windy, in particular, is a true person of her craft. She breathes, sleeps, and thinks hair and knows how to approach each individual client's hair and will sometimes provide some of her expertise to her staff to ensure each client looks sharp when they leave. My daughter wanted a specific style and Windy's had come recommended. We went in today and it was comically adorable at how happy my daughter was with her new cut. This is a great little place. Windy obviously knows her stuff about hair and it was nice to see how engaging she was in conversation with my daughter. I would try and mention what kind of cut you are looking for when scheduling your appointment as she can help arrange the right stylist and time-frame to accommodate the job. I mention that because on our first visit a few weeks ago, my daughter changed her mind right before the cut. We could have re-scheduled, but went with the original plan and got a great cut. Next level cuts going on over here. I moved to Seattle a little over three years ago. I'd had the same barber in Montana for 6 years, and was skeptical about letting anyone else touch my hair. I called the closest place to me in wallingford wanting an immediate cut, which thankfully was booked, and told me to go up the street to a competitor, but only if Wendi was working. Thankfully I listened. When I moved across town, I continued driving to wallingford to have Wendi cut my hair. When a friend from college moved here, I brought him along, and now we both go there monthly. When wendi moved to ballard, we followed in suit, even though it added another 3 miles each way. When i arrive, i'm greeted with a beer, some video games, tunes, and some solid barber talk. Wendi is one of those barbers that knows more about what's happening in my life than my family, which is legit. On top of all the cool stuff I said above, she gives legit cuts and hair/beard/product advice. She's grown back some thinning areas, helped me up my beard game, and is said to be working on a cure for cancer in her spare time. Windy is an amazing shop owner and a fantastic barber. She has been a hairdresser for almost 20 years and is by far the best barber I have ever had. The shop atmosphere is perfect. There is a tv with several of the antique game consoles hooked up with several hundred games. I tried several of the games and it brought back several childhood memories of playing games with my father. When you sit in the barber seat and tell Windy what you want, she is very intuitive. I told her I had just gotten out of the Air Force and was looking to keep the military feel while changing my appearance. I wanted longer hair and but didn't want to have to style my hair every day. She started cutting my hair and as she started styling my hair transformed into a masterpeice. I noticed my hair take shape and when she had finished it was almost perfect. I told her I wanted a little left in the front to spike and the sides to be a bit shorter. After she finished it was perfect. Windy has a vast worldly knowledge and is a master hairdresser. We conversed the entire time on a range of topics. We talked politics, military standings, her history and travels as well as my own, and her adventure onto opening her own small business. She told me of her family's military times and asked me of my own journeys in the Air Force. She told me of the several countries she visited and I told her of my own journeys to Kuwait and the United Arab Emirate capital of Dubai as well as Frankfort Germany. She told me she had always wanted to own her own hair salon and finally achieved her goal. I was very imeressed with her assistant as well who was very friendly and also knowledgeable. She set me up with my appointment when I walked in and took before and after pictures for the website. She set me up with a card for my next haircut and I will be back soon. This is by far the best Barber Shop in Ballard and possibly all Seattle. I will never go to another Salon. My only remark would be to make sure to call and set an appointment in advance. You may have a little wait if you do not as there is only one to two hairdressers working at a time. Even with the wait you can have fun playing nintendo 64, atari, or sega genesis. I would recommend Windy's to any of my friends and will always come back as long as I am in Seattle. read more

I've lived in Seattle for about a year, and have paid up to $50 for a cut I just haven't felt great about... at more than one shop around the city. I've been so nervous to get my hair cut in Seattle that I've actually timed my visits to family back in my home town around getting my hair cut more than once so I could go to my trusted old shop. But after coming to terms with the reality that that isn't a realistic option, I came to Windy's, and the cut I got was better than where I used to go before coming to Seattle. They took their time, had more than one set of eyes look over my hair before getting started to make sure they knew they were approaching it the best way possible, and were overall very friendly and hospitable. A year ago, on a whim, I called Windy's Barber Lounge in last ditch attempt to get my hair cut. Windy told me that she was booked solid for that night but would call me if anything opened up. A few hours later she called and told me she had an opening. When I got there, I was greeted warmly and was beckoned to the barber chair. Windy took the time to explain to me why I was having issues with my hair, what I could do to curb those issues (dandruff and dry scalp, and super thick hair). I also wanted to get something fresh and new. I'd been going to the same stylist for a few years and was unhappy with the drab head of hair I'd been sporting for a while. She agreed that my hairstyle was out of fashion and boring and asked me if she could take a chance and do something that she felt would look modern and fantastic. And that's exactly what she did. She also took the time to get to know how my hair. I know that sounds silly, but she really did. Unlike past experiences where I'd go into a Super Cuts and 10 minutes later my hair is cut, Windy took 45 - 60 minutes and really created a masterpiece of my head-fur. When I got home from my hair appointment with Windy, my girlfriend immediately jumped me and we had crazy good sex. Simpy put, Windy is a hair whisperer. All said and done, Windy is a complete professional. She's got this laid back, ex-punk vibe that makes you just feel cool in her presence. Windy's team is also fantastic. I used to go to Rudy's (aka Supercuts for hipsters) but lately the wait times have grown too long, the quality too inconsistent and the prices too high. I saw this place had opened recently, was just down the street and had great reviews on Yelp. I made an appointment and Windy did a great job. My wife loves the result and even with a generous tip it was less than Rudy's. Sweet!! My one tip is to make an appointment. Technically they take walk-ins but it's a one person shop which seems to have quite a following so I wouldn't plan on them having an opening of you wall in. read more

I've been going to Windy for 2 years, and followed her from her old location to this one- which is very cool! As a business guy who travels a lot, I like to have simple clean quick haircuts and often need to be worked in on the fly. Windy has great barber skills,she pays incredible attention to detail (it's like she custom cuts every hair individually!) always makes me look good and feel confident before important customer and business meetings, and always makes sure to work me in to her busy schedule. I've always wanted to get my haircut by a barber, but was worried that I would feel out of place as a femme who nonetheless wants a butch haircut (not something I assume most barbers are going to really understand, though I could be wrong). One day I was walking by and noticed Windy's shop and it looked promising, especially after checking out all the 5-star reviews. Those reviews are legit! I've gotten probably a dozen cuts from Windy and they were all perfect. She is not only intuitive, but she takes the time to figure out what you want with zero judgement. I was previously paying over $70 at Vain and getting treated like garbage for not being cool enough for them. In contrast, you can walk into Windy's and be treated like family. Everyone who has ever cut my hair has had a really hard time understanding what I mean by saying some variance of "I want my hair to scream 'queer' even if the rest of me doesn't," but Windy got it. She let me show her some pictures of what I wanted and talked it out with me. Every hair stylist I've ever tried that with has looked at the pictures and then did what they think looks best on me instead, which sometimes works out but usually just means I look 20 years older. Instead, Windy gives me exactly what I ask for, but better, because she thinks one or two haircuts ahead and will let you know if she thinks a different approach will serve you better. She understands hair more than anyone I've ever met, so her haircuts grow out really well. Her prices are great, which makes it easy to go in frequently to have everything cleaned up, but it's nice to not have to go in just because my hair is growing out weird. Her skill is evident four weeks after a haircut, not just 4 days after. read more
