Met up with a friend here for a quick drink and this place is so great. I had been here before but this time it was nice to actually see the place on a normal night. There was a steady number of people coming in for dinner while I was there. The owner/bartender was super cool and helpful when it came to picking out a quick bite. I ended up trying the chicken pintxo and I had a charcuterie board as well. I'm not as much of a drinker anymore but they had such a great selection of wines here that I would have been able to choose from a wide variety. The chicken pintxo was great. It had a really good flavor. The skewers were shorter which was nice to try to get the food off. The bread was great and they were a really great bite. The charcuterie board had the usual components and I ate it quickly before I could get the photo, but it also had sour patch gummy bears on it which was incredibly cool. I was happy with the cheddar, brie, and assorted meats but the gummy bears made it unique and fun. I will definitely be coming back here to try more of the menu next time. read more

This spot is perfect for a cozy date night or an evening out with friends. The ambiance is warm, and there's a comfortable outdoor area with tables and chairs. While the covering does a great job of shielding you from the sun, we discovered that it's not quite sufficient for heavy rain. We ordered a bottle of Montepulciano--a bolder, pleasant wine that paired wonderfully with the stuffed mushrooms and charcuterie board we selected. Although the menu listed the wine as a 2015 vintage, we received a 2019 bottle. The bartender was courteous about the mix-up, and we decided to stick with the 2019. The charcuterie board comes in three sizes, and we opted for the medium one. If you're unsure about the portion sizes, I've included a picture with this review. The charcuterie was an excellent choice, with the olives and cheeses being particular standouts. We also enjoyed the sausage-stuffed mushrooms, which were delicious. Overall, this is a lovely and comfortable place for light snacks and drinks. We look forward to returning in the future. read more

Such a little treasure just around the corner from almost everyone. Wine on Hertel is a charming relaxing environment that has a little of everything. You can have a lovely meal or play a board game while munching on a charcuterie platter and sipping a beverage with friends. And if you want to just run in and grab some of the amazing selections of gourmet vinegars and olive oils, avocado oil and other types of oils. Along with some pastas for dinner or a jar of olives for a gift to take to a dinner, they have all these things. It's a cozy place for friends or dates and they also have a charming outdoor covered , walled garden out front for warmer weather. The charcuterie plate I tasted was delicious, with mild squares of feta cheese with pesto on them and absolutely delicious olives. And I'm not even an olive person and I ate every one of them!! I had to take some pumpkin cheesecake that I can only describe as nothing like any other dense heavy cheesecake I've ever had but absolutely deliciously satisfying! I'm also guilty of taking home a flourless chocolate torte that was made with a special nut-less fruit that mimics a nut but is safe for anyone with nut allergies! Now please forgive for not having all the wonderful descriptions that I got from Justin, the owner, about this but I forgot it all when the fork reached my mouth. I also couldn't resist a bottle of dill vinegar and honey ginger vinegar along with a Spanish olive oil that was described as having floral notes. I'm really looking forward to my favorite thing to use these on, simple steamed mixed vegetables!! If you live around Wine on Hertel and haven't stopped in yet, definitely do it you'll be glad you did. If you don't live close by it's really worth the drive, and plan on spending more time then you think you will. read more

What a great place for a snack and a glass --before or after a movie? Before or after dinner on the Avenue? For a pleasant change of pace? WOH is a WOW for a great choice of wines and beers, paired, or not, with tapas. Awesome desserts, too. Wine on Hertel is itself paired with House of Olives. I can't think of a more perfect combo. Not sure what wine you'd like? Enjoy a taste to sample. Vinegars and oils? All the varieties have tasting cups for your pleasure. While there last evening, I sampled the Raspberry and Pomegranate Vinegars. Both delicious. Justin explained that the vinegars are all balsamic, infused with essence of fruits. Being diabetic, I checked and found that balsamic vinegar is 2.4 grams sugar per tablespoon. I generally have a daily tablespoon of raspberry flavored vinegar (Trader Joe's) which has 4 sugars per tablespoon. Looking forward to cutting the sugar while enjoying a balsamic vinegar. The Malbec I had last night was the best I ever had, delicious and smooth. And I loved the bacon-wrapped stuffed dates, and also the Pepper spread with goat cheese. In addition to a couple of delicious vinegars, I sampled the walnut infused olive oil. Loved it. Wine on Hertel and House of Olives is not just a sipping, snacking, gaming, visiting, chatting place. It's also a gift shop. I couldn't help perusing the stuffed olives, the many varieties of infused vinegars and oils without thinking about Christmas. But maybe it's just that time of year. read more

This is my favorite place to go as an after dinner spot on a rare date night with the hubs. The bar is nice and cozy with big roomy seats. The wine list is just long enough, and owner, Justin, is very helpful with finding you the right wine for your tastes. They've got a bunch of board games you can take out - we played Jenga right on the bar, but it was like Jenga bonus because they put wine trivia on each piece. Additionally, they recently grew by adding a new Chef - Chef Martin - to the team. They've add a very tempting tapas menu and some drool worthy desserts. We tried the pumpkin cheesecake and tiramisu, and WOW. Both were SO good! The cheesecake was warm and had the perfect consistency. It wasn't overwhelmingly pumpkin either. The tiramisu was uh-mazing. I can't wait to have it again! They definitely just next-leveled themselves with this new menu! I can't wait to go back with an empty stomach to try a bunch of the tapas. read more

This is a really nice spot that I'm glad I got to check out. Wine on Hertel is more than wine. It's a very chill place with a nice atmosphere for either a group of friends or a more intimate gathering. Think offer spot with alcohol. They have a nice wine list with a unique cocktail menu. They don't have hard liquor but they do have beer if you're not a wine person. They also have a large variety of oils, a few tapas, and decent desert menu. I got the riesling and the new age white wine blend. They were both crisp and delicious. They were also the sweetest of the white wines. I was told the red wines were more on the dry end. I also got the apple cider and prosecco which definitely reminded me of fall. AND I CANNOT FORGET THE HOUSE MADE TIRAMISU *chef's kiss*. They have gender neutral restrooms. If you know how parking is on Hertel be prepared because there is no parking lot. There's a decent amount of seating and there is a bar area if you decide to check them out alone. I will definitely be back with friends to try one of their many charcuterie board sizes and play some board games! read more

Stopped in for date night a few weeks ago and really enjoyed our time! It was our first time here, and we would certainly come back. A quiet and quaint atmosphere, walking in to instantly felt warm and cozy, but in a sophisticated flavor. I've never been to Wine on Hertel until a few nights ago (I've always been so intrigued to stop in, but just never made the trip)! I'm so glad that I stumbled in. The bartenders were super friendly and they have an array of wines for you to choose from. Don't let the name fool you, if you're not into wine, they have an extensive beer list for you to choose from as well! I loved the pint glass that my husband had for his beer, so I went out on a whim to see if I was able to buy one to take home, and the bartender let me! The outdoor section was filled based on social distancing, but they had a really nice area that I would love to check out next time. As a random note, the restrooms are unisex and they're super clean! I'm definitely looking forward to my next visit to Wine on Hertel! read more

I came here with three friends last night and it was so worth it!!! The waiter/employee offered my table samples of wine, so we could make the right choice on what we wanted. His name is Justin and he's the owner. (I randomly asked him that, after he poured me another sample.) They have a nice bar area and an area for larger parties, near their olive oils. My friends and I sat in between those two areas. (There were coat hooks on the wall, near where we were seated.) There are board games on a small stand in between the two restrooms. I ended up deciding on the New Age wine. It's a white blend. It was fantastic. A friend ordered a small charcuterie board. It had varied meats and cheeses as well as grapes, almonds, and olives. It was so delicious!!! Justin had a larger party and people at the bar to take care of but he stopped by often enough to take care of my friends and I. I wanted to get some dessert to go. I ordered the chocolate mousse but was brought a piece of cheesecake. The owner overheard me asking if I ordered the cheesecake. He apologized and said I could keep it and he would bring me the chocolate mousse cake. I said it wasn't a big deal but he insisted. Both were fantastic. Why did it take me so long to get here? Olive Oils + Wines + Light Bites = a nice low key (for now until it gets more popular) wine bar on Hertel. AKA Wine on Hertel. I stopped in here on Friday with a friend before going to see a movie at North Park Theatre. So full disclosure: I don't drink alcohol, so what the hell am I doing reviewing a wine bar? Purely from a hangout and cozy sort of atmosphere: this place is fantastic. My friend enjoyed the wines and had the "Wine Flight" from their menu where you pick any four wines to try. While they didn't have anything that was interesting and non-alcoholic, I settled on water and some chocolates. Their food menu looked interesting: meatballs, charcuterie, a cheeseboard; simple, but exactly what you would expect when coming here to hang out before a show, to catch up with a friend and nurse some wine. In this place, you feel immediately relaxed and at home. While the other bars on Hertel are overly noisy and you may find it difficult to find a seat on a Friday evening, you won't have to fight anyone for a seat at Wine on Hertel yet and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a nice low-key spot to hang out! read more

We ordered a banana pepper goat cheese dip and a cheese plate with meats. Both were so amazing! The service is what really impressed me. Kevin was the bartender and Justin is the owner. Super cute place with a wine list of about 20 choices... reds, whites, and mini bottles of prosecco. And, they do wine flights. The guy who owns the place is behind the bar..... and he is the son (I think) of the owner of the olive oil shop (The House of Olives) that shares the space. So (according to him) all of the menu items incorporate the oils and vinegars sold in the store. I was kind of surprised when the prosecco I ordered was originally going to be served to me in a white wine glass instead of a flute, but when I requested the proper glassware, it was given. The split-sized bottle of prosecco was nothing special, but it was what I was in the mood for. The food menu consists of small plates. Things like a charcuterie board, and meatballs, and brushchetta, and nachos..... Two of us decided to share the brushchetta (five slices of bread topped with diced roma tomatoes, onion, fresh basil, and cheese). It was just fair. The bread was on the greasy side and it was drizzled with a bit too much balsamic vinegar for my taste. Cute place.... but it could use a bit of tweaking. Street parking only. read more

Loved this place! I tried to come last summer but didn't realize they don't normally open til 4pm so I finally had the chance to go last weekend. They have red or white options along with sparking or rose option. They also had two cocktail options. I decided to go with a flight where you get to pick four different wines for $16. I was in a dry red mood so I asked the bartender (and owner) for his top picks. He poured his four favorites and I really liked his choices. They also have a very generous pour so you really get to try the wine. My favorite by far was the Malbec. If I was in the mood to drink red when visiting again I would get a full glass of this. My mom got the iced wine cocktail with fresh fruit and it was great! If you're more a cocktail person this would be option for you. I realized after I ordered they also have wine slushies (!!) so I will be going back. They do have a food menu but we had just eaten and opted to not get food. I really liked this location-it's small and quaint-great place for a date or for a drink with friends. They also have games if you wanted to play them. They do live music on Fridays as well. This is a great addition to Hertel. It's connected to House of Olives and share owners I think. They make great use of the space. They have a pretty diverse set of choices, from a white Reisling to a red Cab. They have a house made sangria too. There is a limited menu which we didn't sample, but we saw a meatball plate and it looked tasty. The feeling here is very comfortable. It's a welcoming space and a nice stop along Hertel. Wine on hertel is still one of my favorite places in all of Buffalo. We've had countless nights here and it all started with a random game night out pre-covid. Some drinks and games turned into meeting the owner of the establishment and we can see why wine on hertel is so thoughtfully done. The owner is very eclectic and has a real vision for their establishment and they're creating, in my opinion, a perfect atmosphere for memories to be created. We went here with a group of friends. Great location with easy access to other restaurants and we enjoyed the atmosphere. I wasn't terribly impressed by the wines and unfortunately one of the women in our group found a beetle floating in her wine. The bartender tried to say that it was a grape. "My grape has legs". Hurts to do this because I really really want to love this place. They have a GREAT wine selection, and they do live music on Friday nights. It's cozy, and being on Hertel it's a lovely atmosphere for a Friday night. The staff however, ruined my first experience to a point where I don't know that I'll return. From my understanding, it is family owned, and has a small staff. I walked in with a friend of mine on a whim after the Little Club was too packed to attempt. We looked over the menu, and she ordered a flight while I opted for a glass of Petite Syrah. The bartender checked our IDs, which is to be expected as we are both in our young 20s. When the bartender took my ID, he exclaimed, quite loudly, "is this new?? it looks so much lighter than mine! I don't think it's fake, but what's up with this??" and pulled out his own wallet, and inspected his ID along side mine for an uncomfortably extended period of time. I should add, I am VERY fair skinned, and he was talking about the difference in exposure of our pictures. The bar was full and this behavior was not only unwelcome, but embarrassing and odd. I did not accept this warmly, and made it very clear I was displeased. I paid for my glass of wine and closed the tab, as my mind was made up that I would not be staying right then and there. He definitely picked up on this, and responded not by apologizing, but by acting rude towards me for the duration of our stay and blatantly FLIRTING with my friend. The bar was filled with young people, and he was very chatty toward them and even walked around the bar to "bro hug" a friend. I do not look "underage", and if anything, older than I am. My license is NYS enhanced, this entire experience was just very bizarre. It's very concerning to think that a business owner would behave in this manner. There is enough great wine spots in the area to skip this one in the future. read more
