We went to The Gypsy Parlor for the first time for open mic night. I love the decor that's like junk Gypsy, very eclectic, kind of Victorian with cowboy jibes. We sat in the back, not at the bar, and the waitress was still attentive. Usual pub fare on the menu with some twists, bahn mi poutine being one of those. We got fries and chicken wing egg rolls. I will say that the hand cut fries were probably the crispest I've ever had. I usually find hand cut fries soggy, but these were amazing. The drink menu was also eclectic, and they'll make any drink a mocktail, which is good for the DD. Gypsy Parlor for brunch on Sunday. I really like it there. I've never had a bad meal and it has such a cool vibe. First time for brunch, the staff is always attentive. My Bloody Caesar was perfect with Clamato, a couple of stuffed olives and a large shrimp hanging off the rim. Good menu and I had the pulled pork and sweet potato hash. Nicely seasoned with a fried egg on top. K had the giambotta vegetarian version. We both enjoyed it very much. They had a number of tables going and there is always a few at the bar. This is a neat place with dining/bar service. Bar is in front and dining in back. Service was excellent and we were well taken care of. My young son liked the Zoltar fortune teller machine and playing around with the electronic darts. Menu has a great selection of eclectic choices. My husband got their version of a trasher plate and my son got the chicken noodle soup while I got their chicken tikka masala plate. We ordered deep fried pickles as an appetizer. Went to Gypsy Parlor to see my mother, Peggy Farrell, sing with the John Bacon, Trio. Of course the music was great and I've seen her there many times. However, this time I actually ate dinner, as did two women that were at my table. The food is delicious. Anyone who thinks of the Gypsy Parlor as just a bar should start thinking of it as a great restaurant, as well. The menu has a wide selection of dishes from traditional fish fry and steak to Latin, Caribbean and Asian plates. All the food we had was very good. The Chicken Noodle sou was different in a good way. I had the Creole Fettuccine. Not to spicy, just right. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. My wife had the Cuban Pork which she loved. We also tried their Gypsy Juice. Our young lady server was terrific, however we were there for almost an hour and a half before we got our entrees. This is way too long and unexceptionable. We would love to try other menu items but the chairs are not very comfortable to wait that long for the main course. The drinks and staff were really wonderful! The issue was open mic night. The host played a bunch of religious music like "Lord Have Mercy, Christ Have Mercy" and other Christian/Gospel music. There are a lot of non-preachy Christian songs but they went full church choir. The least religious song he played was "Hallelujah" which is also a real bummer of song to play in a bar. It was very awkward and kind of offensive. We are Jewish and left the stage area to hangout at the bar to finish our drinks and leave. The signature gypsy juice is a great adult bevvy that will tantalize your taste buds with a tart Shirley temple like taste with notes of sweet syrup and florals. We ordered things to share at the table including small fries (which was a hefty serving), bahn mi poutine, buffalo chicken spring rolls, and plantains. Fries are crispy, perfectly salted, and come in great portion sizes and were also the perfect base for the poutine. WOW this poutine was AMAZING! The flavours of the brisket and cheese were well executed and balanced (this is coming from a Canadian who knows her poutine) and perfectly complimented the gently pickled veg and bahn mi flavours. Not to be forgetton is the MASSIVE buffalo spring rolls... like literally the size of a fist with 2 per a serving, loaded with spicy buffalo chicken, blue cheese chunks and served over beautiful mesclun and a side of blue cheese of course. A lovely addition to the meal was the plantains, they are a sweetly sautéed version, not fried patties like many are use to and complimented the meal perfectly. Such a fun and delicious time with great service and great prices. We came in for their monthly Jazz Jam (the first Monday of every month!) and made a reservation beforehand so we had a perfect view of the band playing. The night was very relaxing and we loved listening to everyone play. The food was beyond good! I was not expecting it to be so good from a bar but wow! There was so much flavor in everything. Our friend who ordered the ramen said it was the best he's ever had. 2 of us ordered the shrimp tacos and loved them. I went with the trash plate (I had to! I'm from outside Rochester so it's only right). Although it's not a traditional garbage plate, this is a fancier take on one and the best I've ever had in Buffalo. I would absolutely order it again. They have a good cocktail list and most of them could be made into mocktails so I was able to get myself a blackberry margarita mocktail! The restaurant receives great reviews for its food and ambience. The ambience part I get, but the food was fair at best. We went for Father's Day brunch. The owner or manager greeted us at the bar. He was very nice. We had a beef Pastillio as an appetizer and that was good. There were two orders of pancakes, which were OK. We had a side order of sausages, which were burnt to a crisp. My son had eggs over hard which were completely burnt. I had eggs Benedict, and the English muffin was charred as well as the Canadian bacon. I couldn't eat it, it was so bitter. The egg on top and the Hollandaise sauce was cooked properly. But the side of potatoes was old and had maybe three slices of red pepper that was thrown in. I'm assuming for a color. Was not good. One son had the Gambotta. It was okay, but a very sparse portion, and only had one piece of toast. The bartenders were covering table service in the dining room, and the bartender was very nice. I asked for a fresh pot of coffee, and was told I had to wait 15-20 minutes until they went through the pot that was already brewed, that he told me he was over 10 minutes old. We were never asked how our food was. I'm not sure I would've said how bad it was, because everyone was so nice, and I wasn't sure there was a real cook in the kitchen that day, who could make it any better. It has great reviews, but I couldn't even give the food a good one. I would come back to have a drink at the bar and probably order finger foods, which I have a feeling are much better. But the food they were putting out on Sunday for brunch was horrible. It was not cheap. I spent almost $80 with tip and we had no drinks other than one cup of coffee. I'm disappointed, as I hoped that it would be great. I tried to support the neighborhood, but I should've gone to a hotel brunch, to hopefully receive better food. read more

I frequent here - pretty much every week so I'm probably partial but I had to review the Crunchwrap that was recently on special. Soooo delicious and loaded with meat and fillings. I've had a lot of food from here, usually wings but I've never had bad food. My other favorite special recently was the birria eggrolls and they were huge! It somehow took me a few years to check out Gypsy Parlor, well shame on me! I love the vibe in here - it is full of positive energy with neat decorations and a fairly interesting layout. There's also a cool/funny chandelier with BRAS on it when you walk in HA! Anyway, the place is fairly spacious - there's a large bar in front, a dining room in the back, and there's a neat billiard room on the side! I wish I had a home with a cool room like that... The drink menu is impressive. I had a "New Fashion" since I love bourbon-based drinks and it was excellent. My friend had a margarita which she was happy with (I'm personally not a fan, but to each their own). Meanwhile, the food was a pleasant surprise! We ordered a burger and spicy shrimp tacos, and both were fantastic. I was especially impressed with how tasty and well-cooked the burger was - I am picky. The shrimp tacos were full of flavor and did not taste fishy. Lastly, the staff was kind and attentive the entire time. They were able to accommodate our large group. I've thought about this steam pot everyday since I saw it on Gypsy's menu 3 weeks ago. Crab legs, mussels, shrimp, corn on the cob and potatoes in a piping hot pot of broth. All proper dining etiquette went out the window once I tasted that broth... I was literally covered in broth lmao. I even dipped the garlic bread in it! If I wasn't so stuffed by the time I ate all of the seafood I would've gladly drank it - THATS how good and flavorful it was. We started with a house salad with Gorgonzola cheese and their house dressing which I'm also now a major fan of. Shoutout to Felicia for being such a dope server/bartender. She remembered that I like my pickle back shots. based on the number of responses I received on my snaps of this gift to us all; I will be back VERY soon for more! 10 million/10 would recommend! They also have delicious vegan options folks, like their vegan ribs and vegan fried chicken sandwich! They also have specials for the night, full entrees of deliciousness! Crowd wise it can be hoping or totally empty and waiting for you depending on the time of day, me and my friend usually do the early bird time like a granny of 5 o'clockish on a Friday or Saturday night and we usually have full pickings of places to sit. Hands down, if you're looking for delicious food late at night, The Gypsy Parlor doesn't disappoint. Their kitchen is open until midnight daily and then there is a late night menu from 12a-3am. Everyday there is something going on; from trivia to poetry to open mic night, there's not one day of the week where some form of activity is not planned. I had dinner here at the bar with a friend and really enjoyed my meal. I found the entire menu affordable and accessible. The biggest surprise was how much I enjoyed their ramen. Was it perfect? No, but it was damn good and flavorful that I'll forgive the egg not being soft boiled as is proper in a ramen. The noodles aren't as firm or ramen-y, but the flavor of the broth is a 10/10 and there are generous helpings of pork, mushrooms and ginger flavor as well. The seafood boil looked amazing at $18 and I definitely want to come back for that. The dessert called the Papanasi is a must have. A Romanian donut with cottage cheese, preserves and all the fixings. It is so good! All in all, for late night quality food - The Gypsy Parlor is the place to be. Definitely a cool and funky bar. The place is in the corner and no parking area so just try to find parking around in the neighborhood. My friends ordered breakfast sandwich. I forgot the name of my other friend ordered. My boyfriend and I splitting the naan pizza that was very good. Naan bread topped with chorizo, potatoes, scallions and sunny side up egg and fruits-- strawberries, blackberries and blueberries. Best dessert in all of Buffalo: 3 apple fritters with whipped cream, sliced green apple, cinnamon, and bacon that honestly blew our minds. Hands down - the most delicious thing we have eaten all year. Let's work our way backwards thru the meal: the veggie stuffed sandwich was alright - a bit too olive filled for our taste. The Gypsy Parlor was at the Taste of Diversity festival today even though their brick and mortar store isn't opening until the fall. We ran into people raving about their stuffed bread sandwiches and recommended we try them, "if you eat meat." We stopped by anyway to say hi and see how the plans were going. As we were chatting, he told us he did in fact have vegan option. We were so delighted! The owner, Todd, pulled a foil wrapped oblong packet with "vegan" written across the top. He unwrapped it and sliced off this round Stromboli looking stuffed bread. It had eggplant, artichokes, and kalamata olives. The artichokes weren't from a can or jar; they were the real deal. The stuffed bread was delicious. I am looking forward to seeing this place join the other businesses on Grant. read more

Made a reservation for the outside patio, b/c it was a nice day- showed up and said we had a reservation. They asked, "inside or outside," and I said "outside, preferably." And for reasons I cannot comprehend, this answer shook up both the bartender and the server to their core. They could not comprehend that I would answer the question that they prompted. The server just began talking s**t to us for some reason. The other woman who asked us if we wanted outside or inside never responded back to me and just stared at us while we waited by the bar. It took 20 minutes for another man to finally say they have a seat for us- and it was in the back of the bar with no windows. It was just odd. The whole thing was confusing. Either way, I would not recommend this place for brunch, at all. No need to make reservations, as they are absolutely useless. And, for the love of all things that are holy, if they ask you if you would rather sit inside or outside, DO NOT say "outside," or the bar staff/servers will all have a collective meltdown that will be very bewildering to see. They had an opportunity to make a few new happy customers, and they decided, "no, we won't do that. We don't like more money." If I could give 0 stars I would. I am so in love with the ambiance here. Five years after my first review, and my feelings haven't changed. I've been here plenty of times since then but I should definitely make these visits more frequent. This time I ordered the Cuban Pork, and it was incredible. For a second, I almost insisted that my friend taste it. Then it occurred to me that I didn't want to share and that a mere taste would be a tease, certainly leaving one to wanting more. Both the pork and the beans were infused with so much flavor. The sweet plantains were a delicious little side too. That dish was plenty but I had already made the decision to treat myself to a Papanasi for dessert. Wow! I don't even know how to describe it...fried crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, creamier as you move towards the center...complemented with a fresh, berries, jam, and whipped cream. Just wow. In addition to great food, drink, and atmosphere, Gypsy Parlor hosts both comedy and poetry events, among other things--but the spoken word arts are dear to my heart.
