6/28/25 Ate List: Crispy Chicken Salad - 5.8 Mostly confusing. Came to Federal Galley out of necessity. Vendor was the only one with a salad on a particularly warm and humid day. The level of customization might be a draw for some. For me, to have no "signatures" or recommendations, no preferred combinations, and just a sort of "pick it" approach for this feels strange. Asked for some direction, was basically told "no." They specialize in hot chicken and customization - but it feels like they are clearly missing a refreshing option beyond the Dill Pickle. Could see if I didn't want to "feel a burn" and wasn't big on pickles looking at very plain options. Frankly, they need someone new on the register. Other reviews mention poor service that way. I echo their feelings. Underwhelmed and turned off by them. Also, this is overpriced. Getting a diet coke for $3.5 is aggressive but at any restaurant I'd understand - get me free refills, fine. But to be handed a single can for that cost felt awful. Feel like they've taken that approach across cost and experience across the board. It's upsetting. If they really switch things up, I'd reconsider trying this spot again. Chicken was good and in the salad it was fine. I see potential. But I'm not coming back for the cost or the service here. The Federal Galley is one of my favorite places to go for happy hour or a drink before a Pirates game. I don't typically get the food because it's a little pricey, but I has the opportunity to sit down long enough to order food. I ended up getting the Cory Muro from Given to Fly! The sandwich rocked! It was a giant chicken breast tossed in buffalo sauce with Parmesan on top. It wasn't too spicy which allowed for the buffalo flavor to shine. After the tax and tip the sandwich was priced at around $18. I personally wouldn't order this every time because of the price but it was a nice treat. Definitely made for a great experience while watching the pirates on the tv! read more

I got there too late to try the Mac 'n' Cheese, but I'll be going back soon to experience it. The waffle fries were plentiful and very tasty. There was just a short wait time after I ordered. I remember when the owner was making sandwiches and selling online long before this space at Federal Galley. How great it is to have this concept kitchen as part of the Galley. I really dig the Nashville Chicken. The spice is just at that level of near-perfection. Even the Plain Jane is delish (minus the mayo, of course). Food is always cooked to perfection with flavors that are unique and memorable. The waffle fries are never soggy and come in abundance. It's a really nice restaurant to visit because you get exposed to a very welcoming environment mixed with the other establishments. read more

I have been waiting for so long to try out Given to Fly and when I won one of their social media contests, I went right away. I noticed that their line seemed to be longest inside Federal Galley and there's a reason: it's worth it. Aside from the crab rangoon fries I received for free, friends and I ordered some chicken fingers and tots that came with a bacon cheddar dip. Every single thing we had was crunchy, fresh and tasted delicious. I'd recommend the crab rangoon fries 10 times over -- they come with a cream cheese crab mixture, green onions and sweet chili sauce. They have tons of other fry combinations and such a variety of chicken sandwiches that I'd love trying as well. read more

Is the food good? Probably. Will your experience be better? I truly hope so. I placed a simple order for 3 chicken tenders and fries at 5:01 PM. About 30 minutes later, a chicken sandwich came out--something I didn't order. I politely showed the server my receipt on my phone, and he responded, "Let me check on this and see if I can get that for you." As if he needed permission to correct the mistake? Odd, but okay. The server returned and said it would be 10 mins. Another 30 minutes passed with no food. I went up to the counter and asked to cancel my order. The response? A snappy "What order?!" from the staff in the back. After showing my receipt again, it became clear they never even started making my meal. They begrudgingly processed a refund--no apology, no acknowledgment, just handed me the receipt and walked away. Rude is an understatement. If you order from Given to Fly, I sincerely hope your experience is better than mine. They'll never get my business again. Hospitality is about providing a welcoming and respectful experience--these staff members may want to reconsider their approach or their career path, because this was anything but that. read more

Given to Fly is one of several food options inside of a food hall. The food hall itself is very clean and well maintained. When you enter, you can grab a pitcher of water and bring it to any open table. Each table has a QR code where you order from. Our food was brought out fairly quickly. I ordered a chicken sandwich and fries from Given to Fly. The chicken on the sandwhich was extra thick and tasted great. The fries were seasoned well. I do wish that the fries came with the sandwich because it's a little on the pricy side. Either way, the food was great and the atmosphere was fun. read more

Came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I got the Nashville ranch chicken tenders with fries. The portion is huge! The ranch is so good, I wish it came with more. The jalapenos gave some nice spice. The waffle fries were super crispy. The chicken tender meat was breast, I think, so a little dry, but the coating was crispy. Definitely needed the ranch. read more

We ordered takeout from Given to Fly, located inside of Federal Galley. We ordered a plain Jane (mayo and pickles) chicken sandwich and the crab Rangoon fries. The service was great- the lady taking our order was super friendly and helpful. Our food took around 10-15 to prepare which was fine especially since it was busy that night. The chicken sandwich lacked a bit for me. The positive is that it was a nice sized piece of chicken and it was cooked great. However the flavor was lacking. I think the chicken needs some seasoning. However... those crab Rangoon fries?! I will order from Given to Fly again and again for those fries. They are large so one order is definitely shareable for multiple people. I stopped by here a couple of Thursdays ago with my wife and kids for lunch. Since it's one of the concept restaurants inside the Federal Galley, there's not too much to say about the inside other than there are a number of shared tables that you can sit at and you can help yourself to water and plates. One thing that I enjoyed is each table had a QR code you could scan and then order and pay for any or all of the restaurants. From Given to Fly I ended up ordering their Nashville hot sandwich. The menu described it as Nashville Hot with Pickles ("Hot" is in the name; Proceed with caution! Please feel free to come ask us about it if you're unsure) and I was impressed whenever it came to the table. It was larger than I had expected and looked super spicy. The chicken itself ended up being cooked perfectly as it was moist and juicy. Then the bun was toasted nicely and held up to all of the nashville hot sauce which was on there which I appreciated. As for the sauce, yeah it was definitely spicy and delicious. It didn't blow my head off but it was enough that I was slightly uncomfortable upon finishing and I do love spicy food! The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I loved both my sandwich and the sauce here and love that they didn't mess around and brought the heat. read more

Have had better chicken sandwiches at the fast food chains like Wendy's, Popeyes and Chick-fil-A, especially for the price. And one guy who brought the food was an A-hole rude when asking a question about the order. Read other reviews too as the "service" (walk up order and someone brings the food) and food quality seem to be inconsistent. I had wanted to try Given to Fly at Federal Galley for a long time. I'm obsessed with fried chicken and am always looking for a good one. So glad we finally did! My husband, our friend, and I all had their delicious fried chicken sandwiches. My husband and I had the plan version which was really good. The chicken was really crispy, moist and flavorful. Our friend had the Korean BBQ one and he really liked it. He said the sauce was a little bit spicy but not too bad. We all loved the waffle fries. They were so crispy, a little spicy and so good. Definitely go try it out. I'd like to try the other types. I love buffalo chicken and blue cheese. That sounds so good. read more

I'm torn in this review as I genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere, the portions were plentiful, and the speed with which the food was ready was second to none! However, the chicken sandwich didn't live up to my expectations and it didn't stand up to some of the other Nashville Hot Chickens I've had in PGH. I don't consider myself a sandwich snob, but I was let down that the hot chicken seemed to be all heat on the outside, but the chicken itself was bland. My wife said the same thing of her chicken filet too. I also didn't think there were enough pickles and I couldn't taste the ones that were there either. I hate leaving restaurants bad reviews because I know how many variables and elements go into producing food. That being said, this restaurant really does deserve a 1-star. I ordered chicken tenders and fries which is really hard to mess up. The breading fell off of the chicken tenders and made them mushy. The chicken was unseasoned and was way too thick. The fries were oily and mushy. Lastly, the service was poor. The woman who took my order seemed disinterested. Skip this place and try something else. read more

I have tried given to fly a handful of times. The waffle fries on the best thing on their menu! I went for brunch and got the hot honey chicken biscuit. This review is purely based on the Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was inedible. The chicken was fried well and it looked nice but that hot sauce they put on it was not it. It was more like a dry rub than a sauce so when you took a bite, you would taste spicy dry seasoning bits in your mouth. It's also not as spicy as the menu claims. Nashville chicken was absolutely inedible. More spices/seasoning than actual chicken. Straight up chicken and a pound of cayenne pepper. Brought it back to one of the workers and gave him the feedback. He just smiled at me. That's how you react when someone gives you this feedback? Alright, buddy. Earned a review. For God sake, man. Get it together. Put a damn Aioli on there or something and use less spices. 18 bucks for powder, chicken, and pickles doesn't cut it. Updated with response to the individual who responded: The picture I posted is exactly what I was able to eat. If you look closely, you can see half the chicken patty with the pickles on it. Obviously, that's not an empty plate. Second of all, I did approach staff with feedback and I just got a smile and was told where to put the bowl. The heat wasn't the issue, it was the amount of pure powder seasoning completely covering the food and bowl. It was disgusting. I suggest you learn to take feedback as I'm obviously not the only one with this reaction to this sandwich. Instead of just smiling at me, offer a refund and say "sorry it wasn't to your liking. Can I get you something else?" I've worked in the service industry before and that's just not how you treat a customer. Had this chicken twice. First time was before the brick and mortar was open, and it was being delivered by the owner. The sandwiches were ice cold when they arrived. They were decent enough after reheating and it was an admittedly odd scenario, so we decided to try them out in a proper establishment. We got the Nashville Hot after hearing the owner sing praises of it being the only authentic Nashville sandwich in pittsburgh. Instead, i got an oily, under-seasoned mess. The bottom bun basically disintegrated after 3-4 bites, and the chicken had no sort of spice or real flavor. It was also an extremely thin sandwich, majority just breading. Despite being there on a weeknight for an early dinner at 4-5, they were out of waffle fries (since apparently $12 for a chicken thigh, bun, and sauces doesn't leave room for fries), so we opted for the regular fries. These were also barely seasoned and undercooked. Lastly, my partner got the Buffalo sandwich. This sandwich was fine, not enough blue cheese and the same complaint about being extremely thin and breading-heavy. read more

I never write bad reviews, but the way we were talked to deserves attention. We were in from out of town and didn't realize you needed to find a table first. The lady taking our order was so rude. Don't ask what sauces are available "it's literally step 2 on the menu, pick your sauce". The guy that brought our food out would not make eye contact or even smile at us. We were overly friendly even! We always try to set a good example for our kids and treat everyone with so much kindness. Our kids even recognized how sour the staff was. I don't like giving reviews. I always try to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to anything but I knew I should have walked away when I saw a cook on their phone, on the line, next to what looked to be a prep project. But I wanted a chicken sandwich, and this place claims to have the best in Pittsburgh. They don't. Not even close. My chicken was dry and flavorless, jerky if you will. Even the breading though crispy had nothing else going for it. My replacement sandwich was not as dry but just as flavorless.
