I tried repeatedly to make eye contact. I asked to see the menu again since we were ready to order more food. She gave me the menu, but even though the bar was no longer crowded, I still couldn't get her attention for another 15 minutes. I placed the menu clearly in front of me to signal that I was ready, yet she continued serving people all around us. I then tried to break the ice by asking if the kitchen was still open. She replied, "Of course it's open," and walked away. I didn't want to call out "excuse me," because that felt rude. Five minutes later, I'd had enough. I asked for the check and calmly explained exactly what I'm explaining here. She began to apologize, but then a male bartender aggressively dropped the check in front of me, which felt like a clear message to leave.
