I, having worked in a deli many years ago, though the process and skills needed are still the same in slicing cheeses and meats. Well, didn't know Winn-Dixie still existed until coming to Destin. Used to have them in Kentucky but, they are now all gone. My friend wanted to come here to pick up some things and just wanted to step into a Winn-Dixie since both of us hadn't been in years. We checked out the whole store and it looked the way we remember. Wish we got their name brand sodas. We used self check out and it was a breeze. This review is for the spirit side of the store. First because I am from out of town I'm very impressed the idea of having a whole section separate for liquor and spirits. The store was clean and aisle clear. Also the store was a good size, everything aisle clearly divided and separated into types of liquor. So for that I'll give 2 stars. Here's what I wasn't impressed with, no one greeted us or asked if we needed any assistance. Also not a drop of Ciroc to be found in this store. I absolutely love the employees at this Winn Dixie. From the incredibly hard working ladies and gentlemen in the bakery, those who work on the meat department, those who strive to keep a super busy store stocked, the wonderful checkout support and managers, I've always been treated so well. This location is very busy due to the tourists who clean out the shelves but the employees here always are friendly. If you like hot food, the deli makes very good chicken wings and nuggets. They can make personalized cakes but make sure to call at least one day ahead. I shop here twice a week. read more

I bought some cheeses from here for a charcuterie board. The options were decent, Publix and Whole Foods have much better options. We looked for some allergy cream and could not find them. When we checked out the cashier did not bag 2 items, therefore they were left at her register and didn't make it home with us. Allow plenty of extra time if you plan on getting anything from the Deli. While there may be several people behind the counter, it would appear that only one is assigned to help customers. And when you do get their attention its almost an inconvenience for them. I'm a local so this isn't just a once in a while experience, its EVERY TIME!! I wish Winn Dixie would explore new technology improvements like Deli kiosks that allow customers to place order at the kiosk or mobile app, continue to shop, and pick up the order when its ready. read more

I come here a lot because it's close to my house. I would recommend that you only come here for "the basics" of grocery shopping, but they tend to tall flat on even the basics at the worst possible moments. It's just very inconvenient to say "I'll run down the street and grab some [hamburger buns]" and then get there to find that the grocery store is out of said item (this did not happen on a major holiday weekend that is typically conducive to cooking out, e.g. Labor Day, Memorial Day or 4th of July Weekend, Thanksgiving, Christmas, or the day before or after the aforementioned days). That kind of thing has happened numerous times over the years. Their staff is very polite, and if you don't want to actually buy groceries, it's a very decent place. They have a great wine selection and a very respectable beer selection. There's also a package store on the left and right. You'll probably find what you need here most of the time. But if you ever find yourself within a short time frame and need something that you'd typically get from the grocery store, you may be gambling by racing over to this Winn-Dixie. read more

This Winn-Dixie looks so flashy and nice on the outside, but that's just a cover for it's ugly insides. You know, like pretty girls. I was really, really disappointed in their selection of produce, especially the organic produce that was withered and sad looking in it's own little corner. I kept thinking, "they don't know about organic here, do they?" Then, I felt so spoiled to be living where I do in Silver Spring because I have so many options just minutes away. I think I was so disappointed because as someone who reads a lot about health and nutrition, their nutrition isle would make any nutritionist laugh. It's all crap. Crap and more crap. Healthy foods aside, I've been to way better grocery stores, but I've also been to worse, that's why it won't get the final slap of a one star. Go up the street on 98W until you find Publix, it's newer, nicer and well-stocked with much better variety and merchandise for the grocery store snobs like me. read more

The sun started falling and the lights from the condos and surf shops along the Destin strip were casting a neon glow that was vaguely calming. "Maybe we should get a move on to that spot where Horace does his thing?" Remy commented as he helped himself to a sparkling water alcohol beverage from the fridge. "Yeah, let's put this thing to bed", Banana said with a wink. The stars were fully out and heat from the day had finally started to lift when Jones and Remington emerged from their quaint room at the Silver Dunes Condominium. "I guess NOW it's time to get some work done", Banana said. After they had parked in the Winn Dixie parking lot and were walking towards the entrance, they could hear the faint, rhythmic bassline of Tootsie Roll by 69 boyz coming from one of the cars. "I think we've found our dance party," exclaimed Remington. As they moved closer, they could hear the music more clearly but only saw the rear end of a well-dressed thin woman twerking up and down from the other side of the car. When they finally got even with the car to see what was going on it was clear. This MUST have been their man-atee. Awkwardly dancing with the young woman was a manatee in a fedora and a tank top that had "Who's the Man" airbrushed on the front. Before they could do anything, they heard a clamor coming from the entrance of Winn Dixie. A very pale man in what could only be a J Crew Hawaiian shirt came running and yelling. "What the heck is going on here?! I went into Winn Dixie to purchase some reasonably priced fresh lemons for my friend's hair and come back to see you freak dancing with a whale?" "Hey man, that ain't cool" shouted back Horace. "I ain't no whale. I been called a cow and some other stuff, but whale is over the line, bro". The pale man kept charging. At this point he started throwing things from his bag at Horace. First some cheese, at which Horace screamed "that's some donkey kind of acting. Throwing cheese at a brother" then the man, who somehow is lighting up the darkened parking lot with the glow of the stars inconceivably reflecting off of his almost translucent skin, throws a bottle of baby powder at the seafaring mammal. The packaging burst and coated the sea cow. "Oh no!" shouted Horace. "I'm drying out". This prompted the ocean beast to flop his way to what appeared to be a giant fish tank built on an automobile chasis. "Stop that fish!" yelled Remington Fantana to which Horace responds "I ain't no fish, I'm a mammal, dang it!" while he continued to flop and roll to his "car". Banana Jones leapt and tackled the manatee and managed to subdue him while at the same time trying to keep the J Crew shirted guy from kicking the downed mammal. Finally the man gave up and got in his car while his girlfriend can be heard saying "I told you we shoulda gone to the bar". Remy called the police and Banana rolled Horace over to look him in the eye. "Let's see what's really going on here" and she pulled on the back of his head. Suddenly his entire head pulled off and reveals it was a mask. "OMG, George the beach chair guy from Silver Dunes?! But WHY?!" she cries out. George took a deep breath. "I've been out there slinging chairs for 40 years. I got a robotic leg and a permanently bandaided toe. It gets old so I found this old manatee suit and decided to go out and have some fun. I never hurt anyone. I just wanted to live a different life that didn't require walking anywhere. Then I started feeling bad and you came along with your pet detectivery and I figured it would be fun to see how good you were. I guess I proved it. You're the best. Now do your worst. I deserve it." Banana and Remington looked at each other and bursted out laughing. "Get out of here you fake old fish", Remy said "I'm a mammal" muttered George and they got back into their car and headed for the condo. "Got any more of those pina coladas?" Remington asked. Closest market to the Motel 6 on Hwy 98 (3-mi away), so during my 2-night stay, this is the 1st market I visited due to convenience, since I arrived in a major thunderstorm with gale force winds & wanted to retreat to my hotel asap. I'm used to living in big cities, so don't expect everyone to give me the customer service we all experienced decades ago, but I also didn't experience the unfriendliness or rudeness others have recounted here, fortunately. I'm not saying it didn't happen to others, just that perhaps I visited at the right time. Then again, I just want my salad, water & fresh fruit & am not looking for lasting relationships, so I'm seldom bothered by those less than friendly. My cashier was quite friendly & chatty this afternoon. Re: the store, it's your standard WDixie. Fair selection of everything, very wide isles, plenty of parking with comfortably wide spaces, fair amount of organic veggies (not much fruit), big wine selection & a modest cold beer selection, but they also have many craft beers on the shelf, so if you live here, great... if you're in a hotel sans fridge (like I was), you'll have to opt for whatever IPA they had in the cold case... 2-3 brands only, but hey, I'll take what I can get & was happy. Most produce was fresh, some not as much, but that's standard for any market. Store fried & rotisserie chickens are in the back, right side... decent prices. Their hot deli counter is mostly fried fare, so for me, there's not much to be found there. It's a solid WD (comparable to any I've visited, really), but since my GPS also tells me there's a nearby Publix & Whole Foods within 3-5 mi, I'll try one of those tomorrow. Their quality is generally a bit better, even though they're usually slightly more expensive. Solid 3* out of 5. -2* as food quality was adequate, not great & fruit selection, specifically organic, was a bit scant. It's not bad, just nothing special. read more

This particular Winn-Dixie store is always crowded, and their prices are a lot more expensive than the Wal-mart close by it. Our first trip to the grocery store, while on vacation, was made here. The prices were outrageous. There are ways to get discounts for certain items, but a person has to have a Winn-Dixie card to get the discounts. Thankfully, the young lady checking us out gave it to us since we purchased over $400 worth of groceries for our week-long stay at the house we rented. After giving us the discount, the total was decreased to somewhere in the $300s. We were very thankful for the young lady giving us the Winn-Dixie discount! If we wouldn't have had it, it would have been quite a bit more expensive. read more

The staff is always very friendly and helpful, if not overbearingly so at times. They always have what I'm looking for, and it is a very clean store. I live in Destin and normally shop at this location, but recent visits have been horrible. I'm extremely disappointed. The staff has terrible attitudes. Not once but twice I was given grief for not having my license when my husband was buying wine. Do you card kids when they checkout with their parents? I had to go outside of the store just to get our groceries. The lady who assisted us on both occasions wasn't wearing a name tag and was very rude. We have a vacation home in Destin, off Gulf Shore. I wouldn't think of shopping any where else, for several reasons.... This is a very nice, relatively new, store. The employees are always helpful and the lines are usually manageable. When the tourist season is at its' highest, I can easily make it to Winn-Dixie....avoiding the heavy traffic. They always have what I'm looking for. Even oddball things. Winn-Dixie has a very nice wine section. If it's not what you're looking for - there's a liquor store on either side! The only reason I'm giving this one star is because of employee there by the name of Joseph! I visited this location 4 times during a recent vacation. Every single time, Joseph was an absolute pleasure to be greeted by, along with his outstanding customer service skills! Aside from that, I came in on one of my trips there during this stay in the area, to get 13 pink balloons. During our vacation, our family wanted to memorialize the 1 year mark of losing my precious Grandma. By doing so, we planned on releasing those balloons in her honor (13 members of my family were there, hence the 13 pink (her favorite color) balloons). When I approached the floral counter with my two daughters, we were met by an extremely rude and hostile woman that reacted to my request in a manner that was extremely rude and disrespectful. She was combative and just mind blowing RUDE. To add insult to injury, when my oldest daughter decided to make management at the customer service counter aware, the man and woman (seemingly management judging by their attire in comparison to other employees) looked at her and across the way at me, as if we had 9 heads on our shoulders. Whenever I go on vacation I love to experience the local/regional chains! Winn-Dixie had some great deals and a variety of selection of any item you can think of. They had a great fruit and vegetable section as well. The staff were friendly. The store was clean. The only thing to suggest would be that if you are looking for liquor go to the Winn-Dixie liquor store next door. I'm not sure what Florida laws are but they didn't sell liquor in the store itself, just beer and wine. Overall, this was great shopping experience for someone from out of town. read more

This Winn-Dixie, like most is a fair grocery store but definitely not as good as other choices such as Fresh Market, Whole Foods, and even Publix. They have a poor selection of organic produce and their hot food is very mediocre. Prices are comparable to Publix. Overall food choices not great or varied. read more
