Winsor is Wonderful! I see that Yelpers do not love Winsor due to the low ratings and reviews but I have to ask why. What I will say is if you read these bad reviews you might be surprised at what people complain about. But, on a more positive note, this will be my 3rd time dining here and everytime has been wonderful (hence my title). The food, ambiance, drinks, etc. you really can't go wrong with any of them. And, the drive there is also stunning. Duxbury as you know is a beautiful beach and golf city with million dollar homes along the way. Cha-Ching! I arrived a little early while I waited for my friend to arrive. The restaurant was not overly crowded which was good for a Friday evening. We sat right near the fireplace which was super nice. When my friend arrived we started with some drinks. Then we were so torn as to what to order so we started with their Tuna Crudo. My favorite since it was super fresh, melt in your mouth sashimi. Yummy! Then we shared a salad which was just ok. For entrees, she ordered the Linquine Vongole which looked good but a huge portion. I ordered Fluke for the first time and although it wasn't what I am used to, I still enjoyed it. We passed on dessert and had coffee with amaro; they have some nice after dinner drinks. All I have to say is go see for yourself that this gorgeous, south shore spot is perfect for any occassion. Or even if you want to grab a glass of wine/drink and sit at the bar, that sounds good too! We wanted to try something a bit different for Valentine's Day and came across a prefix dinner with 4 courses at the Windsor house. The ambiance is what you would expect from a house built in 1803. Our server Erica was most delightful and was very attentive considering how busy the restaurant was on a holiday. The appetizers were plentiful commencing with oysters, scallop cerviche, and lobster salad. We both chose lamb chops which were plated very nicely. The finale was an amazing raspberry and hazelnut tiramisu. Each course tantalized your tastebuds. All and all a very pleasant holiday celebration! read more

Went there with reservations on Friday night. Place is beautifully decorated for Christmas. Fireplace was burning. Tons of people there so glad I had reservations. Staff was friendly and helpful and great. Drinks were amazing...I ordered a cranberry mule that wasn't on the menu ...so good. My dinner was exceptional as was my husband's. I had a sirloin steak and it was cooked perfectly and tender . Garlic mashed with it. Only thing missing was complimentary bread or rolls. My husband had a lamb ragu I believe, he said it was great. Being local, this is a restaurant that we go to every so often. We've been 4 times in the last few months alone (twice for brunch, twice for dinner) and each time has been an increase in disappointment. As a result, we will be taking a long break. A consistently good experience has been the oysters and starters. Fortunately, it's easy to cross the street and eat at the ICO raw bar or bring some oysters home to shuck. That will continue. Cocktails are usually good. But Winnie entrees have been consistently under seasoned and underwhelming these last visits. On our last visit, one dish was so bad that much was inedible (and even what was consumed was mediocre). Vibes are good, so maybe just come for a drink and apps at the bar. Would order this again - Tuna and beef tartare: can be shared with multiple people as it's on a large piece of toast. Flavorful and light - Lobster ceviche: little bit on the smaller side (either a meal for one person or an appetizer to share between two to three people). Refreshing, light, delicious - Pork belly clam chowder: definitely a unique dish that you should try. It's hearty and flavorful and comes with a good amount. - Linguine vongole: your classic clam pasta. This was our first visit this summer and it's been a while since I reviewed. In my opinion, this is the best restaurant in the South Shore. I don't understand the reviews that say otherwise. It's expensive because it's an elevated experience. DH tried three different types of oysters and loved all of them. Each with distinct flavor. The crudo was impeccably seasoned. I had the Tommy Noble gin cocktail, which is a complex and delicious cocktail. The orange wine served by the glass was bright and crisp and perfect with all of our dishes. The seasonal grilled peaches and burrata bruschetta is not to be missed. We were big fans of the old "driveway" clams dish, but the new "surf" clams are just as good. Big chunks of pork belly and savory broth. Finally the stripped bass was incredible. A beautiful thick piece of fish perfectly cooked and served simply with a salad dressed with a ginger vinaigrette that complimented it so well. We saw Skip checking in with the raw bar team, which is always a nice touch. His influence shows. Thanks for another great night. read more

Came for the weekend brunch and was impressed with the food but found the service to be mediocre,we had two servers One was very friendly and welcoming but the other server wasn't all that interested,it was nearing the end of the brunch shift so maybe that had something to do with it. Owned by the folks at island creek oysters it's located right across the street in a storied old inn that was warm and inviting. Of course we started with a selection of local oysters,perfect... onto the smash burger on a English muffin with cheese and a "big Mac"style sauce it was the perfect brunch bite with fries and garlic mayo. Also had the New England breakfast of two eggs,crunchy delicious potato rosti and bacon with grilled sourdough bread. Price point was decent. Pros: Very nice server doing her best. A bit slow getting going but we could see she was totally slammed and once she knew we were in a rush (we had a play to get too), she totally stepped it up and was perfect. Definitely not her fault, it was pretty obvious, the place was packed. Food was excellent. Drink was excellent (I had the mezcal cocktail with the aperol, maraschino and lemon -yum! If you are a Paper Plane or Naked and Famous person I recommend.) Adorable place, great ambience. I'm sure it would be lovely in the winter and the outdoor seating is also quite fetching. Con: SO SO noisy. I don't know if it's possible to do anything but we could not hear each other. Very large and loud party next to us, but that happens, and even after they left, it was still too loud. Some kind of remediation (doors between the small rooms would really help) is needed. We love Island Creek oysters and were really excited to try Winsor house. We were seated at a little two top by the door and the hostess got water for us. I am glad that we arrived early as the space filled up quickly. There are several dining rooms, all simply decorated but very nice. Our server was lovely and did her best. Dinner took about two and a half hours for oysters, two courses, and dessert. The food was phenomenal. We had a dozen oysters, sliders, corn, arancini, driveway clams, and the chocolate cake. The server told us they were out of ice cream but we saw some at another table. The staff are kind, but it is hard to identify who works there and who does not. The hostess was wearing sweatpants and the host oversized jeans. There was no sign of anyone who might be management. read more

My 3 year old daughter and I stopped in for a girls brunch a few weeks ago. We got right in, no reservation and sat down. The waitress was incredibly kind and was quick to take our order. We had a delicious brunch and the waitress was so patient with us. She had a big room of busy tables and yet she was so attentive. Winsor hour is a beautiful spot, it was all decorated for Christmas and all the things to see around the room really kept my daughter entertained. Went here for our anniversary and had some of the best service I've had at any restaurant, anywhere. They were so accommodating, quick, and welcoming. I had the chowder which was INCREDIBLE. The pork belly stayed crispy while still being submerged in soup?? Magic. I had the arctic char and I really enjoyed it, the flavors were delicious. It had an apricot and pea salad topping. First time at this restaurant and we had high hopes. Drinks were excellent as were the oysters. The fried clams were the worst I've had in a while. They were way too dark, soggy and I had to root around to find a belly or two. Salad was served on top of the clams and onion rings making it even more soggy. The clam chowder was very good but all other meals and apps were just okay. Service was excellent but the addition of 8% for staff did rub us the wrong way. We gave a 20% tip so adding the 8% makes things a little too expensive for what we got. Unfortunately we will not be back. read more

I'm uncomfortable with a mandatory 8% service fee prior to walking in through the door. So basically when dining and you're a generous tipper (I.e. 20%-30%) on entire bill (including alcohol)...the restaurant operates to price gouge their customers even further. I purchased two expensive bottles and two cocktails along with dinner and noticed a mandatory 8% (defined as tip for the back restaurant employees). Restaurants that mandate gratuity generally have 20 percent and call it the day. They don't state that it's 8% excluding the usual tip for front workers. This restaurant commands higher prices and still expects you to cover their overhead. SMH every time I think about my visit. Left such a bad impact on dining out. It far surpassed the food and service. Covering a restaurant's overhead is not the responsibility of its patrons/customers. Owners/management team should account for such costs when operating a business. I left thinking...are we (customers) paying for their oyster bar expansion and remodeling?! read more

Where to start. When were visiting family and they took us out to dinner. We ordered oysters then tried to order a bottle of wine. They only have one bottle of Chardonnay on their wine list, at a seafood restaurant, and they were out of it. One person ordered a bowl of chowder and her entree. Waitress asked if she wanted soup before the meal and she said yes. Then the entrees, which are so OVERPRICED came out and no soup. Halfway through the meal they brought the soup out and was told to take it back and off the check. Waitress looked like a deer in headlights. Now the entrees are such small portions and so overpriced it's not funny. Only two of the four of us said theirs tasted good ( we both ordered the same thing). One said the sea bass which was flown in from California, WHY??? You can catch sea bass here in the Atlantic Ocean, tasted fishy. The grilled tuna was 1/4 inch thick and tasteless. The only thing that tasted good was the attic char. But was smaller than a snickers bar. Needless to say we did not order dessert and all left there still hungry. Not to mention they add an 8% "Heart of House administrative fee" Save your money and go somewhere else better. read more

It was my first time in a few weeks ago on a Saturday and it was really fun. From start to finish, my family and I had a blast. Lots of laughs and just a really good vibe. My brother made the reservation and told them it was my 'birthday'. It wasn't technically, but we hadn't celebrated it earlier in the year so I guess it was fine....but the server (who was professional, hilarious and absolutely adorable) wrote happy birthday on all of the menus and was quite funny about the occasion. We ordered a few courses and had a few rounds. The food was delicious and the drinks hit the spot. I hope we didn't take the table up for too long, but we were having a great time.
