I have used Winston's Auto Service several times in the last few years for both of my Honda's. He has done great work each time, sometimes cleaning up issues from other shops. He is also honest and documents his work well. He cleaned up an air conditioning issue in one of my cars caused by a dealer on the east coast. Yesterday he quoted me a little over $2,000 for a job that included several smaller jobs. When I picked up the car today and went to pay him, to my surprise he dropped the price to about $1,700, saying that there was an issue with the original quote. I OKed the work based on the higher original quote and didn't bring any issue to his attention. He caught it on his own and lowered the price without me asking. Can't say I have met a lot of people in business for themselves that would do that. I have met a lot of mechanics who tell me it will be done by a date and time and then the job isn't complete. Winston has been maintaining my hondas for years(~8years). I've owned two civics and one pilot. My cars have followed Winston wherever he's worked. Besides scheduled maintenance, I've also had timing belt/water pump, brakes, clutches, trailing arm bushings jobs done. I'm sure he can do almost any job on car, but I've never had to do any other jobs. Its probably because he keeps my cars in tiptop shape. I feel he never recommends anything unnecessary. I prefer bringing my hondas to winston rather than a dealership anyday. My usual mechanic was very busy and could not get to my vehicle for a least a week so I needed to find an alternative. Based on the Yelp reviews, I decided to take vehicle to Winston's. My vehicle needed rear brakes - resurface rotors and pads. I went to Winston's website and completed filling out information to request a quote. Some time later, do not recall how long of a wait, I received the quote - $100 less than going to the dealership. I met Winston when he opened up shop, 11am, and filled out the half-page of general information and left the car with him. He indicated the work will take 2-2.5 hours, which I expected. He contacted me an hour later indicating that the work was complete. I felt very comfortable with Winston. I cannot tell the difference between the old and new brakes since the old ones were at 30% and still functioning just fine; the work needed done was what needed to be done based on a 60,000 mile maintenance check. For future work, I definitely will be heading to Winston's Auto Service. read more

I just got my car 90k tune-up here on the TL and brakes replacement for the MDX and both are running great. He is not your typical "gas station mechanic" or from Thang Mo media. This guy can do his job! Winston is honest and knowledgeable mechanic you ever meet in SJ. He even fixed stuff that other places (Midas) messed it up. His price is not cheap but not expensive either. I can leave the car there for the whole day without worrying about it. Make sure to get a loaner if no one is picking you up. Great guy and knows his stuff. My fuel gauge wasn't working and antenna wouldn't go down. Called him and scheduled a convenient time for me, which would be a Saturday drop off. Said no problem and he would start on Monday. he called Tuesday and told me it was the cluster and how much that and the antenna module would cost. He said he would be done by Thursday. He called Thursday and said he ran into a problem. Cluster working, but the fuel sending unit not. Told me what I needed, how much would cost, and how long would take. Told him to go ahead. About 1:30p Friday, he said all good and done. Told him I would be there Saturday, he said no problem. Got there Saturday and he explained everything and why it broke and also my old parts. My civic hatch was stolen and recovered a couple weeks later. The buttheads stole my radio, streamlight flashlight, my thule roof rack, and a seat bottom of another car seat that I had just had reupholstered. First of all, who steals a seat bottom only for heavens sakes. Geniuses I tell you. Anyhow, it got towed back to my house and there it stayed for the 6 months since they had gutted the ignition and dash. I didn't tend to her right away since I was still fuming that someone messed with my baby. Long story short, I finally thought it was time for her to get on the road again.
